Message: Teach Them

Hello My Friend,

Jesus said, [Matthew 28:19-20  Go ye therefore, and teach all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost:  20  Teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you: and, lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.]

Do you know why we are to not only lead them to Christ, but teach them the ways of Christ also after they are saved? Well, Jesus said something else to Peter also that we should pay attention to and we might be able to understand that question, [John 21:17-18  He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.  18  Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.]

[and carry thee whither thou wouldest not.] You see, if we do not feed them, mean teach them as we have been taught from the Word of God, then they will not be fruitful to lead others to Christ. The best testimony of Christ saving ones soul is your testimony. Whenever Paul went into a city to preach the Gospel, he went to the Jews first, of course, most of them rejected the Gospel and then he would take the message out to the Gentiles. It was when he came to Corinth that he found Aquila, another converted Jew, and his wife Priscilla.

[Acts 18:1-6,9-10  After these things Paul departed from Athens, and came to Corinth;  2  And found a certain Jew named Aquila, born in Pontus, lately come from Italy, with his wife Priscilla; (because that Claudius had commanded all Jews to depart from Rome:) and came unto them.  3  And because he was of the same craft, he abode with them, and wrought: for by their occupation they were tentmakers.  4  And he reasoned in the synagogue every sabbath, and persuaded the Jews and the Greeks.  5  And when Silas and Timotheus were come from Macedonia, Paul was pressed in the spirit, and testified to the Jews that Jesus was Christ.  6  And when they opposed themselves, and blasphemed, he shook his raiment, and said unto them, Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean: from henceforth I will go unto the Gentiles. 9  Then spake the Lord to Paul in the night by a vision, Be not afraid, but speak, and hold not thy peace:  10  For I am with thee, and no man shall set on thee to hurt thee: for I have much people in this city.]

[Your blood be upon your own heads; I am clean:] This is another reason why we preach the Gospel, we are commanded by Jesus to preach the Gospel to whomever the Holy Spirit lays upon our heart to do so. If we tell them and they reject Christ, then we will not be held accountable for their rejecting Him. However, if we were led to tell them and we did not and they died before we get that opportunity, then we will be held accountable. Now, we do not lose our salvation for that, but it will haunt us for the rest of our lives because we never told them, [1 Corinthians 4:1-2  Let a man so account of us, as of the ministers of Christ, and stewards of the mysteries of God.  2  Moreover it is required in stewards, that a man be found faithful.]

Aquila and Priscilla came along with Paul up until they got to Ephesus, this was where they were able to show the Gospel to a man named Apollos. Apollos taught the Gospel of Christ as John the Baptist had taught those who followed him, but he lacked the one thing needed in order to be saved.

[Acts 18:18-19,24-26  And Paul after this tarried there yet a good while, and then took his leave of the brethren, and sailed thence into Syria, and with him Priscilla and Aquila; having shorn his head in Cenchrea: for he had a vow.  19  And he came to Ephesus, and left them there: but he himself entered into the synagogue, and reasoned with the Jews. 24  And a certain Jew named Apollos, born at Alexandria, an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.  25  This man was instructed in the way of the Lord; and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.  26  And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: whom when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.]

[and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.] This is exactly why Jesus sends us out there to preach the Gospel, it is actually not for those who are reprobates, but for those who are missing part of the truth. Remember, ignorance does not save us, even if we believe that, [John 3:16  For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.], we must also believe that, [Romans 10:9-10  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.]

[] We have to make sure that those who think they are saved understand what it is and that they are actually saved, it does no good to get baptized with water if you are not baptized first with the Holy Spirit. Paul goes on to show the importance of teaching this, he returned to Ephesus himself, while Apollos immediately started doing the same thing in Corinth, immediately after he learned the truth and got saved.

[Acts 19:1-6  And it came to pass, that, while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts came to Ephesus: and finding certain disciples,  2  He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.  3  And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John’s baptism.  4  Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.  5  When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.  6  And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and prophesied.]

[We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.] The reason these people did not receive the Holy Spirit yet was because they thought if they got water baptized, through repentance, and John the Baptist taught, then they would be saved. They missed the key fact that even John said that he only baptized with water, but Jesus would baptize them with the Holy Spirit, [Mark 1:8  I indeed have baptized you with water: but he shall baptize you with the Holy Ghost.]

[And when Paul had laid his hands upon them,] Paul did not actually just touch them and the Holy Spirit came upon them, their faith in Christ did that. We cannot and will not receive the Holy Spirit unless we personally have confessed Jesus Christ as our Saviour. Keep in mind also that speaking in tongues is where a person speaks their own language, and someone of another language can understand what they are saying. Now, for the confirmation of the doctrine, Paul, preached in a synagogue where Jesus preached, it was there that God allowed Paul to perform some miracles, special miracles that only Jesus would be able to fulfill.

[Acts 19:11-19  And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:  12  So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.  13  Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.  14  And there were seven sons of one Sceva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.  15  And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?  16  And the man in whom the evil spirit was leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.  17  And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also dwelling at Ephesus; and fear fell on them all, and the name of the Lord Jesus was magnified.  18  And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds. 19  Many of them also which used curious arts brought their books together, and burned them before all men: and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver.]

[Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?] Oh yes, Satan knows who you are if you have received Christ as your Saviour, and he knows he cannot touch you. The one he is after is the one who knows who Christ is, but has not accepted Him yet. If we resist the devil by faith in Christ, he will flee from us; but if we think to resist him by merely using Christ’s name, then Satan will prevail against us, and we will die without Christ, [1 John 5:12-13  He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.  13  These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for the day that You saved my soul, not because I got baptized in the water professing my faith in You, because I believed You alone saved me from my sin, and I was baptized with the Holy Spirit that second I accepted You as my Saviour. Lord, I am Your witness, and I know that You commanded me to preach the Gospel to all You lay upon my heart. Lead me and guide me, give me Your wisdom and the words to speak. Put Your hedge of protection around me, and let me not be hindered from preaching the Gospel. Fill me with Your mercy and grace, and release the power of the Holy Spirit inside of me. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
