Chapters: Song Of Solomon 1-4
Message: Consider The Lilies

Hello My Friend,

[The Lily of The Valley; I have found a friend in Jesus. He’s everything to me. He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul. The lily of the valley and in Him alone I see, All I need to cleanse and make me fully whole. In sorrow He’s my comfort, in trouble He’s my stay, He tells me every care on Him to roll…He’s the lily of the valley, the bright and morning star, He’s the fairest of ten thousand to my soul.]

[Valley; The lowest part of any thing; Loneliness; a state of being alone; Shelter; That which covers or defends from injury or annoyance. Life can definitely place us in the valley, but it is often in the valley that we feel the hand of Jesus upon us like no other times. Jesus truly is the shelter that covers us when we are at our lowest. He is beautiful as He shines through us, revealing His glorious splendor as we tell Him our every care. We have nothing to fear when we put our faith and trust in Christ, sometimes our faith does take a toll on us when we are in the valley, all need to do to remind us of our faith is to consider the lily.

[Luke 12:27-28  Consider the lilies how they grow: they toil not, they spin not; and yet I say unto you, that Solomon in all his glory was not arrayed like one of these.  28  If then God so clothe the grass, which is to day in the field, and to morrow is cast into the oven; how much more will he clothe you, O ye of little faith?]

The Book of Song of Solomon contains eight chapters, the author is King Solomon, it was written to his bride and to all believers. The timeline is approximately 1014 BC. The purpose of the book is to show the intimate relationship between Jesus and the Church as demonstrated by the intimate marriage relationship between a husband and his bride. What we are to learn from the book is that the divine model of love between a man and his wife is the pattern for a relationship between Christ (Man) and the Church (His Bride), [Song of Solomon 2:16  My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.]

The chapter begins with the bride describing her love for her beloved, but she has neglected him and now longs to make things right with him, [Song of Solomon 1:1-2,4-7  The song of songs, which is Solomon’s.  2  Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine.  4  Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee.]

[The song of songs,] This is actually a song, it is recorded in 1 Kings 4. that Solomon wrote a thousand and five songs. I actually tried to put a melody to the words, Christ’s love for us far exceeds any lover we will ever receive. When we are in the valley, we want to get out quickly and run for the hills, but that is actually the least thing we ought to be doing, what we need to do is run to Jesus. He is our beloved, our King, our safety, and yes, our wine, in which we never thirst, and that even in the valley that we are covered under His blood, [1 Corinthians 11:25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.]

Once we accept Christ as our Saviour we become His bride, meaning we enter into a marriage with Him, one that even in death we do not part. Sadly, many get saved, but do not let Jesus take them apart from their salvation, and because they do not do that they face much sorrow. As the song continues, the bride to be is reminded of a time of great sorrow when she neglected her beloved.

[Song of Solomon 1:5-8  I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon.  6  Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept.  7  Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?  8  If thou know not, O thou fairest among women, go thy way forth by the footsteps of the flock, and feed thy kids beside the shepherds’ tents.]

[but mine own vineyard have I not kept.] We cannot get saved and just go about our lives as normal, we belong to Jesus, and therefore, we need to allow Him to prune and shape us as He sees fit. He knows what is best for us, and when we allow Him to take us is, we literally become new. He is the Vine, and we are the branches that can only bud and flourish as we give Him our lives, [John 15:1-4  I am the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.  2  Every branch in me that beareth not fruit he taketh away: and every branch that beareth fruit, he purgeth it, that it may bring forth more fruit.  3  Now ye are clean through the word which I have spoken unto you.  4  Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself, except it abide in the vine; no more can ye, except ye abide in me.]

There is nothing more exciting than the day you get saved and discover not only that you are saved, but that you and Jesus are one. Once we receive Him as our Saviour we are His and He is ours, it is literally a marriage made from heaven. The lily of the valley, is known for its tiny pure white, bell-shaped flowers and unforgettable fragrance. Its beauty and fragrance foreshadow Jesus Christ, in this song, special attention is given to the lily of the valley, and also a rose, and if you read the passage carefully you will discover that this is Jesus Himself speaking, [Song of Solomon 2:1-4  I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys.  2  As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters.  3  As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste.  4  He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love.]

[so is my beloved among the sons.] Man or woman, Christ’s love for us is the same, this is a love far beyond that between spouses or even a parent and their children. This is the love of Christ, His banner of love over us is His blood, and it is so sweet. One day will see just how much Christ’s love has covered us. We are beautiful in His eyes, clothed in His righteousness, adorned with the graces of His Spirit and thrive only in the bosom of our Saviour. Those whose hearts are filled with the love of Christ and the hope of heaven are rejoicing in Him and longing for the day He calls them for the wedding feast, [Song of Solomon 2:8-10,16  The voice of my beloved! behold, he cometh leaping upon the mountains, skipping upon the hills.  9  My beloved is like a roe or a young hart: behold, he standeth behind our wall, he looketh forth at the windows, shewing himself through the lattice.  10  My beloved spake, and said unto me, Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away. 16  My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.]

[Rise up, my love, my fair one, and come away.] When we are in the valley we can lose our hearing to Christ calling us. I can remember the time when I was in the valley so deep that I literally heard Jesus scream out to me, “Get Up!”. Now, when you hear Jesus tell you to get up, you get up, and it does not matter what state you are in, He literally lifts you up. We are one with Jesus, we are not alone, He is our Comforter, He is our beloved, and is always standing at the door waiting for us to let Him in so that He can take care of us, [Revelation 3:20  Behold, I stand at the door, and knock: if any man hear my voice, and open the door, I will come in to him, and will sup with him, and he with me.]

The soul, you cannot see it or touch it physically, but you definitely know it is there. A lonely soul is probably the most noticeable as it never rests until it finds it’s one true source of happiness. As the song continues we get an illustration of the brides lonely soul, seeking her one true love.

[Song of Solomon 3:1-4,10-11  By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.  2  I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not.  3  The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth?  4  It was but a little that I passed from them, but I found him whom my soul loveth: I held him, and would not let him go, until I had brought him into my mother’s house, and into the chamber of her that conceived me. 10  He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem. 11  Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.]

[and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him] We will all receive crowns the day we stand before our bridegroom, some will receive more than others, but we will all receive a crown of righteousness that allows us to stand before Him, [2 Timothy 4:7-8  I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith:  8  Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing.]

When a man and woman become husband and wife they become one flesh as they become intimate, they are joined together for life as one flesh. The same is true when we accept Christ as our Saviour, we are one flesh through the blood that He pours into our soul the second we receive Him. Now, even though we are saved, our soul can still feel disconnected from Him, especially when we are in the valley. When the soul is away from the one it loves it feels alone and disconnected from their love, longing for the day they can reunite. Jesus rejoices over every soul that reunites with Him. Solomon now, speaks of his bride and love for her.

[Song of Solomon 4:6-10  Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.  7  Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee.  8  Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards.  9  Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.  10  How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices!]

[Thou hast ravished my heart,] Jesus loves us so much that He gave His life for us, His heart rejoices at every souls that receives Him. A sister in this case is a woman of the same faith, one of the same kind, or of the same condition. Solomon responds just as his bride did, her love to him was more valuable that the most desirable and precious things of the earth. Of all the things God created, man is the most valuable and while Jesus would love to save all, He only marries into those who are of the same faith, meaning those who believe in and have receive Him alone as their Saviour, [John 3:16-18  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.  17  For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.  18  He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.]

Jesus Christ Magnified: [Song of Solomon 1:4  Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. Song of Solomon 2:1  I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. Song of Solomon 3:10  He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem. Song of Solomon 4:16  Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, You long to have a one on one relationship with us, one that is full of faith, trust, and honor, just as a husband and wife do when they vow to be one. While nothing is sure in life, one thing is sure, nothing can separate us from Your love. We may find ourselves in the valley, but You will are always with us. It can be so easy to neglect You when we are in the valley, forgive us where we have neglected You. We know that there is nothing that will separate us from You, and that You are always with us, if we have strayed, if we have pulled away, You are always there calling us home. Thank You for never leaving, nor forsaking, and always being there with open arms to welcome us when we hear Your voice. Lord, Lead us and guide us, give us Your power to know You and love You with all our soul, heart, and mind, and fill us with Your grace, and mercy to suffice the day. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
