Message: Abstain From The Appearance of Evil

Hello My Friend,

Confess; To own, acknowledge or avow, as a crime, a fault, a charge, a debt, or something that is against one’s interest, or reputation. Confession does not come easy for us, in fact, the first thing we do when someone confronts us about something is look down in shame, and without even saying one word our expression says it all. How do we react when we are innocent? The complete opposite, we stand tall with our heads up high, proclaiming our innocence. That is, unless we really are guilty, in which case, anger often follows, and our expression says it all. There is a reason why so many people reject Christ, they know that they are doing something that actually has nothing to do with God, and everything to do with morality. “For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” – Hebrews 4:12.

and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.” There is nothing more powerful than the Word of God, the second one line of Scripture is read it pricks the heart, and one of two things will happen, they will either run to God or flee from Him. Unless they are like Satan, who is a reprobate for the sole fact that he refuses to submit completely to God, there comes a time when we all realize that we need God. Sadly, some will realize that too late, that is when they see Jesus. The problem is not that they are not unaware that they are sinners, the problem is that they are afraid to admit it to God. If you think that God does not know what You have done, think again, He knows everything. And if you think that what you have done is so awful that He will never forgive you, think again, He forgives all who come to Him sincerely and willingly. The hardest part is the confession, but God makes is easy for us, in fact, He is right there with open arms. God explains this to Moses.

Speak unto the children of Israel, When a man or woman shall commit any sin that men commit, to do a trespass against the LORD, and that person be guilty; Then they shall confess their sin which they have done: and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof, and add unto it the fifth part thereof, and give it unto him against whom he hath trespassed. But if the man have no kinsman to recompense the trespass unto, let the trespass be recompensed unto the LORD, even to the priest; beside the ram of the atonement, whereby an atonement shall be made for him. And every offering of all the holy things of the children of Israel, which they bring unto the priest, shall be his. And every man’s hallowed things shall be his: whatsoever any man giveth the priest, it shall be his.” – Numbers 5:6-10.

and he shall recompense his trespass with the principal thereof,” Recompense means that we must pay a price for the penalty of our crime to the person we wronged. You see, what people never understand is that it does not matter if the crime, the penalty is the same, death and hell. Why? God is our Creator, He made us for His purpose. How would you react if your child rejects you, and goes against everything you ask of them? We must also understand that God sends no one to hell, we have a choice. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” – Romans 10:9-10.

let the trespass be recompensed unto the LORD,” My mom asked me how God could forgive a person who hurts a baby, or child. Well, God deals with all sin the same way, He is faithful and just to forgive it if it is confessed sincerely, willingly, and they are repentant. People do so many things honestly not knowing what they are doing. How? Their heart. If their heart is hard, they will not see the wrong they have done. Who actually controls them is Satan, he is so disgusting that he preys on the innocent, and helpless because they are unable to defend themselves. And that is where Jesus comes in, when we come to Jesus, confessing our sin, He pays the price for us. And when we are in the hands of Jesus, Satan has to answer to Him. “And to you who are troubled rest with us, when the Lord Jesus shall be revealed from heaven with his mighty angels, In flaming fire taking vengeance on them that know not God, and that obey not the gospel of our Lord Jesus Christ: Who shall be punished with everlasting destruction from the presence of the Lord, and from the glory of his power;” – II Thessalonians 1:7-9.

While salvation is by grace, through our faith alone in Christ, we must also understand that no sin goes unpunished, especially secret sin, it will be exposed, and all will find out about it. To show just how destructive secret sin is, God institutes the law of jealousy, a bitter water that a woman would drink who was accused by her husband of adultery, she had to drink the water and it would determine whether or not she had committed this act, which by the way, was punishable with death.

Then the priest shall charge the woman with an oath of cursing, and the priest shall say unto the woman, The LORD make thee a curse and an oath among thy people, when the LORD doth make thy thigh to rot, and thy belly to swell; And this water that causeth the curse shall go into thy bowels, to make thy belly to swell, and thy thigh to rot: And the woman shall say, Amen, amen. Then the priest shall take the jealousy offering out of the woman’s hand, and shall wave the offering before the LORD, and offer it upon the altar: And the priest shall take an handful of the offering, even the memorial thereof, and burn it upon the altar, and afterward shall cause the woman to drink the water. And if the woman be not defiled, but be clean; then she shall be free, and shall conceive seed. This is the law of jealousies, when a wife goeth aside to another instead of her husband, and is defiled; Or when the spirit of jealousy cometh upon him, and he be jealous over his wife, and shall set the woman before the LORD, and the priest shall execute upon her all this law. Then shall the man be guiltless from iniquity, and this woman shall bear her iniquity.” – Numbers 5:21-22,25-26,28-31.

And the woman shall say, Amen, amen.” I will tell you what, if a woman, or even man ever did have the guts to stand before God and lie before drinking that water knowing they are guilty, I would not want to be them. This is truth serum at its best, talk about confession of sin, if you knew that by drinking water all your sins would be revealed for all to see, and you would be cursed forever, you would confess everything you ever did, even what you forgot about. The reason a woman is addressed here is because it is in relation to a husband and wife, all believers being the bride of Christ, Jesus being the husbandman. Let me tell you, God is a jealous God, and He will not have His people cheating on Him. Sinful living of any kind brings the horrible curse of separation not only from God, but everyone they get around, the holy water of Jesus brings us to the knowledge that we have sinned, and He is the one only one who can free us from the bitter water that caused the curse. “If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness. If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.” – I John 1:9.

Again, God gives us a choice, so, when we choose Him, He expects better things from us. When we choose Christ we are making a vow to trust only in Him to save us, and He makes a vow to hold on to our soul as long as we believe in Him until our very last breath. We should never take that for granted, rather, make the choice to live our lives in a way that gives honor to Him. Are we always going to do everything right? No. That is what grace is for. Grace does not give us the free pass to live as we please and not face the consequence of unrepentant sin. Why? Sin defiles us. God knowing that His people are incapable of never sinning, comes up with a way that they can learn to discipline themselves be keeping vows made to Him. These people would be known as Nazarites.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When either man or woman shall separate themselves to vow a vow of a Nazarite, to separate themselves unto the LORD: He shall separate himself from wine and strong drink, and shall drink no vinegar of wine, or vinegar of strong drink, neither shall he drink any liquor of grapes, nor eat moist grapes, or dried. All the days of his separation shall he eat nothing that is made of the vine tree, from the kernels even to the husk. All the days that he separateth himself unto the LORD he shall come at no dead body. And if any man die very suddenly by him, and he hath defiled the head of his consecration; then he shall shave his head in the day of his cleansing, on the seventh day shall he shave it. And on the eighth day he shall bring two turtles, or two young pigeons, to the priest, to the door of the tabernacle of the congregation: And the priest shall offer the one for a sin offering, and the other for a burnt offering, and make an atonement for him, for that he sinned by the dead, and shall hallow his head that same day. And he shall consecrate unto the LORD the days of his separation, and shall bring a lamb of the first year for a trespass offering: but the days that were before shall be lost, because his separation was defiled.” – Numbers 6:2-4,6,9-12.

nor eat moist grapes, or dried.” Why was all this necessary? Well, for the same reason a Christian is not go into a bar, even though they would never drink in a bar. We are to abstain from the appearance of evil. “Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. Abstain from all appearance of evil. And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.” – I Thessalonians 5:21-23.

and he hath defiled the head of his consecration;” Just walking into something sinful, even though we are not a part of the sin defiles us. It does not matter what people think of us, and it does not matter that we are not doing anything wrong. What matters is that although we be as reprobates, we appear to the world as one of God’s and not one of Satan’s. “Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates. For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth. For we are glad, when we are weak, and ye are strong: and this also we wish, even your perfection.” – II Corinthians 13:7-9.

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for the gift of eternal life that You have given to all who received Your Son as their Saviour. We do not have to work to recompense what we owe for sin, we just have to trust that Jesus paid the price for us. The lie we live now is not to keep our salvation it is give glory, honor, and thanks to You for your great mercies and grace. Lord, lead us and guide us, fill us with Your power, mercy, grace, wisdom, and the discernment to stay away from sin, and even the appearance of sin. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
