Message: All Scripture Is Profitable

Hello My Friend,

I have been working on the God versus Religion page on the I’m Following Jesus website all year, I am have an extremely hard time getting it done because every time I read something these religions are teaching it angers me. One religion does not accept the Bible as inspired, stating that there was no list in Scripture to teach man how to be perfect in God’s eyes. Of course, this is false because the entire book is, in fact inspired, and not only that gives us instructions on how He wants us to live. As Christians it is important to read and study all of God’s Word, it amazes me whenever people tell me that the Old Testament is not significant for us today. You know, the New Testament is a reflection of the Old, Jesus often quoted from the Old. It is important that we know all the Scriptures so we can know His will. While we are not bound by many of the laws that were given through Moses, the same principles still apply. “All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.” – II Timothy 3:16-17.

The Pharisees, scribes, and Sadducee’s were very religious, but they were determined to destroy Jesus. Why? They did not want anyone proving them the liars that they were and would do anything necessary to keep the truth from being revealed. They thought themselves to be righteous and God fearing, but the reality of it was they made up their own religion. Instead of studying the Scriptures and learning the truth they did what they learned by bits and pieces of what they heard of God’s Word and Jewish traditions. The Jews thought that their Messiah would come with full force as a mighty king, but Jesus was meek and mild, a carpenters son from the lineage of David they believed. Jesus calls them out for who they were, reminding them that even David knew who He was.

And Jesus answered and said, while he taught in the temple, How say the scribes that Christ is the Son of David? For David himself said by the Holy Ghost, The LORD said to my Lord, Sit thou on my right hand, till I make thine enemies thy footstool. David therefore himself calleth him Lord; and whence is he then his son? And the common people heard him gladly. And he said unto them in his doctrine, Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing, and love salutations in the marketplaces, And the chief seats in the synagogues, and the uppermost rooms at feasts: Which devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayers: these shall receive greater damnation.” – Mark 12:35-40.

Beware of the scribes, which love to go in long clothing,” False religion gives man all the glory. Think about this, the pope, how many people worship him? We are to worship God only, not man. False religion is what destroys who God really is, piece by piece they remove His truth and create their own image of who He. When we get in God’s Word and read what it declares about Christ we shall be led to confess Him as our Lord and God. If the common people gladly hear these things while the religious want to destroy Him, what is to come of them? Destruction upon themselves. While God is not a respecter of persons, and all sin leads to death, some sin is a complete abomination to Him and will receive a greater punishment before they even face Him for judgment. “It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him: If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us: If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself. Of these things put them in remembrance, charging them before the Lord that they strive not about words to no profit, but to the subverting of the hearers. Study to shew thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. But shun profane and vain babblings: for they will increase unto more ungodliness.” – II Timothy 2:11-16.

I love my church, it is the closest place I call home since the first church I attended that turned my life over to Christ back in 2004. I love it because it is built upon the authority of Christ, do I agree with all of the bylaws? No. Since we are all sinners saved by grace, and have our own understanding of the Bible, we can expect some of them to be of personal preference, but what they never do is change the Gospel, water down the Bible, or go completely off its message, and that is the key to a strong, Christ centered church. As Jesus was in the temple teaching and observing things that were going on He started getting kind of angry, the Pharisees, scribes, and Sadducees were constantly tempting Him, trying to catch Him do or say something wrong, and yet they had the holier that thou attitude. Fed up with all this, He began speaking, first of all, telling them who the true Master is.

All therefore whatsoever they bid you observe, that observe and do; but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not. For they bind heavy burdens and grievous to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but they themselves will not move them with one of their fingers. But all their works they do for to be seen of men: they make broad their phylacteries, and enlarge the borders of their garments, And love the uppermost rooms at feasts, and the chief seats in the synagogues, And greetings in the markets, and to be called of men, Rabbi, Rabbi. But be not ye called Rabbi: for one is your Master, even Christ; and all ye are brethren. And call no man your father upon the earth: for one is your Father, which is in heaven. Neither be ye called masters: for one is your Master, even Christ. But he that is greatest among you shall be your servant.” – Matthew 23:3-11.

but do not ye after their works: for they say, and do not.” Religion loves to tell us, to do this, do not that, but they are the worse offenders of their own law. It does not matter what church you attend, every one of them has their own set of rules to follow in order to be a member, and let me tell you, there can be some pretty strict rules. However, if what they are expecting from you distorts or teaches another doctrine other than the simplicity of the Gospel then it is time to find a new church. There really is only one church that we are to follow, and that is the one in lead through Christ Himself. “We give thanks to God and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, praying always for you, Who is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn of every creature: For by him were all things created, that are in heaven, and that are in earth, visible and invisible, whether they be thrones, or dominions, or principalities, or powers: all things were created by him, and for him: And he is before all things, and by him all things consist. And he is the head of the body, the church: who is the beginning, the firstborn from the dead; that in all things he might have the preeminence.” – Colossians 1:3,15-18.

Do you know how many people tried to convince me that I am not saved because I am only trusting Christ as my Saviour. They will even throw in some Scripture to try to prove their point, I have responded with Scripture as well, only to no avail. This is exactly what Jesus does not want us to do, we are not to argue with those who clearly are not following God’s Word. Jesus continues to call out the scribes and Pharisees as hypocrites.

But woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye shut up the kingdom of heaven against men: for ye neither go in yourselves, neither suffer ye them that are entering to go in. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye devour widows’ houses, and for a pretence make long prayer: therefore ye shall receive the greater damnation. Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves. O Jerusalem, Jerusalem, thou that killest the prophets, and stonest them which are sent unto thee, how often would I have gathered thy children together, even as a hen gathereth her chickens under her wings, and ye would not! Behold, your house is left unto you desolate. For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” – Matthew 23:13-15,37-39.

Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.Until we are willing to open our heart to see Jesus for who he really is there is no hope. This is how false religions and different Bible versions show up, let me tell you, many people know a little bit of Scripture, even the devil himself, it is all a scheme to get those who are truly living in God’s Word doubting their salvation and stop telling the truth to others. We are going to be tempted and tried for holding on to the truths of the Bible, but it is okay because we have something amazing and great to look forward to. “But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope. For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him. For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep. For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first: Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.” – I Thessalonians 4:13-17.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “For I say unto you, Ye shall not see me henceforth, till ye shall say, Blessed is he that cometh in the name of the Lord.” – Matthew 23:39.

Today’s Prayer: God, You have given us the greatest example of living in Your will in the person of Your Son, Jesus Christ. Others in this world may earn titles and win prizes for worldly pursuits, but the greatest prize I will ever obtain in serving You is getting to see You face to face. And amazingly, it is not because I earned it, but because I put my faith and trust in Christ alone. Thank You for all that You do. Lead me and guide me, keep me in Your Word, studying and living in You will, help me to always love You with my heart, soul, mind, and strength. Let me be forgiving to those who wronged me so I can be blessed even more. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
