Chapters: The Book of I John
Message: The LIGHT And POWER of Christ
Hello My Friend,
The Book of I John was written by John (the same John who wrote the Gospel of John and Revelation) to Christians who were falling into satanic deception which was breaking their fellowship with God and other believers. The purpose of this letter was to remind believers how they have eternal life, and that true fellowship with Christ is evidence that He lives in us. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.” – 1 John 5:12.
As I was praying this morning this word came to my attention, abash; To make the spirits to fall. Did you ever have a great day, your spirits are up, everything is going so well, you did a great job at what you were supposed to do, then someone comes up to you with a negative comment? Talk about abash? People are so jealous of the blessings that God gives us that they try to bring our spirits down. It is sad really, because they are the ones losing out on the blessings God can give them if they just look to His Son. Jesus has all the power to not only cleanse us from sin, which is a blessing in itself, but to give us a joyful, prosperous life here, before we get to heaven. Jesus Christ is the beginning of a relationship with God, He is our only light in this dark world.
“That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked upon, and our hands have handled, of the Word of life; (For the life was manifested, and we have seen it, and bear witness, and shew unto you that eternal life, which was with the Father, and was manifested unto us;) That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship is with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ. And these things write we unto you, that your joy may be full. This then is the message which we have heard of him, and declare unto you, that God is light, and in him is no darkness at all. If we say that we have fellowship with him, and walk in darkness, we lie, and do not the truth: But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” – I John 1:1-7.
“and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” We can stand before God sinless, not by any merit of our own, but by the blood of His Son. The second we admit we are sinners, believe in Christ as receive Him as our Saviour cleansed from our sins, our soul is sinless and perfect in the eyes of God because He sees us through His perfect Son. Does that mean once we are saved we can continue living the life we once lived before we knew Him? No. We are now one with God through Christ, that means He changes us into His likeness the more we get around Him, people ought to see a difference in us since we are no longer of the world.
“My little children, these things write I unto you, that ye sin not. And if any man sin, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous: And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. And hereby we do know that we know him, if we keep his commandments. He that saith, I know him, and keepeth not his commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him. But whoso keepeth his word, in him verily is the love of God perfected: hereby know we that we are in him. He that saith he abideth in him ought himself also so to walk, even as he walked. And now, little children, abide in him; that, when he shall appear, we may have confidence, and not be ashamed before him at his coming. If ye know that he is righteous, ye know that every one that doeth righteousness is born of him.” – I John 2:1-6,28-29.
“And he is the propitiation for our sins:” Propitiation; The atonement or atoning sacrifice offered to God for the punishment of sin. While we are no longer under the law nor are we incapable of committing sin after we are saved, we find ourselves wanting to sin less, and if we do not then we will face a lot of difficulties in this life. Christ died for us, He took our punishment, and became the atoning sacrifice needed to keep us out of hell. God made the rules on how He wants man to live on earth, He decides what is right or wrong, and while we are free to choose how we live, that does not mean we will not face the consequences for our actions, even being saved.
“Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law. And ye know that he was manifested to take away our sins; and in him is no sin. Whosoever abideth in him sinneth not: whosoever sinneth hath not seen him, neither known him. Little children, let no man deceive you: he that doeth righteousness is righteous, even as he is righteous. He that committeth sin is of the devil; for the devil sinneth from the beginning. For this purpose the Son of God was manifested, that he might destroy the works of the devil. Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin; for his seed remaineth in him: and he cannot sin, because he is born of God. For if our heart condemn us, God is greater than our heart, and knoweth all things. Beloved, if our heart condemn us not, then have we confidence toward God. And whatsoever we ask, we receive of him, because we keep his commandments, and do those things that are pleasing in his sight.” – I John 3:4-9,20-22.
“Whosoever is born of God doth not commit sin;” The second you receive Christ as your Saviour you become a child of God, sinless and perfect, and filled with the Spirit of God, the soul that is. Once the Spirit of God is in us we are like newborn babies, and as we grow with Christ the need for living in sin minimizes. And let me tell you, it is much different when you commit sin with the Spirit of God living in you, the suffering becomes much worse because you cannot act like the devil when you have the Son of God in you, so let us not serve or indulge what the Son of God came to destroy. Renouncing sin is great proof of a spiritual union with Christ, it is a continual renewing of the mind, body, and spirit that manifests as we truly embrace the saving knowledge of Christ.
“Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world. They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them. We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error. Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” – I John 4:4-9.
“because greater is he that is in you,” If the LIGHT and POWER of Christ lives is us than we are capable of living a life that is not ruled by our sinful nature, but by the power of Christ. You know what happens when you are in a dark room and all of a sudden the lights come on? It hurts your eyes until they adjust. This is how the world sees us as we walk in the LIGHT, we are bright light bulbs that hurt their eyes, some will adjust and accept Him, but the majority will run because they love their sin more than God. When we get in the LIGHT and POWER of Christ we no longer want to be as the world, and there is nothing that we cannot overcome with Him.
“For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith. Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth. And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son. He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.” – I John 5:4-6,11-12,20.
“This is the true God, and eternal life.” God has never changed His position on man, and He never will, the only way to eternal life is the LORD. We who walk in the LIGHT and POWER of Christ are not sinless, we are going to mess up, sometimes several times a day, but we can overcome through Him. People should be able to tell if Christ is in us because we truly are different. If they do not see Him than we are obviously not walking with Him as we ought to be. We can live in this world and not be of it, we can enjoy this life and have some integrity, and we can be obedient to the Word of God without being overcome by the world. “Whosoever believeth that Jesus is the Christ is born of God: and every one that loveth him that begat loveth him also that is begotten of him. By this we know that we love the children of God, when we love God, and keep his commandments. For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous.” – I John 5:1-3.
Jesus Christ Magnified: “But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.” – I John 1:7.
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, The sacrifice You made for us is still something true believers cannot comprehend, to give Your life for us and even want fellowship with us after all we have done is amazing. Lord, I want to walk in Your POWER and LIGHT, give me Your power and the strength that only You can give me to be able to live the joyful life that You would have me live as I let Your LIGHT shine through me. In Your name, Jesus. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
