Message: Conquering With Christ

Hello My Friend,

As I was reading the chapters for today this passage came to mind, [Matthew 22:41-45  While the Pharisees were gathered together, Jesus asked them,  42  Saying, What think ye of Christ? whose son is he? They say unto him, The Son of David.  43  He saith unto them, How then doth David in spirit call him Lord, saying,  44  The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool?  45  If David then call him Lord, how is he his son?]

When Jesus asked that question He was testing their faith as we who know Christ know that He descended in the flesh through the lineage of David. This prophecy was fulfilled partially when Christ was born of the virgin Mary, in which He took upon Him a human nature. So He became God manifested in the flesh, making Him not only the Son of man, but the Son of David as well.

[Luke 1:26-27,31-32  And in the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent from God unto a city of Galilee, named Nazareth,  27  To a virgin espoused to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David; and the virgin’s name was Mary. 31  And, behold, thou shalt conceive in thy womb, and bring forth a son, and shalt call his name JESUS.  32  He shall be great, and shall be called the Son of the Highest: and the Lord God shall give unto him the throne of his father David:] As for the rest of the passage, it was David who said, [Psalms 110:1-2  A Psalm of David. The LORD said unto my Lord, Sit thou at my right hand, until I make thine enemies thy footstool.  2  The LORD shall send the rod of thy strength out of Zion: rule thou in the midst of thine enemies.]

Until all of Christ’s enemies are conquered under Him, His people will have enemies as well, but just as Jesus will conquer them all eventually so will we, this includes the liars, the wicked, the deceivers, the world, the devil, the Antichrist, and all the powers of darkness are conquered, and last enemy death itself, [Revelation 21:6-8  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.  7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.  8  But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.]

It may seem like a lifetime of heartache is required to be a part of God’s family, but there are blessings of peace, protection, prosperity, and provisions that balance things out in between to give us that wonderful hope of everlasting life with our Saviour. Now, without Christ there is no hope and even death would not ease their pain as there will only be more torment in hell. Ignoring the truth, accepting the lies, and even being ignorant to the truth saves no one. As we return to the reading of 2 Samuel, it also gives the account of David attempting to bring the Ark of the covenant to Jerusalem and how Uzzah lost his life because he was unaware of the Law.

[2 Samuel 6:1-3,6-7  Again, David gathered together all the chosen men of Israel, thirty thousand.  2  And David arose, and went with all the people that were with him from Baale of Judah, to bring up from thence the ark of God, whose name is called by the name of the LORD of hosts that dwelleth between the cherubims.  3  And they set the ark of God upon a new cart, and brought it out of the house of Abinadab that was in Gibeah: and Uzzah and Ahio, the sons of Abinadab, drave the new cart. 6  And when they came to Nachon’s threshingfloor, Uzzah put forth his hand to the ark of God, and took hold of it; for the oxen shook it.  7  And the anger of the LORD was kindled against Uzzah; and God smote him there for his error; and there he died by the ark of God.]

[God smote him there for his error;] We learned earlier that only a Levite could touch the Ark, but Uzzah, lost his life over more than that, it also had to do with it being placed on a new cart and it was to be carried upon their shoulders, not rolled on a cart, [Numbers 4:4,15  This shall be the service of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation, about the most holy things: 15  And when Aaron and his sons have made an end of covering the sanctuary, and all the vessels of the sanctuary, as the camp is to set forward; after that, the sons of Kohath shall come to bear it: but they shall not touch any holy thing, lest they die. These things are the burden of the sons of Kohath in the tabernacle of the congregation.]

The Ark had been in the house of Abinadab seventy years, since the time that the Philistines had returned it after taking it when they were in a heated battle with Israel just before Samuel became the last judge, [1 Samuel 6:20-21  And the men of Bethshemesh said, Who is able to stand before this holy LORD God? and to whom shall he go up from us?  21  And they sent messengers to the inhabitants of Kirjathjearim, saying, The Philistines have brought again the ark of the LORD; come ye down, and fetch it up to you. 1 Samuel 7:1  And the men of Kirjathjearim came, and fetched up the ark of the LORD, and brought it into the house of Abinadab in the hill, and sanctified Eleazar his son to keep the ark of the LORD.]

David did not know about the Law either, which brings us to question how no one knew about this, even those devout to God. Well, at this point, Saul, killed many of the priests, and had also stopped all form of worship after Samuel died and he let his ego get the best of him. You can say that David is what we call a babe in Christ, he trusted in the LORD as his Saviour, and followed what he learned. Since David did not know what to do, he had the Ark carried inside of one of the Levites homes.

[2 Samuel 6:8-12  And David was displeased, because the LORD had made a breach upon Uzzah: and he called the name of the place Perezuzzah to this day.  9  And David was afraid of the LORD that day, and said, How shall the ark of the LORD come to me?  10  So David would not remove the ark of the LORD unto him into the city of David: but David carried it aside into the house of Obededom the Gittite.  11  And the ark of the LORD continued in the house of Obededom the Gittite three months: and the LORD blessed Obededom, and all his household.  12  And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom, and all that pertaineth unto him, because of the ark of God. So David went and brought up the ark of God from the house of Obededom into the city of David with gladness.]

[And it was told king David, saying, The LORD hath blessed the house of Obededom,] Do the blessings of God from someone else give you the encouragement to seek them from God also? Naturally, whenever we hear of the blessings that God brings to others, it encourages us as well to keep going for God. I am not going to lie sometimes I see people being blessed while I am in pain and ask God why them and not me. Then He so kindly reminds me that I have more faith than that and if I just hang on I will receive much more than them, [Hebrews 10:35-36  Cast not away therefore your confidence, which hath great recompence of reward.  36  For ye have need of patience, that, after ye have done the will of God, ye might receive the promise.]

Think of the Ark as the Spirit of God, without Christ we cannot go near Him because we are covered in all that filth of sin. It is Christ who cleanses us with His blood through our faith in Him alone that not only enables us to stand before God and live, He also infuses us with the Holy Spirit. Once David found out that he needed a sanctified priest, and sanctified Levites to carry the Ark, that was when he attempted to bring the Ark to Jerusalem and succeeded. He danced with all his might, leading the people to the tent that he had made for the Ark. Someone was watching him, Micah, Saul’s daughter, she once loved David so much that she helped him escape from her father, but now she despised him in her heart.

[2 Samuel 6:15-18  So David and all the house of Israel brought up the ark of the LORD with shouting, and with the sound of the trumpet.  16  And as the ark of the LORD came into the city of David, Michal Saul’s daughter looked through a window, and saw king David leaping and dancing before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart.  17  And they brought in the ark of the LORD, and set it in his place, in the midst of the tabernacle that David had pitched for it: and David offered burnt offerings and peace offerings before the LORD.  18  And as soon as David had made an end of offering burnt offerings and peace offerings, he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.]

[he blessed the people in the name of the LORD of hosts.] David, did not bless the people as a priest would, and he did not bless them as being the king, but as a humble servant of God, wishing them all happiness and prosperity, praying for God to bless them. The best example that Jesus gave the disciples of being a humble servant was when He washed their feet, [John 13:12-16  So after he had washed their feet, and had taken his garments, and was set down again, he said unto them, Know ye what I have done to you?  13  Ye call me Master and Lord: and ye say well; for so I am.  14  If I then, your Lord and Master, have washed your feet; ye also ought to wash one another’s feet.  15  For I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. 16  Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.]

Did you know that churches actually have ceremonies of the pastor washing the feet of their ministers? While Jesus, did not intend for leaders to be washing the feet of their ministers, but He does expect them to treat everyone the same and this was David’s intention here. Now, after David had blessed the people he returned home to bless his own house, but when Michal saw him she ran out to meet him and it was not a joyful greeting.

[2 Samuel 6:20-23  Then David returned to bless his household. And Michal the daughter of Saul came out to meet David, and said, How glorious was the king of Israel to day, who uncovered himself to day in the eyes of the handmaids of his servants, as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!  21  And David said unto Michal, It was before the LORD, which chose me before thy father, and before all his house, to appoint me ruler over the people of the LORD, over Israel: therefore will I play before the LORD.  22  And I will yet be more vile than thus, and will be base in mine own sight: and of the maidservants which thou hast spoken of, of them shall I be had in honour.  23  Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no child unto the day of her death.]

[as one of the vain fellows shamelessly uncovereth himself!] She accused him of forgetting his royal dignity and acting like some fool dancing in the streets. Saul, had been rejected by God on account of his pride, and here the same ugly trait showed in his daughter. One of the severest punishments known in the Old Testament is for a woman to never have a child. While David was by far a perfect man, he did have one thing going for him, he had the favor of God, he did not always consult God, he got discouraged sometimes, and he did sin, as we all do, but he loved God with all his might, and never forgot His mercies, [Psalms 106:43-45  Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.  44  Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:  45  And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.]

Finally, David had a time of rest, there were no wars, his enemies were at bay, the Ark was in Jerusalem, and worship had been restored. Something was bothering David, he did not like that the Ark was enclosed in a tent, he was good friends with Nathan the prophet, and mentioned this to him.

[2 Samuel 7:1-5  And it came to pass, when the king sat in his house, and the LORD had given him rest round about from all his enemies;  2  That the king said unto Nathan the prophet, See now, I dwell in an house of cedar, but the ark of God dwelleth within curtains.  3  And Nathan said to the king, Go, do all that is in thine heart; for the LORD is with thee.  4  And it came to pass that night, that the word of the LORD came unto Nathan, saying,  5  Go and tell my servant David, Thus saith the LORD, Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?]

[Shalt thou build me an house for me to dwell in?] This is God, and He is literally saying something like this to David, “You want to build a house for me? One that is permanent and unmovable, unlike the tent that cannot contain me either?” Well, God did have plans for a house for Himself, but it was not a physical building.

[2 Samuel 7:8-11  Now therefore so shalt thou say unto my servant David, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, I took thee from the sheepcote, from following the sheep, to be ruler over my people, over Israel:  9  And I was with thee whithersoever thou wentest, and have cut off all thine enemies out of thy sight, and have made thee a great name, like unto the name of the great men that are in the earth.  10  Moreover I will appoint a place for my people Israel, and will plant them, that they may dwell in a place of their own, and move no more; neither shall the children of wickedness afflict them any more, as beforetime,  11  And as since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel, and have caused thee to rest from all thine enemies. Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.]

[Also the LORD telleth thee that he will make thee an house.] Talk about a turn of events, God, is not only telling David that He does not want him to build a temple for Him, but that He was actually going to build him a house. What kind of house? A kingdom actually. God, goes on to tell him that He will have a son of whom He will establish His kingdom from.

[2 Samuel 7:12-16  And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom.  13  He shall build an house for my name, and I will stablish the throne of his kingdom for ever.  14  I will be his father, and he shall be my son. If he commit iniquity, I will chasten him with the rod of men, and with the stripes of the children of men:  15  But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul, whom I put away before thee.  16  And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.]

[But my mercy shall not depart away from him, as I took it from Saul,] Why did God have mercy on David and not Saul? Unlike David turned to God when he was afflicted Saul created more affliction when he tried to worship God on his own terms then turned away from Him all together. There is only one way to worship God and that is through Christ, [Matthew 11:27  All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.]

While some of this is in reference to Solomon, who would build the first temple, most of this has to do with Christ, who would come in the flesh through David’s seed, and establish His throne in the Kingdom of God forever. Well, after hearing all that news, David was quite humble, in fact, he did the same thing the rest of us do who have no idea why God continues to use them, he asked God what He was thinking.

[2 Samuel 7:18-22  Then went king David in, and sat before the LORD, and he said, Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house, that thou hast brought me hitherto?  19  And this was yet a small thing in thy sight, O Lord GOD; but thou hast spoken also of thy servant’s house for a great while to come. And is this the manner of man, O Lord GOD?  20  And what can David say more unto thee? for thou, Lord GOD, knowest thy servant.  21  For thy word’s sake, and according to thine own heart, hast thou done all these great things, to make thy servant know them.  22  Wherefore thou art great, O LORD God: for there is none like thee, neither is there any God beside thee, according to all that we have heard with our ears.]

[Who am I, O Lord GOD? and what is my house,] This is why God does what He does in our lives, even if we have failed Him a time or two, for His Word’s sake and according to His own heart. We can mess up a thousand times a day, but as long as our heart is true and right with God, then He will forgive us when we confess our sins and continue to use us, [1 John 1:9-10  If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.  10  If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.]

It is by far a rare occurrence that God reveals His plans to man as He has nothing to say to them, but He does have something to say to those who truly believe in Him. It is not for us to question God’s reason, we just smile, humble ourselves, and say, “Thy will be done.” just as David says upon God revealing this incredible news.

[2 Samuel 7:25-29  And now, O LORD God, the word that thou hast spoken concerning thy servant, and concerning his house, establish it for ever, and do as thou hast said.  26  And let thy name be magnified for ever, saying, The LORD of hosts is the God over Israel: and let the house of thy servant David be established before thee.  27  For thou, O LORD of hosts, God of Israel, hast revealed to thy servant, saying, I will build thee an house: therefore hath thy servant found in his heart to pray this prayer unto thee.  28  And now, O Lord GOD, thou art that God, and thy words be true, and thou hast promised this goodness unto thy servant:  29  Therefore now let it please thee to bless the house of thy servant, that it may continue for ever before thee: for thou, O Lord GOD, hast spoken it: and with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.]

[with thy blessing let the house of thy servant be blessed for ever.] It is God’s desire to live with you, and not to dictate your every move, but to guide us and give us that comfort and helping hand that we need to get through this time of our lives until He brings us home, [Philippians 2:13-16  For it is God which worketh in you both to will and to do of his good pleasure.  14  Do all things without murmurings and disputings:  15  That ye may be blameless and harmless, the sons of God, without rebuke, in the midst of a crooked and perverse nation, among whom ye shine as lights in the world;  16  Holding forth the word of life; that I may rejoice in the day of Christ, that I have not run in vain, neither laboured in vain.]

It is not for us to question God’s reason for anything that He does, we just smile, humble ourselves, and say, “Thy will be done.” David wrote this Psalm as a reminder of this news.

[Psalms 132:1-7  A Song of degrees. LORD, remember David, and all his afflictions:  2  How he sware unto the LORD, and vowed unto the mighty God of Jacob;  3  Surely I will not come into the tabernacle of my house, nor go up into my bed;  4  I will not give sleep to mine eyes, or slumber to mine eyelids,  5  Until I find out a place for the LORD, an habitation for the mighty God of Jacob.  6  Lo, we heard of it at Ephratah: we found it in the fields of the wood.  7  We will go into his tabernacles: we will worship at his footstool.]

[we will worship at his footstool.] There is that phrase again, but are you aware that just as Jesus conquered death so will every one who receives Him as their Saviour.

[Psalms 132:11-18  The LORD hath sworn in truth unto David; he will not turn from it; Of the fruit of thy body will I set upon thy throne.  12  If thy children will keep my covenant and my testimony that I shall teach them, their children shall also sit upon thy throne for evermore.  13  For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.  14  This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.  15  I will abundantly bless her provision: I will satisfy her poor with bread.  16  I will also clothe her priests with salvation: and her saints shall shout aloud for joy.  17  There will I make the horn of David to bud: I have ordained a lamp for mine anointed.  18  His enemies will I clothe with shame: but upon himself shall his crown flourish.]

[For the LORD hath chosen Zion…This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell;] This is God’s Word and promise to all who believe in and receive His Son. We are more than conquerors, we are children of the living God, [Romans 8:36-39  As it is written, For thy sake we are killed all the day long; we are accounted as sheep for the slaughter.  37  Nay, in all these things we are more than conquerors through him that loved us.  38  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.]

Jesus Christ Revealed/Magnified: [Psalms 132:13-14  For the LORD hath chosen Zion; he hath desired it for his habitation.  14  This is my rest for ever: here will I dwell; for I have desired it.]

Today’s Prayer: God, On any given day we should be able to stop, look at the life we have now and see how far we have come since we came to know Your Son as our Saviour. Thank You for Your mercies and grace, You love me unconditionally, no matter how many times I mess up. It is not so easy to see the blessings if we are facing affliction, but with a little prayer, studying of Your Word, and applying it to our lives we will be more than conquerors. Lord, Lead me and guide me, help me to see beyond my circumstances, to remember that Your grace is sufficient, and to keep looking onto You, who will see me through and bless me for enduring them all by my faith and trust in You, who will supply all my needs. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
