Message: True Repentance

Hello My Friend,

I happened to have a package of meat sitting in a bucket of cold water so it would thaw quicker when I noticed something, the package was not wrapped tightly, the water got into the package as the meat thawed, mixed with the blood and the meat was turning white. When I saw that I immediately thought about Jesus and what His blood does to our body when we accept Him as Saviour, it cleans us up, and makes us white. Then another thing came to mind, the living water, the blood of Christ, and the Spirit of God that is inside every believer.

[I John 5:6-11  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.  7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.  8  And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.  9  If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.  10  He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.  11  And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.]

[because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.] Do you see how this is worded? [God gave of his Son.] The word [of] means; From; Proceeding from; As the cause; Source; Means; Author or agent. In other words, God gave from Himself, God gave proceeding from Himself, God gave as the cause Himself. God is the witness here, that He gave us eternal life through the source, the means, the author or agent, who is His Son. So, for someone to deny this, yet believe Him about other events, is an insult to God. It does not matter if you believe that He sent the flood, of you do not believe He sent His Son, God would not accept you because you called Him a liar. This is an instance of where God gives mercy to those He chooses, God has always been that way, and He changes for no one. God told David before he even thought about committing adultery that He was going to use his son to establish His Kingdom through one son. And it all began with an unfortunate event.

[II Samuel 11:1-5  And it came to pass, after the year was expired, at the time when kings go forth to battle, that David sent Joab, and his servants with him, and all Israel; and they destroyed the children of Ammon, and besieged Rabbah. But David tarried still at Jerusalem.  2  And it came to pass in an eveningtide, that David arose from off his bed, and walked upon the roof of the king’s house: and from the roof he saw a woman washing herself; and the woman was very beautiful to look upon.  3  And David sent and enquired after the woman. And one said, Is not this Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?  4  And David sent messengers, and took her; and she came in unto him, and he lay with her; for she was purified from her uncleanness: and she returned unto her house.  5  And the woman conceived, and sent and told David, and said, I am with child.]

[for she was purified from her uncleanness:] Think about it, David had some time to think about this, and so did Bathsheba, sin never happens by impulse, it is always something that was thought out for quite some time. And if they did not make matters worse by her getting pregnant, David did whatever he could to cover it up without it being found out that they both committed adultery. He encouraged Uriah to go home to his wife, when that did not work, he commanded that he be placed in the most heated part of the battle, and he died there.

[II Samuel 11:15,17,26-27   And he wrote in the letter, saying, Set ye Uriah in the forefront of the hottest battle, and retire ye from him, that he may be smitten, and die.  17  And the men of the city went out, and fought with Joab: and there fell some of the people of the servants of David; and Uriah the Hittite died also. 26 And when the wife of Uriah heard that Uriah her husband was dead, she mourned for her husband.  27  And when the mourning was past, David sent and fetched her to his house, and she became his wife, and bare him a son. But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.]

[But the thing that David had done displeased the LORD.] God was so disappointed in David that He did not even speak to him Himself, He sent the prophet, Nathan. Some people say that God will not send other people to confront them about their sin, that He will speak to them directly through the Holy Spirit. This is proof that while it is the Holy Spirit that talks to us before the matter, He will send people to confront us about it if there is no repentance, [Matthew 18:15-17]. Most people when confronted about their sin get very defensive, usually their first words are in the line of not judging them, when Nathan went to David, he confessed that he sinned.

[II Samuel 12:9-14  Wherefore hast thou despised the commandment of the LORD, to do evil in his sight? thou hast killed Uriah the Hittite with the sword, and hast taken his wife to be thy wife, and hast slain him with the sword of the children of Ammon.  10  Now therefore the sword shall never depart from thine house; because thou hast despised me, and hast taken the wife of Uriah the Hittite to be thy wife.  11  Thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will raise up evil against thee out of thine own house, and I will take thy wives before thine eyes, and give them unto thy neighbour, and he shall lie with thy wives in the sight of this sun.  12  For thou didst it secretly: but I will do this thing before all Israel, and before the sun.  13  And David said unto Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said unto David, The LORD also hath put away thy sin; thou shalt not die.  14  Howbeit, because by this deed thou hast given great occasion to the enemies of the LORD to blaspheme, the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.]

[The LORD also hath put away thy sin;] God does not hold grudges, He does get disappointed with us, but He is faithful and just to forgive us of our sin when we confess it, [1 John 1:9-10]. [the child also that is born unto thee shall surely die.] Why did the child have to die? God has a reason for every thing, perhaps this was David and Bathsheba’s chastening for their sin. Perhaps he would have had a rough life since he was a child born in adultery. Nevertheless, David, repented and cried out to God about the situation, Psalm 51 is David’s prayer to God. [Psalms 51:14-19  14  Deliver me from bloodguiltiness, O God, thou God of my salvation: and my tongue shall sing aloud of thy righteousness.  15  O Lord, open thou my lips; and my mouth shall shew forth thy praise.  16  For thou desirest not sacrifice; else would I give it: thou delightest not in burnt offering.  17  The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit: a broken and a contrite heart, O God, thou wilt not despise.  18  Do good in thy good pleasure unto Zion: build thou the walls of Jerusalem.  19  Then shalt thou be pleased with the sacrifices of righteousness, with burnt offering and whole burnt offering: then shall they offer bullocks upon thine altar.]

[For thou desirest not sacrifice;] We are all sinners, no matter how much we try to keep ourselves from sin, it just comes naturally to us. Since the first sin committed, although Jesus gave His life as a sacrifice to save us, salvation has never been about a sacrifice, it has always been about admitting that we sinned, and confessing it to God. Think about it, when Adam and Eve sinned, what angered Him more, the sin or the fact that they hid it and blamed someone else as to why they committed it? Confession is the key, and then God will accept the sacrifice. David knew that his son was going to die, still he had hope that God has mercy on him.

[II Samuel 12:16,18-21  David therefore besought God for the child; and David fasted, and went in, and lay all night upon the earth.  18  And it came to pass on the seventh day, that the child died. And the servants of David feared to tell him that the child was dead: for they said, Behold, while the child was yet alive, we spake unto him, and he would not hearken unto our voice: how will he then vex himself, if we tell him that the child is dead?  19  But when David saw that his servants whispered, David perceived that the child was dead: therefore David said unto his servants, Is the child dead? And they said, He is dead.  20  Then David arose from the earth, and washed, and anointed himself, and changed his apparel, and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped: then he came to his own house; and when he required, they set bread before him, and he did eat.  21  Then said his servants unto him, What thing is this that thou hast done? thou didst fast and weep for the child, while it was alive; but when the child was dead, thou didst rise and eat bread.]

[and came into the house of the LORD, and worshipped:] One thing is for sure, we truly are not saved by our own righteousness, even before Jesus came here in the flesh, it was only by grace that we are saved. The people did what a lot of people do when someone dies before their time, especially a child, wondered how he could move on after his death. Death does something to us, it brings repentance, salvation, confession, reconciliation, and hope. What was their hope? David knew that his hope lied in the promises of God.

[II Samuel 12:22-25  And he said, While the child was yet alive, I fasted and wept: for I said, Who can tell whether GOD will be gracious to me, that the child may live?  23  But now he is dead, wherefore should I fast? can I bring him back again? I shall go to him, but he shall not return to me.  24  And David comforted Bathsheba his wife, and went in unto her, and lay with her: and she bare a son, and he called his name Solomon: and the LORD loved him.  25  And he sent by the hand of Nathan the prophet; and he called his name Jedidiah, because of the LORD.]

[and he called his name Jedidiah,] Jedidiah is also Solomon, he had several names that he went by, his name means; Beloved of God. Do you see how God loved Solomon, after all that happened? God does not hold grudges, both David and Bathsheba were forgiven and they had two more sons together as well, [I Chronicles 3:5  And these were born unto him in Jerusalem; Shimea, and Shobab, and Nathan, and Solomon, four, of Bathshua the daughter of Ammiel:]

If there is anything to learn about this whole mess with David and Bathsheba it is this, one, God truly is merciful to His faithful. And two, God knows everything, it is best to confess sin before things get out of hand. Sin of any kind spreads like a wildfire, if it is not contained, and stopped. Since we have this sin nature, and do not always keep our eyes on Jesus, things are bound to happen, so, what do we do? Confess, and repent. Repentance is the key here, [II Corinthians 7:9-11  Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing.  10  For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.  11  For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Your mercy endures forever, no matter what we have done when we confess our sin to You You are always faithful and just to forgive us and cleanse us of our unrighteousness. Everything You place before us is meant to teach, correct, and guide us out of walking in the flesh, and into Your Spirit. Lord, Lead us and guide us, have mercy and grace upon us, give us peace and comfort through our trials as well as any grievances we face, and as we look to You for help and guidance in every matter of our lives, lead us not into temptation, and keep us faithful to You in confession and repentance. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
