Message: For The Love Of God

Hello My Friend,

Every day I spend at my job the more I understand God and how He dealt with His people. God does not force us to do anything, but if we say that we want Him in our lives we better work harder at living by His commands, just like an unfaithful spouse would become jealous and angry if they are unfaithful so does God if we are unfaithful to Him. We need to think of God’s commandments as guides, not something we are bound to, laws are set for law breakers not those who try to live right. And truthfully, only those who become offended by God’s laws are the ones breaking them. If we love God we will work harder to follow His commandments, and they are not grievous. “For this is the love of God, that we keep his commandments: and his commandments are not grievous. For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.” – I John 5:3-4.

Of all the commandments that God has given, the most important are the first ten, follow these and the rest will not even come into play. Moses reminds the Israelites of the first ten commandments that God spoke Himself and written on two stone slabs with His own finger.

The LORD our God made a covenant with us in Horeb. The LORD made not this covenant with our fathers, but with us, even us, who are all of us here alive this day. The LORD talked with you face to face in the mount out of the midst of the fire, (I stood between the LORD and you at that time, to shew you the word of the LORD: for ye were afraid by reason of the fire, and went not up into the mount;) saying, I am the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage. Thou shalt have none other gods before me. Thou shalt not make thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the waters beneath the earth: Thou shalt not bow down thyself unto them, nor serve them: for I the LORD thy God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation of them that hate me, And shewing mercy unto thousands of them that love me and keep my commandments.” – Deuteronomy 5:2-10.

who are all of us here alive this day.” Who cares what other people do or how they live, God made a covenant with You, and He expects you to follow His commandments, He will deal with backsliders and liars Himself, you just need to focus on you and what He wants for your life. “For whether we live, we live unto the Lord; and whether we die, we die unto the Lord: whether we live therefore, or die, we are the Lord’s. For to this end Christ both died, and rose, and revived, that he might be Lord both of the dead and living. But why dost thou judge thy brother? or why dost thou set at nought thy brother? for we shall all stand before the judgment seat of Christ. For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God.” – Romans 14:8-12.

There is key to keeping God’s commands, fear God. Fearing God is loving Him, respecting Him, honoring Him, acknowledging Him, and following His commands not because we have to, but because we want to. Moses reminds the Israelites that fearing God will bless and prolong their lives.

Now these are the commandments, the statutes, and the judgments, which the LORD your God commanded to teach you, that ye might do them in the land whither ye go to possess it: That thou mightest fear the LORD thy God, to keep all his statutes and his commandments, which I command thee, thou, and thy son, and thy son’s son, all the days of thy life; and that thy days may be prolonged. Hear therefore, O Israel, and observe to do it; that it may be well with thee, and that ye may increase mightily, as the LORD God of thy fathers hath promised thee, in the land that floweth with milk and honey. Hear, O Israel: The LORD our God is one LORD: And thou shalt love the LORD thy God with all thine heart, and with all thy soul, and with all thy might. And it shall be, when the LORD thy God shall have brought thee into the land which he sware unto thy fathers, to Abraham, to Isaac, and to Jacob, to give thee great and goodly cities, which thou buildedst not, And houses full of all good things, which thou filledst not, and wells digged, which thou diggedst not, vineyards and olive trees, which thou plantedst not; when thou shalt have eaten and be full; Then beware lest thou forget the LORD, which brought thee forth out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.” – Deuteronomy 6:1-5,10-12.

and that thy days may be prolonged.” I have seen some mean people live for years, but also seen some good people die before their time. How God chooses our longevity will always be a mystery, but following His commandments are more than just obeying some rules, it is loving Him with all our heart, mind, and spirit. When we love God wholeheartedly we will see that we will live our lives blessed and to the fullest, no matter how long it is that we are here or what we had to endure. “Blessed are ye that hunger now: for ye shall be filled. Blessed are ye that weep now: for ye shall laugh. Blessed are ye, when men shall hate you, and when they shall separate you from their company, and shall reproach you, and cast out your name as evil, for the Son of man’s sake. Rejoice ye in that day, and leap for joy: for, behold, your reward is great in heaven: for in the like manner did their fathers unto the prophets.” – Luke 6:21-23.

You know, God did not just choose us because we are the best, He chose us because He made a covenant with us, to never leave nor forsake us when we put our faith and trust in His Son. Moses reminds the Israelite’s that they are holy, chosen by God Himself, not because they were righteous, but because He loved them.

For thou art an holy people unto the LORD thy God: the LORD thy God hath chosen thee to be a special people unto himself, above all people that are upon the face of the earth. The LORD did not set his love upon you, nor choose you, because ye were more in number than any people; for ye were the fewest of all people: But because the LORD loved you, and because he would keep the oath which he had sworn unto your fathers, hath the LORD brought you out with a mighty hand, and redeemed you out of the house of bondmen, from the hand of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore that the LORD thy God, he is God, the faithful God, which keepeth covenant and mercy with them that love him and keep his commandments to a thousand generations; And repayeth them that hate him to their face, to destroy them: he will not be slack to him that hateth him, he will repay him to his face. Thou shalt therefore keep the commandments, and the statutes, and the judgments, which I command thee this day, to do them.” – Deuteronomy 7:6-11.

But because the LORD loved you,” Christians are far from being perfect, they are in fact, the fewest in number, but God lifts them up higher than all the rest. Why? We are not redeemed by any works of our own, but by the works of Christ, who died on the cross for us. Christ died for all because God loves us so much that He does not want to see anyone in hell, He gave His life so we can live. God is faithful to those who believe in His Son, and receive Him as our Saviour, He is full of mercy and grace toward us, and He will never break His promise to give us eternal life. Any good that we do after we are saved comes from our love for God as we learn His ways and follow them. “Beloved, let us love one another: for love is of God; and every one that loveth is born of God, and knoweth God. He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love. In this was manifested the love of God toward us, because that God sent his only begotten Son into the world, that we might live through him.” – I John 4:7-9.

Jesus Christ Magnified: Today Jesus is revealed through the land flowing with milk and honey, which is a picture of the Kingdom of God for without Him we would never get to see. “Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God.” – John 3:3.

Today’s Prayer: God, It is Your desire that we stay faithful to Your teachings. Scripture gives many examples of those who knew to do right, but chose to do wrong. The consequences of their wrong actions not only made them suffer, but others around them as well. Lord, help me to avoid the traps that take me away from Your truth and living an alternate, destructive life. It is only by reading Your Word, but applying its truth to my life that I even have a chance to fight the battles around me. Help me to be the godly example that You want me to be for all who cross my path. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
