Dedication; The act of devoting or giving to, complete and wholehearted devotion. If you know Jesus Christ as your personal Saviour you can rejoice knowing that at least once in your life you dedicated you life to Christ by asking Him to save your life. One day you will see Jesus face to face and when that time comes He is going to give you an instant replay of our life, what you did or could have done to serve Him and just how dedicated you were to Him while you were living here on earth. While our works do not get us to heaven, they do count in the rewards we will receive when we get to His Kingdom. “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.” – Matthew 6:19-21.

“there will your heart be also.” God loves a person who is wholeheartedly devoted to Him, the amazing thing is that when we are dedicated to Him, He is dedicated to us. The Tabernacle was all set up, the people were told what they needed to bring, and now the time had finally come for Israel to be able to bring their offerings for the service of the tabernacle.

“And it came to pass on the day that Moses had fully set up the tabernacle, and had anointed it, and sanctified it, and all the instruments thereof, both the altar and all the vessels thereof, and had anointed them, and sanctified them; That the princes of Israel, heads of the house of their fathers, who were the princes of the tribes, and were over them that were numbered, offered: And they brought their offering before the LORD, six covered wagons, and twelve oxen; a wagon for two of the princes, and for each one an ox: and they brought them before the tabernacle. And the LORD spake unto Moses, saying, Take it of them, that they may be to do the service of the tabernacle of the congregation; and thou shalt give them unto the Levites, to every man according to his service.” – Numbers 7:1-5.

“to every man according to his service.” These were the offerings given to the Levites so they could perform the daily duties of the tabernacle. Giving tithe is not a means for the church to get rich, it is to keep the doors open so those who are sick spiritually can be healed in so many ways. It is full of people who sacrifice their time without ever seeking financial gain. However, the man of God who dedicated his life to serving God as the head of His church needs to be compensated for his time as he has sacrificed his life and family to God to teach us the things of God. We do not lose anything by giving tithe, in fact, we gain by giving. “Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse, that there may be meat in mine house, and prove me now herewith, saith the LORD of hosts, if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.” – Malachi 3:10.

Each family of the Levites were to carry certain parts of the tabernacle, the wagons and oxen were to be used in carrying the tabernacle, both for their ease of transport, and a safer way to keep all the parts together.

“And Moses took the wagons and the oxen, and gave them unto the Levites. Two wagons and four oxen he gave unto the sons of Gershon, according to their service: And four wagons and eight oxen he gave unto the sons of Merari, according unto their service, under the hand of Ithamar the son of Aaron the priest. But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none: because the service of the sanctuary belonging unto them was that they should bear upon their shoulders.” – Numbers 7:6-9.

“But unto the sons of Kohath he gave none:” Since the Kohathites were to carry the most valuable parts of the tabernacle upon their shoulders they were not given any wagons to carry. God knows how much of a burden we can take, He often uses the least qualified for His greatest work, but He never gives us more than we can carry upon our shoulders. “There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.” – I Corinthians 10:13.

Now, the princes (heads) of each of the twelve tribes stood before the tent with their offerings and every day for twelve days the same offering was offered just to dedicate the altar. At the end of the twelfth day this is what was offered.

“This was the dedication of the altar, in the day when it was anointed, by the princes of Israel: twelve chargers of silver, twelve silver bowls, twelve spoons of gold: Each charger of silver weighing an hundred and thirty shekels, each bowl seventy: all the silver vessels weighed two thousand and four hundred shekels, after the shekel of the sanctuary: The golden spoons were twelve, full of incense, weighing ten shekels apiece, after the shekel of the sanctuary: all the gold of the spoons was an hundred and twenty shekels. All the oxen for the burnt offering were twelve bullocks, the rams twelve, the lambs of the first year twelve, with their meat offering: and the kids of the goats for sin offering twelve. And all the oxen for the sacrifice of the peace offerings were twenty and four bullocks, the rams sixty, the he goats sixty, the lambs of the first year sixty. This was the dedication of the altar, after that it was anointed.” – Numbers 7:84-88.

“This was the dedication of the altar,” This is an amazing illustration that shows there is only one offering that is acceptable for our salvation. Moses was the mediator, the middleman, who presented the offerings before God, in a sense he was like a lawyer defending his client. He stood before God, the judge, presented his case, all the evidence, and pleaded before his clients life to be saved. If the judge saw that the offering was sincere He pardoned that persons soul for the sake of the one pleading for it. Today, Jesus is our mediator, He presents our case before God and pleads for us, all we have to do to be pardoned is offer ourselves to Him sincerely. “Who will have all men to be saved, and to come unto the knowledge of the truth. For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus; Who gave himself a ransom for all, to be testified in due time.” – I Timothy 2:4-6.

Jesus Christ Magnified: Today Jesus is revealed through voluntary offerings of the leaders which were sufficient to meet the needs. Jesus offers us everything we need, including Himself. “But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 4:19.

Today’s Prayer: God, I dedicate myself freely to You. May my actions not be based on man’s changing words or the standards of the world, but the standards of Your unchanging, living Word. Let it be an anchor for my soul so that I will keep moving forward with my Saviour Jesus Christ. Help me to be watchful for those who are veering off course so that I can encourage them in the faith and be an encouragement for their wandering souls. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
