Message: Jesus, Our Intercessor

Hello My Friend,

Intercessor; To pass in between; One who passes between parties, to plead a reconciliation; a mediator. As much as God would love to hear everyone’s plea and take care of all their needs, the truth is He only hears the pleas of those who are saved. It is sin the separates God from man, and from the first sin committed to the last one, an intercessor has always been needed on mans behalf to stand before God and act as our lawyer to plead our case. In the beginning God used His prophets or Godly men and women to be an intercessor, but now we have only one intercessor, and that is Jesus Christ. “For this is good and acceptable in the sight of God our Saviour; Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” – I Timothy 2:3-6.

After all that came to pass regarding the golden calf, God was not too confident in Israel, He did not even want to be in the presence of the people anymore, calling them stiffnecked (stubborn). Moses set up the tabernacle at a distance from the congregation, he enters the tent as God’s Spirit departed and stood before the door of the tent, speaking with Moses one on one. Moses pleads for God to show him what to do with the people.

“And it came to pass, when Moses went out unto the tabernacle, that all the people rose up, and stood every man at his tent door, and looked after Moses, until he was gone into the tabernacle. And it came to pass, as Moses entered into the tabernacle, the cloudy pillar descended, and stood at the door of the tabernacle, and the LORD talked with Moses. And all the people saw the cloudy pillar stand at the tabernacle door: and all the people rose up and worshipped, every man in his tent door. And the LORD spake unto Moses face to face, as a man speaketh unto his friend. And he turned again into the camp: but his servant Joshua, the son of Nun, a young man, departed not out of the tabernacle. And Moses said unto the LORD, See, thou sayest unto me, Bring up this people: and thou hast not let me know whom thou wilt send with me. Yet thou hast said, I know thee by name, and thou hast also found grace in my sight. Now therefore, I pray thee, if I have found grace in thy sight, shew me now thy way, that I may know thee, that I may find grace in thy sight: and consider that this nation is thy people.” – Exodus 33:8-13.

“and consider that this nation is thy people.” God has a lot to consider when He deals with His people, first of all, we do need an intercessor since we are stiffnecked, and we also need someone to show us the way. This is where Jesus comes in, He is our guide, the one we are to follow to live the life that God wants us to live. If we leave it up to our own reasoning on how we worship God we end up like Israel and the golden calf, and then we gets God’s wrath instead of His grace. “Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am. If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet. For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him. If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.” – John 13:13-17.

Now, God instructs Moses to make two more tablets of stone and carry them back up to Mt Sinai, it was there that God met with him again. God descended in the cloud, proclaiming His NAME, His perfections, and character, He is merciful, gracious, longsuffering, and has an abundance of goodness and truth.

“And the LORD passed by before him, and proclaimed, The LORD, The LORD God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth, Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children’s children, unto the third and to the fourth generation. And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped. And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance. And he said, Behold, I make a covenant: before all thy people I will do marvels, such as have not been done in all the earth, nor in any nation: and all the people among which thou art shall see the work of the LORD: for it is a terrible thing that I will do with thee. Observe thou that which I command thee this day: behold, I drive out before thee the Amorite, and the Canaanite, and the Hittite, and the Perizzite, and the Hivite, and the Jebusite. Take heed to thyself, lest thou make a covenant with the inhabitants of the land whither thou goest, lest it be for a snare in the midst of thee:” – Exodus 34:6-12.

“and pardon our iniquity and our sin,” While God could strike down anyone in the blink of an eye, He is always merciful, ready to forgive the vilest of sinners, He truly is gracious, kind, and gives so many blessings even though we do not deserve them. Is God boasting about who He is? No. He is proclaiming who He is. The word proclaim means to declare with honor. Every child of God should never be ashamed to proclaim that they are a born again, child of the living God through Jesus Christ. If we cannot proclaim that we are a child of the King, than perhaps we are not. “For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed. For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.” – Romans 10:11-13.

Sometimes, all it takes is a little fear for people to see that they need God, and once they do, they willingly want to follow His commands and serve Him as He calls them. Moses came back down and told the congregation God’s plan, and for the first time since they left Egypt they willingly began doing exactly what God instructed.

“And they came, every one whose heart stirred him up, and every one whom his spirit made willing, and they brought the LORD’S offering to the work of the tabernacle of the congregation, and for all his service, and for the holy garments. And they came, both men and women, as many as were willing hearted, and brought bracelets, and earrings, and rings, and tablets, all jewels of gold: and every man that offered offered an offering of gold unto the LORD. The children of Israel brought a willing offering unto the LORD, every man and woman, whose heart made them willing to bring for all manner of work, which the LORD had commanded to be made by the hand of Moses.” – Exodus 35:21-22,29.

“and every one whom his spirit made willing,” Many people proclaim to be faithful to God when things are going well, but the true test comes when He seems no be where around. There are three things that God is looking for when He steps aside and lets us, in a sense be alone for a while, 1) Faith, 2) Trust, and 3) Obedience. If we walk by faith and trust Him, we will become more obedient to Him and we are more willing to serve Him. “And the servant of the Lord must not strive; but be gentle unto all men, apt to teach, patient, In meekness instructing those that oppose themselves; if God peradventure will give them repentance to the acknowledging of the truth; And that they may recover themselves out of the snare of the devil, who are taken captive by him at his will.” – II Timothy 2:24-26.

Jesus Christ Magnified: Today, Jesus is revealed through Moses as he became the intercessor for the people. Jesus stands before God and pleads for the soul of every sinner who comes to Him. “Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.” – Romans 8:34.

Today’s Prayer: God, As much as we try to be faithful to You circumstances and life seems to always put us to the test. Time and time again, You prove that even when we do not see You You are working in our lives, You are growing us and preparing us for not only the task You call us to do, but to receive the promises You have for us. I am on Your side God, I want to be in Your will, even when You seem far away. Lord, lead me and guide me, give me Your power to remain faithful at all times, You grace to get back up when I get stalled, and Your strength to keep going even when I do not see You. I ask these things in the name of Jesus, Amen.
