Message: Have No Fear About Your Life

Fate, destiny, predestined, prophecy, whatever you call it, no matter who we are, there are some things that we are to go through that have all ready been predetermined for us. Does God know everything about us? Yes, He made us. Does God know what is in our future? Yes, He sees every decision we make. Does God determine from birth who is saved from hell? Yes, His believers. God has already predetermined that all who believe in and receive His Son as their Saviour will be saved. Regardless of what people believe, there is only one way to be saved, and that is through Jesus Christ. “For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.” – Romans 8:29-30.
The prophecies have been told from old that God would send someone to change the way sin was atoned for, there would always be blood required for redemption, but this time it would be permanent, and the man that would change that was Jesus Christ Himself. Jesus knew the time had come, He must fulfill what He came here to do. He even speaks with the disciples two days prior to His capture. “And it came to pass, when Jesus had finished all these sayings, he said unto his disciples, Ye know that after two days is the feast of the passover, and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified. Then assembled together the chief priests, and the scribes, and the elders of the people, unto the palace of the high priest, who was called Caiaphas, And consulted that they might take Jesus by subtilty, and kill him. But they said, Not on the feast day, lest there be an uproar among the people. Then one of the twelve, called Judas Iscariot, went unto the chief priests, And said unto them, What will ye give me, and I will deliver him unto you? And they covenanted with him for thirty pieces of silver. And from that time he sought opportunity to betray him.” – Matthew 26:1-5,14-16.
“and the Son of man is betrayed to be crucified.” This is in the prophecies, from the moment Judas knew he was going to get something out of turning Jesus in he sought the opportunity to betray Him. He often told them that He would be betrayed, but this time He tells them that it would actually be one of them.
“Now the first day of the feast of unleavened bread the disciples came to Jesus, saying unto him, Where wilt thou that we prepare for thee to eat the passover? And he said, Go into the city to such a man, and say unto him, The Master saith, My time is at hand; I will keep the passover at thy house with my disciples. And the disciples did as Jesus had appointed them; and they made ready the passover. Now when the even was come, he sat down with the twelve. And as they did eat, he said, Verily I say unto you, that one of you shall betray me. And they were exceeding sorrowful, and began every one of them to say unto him, Lord, is it I? And he answered and said, He that dippeth his hand with me in the dish, the same shall betray me. The Son of man goeth as it is written of him: but woe unto that man by whom the Son of man is betrayed! it had been good for that man if he had not been born. Then Judas, which betrayed him, answered and said, Master, is it I? He said unto him, Thou hast said.” – Matthew 26:17-25.
“And they were exceeding sorrowful,” By choice we follow Christ and as we grow closer to Him we become more like Him, this is not fate, rather it is our allowing the Holy Spirit to work in us and then we start to see our fate unfold. The problem with becoming more like Christ is that we start seeing our flesh for how wretched it is, so it is not uncommon for us to question ourselves when Jesus says He knows who will betray Him. This is still true today, just because He is not physically walking with us that does not mean traitors are not among the believing just waiting to find the right time to betray Him. They ate, sang songs, and then went out to Mount Olives, where Jesus often prayed.
“And when they had sung an hymn, they went out into the mount of Olives. Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad. But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee. Peter answered and said unto him, Though all men shall be offended because of thee, yet will I never be offended. Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, That this night, before the cock crow, thou shalt deny me thrice. Peter said unto him, Though I should die with thee, yet will I not deny thee. Likewise also said all the disciples. Then cometh Jesus with them unto a place called Gethsemane, and saith unto the disciples, Sit ye here, while I go and pray yonder. And he took with him Peter and the two sons of Zebedee, and began to be sorrowful and very heavy. Then saith he unto them, My soul is exceeding sorrowful, even unto death: tarry ye here, and watch with me. And he went a little further, and fell on his face, and prayed, saying, O my Father, if it be possible, let this cup pass from me: nevertheless not as I will, but as thou wilt.” – Matthew 26:30-39.
“My soul is exceeding sorrowful,” Jesus, fully knowing and accepting what His fate is, chose to follow through living in the will of God, but that does not mean His flesh does not feel sorrow over what is to come. We do it ourselves, feel deep sorrow over something painful, something we know we cannot take control of. Sometimes, the will of God takes us to places we cannot imagine, and if not for the power of God we would never endure them. While God would rather see us receive His Son and trust Him with all things without any pain and agony in our lives, the majority of the time people do not understand the purpose of having received Him until they are faced with pain and agony. It is the pains and agony’s of life that not only bring us closer to God, but a deeper understanding of where He wants us to be in this life, and looking forward to what is next to come. When Jesus returns, He was betrayed by Judas and captured.
“Now he that betrayed him gave them a sign, saying, Whomsoever I shall kiss, that same is he: hold him fast. And forthwith he came to Jesus, and said, Hail, master; and kissed him. And Jesus said unto him, Friend, wherefore art thou come? Then came they, and laid hands on Jesus, and took him. And, behold, one of them which were with Jesus stretched out his hand, and drew his sword, and struck a servant of the high priest’s, and smote off his ear. Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels? But how then shall the scriptures be fulfilled, that thus it must be? In that same hour said Jesus to the multitudes, Are ye come out as against a thief with swords and staves for to take me? I sat daily with you teaching in the temple, and ye laid no hold on me. But all this was done, that the scriptures of the prophets might be fulfilled. Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.” – Matthew 26:48-56.
“Then all the disciples forsook him, and fled.” They all ran out of fear, and even though they ran Jesus knew their faith, He knew they did not renounce their faith, rather feared they would be captured and crucified as well. There have been countless men and women whom lost their lives defending their faith in Christ, and it is even going on today. In fact, all of the disciples were martyred eventually for defending their faith too, except for John. We too run out of fear sometimes, but there does come a time when we realize that we need not fear what man can do to us because, life or death, we belong to Jesus, and have ever lasting life. “Now he that hath wrought us for the selfsame thing is God, who also hath given unto us the earnest of the Spirit. Therefore we are always confident, knowing that, whilst we are at home in the body, we are absent from the Lord: (For we walk by faith, not by sight:) We are confident, I say, and willing rather to be absent from the body, and to be present with the Lord.” – II Corinthians 5:5-8.
Jesus Christ Magnified: “For this is my blood of the new testament, which is shed for many for the remission of sins. But I say unto you, I will not drink henceforth of this fruit of the vine, until that day when I drink it new with you in my Father’s kingdom.” – Matthew 26:28-29.
Today’s Prayer: God, There are many things in this world that I do not understand, there are many times I see my life and wonder if it is really in Your will for me or just me trying to alter fate. Thank You for watching over us and protecting us as we walk this journey with You. It is not always easy are there are many willing to sell us out for their own selfish greed. Lord, lead us and guide us, give us wisdom to know how to speak to everyone, discernment to know if someone is a wolf, Your mercy and grace to see us through, and the courage to always proclaim You Son as our Saviour. With You by my side, I know I can do and endure all things. I pray this in Jesus’ name. Amen.
