Chapters: Joshua 1-4
Message: Standing Still And Waiting For God

Hello My Friend,

The Book of Joshua contains twenty-four chapters, the author is Joshua and it was written to Israel, the timeline for these events is approximately 1451 BC to 1427 BC. The purpose of the book was to record the details on how Joshua led the people of Israel into the promised land and explains the division of the land among the tribes. What we are to learn from the book is that no moral or spiritual battles are won without God, He gives victory to all who let Him lead them. “There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.” – Joshua 1:5.

Moses died and now it was time for Joshua to prepare the people to cross over the Jordan and into the promised land. Joshua had a big job to do, and it was not going to be easy to fill Moses’ shoes, but God gives him the key that will lead to his success.

There shall not any man be able to stand before thee all the days of thy life: as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee: I will not fail thee, nor forsake thee. Be strong and of a good courage: for unto this people shalt thou divide for an inheritance the land, which I sware unto their fathers to give them. Only be thou strong and very courageous, that thou mayest observe to do according to all the law, which Moses my servant commanded thee: turn not from it to the right hand or to the left, that thou mayest prosper whithersoever thou goest. This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; but thou shalt meditate therein day and night, that thou mayest observe to do according to all that is written therein: for then thou shalt make thy way prosperous, and then thou shalt have good success. Have not I commanded thee? Be strong and of a good courage; be not afraid, neither be thou dismayed: for the LORD thy God is with thee whithersoever thou goest.” – Joshua 1:5-9.

This book of the law shall not depart out of thy mouth; The key to success and prosperity is the Word of God, it must be our guide in every decision we make. If fact, God is the only one who can guide us, teach us, and reach us in a way that not only blesses us, but those around us so they too can see how great God is. God’s Word keeps us in check with God, reminds us of His promises as well as any correction we need. We must be strong and have the courage to do things God’s way, even if that means we face opposition from our family and friends. You see, when we have done everything that we can do in our own strength, it is Christ who steps in and gives us the strength to continue. “I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.” – Philippians 4:13.

Joshua sent two men over into Jericho to search it out, just to see what they were up against. Word had already gotten out that the people of Israel, and their God, were about to come in and siege the land so when people found out that some Israelites were there they searched all over to capture and kill them. They ran into a woman, a prostitute named Rahab, she hid them and asked them of one thing in return for her kindness.

And she said unto the men, I know that the LORD hath given you the land, and that your terror is fallen upon us, and that all the inhabitants of the land faint because of you. For we have heard how the LORD dried up the water of the Red sea for you, when ye came out of Egypt; and what ye did unto the two kings of the Amorites, that were on the other side Jordan, Sihon and Og, whom ye utterly destroyed. And as soon as we had heard these things, our hearts did melt, neither did there remain any more courage in any man, because of you: for the LORD your God, he is God in heaven above, and in earth beneath. Now therefore, I pray you, swear unto me by the LORD, since I have shewed you kindness, that ye will also shew kindness unto my father’s house, and give me a true token: And that ye will save alive my father, and my mother, and my brethren, and my sisters, and all that they have, and deliver our lives from death. And the men answered her, Our life for yours, if ye utter not this our business. And it shall be, when the LORD hath given us the land, that we will deal kindly and truly with thee.” – Joshua 2:9-14.

I know that the LORD hath given you the land,” You see, the world already knows what will come of them the day Christ returns, while many will try to fight and change their fate, a few will hear the warning and plea to be saved before that happens. All who come to Christ will be saved, but unless they come to Him and receive Him as there Saviour there is nothing He can do to save them. “That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.” – Romans 10:9-12.

The spies returned three days later, Joshua gathered the congregation together to make the trip over the Jordan, they would literally be walking across the Jordan river on dry land, just as they did with Moses on the floor of the Red Sea. First he instructed the Levites to go ahead of everyone else, as God commanded.

And they commanded the people, saying, When ye see the ark of the covenant of the LORD your God, and the priests the Levites bearing it, then ye shall remove from your place, and go after it. Yet there shall be a space between you and it, about two thousand cubits by measure: come not near unto it, that ye may know the way by which ye must go: for ye have not passed this way heretofore. And Joshua said unto the people, Sanctify yourselves: for to morrow the LORD will do wonders among you. And Joshua spake unto the priests, saying, Take up the ark of the covenant, and pass over before the people. And they took up the ark of the covenant, and went before the people. And the LORD said unto Joshua, This day will I begin to magnify thee in the sight of all Israel, that they may know that, as I was with Moses, so I will be with thee.” – Joshua 3:3-7.

that ye may know the way by which ye must go:” Sometimes we have to stand still in order to see the wonders of God. He is always before us, preparing our path, if we walk ahead of Him we cannot see Him, likewise, if we lag too far behind. By standing still we not only see which way we are to go, we see God, who is always doing something mighty when we have the patience to wait for Him. “But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him. But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.” – I Corinthians 2:9,10.

Jesus Christ Magnified: Today Christ is revealed through Joshua as he was called to lead the people into the promised land. Jesus is our great Shepherd that leads all who follow Him into the Kingdom of God. “For ye were as sheep going astray; but are now returned unto the Shepherd and Bishop of your souls.” – I Peter 2:25.

Today’s Prayer: God, You have called us for a purpose, and commanded us to be strong and have courage to do what You called us to do. Lord, We can do all things through Your Son in us, You are our strength, as we study Your word and talk to You daily we can do all things. Give us Your power, Your strength, and Your guidance, help us to fulfill the task You called us to do. Let us not look to the right or left, just straight ahead, trusting You to help us succeed. And when You are done with us we have the promise of life in Your Kingdom waiting for us. Hallelujah! In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
