Message: In Due Season

Hello My Friend,

I was reading through some of my devotions from the past few years when I realized just how quickly things change, just how merciful God is, and if you are not careful time can slip between your fingers. When the Bible says that life is but a vapor, it truly is. At this point, I do not know if I want to attempt to live by this passage, [James 4:14-15  Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.  15  For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.]

Or this one, [Ecclesiastes 3:11-13  He hath made every thing beautiful in his time: also he hath set the world in their heart, so that no man can find out the work that God maketh from the beginning to the end.  12  I know that there is no good in them, but for a man to rejoice, and to do good in his life.  13  And also that every man should eat and drink, and enjoy the good of all his labour, it is the gift of God.]

Well, if I know God, and while I am no expert, I am petty sure that He wants me to live by both. Let me tell you, my family has gone through so much these past few months that no matter where we turn we are hitting a wall. I even went as far as to tell my husband that we needed to start being more hospitable to each other because we seem to have lost that with all that is going on and God is angry with us. And I will say this, the struggles of life truly can blind us from what is important and all that God has done for us over the years. He has never let us down, and He will never let us down, which is why we hit those walls. We need to think like Job on this, [Job 23:8-10  Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:  9  On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:  10  But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.]

For the thirty-eight years that the Israelites spent wandering in the wilderness/dessert there were so many things going on from the rebellions and worshiping of false gods that they stopped observing the feasts that God had instituted. As we continue in the reading of Numbers, it was time that the new generation start observing these. First, God, commands Moses to teach them about the daily offerings and sacrifices.

[Numbers 28:2-7  Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.  3  And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering.  4  The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;  5  And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil.  6  It is a continual burnt offering, which was ordained in mount Sinai for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.  7  And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.]

[shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.] We who are saved and born again are to give ourselves as living sacrifices morning and night, but God wants certain things from us at certain times. We are to always be ready and willing to do what He wants us to do, [Romans 12:1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.]

[cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.] The wine poured out in the drink-offering was to be strong wine, meaning straight up juice from the vine, to teach them to serve God with the best that they have. This is a reminder that God sent His very best to save every soul who comes to Him through His Son and it is the blood of His Son that was shed to send up that sweet savor, [2 Corinthians 2:15  For we are unto God a sweet savour of Christ, in them that are saved, and in them that perish:]

Life does have the tendency to take up a lot of our time, we wear ourselves out with works that have nothing to do with God’s will for our lives. And that is why God came up with the Sabbath and monthly offering in addition to the daily offerings. Now, God repeats the Sabbath and monthly offerings.

[Numbers 28:9-11,15  And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:  10  This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.  11  And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot; 15  And one kid of the goats for a sin offering unto the LORD shall be offered, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.]

[beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.] Notice that each time God mentions these special offerings that He made sure to point out that these were in addition to the daily offering. While God would like the first and last part of our day, He would not mind the first part of our week as well as each month to observe all that He has done for us. Nevertheless, He knows that our time slots get filled quickly, it is not really the amount of time that we spend with God that makes the impact, it is how we spend our time with Him. Which brings us to the Holy Days of each year, beginning with the Passover.

[Numbers 28:16-17,19,22-24,26-27  And in the fourteenth day of the first month is the passover of the LORD.  17  And in the fifteenth day of this month is the feast: seven days shall unleavened bread be eaten.  19  But ye shall offer a sacrifice made by fire for a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, and seven lambs of the first year: they shall be unto you without blemish: 22  And one goat for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you.  23  Ye shall offer these beside the burnt offering in the morning, which is for a continual burnt offering.  24  After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering. 26  Also in the day of the firstfruits, when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD, after your weeks be out, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work:  27  But ye shall offer the burnt offering for a sweet savour unto the LORD; two young bullocks, one ram, seven lambs of the first year;]

[they shall be unto you without blemish…to make an atonement for you.] Since Christ is the permanent atonement for every soul who receives Him whatever we give to God we need to make sure that it is pure and unblemished, meaning it is given willingly, sincerely, and with all our heart, [1 Peter 1:13-14,18-19  Wherefore gird up the loins of your mind, be sober, and hope to the end for the grace that is to be brought unto you at the revelation of Jesus Christ;  14  As obedient children, not fashioning yourselves according to the former lusts in your ignorance: 18  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot:]

[when ye bring a new meat offering unto the LORD,] This day was also known as the Day of Pentecost, it was observed seven weeks after the Passover. They were to bring an offering of their first harvest of the year as a token of thanks to God for a successful crop. This is something that we need to be practicing today, whatever it is that God gives us we need to be thankful, grateful, and return some of it as a token of thanksgiving, [2 Corinthians 9:6-7  But this I say, He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully.  7  Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.]

Being a cheerful giver is not about giving a specific amount back to God, it is about how we give it. Remember when Cain gave God of his crop and it was rejected? It was not the offering, it was the intent, [Genesis 4:5-7  But unto Cain and to his offering he had not respect. And Cain was very wroth, and his countenance fell.  6  And the LORD said unto Cain, Why art thou wroth? and why is thy countenance fallen?  7  If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him.]

Salvation does not keep us from sinning, as much as we would like to think that we are strong enough to resist sin, we cannot on our own. And this is why it is necessary for us to come to God, pretty much daily, confessing our sins. When things get really out of hand, we need to reflect on those things, and get right with God, which is why God instituted the Day of Atonement.

[Numbers 29:1,6-8,11  And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you. 6  Beside the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD.  7  And ye shall have on the tenth day of this seventh month an holy convocation; and ye shall afflict your souls: ye shall not do any work therein:  8  But ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD for a sweet savour; one young bullock, one ram, and seven lambs of the first year; they shall be unto you without blemish: 11  One kid of the goats for a sin offering; beside the sin offering of atonement, and the continual burnt offering, and the meat offering of it, and their drink offerings.]

[a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.] The feast of Trumpets was observed between September and October, and during this time there were more feasts to observe than any other time of the year, sort of like our time in America between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. These trumpets were not your average trumpet, they were rams horns, and some of them were very long and twisted, and in order to get sound to come out of them it took a lot of effort. Sometimes, we too need to take a little more effort in order to get God’s attention, and that is where prayer and fasting come in, [Matthew 17:20-21  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  21  Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.]

[Beside the burnt offering of the month,] God, points out that they were not to put aside the other offerings should the Holy Days fall on those days. Holidays, are not the time to slack in our daily time with God, and this is why many churches will keep the doors open on holidays when they fall on a Sunday or Wednesday. We need to be like David every time the church doors are open, [Psalms 122:1  A Song of degrees of David. I was glad when they said unto me, Let us go into the house of the LORD.]

Soon after the day of atonement, the day in which men were to afflict their souls, followed the feast of Tabernacles, in which they were to rejoice before the Lord for seven days straight, and doing no work at all.

[Numbers 29:12-13,32,35-36,39  And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days:  13  And ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD; thirteen young bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year; they shall be without blemish: 32  And on the seventh day seven bullocks, two rams, and fourteen lambs of the first year without blemish: 35  On the eighth day ye shall have a solemn assembly: ye shall do no servile work therein:  36  But ye shall offer a burnt offering, a sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: one bullock, one ram, seven lambs of the first year without blemish: 39  These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.]

[and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days:] I just realized that each day that only the burnt offering was one less each day, meaning the first day thirteen bullocks were offered, then on the seventh day only two were offered. This is a reminder that once we accept Christ as our Saviour as we allow the Holy Spirit to direct our paths we will learn that we will sin less. We are not sinless, but we do sin less, [Romans 12:2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.]

The high priests, priests, and those who cleaned up after all the sacrifices were made must have been exhausted by the end of that week. It really is a sacrifice to dedicate your life to Christ, and is something that even though He chooses for us, must be offered willingly. If we are going to make a vow to trust and accept that Christ alone will save our soul, then God expects us to follow through and do more than just get saved. God reiterates the importance of fulfilling our vows made to Him.

[Numbers 30:2-5  If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.  3  If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;  4  And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.  5  But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.]

[he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.] God took it very seriously when He sent His Son to die on the cross for our sin. Jesus took it very seriously when He died on the cross for our sin, the least, we can do is follow through with our commitment to Him. Does He expect perfection? No, Christ perfects us. What He does expects is faithfulness, [Hebrews 10:35-36  Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.  36  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.]

[because her father disallowed her.] An unmarried woman, whether she is living in her father’s house or not, lives in subjection to her father because of his obligation to provide for her until she is married, [1 Corinthians 7:32-33  But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:  33  But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.]

However, in the case of a married woman things were a little different, if her husband had a problem with the vow that she made, he would need to fulfill the vow for her.

[Numbers 30:6-8,13-15  And if she had at all an husband, when she vowed, or uttered ought out of her lips, wherewith she bound her soul;  7  And her husband heard it, and held his peace at her in the day that he heard it: then her vows shall stand, and her bonds wherewith she bound her soul shall stand.  8  But if her husband disallowed her on the day that he heard it; then he shall make her vow which she vowed, and that which she uttered with her lips, wherewith she bound her soul, of none effect: and the LORD shall forgive her. 13  Every vow, and every binding oath to afflict the soul, her husband may establish it, or her husband may make it void.  14  But if her husband altogether hold his peace at her from day to day; then he establisheth all her vows, or all her bonds, which are upon her: he confirmeth them, because he held his peace at her in the day that he heard them.  15  But if he shall any ways make them void after that he hath heard them; then he shall bear her iniquity.]

[But if he shall any ways make them void…then he shall bear her iniquity.] This goes back to the woman being subjective to the man. A married woman lives in subjection to her husband, and often takes care of his needs, which God forgives because she is obligated to put her husband first. However, he would then be responsible for fulfilling that vow or else he would suffer the consequence of the vow being broken, [1 Corinthians 7:32-34  But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:  33  But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.  34  There is difference also between a wife and a virgin. The unmarried woman careth for the things of the Lord, that she may be holy both in body and in spirit: but she that is married careth for the things of the world, how she may please her husband.]

Jesus Christ Revealed/Magnified: [Numbers 28:2  Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for loving us so much that You gave Your life, through Your Son, so that we can not only have eternal life, but become one of Your children. I never want to lose out on the amazing life that I can have with You. Lord, lead me and guide me, give me Your power to walk with You daily, help me to keep my eyes on You, not on the circumstances or people trying to hinder me. Give me Your strength to endure temptation, let me never forget Your promises, keep giving me those reminders that You are always with me, and that in due season, I will receive Your rewards. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
