Message: New Creature

Hello My Friend,

I spent the afternoon taking down the rest of the Christmas decorations, cleaning the house, and getting ready for Monday when I start my new full-time job. I think everyone feels a little bit melancholy when one year ends and a new one begins. Oh, we really are ready for a new year as life is a bit abnormal for a month or so, but there is something about the beautiful lights and decorations that somehow managed to light up our spirit for a little while, but once they come down it seems to come down also. Of course, reading about the flood did not help much, but we must always remember that we are new creatures through our faith in Christ, God does not want us to stay the same, we are to always be growing or changing in the likeness of Christ a little each year.

[Knowing therefore the terror of the Lord, we persuade men; but we are made manifest unto God; and I trust also are made manifest in your consciences. Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new. And all things are of God, who hath reconciled us to himself by Jesus Christ, and hath given to us the ministry of reconciliation; – 2 Corinthians 5:11,17-18]

As we continue in the reading of Genesis, God gives Noah and his sons the instructions on what they were to do now that the flood is gone and they can start living on the earth. The ark was a picture of Christ, it saved the eight people on board and even the rest of the creatures on it. So, in a sense, when they got on the ark they became new creatures. How? Because life as they knew it was all about to change, there was no way they would be able to get back to life as normal, as everything was going to be different now.

[And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. – Genesis 9:1-4]

[And the fear of you and the dread of you] This is why all the animals were able to be be around people and on the ark together before the flood, besides all being vegans, they had no fear. All of that changed, not only would man be able to eat animal flesh, but the animals would now eat flesh also and fear man. Up until the flood, animals were only offered up to God as a burnt offering, now they were acceptable as food and blood would be required to redeem them of their sin, [And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. – Genesis 9:5]

God was not done, He had more to say, in fact, He made a covenant, not only to man, but every living creature. A promise that is, to never destroy life on earth again with a flood ever again, [And God spake unto Noah, and to his sons with him, saying, And I, behold, I establish my covenant with you, and with your seed after you; And with every living creature that is with you, of the fowl, of the cattle, and of every beast of the earth with you; from all that go out of the ark, to every beast of the earth. And I will establish my covenant with you; neither shall all flesh be cut off any more by the waters of a flood; neither shall there any more be a flood to destroy the earth. And God said, This is the token of the covenant which I make between me and you and every living creature that is with you, for perpetual generations: I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. – Genesis 9:8-13]

[I do set my bow in the cloud,] What does God do to remind us of that promise, He places a rainbow in the sky after a storm. And what does the world do with the rainbow, they ruin it with their promoting their lusts of their flesh. Mark God’s words, [Therefore will I number you to the sword, and ye shall all bow down to the slaughter: because when I called, ye did not answer; when I spake, ye did not hear; but did evil before mine eyes, and did choose that wherein I delighted not. And ye shall leave your name for a curse unto my chosen: for the Lord GOD shall slay thee, and call his servants by another name: That he who blesseth himself in the earth shall bless himself in the God of truth; and he that sweareth in the earth shall swear by the God of truth; because the former troubles are forgotten, and because they are hid from mine eyes. – Isaiah 65:12,15-16]

We are new creatures, through our faith in Christ, set apart from the world, chosen by God Himself because we solely trusted Christ as our Saviour. Therefore, we are to come out from among the world, put the past behind us, and move forward in the newness that Christ gives us every time we are blessed with a new day. Now, with just eight people on earth witnessing the wrath and mercies of God, you would think that all of them would be fearing God, and teaching that fear to their children. However, that was not the case, oh, they were definitely good at multiplying, but as for their fear of God, not so much. Once they started to get back to life, they went right back to their old ways, and apparently, Ham was the liberal son, who taught his children to be also as we learn when Moses, being a farmer, or husbandman, planted a vineyard and managed to get himself drunk.

[And the sons of Noah, that went forth of the ark, were Shem, and Ham, and Japheth: and Ham is the father of Canaan. These are the three sons of Noah: and of them was the whole earth overspread. And Noah began to be an husbandman, and he planted a vineyard: And he drank of the wine, and was drunken; and he was uncovered within his tent. And Ham, the father of Canaan, saw the nakedness of his father, and told his two brethren without. And Shem and Japheth took a garment, and laid it upon both their shoulders, and went backward, and covered the nakedness of their father; and their faces were backward, and they saw not their father’s nakedness. – Genesis 9:18-23]

[And Noah began to be an husbandman,] Noah, did what he normally would have done before the flood, he planted his crops and a vineyard, little did he know that storing that grape juice apparently in the dark and in wooden crates would ferment it and become alcoholic. I admit that I got drunk one time, but did not know what I was drinking either. When I woke up the next morning I was angry because I allowed myself to get that way, had a huge headache, and was sick. Thank God, that I did not do anything embarrassing, but that did not stop my co-workers from making fun of me. So, you can imagine how Noah felt when he woke up and found out that Ham saw him like that and instead of helping him, went and got his brothers, and apparently his son also. He was angry and literally cursed Ham’s son.

[And Noah awoke from his wine, and knew what his younger son had done unto him. And he said, Cursed be Canaan; a servant of servants shall he be unto his brethren. And he said, Blessed be the LORD God of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. God shall enlarge Japheth, and he shall dwell in the tents of Shem; and Canaan shall be his servant. – Genesis 9:24-27]

[Cursed be Canaan;] Why did Noah curse Canaan and not Ham? God often places the judgment of their sins upon their children because their children inherit the fathers sins, and then some. It is probable that Ham was quite cunning, after all, it was of his lineage that built the tower of Babel. God already knew that Canaan’s descendants would become idolaters, and this was only a prophecy of what was to come. Many will say that this was when Noah fell away from God’s grace, but I disagree with that, he committed a sin, he did not keep doing it, and lived three hundred and fifty years after that happened. The just fall, and get back up, they do not stay down and keep living in sin, [For a just man falleth seven times, and riseth up again: but the wicked shall fall into mischief. – Proverbs 24:16]

Once we receive Christ as our Saviour we are new creatures, we are not to go back to our old ways, we to move forward in the fear of God. When I first got saved I did not really understand what that meant as I was brought up Catholic, and everything with them is all about works. I had to learn to separate religion from God’s Word, and they are not the same thing. When I finally decided to dedicate my life to Christ, I reconfirmed my faith in Christ and got baptized, according to God’s Word. I was eager and willing to learn, and trust me, made a lot of mistakes along the way, and still do, but it is a slow and steady walk, with the occasional trips and falls. We may not know everything that God wants us to know at first, but we do know that God expects us to learn His ways and what He expects from us, and not make up our own ways and say it is God, which us what happened once the people scattered the earth. They began establishing their own covenants and beliefs, of course, the most rebellious and influential were the Canaanites, in particular, a man named Nimrod.

[Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood. The sons of Japheth; Gomer, and Magog, and Madai, and Javan, and Tubal, and Meshech, and Tiras. By these were the isles of the Gentiles divided in their lands; every one after his tongue, after their families, in their nations. And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before the LORD: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before the LORD. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. – Genesis 10:1-2,5-6,8-10]

[He was a mighty hunter before the LORD:] Remember, God had told them that the beasts would fear them now, Nimrod was what you call these hunters that hunt animals for sport, I imagine his lineage as being something resembling neanderthals. Another interesting fact is that the people of Nineveh would come from Nimrod’s descendants, [Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, – Genesis 10:11]

It may seem boring and uncalled for to have all of these names to read throughout the Bible, but as you do read them you discover how the world unfolds into what it is today. These names play a key part in not only how God changed the way He would deal with man under a new law, but how He would establish a covenant with one man, who would make a nation of people that knew the only living God and lead others to follow. And as for that curse on Canaan’s descendants, well, you will begin to understand why Moses did it when you see who his descendants are, [And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth, And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad. – Genesis 10:15-18]

Each and every one of those descendants or tribes became idolatrous nations, and despised by God so much so that He would literally give this land to His people and tell them to destroy them. And here we come to the tower that they decided to build in Babel, which is why you can understand Noah cursing Canaan, [And the whole earth was of one language, and of one speech. And it came to pass, as they journeyed from the east, that they found a plain in the land of Shinar; and they dwelt there. And they said one to another, Go to, let us make brick, and burn them throughly. And they had brick for stone, and slime had they for morter. And they said, Go to, let us build us a city and a tower, whose top may reach unto heaven; and let us make us a name, lest we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth. – Genesis 11:1-4]

[whose top may reach unto heaven;] Notice that these people had no concern for God, they were the scientists of today who wanted to see what was outside of the earth, and claim a name for themselves. So many people believe in heaven, and even that they will be there when they die, but they do not want to do it God’s way. Sadly, due to the imaginations of their own hearts, people make up their own ideas on how to get there, but God knows their hearts and intentions. He literally came down from heaven Himself and confound them.

[And the LORD came down to see the city and the tower, which the children of men builded. And the LORD said, Behold, the people is one, and they have all one language; and this they begin to do: and now nothing will be restrained from them, which they have imagined to do. Go to, let us go down, and there confound their language, that they may not understand one another’s speech. So the LORD scattered them abroad from thence upon the face of all the earth: and they left off to build the city. Therefore is the name of it called Babel; because the LORD did there confound the language of all the earth: and from thence did the LORD scatter them abroad upon the face of all the earth. – Genesis 11:5-9]

[let us go down, and there confound their language,] Not only did God confine their speech by making several languages, which is also known as tongues, He confined their beliefs. And the “Us” He is talking to is the Godhead, His Son, and Holy Spirit, they always have been and they always will be individual persons, while all being God Himself, just in His different forms. This makes no sense to the unbeliever and half of believers, but God’s Word is actually like a foreign language to those who are not saved. He will actually only show us what it means through our faith, [And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. – Luke 8:10]

[which the children of men builded.] Notice that it says, “children of men.” These were not people who wanted God in their lives, and yet they believed in heaven and wanted to establish their own way of getting there. And how foolish where they to think that they could build a tower high enough that it would reach into heaven. And what exactly were they expecting to see if they managed to get that tower high enough to reach above the atmosphere? Well, science proves time and time again, that God will not reveal such mysteries to them because they have no intention of actually following God. And could you imagine what would happen if they were able to get to heaven by building a rocket capable of getting through to God’s home? They would ruin it, just like they are ruining the earth, [For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. – Romans 1:20-21]

Now, as we just read about the descendants of each of Noah’s three sons, a more detailed account is given to Shem’s, this is because Abraham would come from his lineage. In fact, before God even sent Abraham to Canaan, his father intended to go, [These are the generations of Shem: Shem was an hundred years old, and begat Arphaxad two years after the flood: And Eber lived four and thirty years, and begat Peleg: And Peleg lived thirty years, and begat Reu: And Reu lived two and thirty years, and begat Serug: And Serug lived thirty years, and begat Nahor: And Nahor lived nine and twenty years, and begat Terah: And Terah lived seventy years, and begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran. Now these are the generations of Terah: Terah begat Abram, Nahor, and Haran; and Haran begat Lot. And Terah took Abram his son, and Lot the son of Haran his son’s son, and Sarai his daughter in law, his son Abram’s wife; and they went forth with them from Ur of the Chaldees, to go into the land of Canaan; and they came unto Haran, and dwelt there. – Genesis 11:18,16,18,20,22,24,26-27,31]

[And Terah took Abram his son,] I just realized that Abraham’s father was on his way to Canaan with him before God had told him to separate himself from the family. Actually I read about this when I was going through a Sunday school lesson a few months back and we studied about Abraham. Haran was located in Mesopotamia, which was in Padanaram, I bring this up because this would be the place where Jacob would live when hiding from his brother Esau, and all his children were born. The more you read and study God’s Word the more you understand that God knows exactly what is going on, and even what is about to happen. We are just vessels playing our parts in His plan, some of us will do great things for God, while most will be used to show His judgment or wrath. Nevertheless, we have the freewill to choose what we believe, and while God would love to save all of mankind, that is up to each and every one of us.

[Nevertheless the foundation of God standeth sure, having this seal, The Lord knoweth them that are his. And, Let every one that nameth the name of Christ depart from iniquity. But in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth; and some to honour, and some to dishonour. If a man therefore purge himself from these, he shall be a vessel unto honour, sanctified, and meet for the master’s use, and prepared unto every good work. – 2 Timothy 2:19-21]

Let Us Pray: God, We know that the second we received Your Son as our Saviour that You established a covenant with us that promises that You will give us eternal life through Him. And as new creatures, we become Your children, and it is Your desire that we fear You and stay faithful to Your teachings so that we can teach them to our children. History gives us ample testimonies of how blessed or cursed we are as a nation based on our faithfulness to You. Lord, Give us Your power, wisdom, and guidance to learn Your ways, and give us Your mercy, and grace to live in obedience to Your Word so that our future has blessings to look forward to rather than curses. I love You, and pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
