Study: Take a Step Back

Hello My Friend,

I am ashamed to admit this, but these past few months, I have been playing catch up with God’s work. No matter how early I get up in the morning, or if I even managed to get a little bit ahead on a Saturday, I am right back where I started on Monday. Most of it is work related as it takes me forty minutes to drive to work. If I did have those forty minutes, I would actually be done on time. Thankfully, I get my new schedule that starts next Monday so, I do not have to be to work so early. Well, God reminded me of two things, one; I need to get back to praying for everyone first thing in the morning, and two; He put me where I am for a reason.

[Luke 16:9-11  And I say unto you, Make to yourselves friends of the mammon of unrighteousness; that, when ye fail, they may receive you into everlasting habitations.  10  He that is faithful in that which is least is faithful also in much: and he that is unjust in the least is unjust also in much.  11  If therefore ye have not been faithful in the unrighteous mammon, who will commit to your trust the true riches?]

Every element of this job that God has blessed me with is far beyond anything that I would have considered and to think that he still trusts me, even though I fail Him so much, is even more astounding. If I continue where I am with my job, with some discipline, much more studies, and under the direction from God, I could be well on my way to making a six figure income within six years. Now, in my own mind, I am thinking that I am crazy for even thinking that as I will be almost sixty years old and to make that much money would be kind of overwhelming for me. On the other hand, there is nothing impossible when God’s hand is in it, [Matthew 7:7-8  Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:  8  For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.]

Now, as we return to the reading of Psalms, and if you are wondering why we keep going back to the Psalms in between 1 Chronicles and 2 Samuel, it is because these were written also during that time frame. Just to see how many prayers and songs that David had penned down shows us just how much faith he had in God. David thanked God for everything from his salvation to his mercy, to his prosperity in becoming king.

[Psalms 1:1-3  Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor standeth in the way of sinners, nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.  2  But his delight is in the law of the LORD; and in his law doth he meditate day and night.  3  And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.]

[and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.] The older I get and the longer I walk with Christ, the more I discover just what prospering is, and I tell you what, it has nothing to do with money. If I get up out of bed and God still sees fit to use me to serve Him, then I know I have prospered. And for the life of me, I have no idea why He continues to use me because here I am writing this message that should have been posted yesterday morning. At the same time, God is telling me that I am still doing a great work, that I have not given up, and I still get up every morning, and at least, thank Him for waking me. He reminded me of something else, I am His child, and the only way that was possible was by kissing His Son.

[Psalms 2:7-12  I will declare the decree: the LORD hath said unto me, Thou art my Son; this day have I begotten thee.  8  Ask of me, and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance, and the uttermost parts of the earth for thy possession.  9  Thou shalt break them with a rod of iron; thou shalt dash them in pieces like a potter’s vessel.  10  Be wise now therefore, O ye kings: be instructed, ye judges of the earth.  11  Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice with trembling.  12  Kiss the Son, lest he be angry, and ye perish from the way, when his wrath is kindled but a little. Blessed are all they that put their trust in him.]

[and I shall give thee the heathen for thine inheritance,] We were all considered heathens before we knew Christ as our Saviour and kissed Him by accepting Him and applying His blood upon our soul when we asked Him to save us. Christ’s faithful may fail all day long, especially if they are burning the candle at both ends in their attempt to get so many things done in their own flesh, but they are faithful and repentant, and that is what gets His attention. God’s mercy is so great toward His faithful, and His grace abounds even more.

[Psalms 106:1-5  Praise ye the LORD. O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  2  Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD? who can shew forth all his praise?  3  Blessed are they that keep judgment, and he that doeth righteousness at all times.  4  Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people: O visit me with thy salvation;  5  That I may see the good of thy chosen, that I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation, that I may glory with thine inheritance.]

[that I may glory with thine inheritance.] It may seem hard to believe, but we whom have kissed the Son, are His inheritance and God actually glories in that. Do you know why? In the end, God knows that we are, but dust. We have this flesh that we carry around with us, and it is not easy with all the temptations and affliction we face, all because our first parents disobeyed one command.

[Psalms 106:43-47  Many times did he deliver them; but they provoked him with their counsel, and were brought low for their iniquity.  44  Nevertheless he regarded their affliction, when he heard their cry:  45  And he remembered for them his covenant, and repented according to the multitude of his mercies.  46  He made them also to be pitied of all those that carried them captives.  47  Save us, O LORD our God, and gather us from among the heathen, to give thanks unto thy holy name, and to triumph in thy praise.]

[He made them also to be pitied] God does not really hold our having a sin nature against us, which is why He has so much mercy, and promises to give all who are faithful to Him eternal life, and today, that is only found through our faith in Christ, [Romans 5:8-10  But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  9  Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.  10  For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.]

I will tell you something else, God’s timing is everything as well, when I started reading these chapters yesterday morning I had a different direction that I was going. So, sometimes, we may think that we are late, but it is God who is right on time. It is because we are stubborn and proud, and fail God more times than we care to admit, that he does not base our salvation on our own righteousness, rather Christ’s, who redeemed us.

[Psalms 107:1-2,5-9  O give thanks unto the LORD, for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.  2  Let the redeemed of the LORD say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; 5  Hungry and thirsty, their soul fainted in them.  6  Then they cried unto the LORD in their trouble, and he delivered them out of their distresses.  7  And he led them forth by the right way, that they might go to a city of habitation.  8  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!  9  For he satisfieth the longing soul, and filleth the hungry soul with goodness.]

[And he led them forth by the right way,] Many times, He kind of puts us in the back of the line so that He can get us back on the right path, because we do tend to get off the path He has put us on once in a while. Salvation has never been about works, because we have always fall short of getting to heaven by our works, it has always been about having faith in the Saviour, [Romans 8:2-4  For the law of the Spirit of life in Christ Jesus hath made me free from the law of sin and death.  3  For what the law could not do, in that it was weak through the flesh, God sending his own Son in the likeness of sinful flesh, and for sin, condemned sin in the flesh:  4  That the righteousness of the law might be fulfilled in us, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit.]

As many races, religions, cultures, and nations out there there are only two kinds of people, the children of God, and the children of men. Children of men are oblivious to the mercies and miracles of God, right in front of their own eyes. Oh, they may see something as it happened by chance or luck, but they never want to admit that God did it. I believe that God is still good to the children of men because there are still quite a few children of God standing up for Jesus, but that number is getting fewer, and this pandemic that continues to linger as well as new one starting, is evident of that. If they just turn to Christ, then He would save them, but they are the ones who are too stubborn to accept that they need Him.

[Psalms 107:14-18  He brought them out of darkness and the shadow of death, and brake their bands in sunder.  15  Oh that men would praise the LORD for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!  16  For he hath broken the gates of brass, and cut the bars of iron in sunder.  17  Fools because of their transgression, and because of their iniquities, are afflicted.  18  Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat; and they draw near unto the gates of death.]

[Their soul abhorreth all manner of meat;] God sends rain in the saved and unsaved. Why? In hopes that they will accept His Son. Does He know if they will accept Him? Of course, but that still does not stop Him from giving them the opportunity to get saved. The true heathens, the ones who would sell their soul to make six figures, are never satisfied with the worlds riches, no matter how much money they make. This is because nothing satisfies the soul, but Christ, and until they see that, they will always be hungry for more, [Matthew 6:24  No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for doing for me what I could never do, even if I hung on the cross myself. Your great sacrifice not only saved me from hell, it gave me eternal life through my faith alone in Your finished work. I know that I am only saved by grace through my faith and none of my works will ever be nor are for my salvation. I kissed You before You got angry with me and now I will spend eternity with You and not only that, You stand there right next to our Father, pleading my cause, reminding Him that I am covered under Your blood. Even when I mess up, and wander off the path, You are faithful and just to pull me back and put me where I need to be. Thank You, for loving me and not giving up on me, and for Your long suffering to save a sinner like me. Lord, let everything I do bring honor and glory to you. Give me Your power, mercy, grace, and strength to walk the path that You have given me, and keep me faithful and humble to make sure that I do not let mammon become the best of me. I love You and ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
