Message: The Cup
Hello My Friend,
When we come to Christ and ask Him to save us, we are literally offering Him up to God as a sacrifice. It is important that we one, truly believe in the Gospel, and two, are accepting that His sacrifice alone is what saves us. If there is any doubt whatsoever that Christ, who was born of a virgin, died a sinless death, was buried, and arose three days later, then God will not accept the sacrifice. If God does not accept our sacrifice, if we have received Christ in vain, then we will die in our sin, [Luke 22:17-20 And he took the cup, and gave thanks, and said, Take this, and divide it among yourselves: 18 For I say unto you, I will not drink of the fruit of the vine, until the kingdom of God shall come. 19 And he took bread, and gave thanks, and brake it, and gave unto them, saying, This is my body which is given for you: this do in remembrance of me. 20 Likewise also the cup after supper, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood, which is shed for you.]
We have to understand that this is not something new, a sin offering has always been required to make an atonement for sin. What is new is that Christ made atonement sustainable and permanent, which could only have happened by Him being born of a virgin. When God instituted the sacrificial law concerning atonement, there was an order that had to be taken, and we truly need to be thankful that we only need one sacrifice today. The entire ceremony had to be followed exactly as God commanded, starting with the consecration of the priests. Remember, just putting on the garments for their priestly duties did not make an atonement for their sins, if they approached God for any reason without being consecrated, they too would die instantly. Watch as Moses prepares Aaron and his sons to be able to accept the sacrifices offered by the congregation.
[Leviticus 8:2-3,5-10 Take Aaron and his sons with him, and the garments, and the anointing oil, and a bullock for the sin offering, and two rams, and a basket of unleavened bread; 3 And gather thou all the congregation together unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 5 And Moses said unto the congregation, This is the thing which the LORD commanded to be done. 6 And Moses brought Aaron and his sons, and washed them with water. 7 And he put upon him the coat, and girded him with the girdle, and clothed him with the robe, and put the ephod upon him, and he girded him with the curious girdle of the ephod, and bound it unto him therewith. 8 And he put the breastplate upon him: also he put in the breastplate the Urim and the Thummim. 9 And he put the mitre upon his head; also upon the mitre, even upon his forefront, did he put the golden plate, the holy crown; as the LORD commanded Moses. 10 And Moses took the anointing oil, and anointed the tabernacle and all that was therein, and sanctified them.]
[This is the thing which the LORD commanded to be done.] It is by the command of God that we come to Him through Christ. It is Jesus who prepares us to be able to stand before God and live, He is our intercessor. When we come to Christ, He is the one who clothes us with the garments necessary to serve Him, [Hebrews 7:24-25 But this man, because he continueth ever, hath an unchangeable priesthood. 25 Wherefore he is able also to save them to the uttermost that come unto God by him, seeing he ever liveth to make intercession for them.]
After Moses dressed them, the offerings were brought, remember, they needed three animals, the sin offering, the burnt offering, and the consecration offering. [Leviticus 8:14-15,18-19,22-23 And he brought the bullock for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin offering. 15 And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it. 18 And he brought the ram for the burnt offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram. 19 And he killed it; and Moses sprinkled the blood upon the altar round about. 22 And he brought the other ram, the ram of consecration: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the ram. 23 And he slew it; and Moses took of the blood of it, and put it upon the tip of Aaron’s right ear, and upon the thumb of his right hand, and upon the great toe of his right foot.]
[and put it upon the tip of Aaron’s right ear,] God had specific reasons for why He commanded that they take some of the blood and place it on their right ear, right thumb, and right toe. The right signifies exactly what it sounds like, being right, or correct. The right actually means just; equitable; accordant to the standard of truth and justice or the will of God. The blood on their right ear signified that their ears were cleansed from the impure thoughts that came through their ears. The blood on the right thumb signified that their hands were cleansed of whatever they touched that was impure. The right toe signified that they were cleansed of anything impure that they walked into. Remember, when Jesus washed the disciples feet only? We are cleansed by the blood of Christ, through our faith alone in Him, but it is necessary that we come to Him daily for the washing of our feet, [John 13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.]
Anyone can say that they have received Christ as their Saviour, but that does not mean they have. Again, when we come to Christ we must believe in all that He is, that includes believing that we only need to ask Him one time to save us. Yes, we need to wash our feet, meaning come to Him daily with confession and repentance, but once we ask Him salvation is forever. If we are believing anything, but that, then we are not saved. Now, in addition to the animal sacrifices offered, they needed to offer a bread offering.
[Leviticus 8:26-30 And out of the basket of unleavened bread, that was before the LORD, he took one unleavened cake, and a cake of oiled bread, and one wafer, and put them on the fat, and upon the right shoulder: 27 And he put all upon Aaron’s hands, and upon his sons’ hands, and waved them for a wave offering before the LORD. 28 And Moses took them from off their hands, and burnt them on the altar upon the burnt offering: they were consecrations for a sweet savour: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD. 29 And Moses took the breast, and waved it for a wave offering before the LORD: for of the ram of consecration it was Moses’ part; as the LORD commanded Moses. 30 And Moses took of the anointing oil, and of the blood which was upon the altar, and sprinkled it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon his sons’ garments with him; and sanctified Aaron, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him.]
[for of the ram of consecration it was Moses’ part;] The meat, meaning the flesh of the animal and the bread, for the consecration offering was given to Moses to eat. Since he was the intercessor, he took the responsibility for that persons life. Do you see the pattern here and why Jesus is enough to settle our differences with God once and for all? The second we ask Jesus to save us, we are offering Him up to God in place of our own life. By accepting His sacrifice, God accepts us, we then partake of His flesh, and now Jesus is responsible for our soul. He is also the bread that gives life to and sustains our soul, [Hebrews 10:10-12 By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all. 11 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;]
The consecration of Aaron and his sons was done so they could minster unto God, but they still were not able to minister to Him right away, they had to remain in the tabernacle for eight days, separated from the outside. Now, the eight days have come and they were able to accept the sacrifices, [Leviticus 9:1-4 And it came to pass on the eighth day, that Moses called Aaron and his sons, and the elders of Israel; 2 And he said unto Aaron, Take thee a young calf for a sin offering, and a ram for a burnt offering, without blemish, and offer them before the LORD. 3 And unto the children of Israel thou shalt speak, saying, Take ye a kid of the goats for a sin offering; and a calf and a lamb, both of the first year, without blemish, for a burnt offering; 4 Also a bullock and a ram for peace offerings, to sacrifice before the LORD; and a meat offering mingled with oil: for to day the LORD will appear unto you.]
[for to day the LORD will appear unto you.] God will not appear to us until we have accepted Christ as our Saviour. Without God we cannot come before God and live to tell about it, [Matthew 11:27 All things are delivered unto me of my Father: and no man knoweth the Son, but the Father; neither knoweth any man the Father, save the Son, and he to whomsoever the Son will reveal him.]
[for to day the LORD will appear unto you.] My goodness, I can describe the day that Jesus appeared to me down to the white robe He was wearing. Well, that is what I saw anyway, I certainly knew He spoke to me, and it was time to make a change in my life. We may not see Him face to face, but we will definitely feel His presence, that is as long as we are faithful to Him. There truly is no better feeling than to feel the presence of God with you. And those who think that God does not talk to you or appear as He did with Moses, need to rethink their faith because He is the same yesterday, today, and forever. Again, just because one says they believe in Christ that does not mean they are saved, any alteration will not be accepted by God. Now, when God gave the command that Aaron and his sons would be priests, He gave them a stern warning about offering strange fire. Well, two of Aaron’s sons did not heed that warning and died instantly.
[Leviticus 10:1-3,6-7 And Nadab and Abihu, the sons of Aaron, took either of them his censer, and put fire therein, and put incense thereon, and offered strange fire before the LORD, which he commanded them not. 2 And there went out fire from the LORD, and devoured them, and they died before the LORD. 3 Then Moses said unto Aaron, This is it that the LORD spake, saying, I will be sanctified in them that come nigh me, and before all the people I will be glorified. And Aaron held his peace. 6 And Moses said unto Aaron, and unto Eleazar and unto Ithamar, his sons, Uncover not your heads, neither rend your clothes; lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people: but let your brethren, the whole house of Israel, bewail the burning which the LORD hath kindled. 7 And ye shall not go out from the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, lest ye die: for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you. And they did according to the word of Moses.]
[lest ye die, and lest wrath come upon all the people:] Remember, when Moses partook of the offering his became responsible for Aaron and his sons wellbeing. Likewise, when Arron would partake of offerings of the people he would be responsible for their wellbeing. When we receive Christ as our Saviour, we partake of His flesh, He becomes responsible for our wellbeing, [John 10:28-30 And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand. 29 My Father, which gave them me, is greater than all; and no man is able to pluck them out of my Father’s hand. 30 I and my Father are one.]
[for the anointing oil of the LORD is upon you.] See the pattern? While each and every one of us must come to Christ willingly and accept His sacrifice, we are responsible for making sure that the Gospel presented is true. Any religion that promotes a false gospel is responsible for the people they send to hell with their false doctrine, and they too will die for leading the people in the astray. Ignorance does not save us, even if we have believed the false gospel. At some point, the truth is always made known to us, we must make sure that we are trusting fully that our faith in the Gospel of Christ is the only way to be saved, and that we only need to ask Him once. Anyone who believes anything else, or is trusting their religion will not be saved, [I Corinthians 11:27-29 Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord. 28 But let a man examine himself, and so let him eat of that bread, and drink of that cup. 29 For he that eateth and drinketh unworthily, eateth and drinketh damnation to himself, not discerning the Lord’s body.]
Jesus Christ Magnified: [Leviticus 8:14-15 And he brought the bullock for the sin offering: and Aaron and his sons laid their hands upon the head of the bullock for the sin offering. 15 And he slew it; and Moses took the blood, and put it upon the horns of the altar round about with his finger, and purified the altar, and poured the blood at the bottom of the altar, and sanctified it, to make reconciliation upon it.]
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, Thank You, for making salvation possible and permanent by becoming the sinless sacrifice needed to not only reconcile with God, but be one with Him as well. Through my faith alone in Your immaculate birth, sinless death, burial, and resurrection, I am forever saved from hell, my soul is in Your hands, and nothing and no one can change that. Now, that You have saved me and given me the responsibility of teaching the Gospel, You will me accountable to make sure that the truth is told. Lord, this is the cup that You have given me, and this is the cup that I must bear, lead me and guide me, keep me in the truth, give me Your mercy, grace, wisdom, and guidance to stay in it and never alter Your Gospel in any way. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
