Message: Power of The Spirit

Hello My Friend,

People do not realize that when Jesus was here in the flesh, God gave Him the same emotions and likenesses that we have, while He was not born with the sin nature that we have, that did not mean that He was not capable of committing sin. The devil actually tempted Him more often than we realize, yet He overcame it by keeping His eyes in the Word of God and applying it daily. You know, the biggest reason people fall has nothing to do with our being born with a sin nature, or the devil tempting us, but everything to do with what is in our heart. Remember, the devil cannot make us do anything no more than God can, but h does know our weaknesses and desires, and will use them to try to get us to go against our faith. Anytime we fall into temptation it is because we took our eyes off Jesus and allowed the devil’s influence to take over, [James 1:13-14 Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.]

The Gospel of Mark is the second book of the New Testament, the forty-first book of the Bible, and contains sixteen chapters. The Author of the book is Mark and it was written to all believers, particularly intended to get the attention of the Romans, the Gentiles, who represented Jesus as a servant of God. The purpose of the book was to present the ministry of Jesus, stressing His role as a servant, and the Son of man. What we are to learn from the book is that we should seek to minister to others. The story of John the Baptist is written in three of the four Gospels, John is described as a pretty rugged looking guy, but carried a very important message, and did not care who they were, the same message applied to all, repent and be forgiven of your sins. People would flock to hear John and be baptized as a remission of their sins.

[Mark 1:2-8 As it is written in the prophets, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee. 3 The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. 4 John did baptize in the wilderness, and preach the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins. 5 And there went out unto him all the land of Judaea, and they of Jerusalem, and were all baptized of him in the river of Jordan, confessing their sins. 6 And John was clothed with camel’s hair, and with a girdle of a skin about his loins; and he did eat locusts and wild honey; 7 And preached, saying, There cometh one mightier than I after me, the latchet of whose shoes I am not worthy to stoop down and unloose. 8 I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.]

[but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.] Just like today, water baptism has never saved anyone, it was confessing their sin and seeking forgiveness from God that did. It is blood that has always been required for the remission of sin, back then they used unblemished animals in exchange for their own lives, but it was not a permanent solution, it had to be repeated every time they sinned. All that changed when Jesus gave His own life, the unblemished flesh of the Son of God is the only solution to permanent salvation. The people, being use to giving sacrifices and offerings to show repentance were seeing something completely different and flocked at the thought that they would be saved from their sins forever, in fact, asking him what they had to do to keep it.

[Luke 3:7-11,15 Then said he to the multitude that came forth to be baptized of him, O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come? 8 Bring forth therefore fruits worthy of repentance, and begin not to say within yourselves, We have Abraham to our father: for I say unto you, That God is able of these stones to raise up children unto Abraham. 9 And now also the axe is laid unto the root of the trees: every tree therefore which bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire. 10 And the people asked him, saying, What shall we do then? 11 He answereth and saith unto them, He that hath two coats, let him impart to him that hath none; and he that hath meat, let him do likewise. 15 And as the people were in expectation, and all men mused in their hearts of John, whether he were the Christ, or not;]

[whether he were the Christ, or not;] The second we get saved it is natural to want to find out what we have to do to keep our newfound spirit going. They noticed something different than what the priests and scribes were teaching them, wondering if this could be their long awaited Saviour that they heard of. John tells them of things they could do to show their remission, but stresses the importance of understanding that water baptism was not salvation, he was not their Saviour, but He would be coming soon. And who would soon appear, but Jesus Himself, and that did not stop Satan from trying to stop Him from the start, immediately after He gets baptized He was tempted.

[Luke 4:1-4,13-14 And Jesus being full of the Holy Ghost returned from Jordan, and was led by the Spirit into the wilderness, 2 Being forty days tempted of the devil. And in those days he did eat nothing: and when they were ended, he afterward hungered. 3 And the devil said unto him, If thou be the Son of God, command this stone that it be made bread. 4 And Jesus answered him, saying, It is written, That man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word of God. 13 And when the devil had ended all the temptation, he departed from him for a season. 14 And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee: and there went out a fame of him through all the region round about.]

[And Jesus returned in the power of the Spirit into Galilee:] You see, it is the devil’s intention is to get the one thing that God loved so much to worship him, and let me tell you, a lot do, our governments, and quite frankly, churches are swarming with people who got their power under the hand of the devil. And it really does take the more powerful hand of Holy Spirit to overcome his power. The biggest problem is, people want God in their lives, they just do not want to worship Him as He instructs. After Jesus endured the temptation of the devil He immediately began His ministry, He arrived home, went into the synagogue, sat down, listening, only to have the Scriptures handed to Him, He opened the scroll and began reading, and while they were intrigued, they would not accept His teaching.

[Luke 5:17-23  And it came to pass on a certain day, as he was teaching, that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by, which were come out of every town of Galilee, and Judaea, and Jerusalem: and the power of the Lord was present to heal them. 18 And, behold, men brought in a bed a man which was taken with a palsy: and they sought means to bring him in, and to lay him before him. 19 And when they could not find by what way they might bring him in because of the multitude, they went upon the housetop, and let him down through the tiling with his couch into the midst before Jesus. 20 And when he saw their faith, he said unto him, Man, thy sins are forgiven thee. 21 And the scribes and the Pharisees began to reason, saying, Who is this which speaketh blasphemies? Who can forgive sins, but God alone? 22 But when Jesus perceived their thoughts, he answering said unto them, What reason ye in your hearts? 23 Whether is easier, to say, Thy sins be forgiven thee; or to say, Rise up and walk?]

[that there were Pharisees and doctors of the law sitting by,] Do you see who always showed up? The religious and scientific groups. God actually sent them there to show them the true Physician, and that His power could heal even them, meaning their souls. However, these were the skeptics, the religious, the ones who made up their own laws and called them God’s, and just like Jesus said that it was easier to get a camel to go through the eye of a needle than a rich man to believe in Him, the same it pretty much true for the religious who are depending on their own works to heal (save) them from their sins. When a person lets go of their pride and realizes how sinful they are their first reaction is to hide from Jesus, but that is the amazing thing about Jesus, He accepts all who come to Him, regardless of their past, [Romans 10:9-10 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. 10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, I want You to be more than my Saviour, I want You to be LORD of my life. Lead me, and guide me, give me Your strength to walk and talk as You do. Put Your hedge of protection around me, and keep me looking to You, let me not fall into the temptations of the devil as he tries to get me to take my eyes off You. Give me Your power to overcome any sin that may be holding me back, I ask these things in Your name, Jesus, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
