Message: Only One Sacrifice
Hello My Friend,
As I was reading the chapters for today, this passage came to mind, [John 13:10 Jesus saith to him, He that is washed needeth not save to wash his feet, but is clean every whit: and ye are clean, but not all.].
The second we get saved, we are actually washed in the blood of Jesus Christ. Because Jesus gave His life, being sinless, pure, and immaculate, His blood is enough to not cover our sins, but remove them permanently. This means that even though our flesh is weak in that we will always sin until God brings us home or Jesus returns, our soul remains strong in the Spirit of God that gives life to it. Since our flesh is weak, repentance is necessary, pretty much on a daily basis, but our soul remains spotless, covered in the blood of Christ, the only sacrifice that makes us clean. [Hebrews 10:11-14 And every priest standeth daily ministering and offering oftentimes the same sacrifices, which can never take away sins: 12 But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God; 13 From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool. 14 For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.]
It is only by our faith in Christ through the hearing and receiving of the Gospel that we are sanctified or made clean. Iniquity means injustice, just because we do something that we think is right that does not make it right, if God says it is wrong, then we are to abide by that. If we truly love God, and want to serve Him, we have to do it His way, not ours, otherwise, we are doing Him and ourselves an injustice. Remember, Jesus chooses us, and that means, we must be fully dedicated, meaning, willing to do what He tells us do, and that includes repentance. Yesterday, we read about the instructions for the tabernacle, today, we are readinf about the clothes that the priests would be wearing when ministering to God.
[Exodus 28:1-4 And take thou unto thee Aaron thy brother, and his sons with him, from among the children of Israel, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office, even Aaron, Nadab and Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, Aaron’s sons. 2 And thou shalt make holy garments for Aaron thy brother for glory and for beauty. 3 And thou shalt speak unto all that are wise hearted, whom I have filled with the spirit of wisdom, that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office. 4 And these are the garments which they shall make; a breastplate, and an ephod, and a robe, and a broidered coat, a mitre, and a girdle: and they shall make holy garments for Aaron thy brother, and his sons, that he may minister unto me in the priest’s office.]
[that they may make Aaron’s garments to consecrate him,] To consecrate means to make one clean so that they can stand before God and serve Him. You see, the priest’s were not without sin either, in order to serve God, they had to be redeemed and atone for their sin before they were able to start ministering to God and the congregation. The high priest had the most responsibility, his clothes would have a few more things attached to them, including two shoulder pieces that would sit upon his shoulders. [Exodus 28:9-12 And thou shalt take two onyx stones, and grave on them the names of the children of Israel: 10 Six of their names on one stone, and the other six names of the rest on the other stone, according to their birth. 11 With the work of an engraver in stone, like the engravings of a signet, shalt thou engrave the two stones with the names of the children of Israel: thou shalt make them to be set in ouches of gold. 12 And thou shalt put the two stones upon the shoulders of the ephod for stones of memorial unto the children of Israel: and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.]
[and Aaron shall bear their names before the LORD upon his two shoulders for a memorial.] Memorial; To preserve a memory. Every single time the high priest stood before God, God saw those names, and it was a reminder to Him that He made a promise to save and protect all who had come to Him for atonement. Jesus has written upon His shoulders the name of every soul saved. Whenever we come to God, it is Jesus who stands before us, signifying to the Father that we are covered in His blood. [Luke 10:20 Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.]
Jesus bears all our infirmities, and when He: stands before God, the Father, He sees the names of every soul who received His Son, upon His shoulders (Romans 8:27). Now, we learn of the breastplate of judgment. Besides their names written upon the shoulders, they would also be written upon their heart.
[Exodus 28:16-21,29-30 Foursquare it shall be being doubled; a span shall be the length thereof, and a span shall be the breadth thereof. 17 And thou shalt set in it settings of stones, even four rows of stones: the first row shall be a sardius, a topaz, and a carbuncle: this shall be the first row. 18 And the second row shall be an emerald, a sapphire, and a diamond. 19 And the third row a ligure, an agate, and an amethyst. 20 And the fourth row a beryl, and an onyx, and a jasper: they shall be set in gold in their inclosings. 21 And the stones shall be with the names of the children of Israel, twelve, according to their names, like the engravings of a signet; every one with his name shall they be according to the twelve tribes. 29 And Aaron shall bear the names of the children of Israel in the breastplate of judgment upon his heart, when he goeth in unto the holy place, for a memorial before the LORD continually. 30 And thou shalt put in the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim; and they shall be upon Aaron’s heart, when he goeth in before the LORD: and Aaron shall bear the judgment of the children of Israel upon his heart before the LORD continually.]
[the breastplate of judgment the Urim and the Thummim;] The Urim and Thummim, by which the will of God was made known in doubtful cases, were put in this breastplate. Urim and Thummim signify light and integrity. The breastplate of judgment was to put him in mind that he should do justice and judgment in the execution of His office. Jesus is the Light that we all look upon, and the Integrity that allows us to stand before God in righteousness [John 7:24]. Jesus holds each and every one of His people in His heart, and again, when He stands before God, the Father, He sees those names, not only up on His shoulders, but His heart as well. There was another interesting thing that God instructed that the high priest needed to wear, a blue robe.
[Exodus 28:32-35 And there shall be an hole in the top of it, in the midst thereof: it shall have a binding of woven work round about the hole of it, as it were the hole of an habergeon, that it be not rent. 33 And beneath upon the hem of it thou shalt make pomegranates of blue, and of purple, and of scarlet, round about the hem thereof; and bells of gold between them round about: 34 A golden bell and a pomegranate, a golden bell and a pomegranate, upon the hem of the robe round about. 35 And it shall be upon Aaron to minister: and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD, and when he cometh out, that he die not.]
[and his sound shall be heard when he goeth in unto the holy place before the LORD,] It was important that one; the priest be heard coming toward God in order to minster to the people, two; that he had on all the proper garments, and three; that he leave with the same garments on that he came in with. We must believe in and receive Christ as our Saviour before we can enter the holy place of God. And that faith must be the same until the day we take our last breath, otherwise, we will not be able to stand before Him and live. Now, it was not enough to have on the proper clothes, they had to be cleansed of their sin, this was something that water would not cleanse. The only thing that cleanses us of sin is blood. God gives Moses the instructions on what the priests were to do in order to be cleansed of their sin.
[Exodus 29:1-4 And this is the thing that thou shalt do unto them to hallow them, to minister unto me in the priest’s office: Take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish, 2 And unleavened bread, and cakes unleavened tempered with oil, and wafers unleavened anointed with oil: of wheaten flour shalt thou make them. 3 And thou shalt put them into one basket, and bring them in the basket, with the bullock and the two rams. 4 And Aaron and his sons thou shalt bring unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation, and shalt wash them with water.]
[Take one young bullock, and two rams without blemish,] There were three animal sacrifices required. The first one, which was a male calf, it was to be offered up for their sin. [Exodus 29:12-14 And thou shalt take of the blood of the bullock, and put it upon the horns of the altar with thy finger, and pour all the blood beside the bottom of the altar. 13 And thou shalt take all the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul that is above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and burn them upon the altar. 14 But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung, shalt thou burn with fire without the camp: it is a sin offering.]
[But the flesh of the bullock, and his skin, and his dung,] These things are to be taken outside of the fence of the Tabernacle and burned. They signify the sinfulness of our flesh, how tainted it is, and cannot be offered to God on its own for atonement. And therefore, another sacrifice was necessary after the sin offering, and that was the burnt offering. [Exodus 29:15-18 Thou shalt also take one ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram. 16 And thou shalt slay the ram, and thou shalt take his blood, and sprinkle it round about upon the altar. 17 And thou shalt cut the ram in pieces, and wash the inwards of him, and his legs, and put them unto his pieces, and unto his head. 18 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.]
[And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar:] This was the sacrifice that became their atonement. Anyone who enjoys the scent of a steak cooking on the grill can attest to the sweet smell that comes from the meat cooking. Jesus not only removes the sin, He literally sends the sweet savor of His flesh up the Father, and that is enough to appease us of our sin. When God, the Father, accepts our faith by taking the blood of His Son upon us, His body sends up that sweet scent of cleanliness, and then God is pleased to accept us.
The sin offering and the burnt offering was not enough for them to be consecrated to be able to minister to God, now came the consecration offering. [Exodus 29:19-22 And thou shalt take the other ram; and Aaron and his sons shall put their hands upon the head of the ram. 20 Then shalt thou kill the ram, and take of his blood, and put it upon the tip of the right ear of Aaron, and upon the tip of the right ear of his sons, and upon the thumb of their right hand, and upon the great toe of their right foot, and sprinkle the blood upon the altar round about. 21 And thou shalt take of the blood that is upon the altar, and of the anointing oil, and sprinkle it upon Aaron, and upon his garments, and upon his sons, and upon the garments of his sons with him: and he shall be hallowed, and his garments, and his sons, and his sons’ garments with him. 22 Also thou shalt take of the ram the fat and the rump, and the fat that covereth the inwards, and the caul above the liver, and the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, and the right shoulder; for it is a ram of consecration:]
[and he shall be hallowed, and his garments,] Placing the blood on their right ear was to keep them attentive, the thumb was to keep them alert to what they were touching, the right toe was to keep them alter to where they were walking. Right always signifies doing what is actually right while left is always signifies what appears right, but is wrong, [Matthew 7:21-23]. This was not something that happened in one day, it took seven days for them to follow this procedure so that they could go into the tabernacle and minister before the people. And this is why they stayed there for two weeks. Once they were consecrated they were able to not only stand before God, but eat with Him, and fulfill their ministration duties. And yet, they still were not done, one more sacrifice would be made, but it was not an animal, it was bread. [Exodus 29:23-25 And one loaf of bread, and one cake of oiled bread, and one wafer out of the basket of the unleavened bread that is before the LORD: 24 And thou shalt put all in the hands of Aaron, and in the hands of his sons; and shalt wave them for a wave offering before the LORD. 25 And thou shalt receive them of their hands, and burn them upon the altar for a burnt offering, for a sweet savour before the LORD: it is an offering made by fire unto the LORD.]
[and shalt wave them for a wave offering before the LORD.] This is sort of like a white flag, you surrender to God, and He in return finds favor in your offering your life as a living sacrifice. Let me tell you, dedicating your life to Jesus Christ comes with a lot of responsibility, but it does not turn void, and remember, He chose you so you know that you are capable of doing it, you just need Him to be able to pull it off. [John 15:16 Ye have not chosen me, but I have chosen you, and ordained you, that ye should go and bring forth fruit, and that your fruit should remain: that whatsoever ye shall ask of the Father in my name, he may give it you.]
Jesus Christ Magnified: [Exodus 29:18 And thou shalt burn the whole ram upon the altar: it is a burnt offering unto the LORD: it is a sweet savour, an offering made by fire unto the LORD.]
Today’s Prayer: God, We know that there is nothing we can do or say to merit salvation, it is a free gift to all who believe in the ultimate price that Your Son paid for our sins. Thank You, Jesus, for giving Your life, and saving my soul. And thank You also for cleansing me so that I may be able to stand before You in light and integrity. Lord, lead me and guide me, give me Your power, wisdom, guidance, and the strength to be the minister that You want me to be. Help me remove everything from my life that would keep me from serving You with my whole heart. And fill me with Your mercy, grace, and the things that are acceptable to You. I ask these things in your name, Jesus. Amen.
