Message: Where Sin Abounded, Grace Did Much More

Hello My Friend,

Abound; To have or possess in great quantity. If we are truly honest with ourselves we have to admit that sin comes naturally for us, which is why our own righteousness cannot save us. I sinned as soon as I got out of bed this morning in that I did give God first priority. We have much sin, many times it is unintentional, but as long as we have this flesh, it possesses us in great quantity. Thankfully, we who are saved by the blood of Christ have something that supersedes that, grace. While we possess a great quantity of sin, the grace of God abounds much more. Amen! “Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come. But not as the offence, so also is the free gift. For if through the offence of one many be dead, much more the grace of God, and the gift by grace, which is by one man, Jesus Christ, hath abounded unto many. And not as it was by one that sinned, so is the gift: for the judgment was by one to condemnation, but the free gift is of many offences unto justification. For if by one man’s offence death reigned by one; much more they which receive abundance of grace and of the gift of righteousness shall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.” – Romans 5:14-17.

so also is the free gift.” Grace by faith. The only way we get God’s grace is through our faith in Jesus Christ, rather, in what He did for us. What did He do for us? He died for us. “But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him. For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life. And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement. Wherefore, as by one man sin entered into the world, and death by sin; and so death passed upon all men, for that all have sinned: Therefore as by the offence of one judgment came upon all men to condemnation; even so by the righteousness of one the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life. Moreover the law entered, that the offence might abound. But where sin abounded, grace did much more abound: That as sin hath reigned unto death, even so might grace reign through righteousness unto eternal life by Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 5:8-12,18,20-21.

the free gift came upon all men unto justification of life.” Justification; The remission of sin, and absolution from guilt and punishment. An act of free grace by which God pardons the sinner, and accepts him as righteous, on account of the atonement of Christ. The free gift of salvation or eternal life means that our faith in Jesus Christ alone is the remission of sin, which means forgiveness, and He is also our atonement, which means to be reconciled with God. You see, while sin abounded in that it made us enemies with God, grace abounds much more in that God, through our faith in Christ, not only forgives us for our sin, He reconciles with us. Does our free gift mean that we should remain in sin, knowing that we are justified? Of course not. While sin abounded in us, grace did so much more in that we are not dead to sin. Paul explains this further.

What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound? God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein? Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death? Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life. Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord. Let not sin therefore reign in your mortal body, that ye should obey it in the lusts thereof. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:1-4,11-12,21-23.

What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed?” While sin abounded in that we were often ignorant to sin, grace abounds much more in that it shows us what those sins are. And since Christ now lives in us we no longer want to do those things, or we ought not to want to do them anymore. If we continue in the sin, and this is knowingly living in sin we are servants of sin, and therefore, we become bound to the law.

Know ye not, brethren, (for I speak to them that know the law,) how that the law hath dominion over a man as long as he liveth? For the woman which hath an husband is bound by the law to her husband so long as he liveth; but if the husband be dead, she is loosed from the law of her husband. So then if, while her husband liveth, she be married to another man, she shall be called an adulteress: but if her husband be dead, she is free from that law; so that she is no adulteress, though she be married to another man. Wherefore, my brethren, ye also are become dead to the law by the body of Christ; that ye should be married to another, even to him who is raised from the dead, that we should bring forth fruit unto God. For when we were in the flesh, the motions of sins, which were by the law, did work in our members to bring forth fruit unto death. But now we are delivered from the law, that being dead wherein we were held; that we should serve in newness of spirit, and not in the oldness of the letter.” – Romans 7:1-6.

that ye should be married to another,” In this odd illustration, except for adultery (Matthew 19:9), if a woman marries a man she is bound to the marriage unto death (Numbers 30:7-8), if her husband, and this applies to the man as well, she is no longer bound to the marriage and able to marry someone else. The same applies to our receiving Christ as our Saviour. Sin abounded in that we were bound to the Law of death and hell, grace abounds so much more in that our faith in Christ sets us free. Amen! When we receive Christ as our Saviour, we join in a marriage with Him, and are no longer bound to the Law, but Paul explains why remaining in sin keeps us servants of sin, and puts us back under the Law.

For I was alive without the law once: but when the commandment came, sin revived, and I died. And the commandment, which was ordained to life, I found to be unto death. For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me, and by it slew me. For we know that the law is spiritual: but I am carnal, sold under sin. For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” – Romans 7:9-11,14-19,24-25.

For sin, taking occasion by the commandment, deceived me,” Sin always deceives us in that we talk ourselves in believing that no consequence will come out of it. One of the biggest and most deceitful excuses given as to why people knowingly commit sin is to say that the devil made them do it. Yes, our flesh is weak in that we do have this sin nature that loves sin more than we care to admit, but we cannot blame the devil for everything, he is the influencer, we are the ones who execute. And while we know to do good, that does not always happen because we often do walk in our flesh more than we care to admit. That is where the Holy Spirit comes in, He keeps us in check, so when temptation does come, He will give us the means to resist. And that is why we are not justified by our own righteousness.

For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh: That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. For they that are after the flesh do mind the things of the flesh; but they that are after the Spirit the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death; but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God: for it is not subject to the law of God, neither indeed can be. So then they that are in the flesh cannot please God. But ye are not in the flesh, but in the Spirit, if so be that the Spirit of God dwell in you. Now if any man have not the Spirit of Christ, he is none of his. And if Christ be in you, the body is dead because of sin; but the Spirit is life because of righteousness.” – Romans 8:3-10.

the body is dead because of sin;” Think about it, saved or not, living in sin literally kills the body. Those who are living in sin without one hint of repentance are going to learn that it will be the death of them if they do not get their act together. While sin abounded in that through the weakness of our flesh we knowingly fall into temptation, grace abounds so much more in that through our faith we can escape it through our faithfulness. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” – I Corinthians 10:13.

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for Your grace, there is no greater joy that comes from knowing that by grace we are saved and not of our own works. I am so glad for that because I know I mess up every day, and yet, by Your grace I remain saved. I am justified, pardoned of every sin I ever committed and will commit as long as I live in this flesh, I am more than justified, I am reconciled with You, Amen! I have great joy in knowing where I am going, and I have great joy in knowing what You have done for me over the years, I know I never want to be where I was before I dedicated my life to You, but trials and tribulations want to strip me of that joy. Lord, walk with me, talk with me, get my spirit right with You so that I connect with you and resist all temptation. Fill me with Your mercies and grace, Your power and might, Your wisdom and instruction, let me never lose sight of the joy that comes from knowing You as my Saviour. In the name of Jesus, I pray, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
