Message: The Laborers Are Few

Hello My Friend,

When you consider all the work that needs to be done in God’s House, you can begin to understand why we are such a diverse group. And while He calls some to be under shepherds, preachers, teachers, He also calls some to be builders, landscapers, janitors, and yet He also calls some to simply donate what is necessary to help keep the doors of His House from closing. It is a sad fact that there are a record number of churches closing their doors, there was even a time when it would be unheard of for a church building to be torn down, but that is not the case anymore. So, what is the problem? It is something that Jesus said, “Therefore said he unto them, The harvest truly is great, but the labourers are few: pray ye therefore the Lord of the harvest, that he would send forth labourers into his harvest. Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves.” – Luke 10:2-3.

I send you forth as lambs among wolves.” And here is the problem, the wolves are attacking at a rate that is pretty close to the times during the Apostles, Christians are being persecuted and martyred left and right, and instead of standing by their strength in Christ to fight them off, they are running in fear. Christ’s laborers may be few in number, and they may be scattered all over the world, but they are one body of people, appointed and anointed to serve God in the way that He has called them. The very first sanctuary built for God was a tent, known as the tabernacle, every single detail from the material used, to who would do what job, to what would be offered was given to Moses by God Himself. We must understand that if we are going to worship God, He has a specific order that we must follow or He will not accept us. Why? For same reason that you cannot be a physician without the proper training. Now, after all the instructions were given, and the tabernacle was fully set up, they were ready for service.

And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them; That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered: And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle. And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites. Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service: And four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none: because the service of the sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders. And the princes offered for dedicating of the altar in the day that it was anointed, even the princes offered their offering before the altar. And the LORD said unto Moses, They shall offer their offering, each prince on his day, for the dedicating of the altar.” – Numbers 7:1-3,6-11.

and gave them unto the Levites.” This was done for two reasons, to make sure that everything needed for the service was available, and to give provisions for their service. God does provide for His people, when He calls us to serve Him, He does not just make us labor until our last breath without some form of payment. “according unto their service,” While our greatest treasure for serving Him is not anything we will receive on this earth, He will always provide His laborers with exactly what they need to serve Him as He instructs them. “But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none:” You see, the other family members were charged with carrying the supplies, Kohath’s family was charged with carrying the actual holy instruments used, including the ark of the covenant. God will never overwork His laborers, in fact, the bigger the burden, the more help He gives us so that we can do His work properly. “each prince on his day,” And as for the offerings given to do the service, that too was specific, and every day for twelve days, the head of each tribe brought their offerings.

And he that offered his offering the first day was Nahshon the son of Amminadab, of the tribe of Judah: And his offering was one silver charger, the weight thereof was an hundred and thirty shekels, one silver bowl of seventy shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary; both of them were full of fine flour mingled with oil for a meat offering: One spoon of ten shekels of gold, full of incense: One young bullock, one ram, one lamb of the first year, for a burnt offering: One kid of the goats for a sin offering: And for a sacrifice of peace offerings, two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year: this was the offering of Nahshon the son of Amminadab.” – Numbers 7:12-17.

And his offering was one silver charger,” Every tribe was to bring the same offering, this means that every one must come to God with the same offering, no more or no less. “two oxen, five rams, five he goats, five lambs of the first year:” Do you notice that the peace offerings, these are what was offered to make peace with God after their sins were forgiven, were five times more? God takes offense to our sinning against Him, and it takes a lot to prove to Him that we are serious when we come to Him confessing our sin. He will put us on probation to see if we are going to remain faithful to Him, or have no intention of repenting at all. “And Moses said unto the people, Fear not: for God is come to prove you, and that his fear may be before your faces, that ye sin not.” – Exodus 20:20.

and that his fear may be before your faces,” Did you ever get those visions of what could happen if you gave into temptation? That alone ought to be just cause to keep it from happening at all cost. What I fear most when I get those visions is not what it would do to my relationship with God, it is what it will do to my relationship with those around me. Could I sin, and no one know about it? Sure. But God would know as it is He I would be sinning against. Could I sin in secret, and it never be found out? No. It will surely be found out. You see, we have to come to a point in our lives when, even as saved, born again Christians, that we start thinking about the repercussions that our actions would do to ourselves, and what they would do to others. Let me tell you, a youth pastor who gets caught up in an affair with a young convert must face a congregation full of people who will discover it, and will never look at him the same way again. This not only hurts the families involved, and the church itself, it also hurts God’s House, as people will walk away from God all together. We need to start taking our salvation more seriously, as well as the work we are called to do because it is not all about us. “For so is the will of God, that with well doing ye may put to silence the ignorance of foolish men: As free, and not using your liberty for a cloke of maliciousness, but as the servants of God.” – I Peter 2:15-16.

An account was given to the offerings received by all twelve tribes, this was a reminder that every tribe gave the same, and that is was accepted by God as they dedicated it upon the altar.

This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold: Each charger of silver weighing an hundred and thirty shekels, each bowl seventy: all the silver vessels weighed two thousand and four hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary: The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels. All the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bullocks, the rams twelve, the lambs of the first year twelve, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering twelve. And all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the altar, after that it was anointed. And when Moses was gone into the tabernacle of the congregation to speak with him, then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat that was upon the ark of testimony, from between the two cherubims: and he spake unto him.” – Numbers 7:84-89.

then he heard the voice of one speaking unto him from off the mercy seat” It is an incredible feeling to hear the voice of God. Moses was not perfect, we may not have read about it, but He had to give offerings too, he was faithful and accepted God’s judgments, even when he messed up. And that was something that God respected and that is why He accepted him, and continued to use him until they reached the promised land. God’s faithful will never be perfect, they will mess up, and He will prove them many times while they remain here, yet He respects us and accepts our offering because our offering is not a bunch of animals that could never permanently remove sin, it is one sacrifice that not only removes it, but disintegrates it, and makes peace with God through our faith in Him alone. And we know Him as Jesus, the Christ.

But in those sacrifices there is a remembrance again made of sins every year. For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.” – Hebrews 10:3-4,10-14.

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for the One and only sacrifice ever needed to not only seek forgiveness of my sin, but atonement and peace with You. Thank You, Jesus, for giving Your life so that we no longer need to give offering upon offering to reconcile with our Father, You settled our debt once and for all, and for that I will be forever grateful. I do not want to live a life that is wasted on fulfilling every lust of the flesh for the sake of my liberty, I want to live a life that glorifies You, and gives honor and respect to You. I know I mess up daily, and thank You for Your mercies and grace to keep Your promise of eternal life through my faith. Lord, Lead us and guide us, keep us from temptation, and fearing what would come if we sinned against You so that we might not sin against You. Forgive us where we have failed You, prove us Lord, and let us show You that no matter what happens, we will be a faithful until the day You come for us. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
