Study: Living Water, Mercy And Grace

Hello My Friend,

As I was reading the chapters for today, I thought about the Samaritans, and how much the Jews hated them, they were both in blood and religion, called mongrel Jews, or mixed breeds. After the king of Assyria took the ten tribes into captivity into Samaria when they stayed after the captivity was over. While man always looks on the outside appearance, Jesus always looks at what is on the inside.

[John 4:7-10,13-14  There cometh a woman of Samaria to draw water: Jesus saith unto her, Give me to drink.  8  (For his disciples were gone away unto the city to buy meat.)  9  Then saith the woman of Samaria unto him, How is it that thou, being a Jew, askest drink of me, which am a woman of Samaria? for the Jews have no dealings with the Samaritans.  10  Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water. 13  Jesus answered and said unto her, Whosoever drinketh of this water shall thirst again:  14  But whosoever drinketh of the water that I shall give him shall never thirst; but the water that I shall give him shall be in him a well of water springing up into everlasting life.]

We can be saved, fully trusting that Christ has saved our soul and given us that living water that gives life to it, through His blood, but that does not mean that our soul does not get weary. And I tell you what, we can definitely feel dried out, and thirsting for that living water, even though it is inside of us. When David wrote this Psalm, it was probable that he felt the same way.

[Psalms 143:1-3,5-6,8-11  A Psalm of David. Hear my prayer, O LORD, give ear to my supplications: in thy faithfulness answer me, and in thy righteousness.  2  And enter not into judgment with thy servant: for in thy sight shall no man living be justified. 3  For the enemy hath persecuted my soul; he hath smitten my life down to the ground; he hath made me to dwell in darkness, as those that have been long dead. 5  I remember the days of old; I meditate on all thy works; I muse on the work of thy hands.  6  I stretch forth my hands unto thee: my soul thirsteth after thee, as a thirsty land. Selah.  8  Cause me to hear thy lovingkindness in the morning; for in thee do I trust: cause me to know the way wherein I should walk; for I lift up my soul unto thee.  9  Deliver me, O LORD, from mine enemies: I flee unto thee to hide me.  10  Teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.  11  Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake: for thy righteousness’ sake bring my soul out of trouble.]

[for in thy sight shall no man living be justified.] If there is one thing that all saved, born again, faithful Christians learn the longer they walk with Christ, the more they realize why they are saved by grace. It does not matter how strong our faith or how faithful we are, we all mess up sometimes, and that is why we are saved by grace, we do not need to be justified, for it is Christ who justifies us, [Romans 3:24-25  Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus:  25  Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;]

[Quicken me, O LORD, for thy name’s sake:] It is our faith in Christ alone that keeps us saved, and praise God for that because I know I would be dried up in the desert by now, [Revelation 21:6-7  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.  7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.]

Who is the enemy to our soul? Satan. And every thing that Satan afflicts us with darkens our path, the more he afflicts us, the more we lose sight of God. As we continue in the reading of 1 Chronicles, David continues to get the house of God and his kingdom in order before he died. Now, he is focusing his attention on the porters or gatekeepers. Some familiar names are mentioned, including Obededom, who kept the Ark in his home for a period of time.

[1 Chronicles 26:1,4-5,8,12-13  Concerning the divisions of the porters: Of the Korhites was Meshelemiah the son of Kore, of the sons of Asaph. 4  Moreover the sons of Obededom were, Shemaiah the firstborn, Jehozabad the second, Joah the third, and Sacar the fourth, and Nethaneel the fifth,  5  Ammiel the sixth, Issachar the seventh, Peulthai the eighth: for God blessed him. 8  All these of the sons of Obededom: they and their sons and their brethren, able men for strength for the service, were threescore and two of Obededom. 12  Among these were the divisions of the porters, even among the chief men, having wards one against another, to minister in the house of the LORD.  13  And they cast lots, as well the small as the great, according to the house of their fathers, for every gate.]

[as well the small as the great,] We tend to think, especially if we feel like we are at the bottom of God’s faithful’s list, that God cannot use us, but the truth is, He will use us even more. As I was praying this morning, my mind really was not where it needed to be, I did not get very much sleep last night, I missed church on top of that, and also saw something that bothered me a bit that left me wondering why it seems like I keep getting stuck in this hole. The thought came across my mind as to why God’s faithful get chastened as soon as they do something, while His unfaithful just live their lives without it. That was when God reminded me that He does not treat me any differently, it is just that I listen and learn from my mistakes, they do not and just keep on suffering. God is no respecter of persons, [Romans 2:9-11  Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;  10  But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:  11  For there is no respect of persons with God.]

The gatekeepers sole job was to open and shut the doors of the Temple, and they were responsible for making sure that no evil got through those doors. They were also responsible for making sure that nothing that was in the Temple was taken out of it. They had to be knowledgeable of the Law, faithful in their service, as well as strong enough to handle anyone who tried to get through those doors that did not belong there. God never places us in a position where we would not be able to do our work efficiently, effectively, and completely. Every position was equally important to maintain worship in the Temple as required by God. David goes on to appoint those who would be the treasurers.

[1 Chronicles 26:20-24,31-32  And of the Levites, Ahijah was over the treasures of the house of God, and over the treasures of the dedicated things.  21  As concerning the sons of Laadan; the sons of the Gershonite Laadan, chief fathers, even of Laadan the Gershonite, were Jehieli.  22  The sons of Jehieli; Zetham, and Joel his brother, which were over the treasures of the house of the LORD.  23  Of the Amramites, and the Izharites, the Hebronites, and the Uzzielites:  24  And Shebuel the son of Gershom, the son of Moses, was ruler of the treasures. 31  Among the Hebronites was Jerijah the chief, even among the Hebronites, according to the generations of his fathers. In the fortieth year of the reign of David they were sought for, and there were found among them mighty men of valour at Jazer of Gilead.  32  And his brethren, men of valour, were two thousand and seven hundred chief fathers, whom king David made rulers over the Reubenites, the Gadites, and the half tribe of Manasseh, for every matter pertaining to God, and affairs of the king.]

[was ruler of the treasures.] The treasurers held different positions, one group would keep charge of the holy things, another would keep charge of the dedicated things, which were spoils from their conquests. David, did not discredit anyone, he made sure to include everyone, regardless if they were of mixed nations. God does not discredit anyone, after all, He is the one who made us, [1 Corinthians 12:23-25  And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.  24  For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:  25  That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.]

The word schism means separation, as saved, born again Christians, we are all in this together and are definitely a bunch of mixed breeds. Men and women alike were appointed positions in the house of God, every position was equally important to maintain worship in the temple as required by God. The same is true today, whether we are sweeping floors, greeting people, teaching His Word, singing, or preaching, we all have the same purpose, to worship and serve Almighty God in strength for whatever job He appoints.

[Psalms 144:1-3,10-12,15  A Psalm of David. Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight:  2  My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.  3  LORD, what is man, that thou takest knowledge of him! or the son of man, that thou makest account of him! 10  It is he that giveth salvation unto kings: who delivereth David his servant from the hurtful sword.  11  Rid me, and deliver me from the hand of strange children, whose mouth speaketh vanity, and their right hand is a right hand of falsehood:  12  That our sons may be as plants grown up in their youth; that our daughters may be as corner stones, polished after the similitude of a palace:  15  Happy is that people, that is in such a case: yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.]

[yea, happy is that people, whose God is the LORD.] There is a song that comes to mind here, “We are happy people, praise the LORD. And we love the Bible, God’s own Word. Satan had a hold on me, Jesus came and set me free, now I’m saved eternally, oh praise the LORD.” We ought to take great joy in the fact that we do not have to panic when we mess up, we are saved by the blood of Christ, who thinks we are the most precious creature that He has created. It is time we stop taking that for granted because life is too short to waste it away on things that have no value, [Matthew 6:25-26,33  Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?  26  Behold the fowls of the air: for they sow not, neither do they reap, nor gather into barns; yet your heavenly Father feedeth them. Are ye not much better than they? 33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.]

God, knows what we need, how much we can handle, and even when we need to break, He does not want us to become weary of well doing, but keep in mind that He is not going to let us become complacent. Now, David sets in order the military, he makes sure that there was a different person in charge each month and a different group of troops so they do not get overburdened, [1 Chronicles 27:1-3  Now the children of Israel after their number, to wit, the chief fathers and captains of thousands and hundreds, and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses, which came in and went out month by month throughout all the months of the year, of every course were twenty and four thousand.  2  Over the first course for the first month was Jashobeam the son of Zabdiel: and in his course were twenty and four thousand.  3  Of the children of Perez was the chief of all the captains of the host for the first month.]

[and their officers that served the king in any matter of the courses,] Do you think that our military today would be more effective if they did not spend years overseas fighting wars that we really have no part of? Something has definitely got to change in our own country as the wearier we become the more vulnerable we are to being attacked ourselves. Now, David also sets in order those who would be in charge of his worth.

[1 Chronicles 27:25-27,31-34  And over the king’s treasures was Azmaveth the son of Adiel: and over the storehouses in the fields, in the cities, and in the villages, and in the castles, was Jehonathan the son of Uzziah:  26  And over them that did the work of the field for tillage of the ground was Ezri the son of Chelub:  27  And over the vineyards was Shimei the Ramathite: over the increase of the vineyards for the wine cellars was Zabdi the Shiphmite: 31  And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite. All these were the rulers of the substance which was king David’s.  32  Also Jonathan David’s uncle was a counsellor, a wise man, and a scribe: and Jehiel the son of Hachmoni was with the king’s sons:  33  And Ahithophel was the king’s counsellor: and Hushai the Archite was the king’s companion:  34  And after Ahithophel was Jehoiada the son of Benaiah, and Abiathar: and the general of the king’s army was Joab.]

[And over the flocks was Jaziz the Hagerite.] David, really did not leave anybody out, and it is really sad to find out what comes of the nation so quickly once he is gone, on particular after Solomon’s reign. Everything we have in our possession belongs to God, it is on loan to us until He brings us home, and if He sees fit to take it away, He will do so. Likewise, if He sees fit to increase our substance, He will do that too, [2 Timothy 2:19-21  Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity.  20  But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour.  21  If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work.]

It is important to understand that nothing is more valuable to God than His people, He will take care of us, even if we constantly mess up, [Psalms 145:1-3,8-10  David’s Psalm of praise. I will extol thee, my God, O king; and I will bless thy name for ever and ever.  2  Every day will I bless thee; and I will praise thy name for ever and ever.  3  Great is the LORD, and greatly to be praised; and his greatness is unsearchable. 8  The LORD is gracious, and full of compassion; slow to anger, and of great mercy.  9  The LORD is good to all: and his tender mercies are over all his works.  10  All thy works shall praise thee, O LORD; and thy saints shall bless thee.]

[and full of compassion; slow to anger,] Do you realize how much compassion God does have toward us, not to mention how slow He is to get angry at us? The only time He really gets angry and lets us know it is if we have taken His good graces for granted. God will not be mocked, especially by those who receive His Son and can care less how they live their lives, [Galatians 6:7-9  Be not deceived; God is not mocked: for whatsoever a man soweth, that shall he also reap.  8  For he that soweth to his flesh shall of the flesh reap corruption; but he that soweth to the Spirit shall of the Spirit reap life everlasting.  9  And let us not be weary in well doing: for in due season we shall reap, if we faint not.]

And that is what God’s mercy and grace are for, none of us get what we deserve, and those who think they are perfect and good need to realize that we are all sinners, and have come short of being perfect, and the same punishment goes for all of us, and that is death and hell. Only Jesus can save our soul, and He only saves those who come to Him by faith, accepting that His perfect sacrifice on the cross is the only payment needed to keep their soul our of hell, [Romans 10:9-10  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.]

Do you think that God’s faithful did not need to do the same thing before Christ came here in the flesh? We all need to call on the name of the LORD to be saved, [Psalms 145:14-20  The LORD upholdeth all that fall, and raiseth up all those that be bowed down.  15  The eyes of all wait upon thee; and thou givest them their meat in due season.  16  Thou openest thine hand, and satisfiest the desire of every living thing.  17  The LORD is righteous in all his ways, and holy in all his works.  18  The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.  19  He will fulfil the desire of them that fear him: he also will hear their cry, and will save them.  20  The LORD preserveth all them that love him: but all the wicked will he destroy.]

Today’s Prayer: God, I remember a time in my life where I never understood what it meant to be saved, I never even heard that term, all I heard was what I could and could not do or I would end up in hell. It was not until I was brought to a church that followed Your Word, that I learned the truth and finally understood that none of my works can save me, only Your Son can. Thank You for your compassion and willingness to wait for me to learn the truth, I know I am saved solely by my faith and acceptance in what Your Son, Jesus Christ, did for me on the cross and by Him alone. Now, I want to serve You wherever You send me, not because I have to, but because I want to thank You for what You did for me. Lord, Lead me and guide me, humble me, teach me, fill me with Your mercy, grace, and love, help me get in Your will to do the work You have for me, and give me the wisdom, strength, and courage to do it. Forgive me where I have failed You, and keep picking me up when I fall, I know that You will uphold me. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
