Message: Thy Law Is My Delight

Hello My Friend,

As I was reading the chapter I kept thinking about how God’s Word gets into your head the more you read and study it to the point that the fleshy desires you once had do not even become a thought in your mind. And by the way, that is not our own thinking that brings us to that decision, that is the Holy Spirit, who teaches us all the things we need to know about God, [Matthew 10:19-20  But when they deliver you up, take no thought how or what ye shall speak: for it shall be given you in that same hour what ye shall speak.  20  For it is not ye that speak, but the Spirit of your Father which speaketh in you.]

Yes, it is the Holy Spirit inside of us that teaches us how to make the right decisions, which He often speaks through His Word. We do not always make the best choices, but God somehow knows how to use those choices to His advantage. While some of us are too stubborn to learn our lesson and keep going back to make the same unwise choices, most of us do learn to do it God’s way. Well, maybe that is the other way around, the honest truth is that very few Christians want to learn to do it God’s way. The Word of God is very powerful, it will even convict the devil, but he is too proud and stubborn to give up his dream to be God. Psalm 119 is the longest chapter in the Bible, it is separated into eight verse segments using the Hebrew alphabet. The object of the entire Psalm is the Bible, and is a reminder of how important it is to read, study, and follow all of it

[Psalms 119:1-6  ALEPH. Blessed are the undefiled in the way, who walk in the law of the LORD.  2  Blessed are they that keep his testimonies, and that seek him with the whole heart.  3  They also do no iniquity: they walk in his ways.  4  Thou hast commanded us to keep thy precepts diligently.  5  O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!  6  Then shall I not be ashamed, when I have respect unto all thy commandments.]

[O that my ways were directed to keep thy statutes!] [Precept; Any commandment or order intended as an authoritative rule of action, but applied particularly to commands respecting moral conduct.] By nature, and if we are honest with ourselves, we really do not seek the ways of God. The desire to seek His ways come as we first begin to realize that the world and all it has to offer is vain and corrupt. As I have said before, God is not a religion, and since most religions are based on mans commands and actually God’s it is no wonder why there is so much confusion and so many people oblivious to the fact that you cannot get saved and continue to live the way you were living. And this is exactly why we need to be in His Word continuously, it is the only way we can understand His ways, follow them, and turn away from our old ways.

[Psalms 119:9-16  BETH. Wherewithal shall a young man cleanse his way? by taking heed thereto according to thy word.  10  With my whole heart have I sought thee: O let me not wander from thy commandments.  11  Thy word have I hid in mine heart, that I might not sin against thee.  12  Blessed art thou, O LORD: teach me thy statutes.  13  With my lips have I declared all the judgments of thy mouth.  14  I have rejoiced in the way of thy testimonies, as much as in all riches.  15  I will meditate in thy precepts, and have respect unto thy ways.  16  I will delight myself in thy statutes: I will not forget thy word.]

[Thy word have I hid in mine heart,] Knowing God’s ways are one thing, doing them is another, we must have a willing heart in the first place if we are going to become obedient to His Word. With a willing and open heart, the Holy Spirit nudges us to the point that we need to get rid of that sin, or that doubt, or that mindset that we once had. Why? God’s Word has a way of showing us that many of the things we thought were good are actually sin. And I will tell you what, the worse feeling in the world after you are saved and start growing in your faith is discovering that it was actually against God that you sinned. You truly come to realize just how merciful God is and want to do things His way.

[Psalms 119:65-68,71-72  TETH. Thou hast dealt well with thy servant, O LORD, according unto thy word.  66  Teach me good judgment and knowledge: for I have believed thy commandments.  67  Before I was afflicted I went astray: but now have I kept thy word.  68  Thou art good, and doest good; teach me thy statutes. 71  It is good for me that I have been afflicted; that I might learn thy statutes.  72  The law of thy mouth is better unto me than thousands of gold and silver.]

[It is good for me that I have been afflicted;] I gotta say, most people get saved, and that is about all they do. Oh, they may pray, and even go to church on Sunday, but they are not grounded in the Word of God. If they were they would not be doing half the things they are doing. I know this to be true because I use to be one of them. I became so afflicted that I lost everything I owned and even my health until I realized I needed to hear what God is telling me. When I finally listened to God and took the time to read and study His Word I understood and began to remove the things from my life that were sinful. Are we sin free when we are saved and read all of His Word? No, but we do learn to sin less and remove things from our lives that hinder us. And this is why we must always keep His Word with us, it really is our hope and comfort through our afflictions.

[Psalms 119:74-77  They that fear thee will be glad when they see me; because I have hoped in thy word.  75  I know, O LORD, that thy judgments are right, and that thou in faithfulness hast afflicted me.  76  Let, I pray thee, thy merciful kindness be for my comfort, according to thy word unto thy servant.  77  Let thy tender mercies come unto me, that I may live: for thy law is my delight.]

[for thy law is my delight.] We can live by faith in God, but it is His Word that quickens that faith, it is His Word that increases that faith, it is His Word that gives us hope that He not only hears us, but answers us as well. God knows everything about us, after all, He made us, and of course, He knows whether or not our faith is vain. We are most effective in our Christian walk when we are not only hearers, but doers of His Word, and while we are no longer under the law of Moses, we can get a lot of insight from it, especially when it comes to understanding God Himself.

[Psalms 119:98-102  Thou through thy commandments hast made me wiser than mine enemies: for they are ever with me.  99  I have more understanding than all my teachers: for thy testimonies are my meditation.  100  I understand more than the ancients, because I keep thy precepts.  101  I have refrained my feet from every evil way, that I might keep thy word.  102  I have not departed from thy judgments: for thou hast taught me.]

[I have more understanding than all my teachers:] The more we learn and grow in His Word, the more obedient we become to it. We become wiser, more discerning, and able to recognize the truth from the lies of not only false religion, but those who are not true in their faith. God does not change, we do not keep the Law because it is a requirement to do so, we keep it because it is the right thing to do.

[Psalms 119:129-136  PE. Thy testimonies are wonderful: therefore doth my soul keep them.  130  The entrance of thy words giveth light; it giveth understanding unto the simple.  131  I opened my mouth, and panted: for I longed for thy commandments.  132  Look thou upon me, and be merciful unto me, as thou usest to do unto those that love thy name.  133  Order my steps in thy word: and let not any iniquity have dominion over me.  134  Deliver me from the oppression of man: so will I keep thy precepts.  135  Make thy face to shine upon thy servant; and teach me thy statutes.  136  Rivers of waters run down mine eyes, because they keep not thy law.]

[because they keep not thy law.] Salvation has nothing to do with good works, but good works after salvation is the best testimony we can give to show the love of God and Christ in us. Stop worrying about what everyone else is doing, focus on you, if everyone focused on what they are supposed to be doing then our nation would not be falling into the abyss of Satan. True Christians have no problem accepting every word to be true or that we are to follow all His commands, not out of obligation, but out of respect.

[Psalms 119:164-168,174-176  Seven times a day do I praise thee because of thy righteous judgments.  165  Great peace have they which love thy law: and nothing shall offend them.  166  LORD, I have hoped for thy salvation, and done thy commandments.  167  My soul hath kept thy testimonies; and I love them exceedingly.  168  I have kept thy precepts and thy testimonies: for all my ways are before thee. 174  I have longed for thy salvation, O LORD; and thy law is my delight.  175  Let my soul live, and it shall praise thee; and let thy judgments help me.  176  I have gone astray like a lost sheep; seek thy servant; for I do not forget thy commandments.]

[and nothing shall offend them.] When we are following the Word of God, we will not be offended by it or anyone who comes to us with accusations or righteous judgment. We are not perfect when we choose to live according to the Word of God, that is what grace is for, but we all need to be more grateful for our salvation and seek to please Him, not because it is required, but because it gives honor and glory to Jesus who saved us from the much deserved hell that He brought us out from, [James 1:23-25  For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:  24  For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgetteth what manner of man he was.  25  But whoso looketh into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.]

Jesus Christ Magnified: [Psalms 119:41  VAU. Let thy mercies come also unto me, O LORD, even thy salvation, according to thy word.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for Your Word, it really is a lamp to my feet and a light unto my path, when I am sad there is nothing like it to cheer me up, we I cannot see, it shows me the way, when I am fearful, it gives me hope, when I am weary, it is my strength, when I need correction, it is my conviction. Lord, I want to live in Your Word so I can live the best life here until You bring me home. Lead me and guide me, keep me in Your Word, give me Your power, wisdom, mercy, and grace to keep my heart tender so that I will hide it in my heart and not sin against You. Let me become the Godly testimony You need me to be to be the light that shines Your Son in this dark world. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
