Chapters: Isaiah 44-48
Message: Isaiah: There is No Other God
Hello My Friend,
As we continue in the reading of Isaiah, we learn that while God will always have a special place in His heart for the Jews, it is Israel that He calls His people, [Romans 9:6-8 Not as though the word of God hath taken none effect. For they are not all Israel, which are of Israel: 7 Neither, because they are the seed of Abraham, are they all children: but, In Isaac shall thy seed be called. 8 That is, They which are the children of the flesh, these are not the children of God: but the children of the promise are counted for the seed.]
We also learn that true worship begins with ones faith in God, and whether they believe in Him or not judgment is coming. He still gives all the opportunity to be saved from judgment, but will not hesitate to send reprobates to the same place where Satan and his demons are going, [Revelation 21:6-8 And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. 7 He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son. 8 But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.]
God, continues to address His grief over not only the children of Jacob (Israel), but Israel (God’s people) as well, who are both guilty of turning their back on Him or even worse, worshiping Him and idols at the same time. Now, God goes on to remind them that He is the one who chose them and formed them into who they were, and even gave them His name.
[Isaiah 44:1-4 Yet now hear, O Jacob my servant; and Israel, whom I have chosen: 2 Thus saith the LORD that made thee, and formed thee from the womb, which will help thee; Fear not, O Jacob, my servant; and thou, Jesurun, whom I have chosen. 3 For I will pour water upon him that is thirsty, and floods upon the dry ground: I will pour my Spirit upon thy seed, and my blessing upon thine offspring: 4 And they shall spring up as among the grass, as willows by the water courses.]
Water is a symbol of the Holy Spirit that comes into the thirsty soul of the one who receives Christ as their Saviour, it not only quenches its thirst, it is the living water that cleanses the soul and makes it perfect before God. Jesus, explains it this way, [John 4:10 Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink; thou wouldest have asked of him, and he would have given thee living water.]
[Jeshurun; Upright one.] Jeshurun is a symbolic name for Israel describing her as the upright one, meaning one whom has fully trusted in the LORD. God, is referring to the nation of Israel here, not the children of Israel (Jacob). God’s children are not born into His family through normal conception, but rather spiritually through their faith in Christ. God, actually explains this right here.
[Isaiah 44:5-8 One shall say, I am the LORD’S; and another shall call himself by the name of Jacob; and another shall subscribe with his hand unto the LORD, and surname himself by the name of Israel. 6 Thus saith the LORD the King of Israel, and his redeemer the LORD of hosts; I am the first, and I am the last; and beside me there is no God. 7 And who, as I, shall call, and shall declare it, and set it in order for me, since I appointed the ancient people? and the things that are coming, and shall come, let them shew unto them. 8 Fear ye not, neither be afraid: have not I told thee from that time, and have declared it? ye are even my witnesses. Is there a God beside me? yea, there is no God; I know not any.]
If there was ever a book for God to speak out about who He is it is Isaiah and He pulls all the stops out to make sure everyone understands that He is not only King to the nation of Israel, but their redeemer as well. The second that one accepts Christ as their Saviour they are reborn with the Spirit of God and that enables God to build them up into an image the resembles His Son as they walk with Him daily. Every person who receives Jesus Christ as their Saviour is a witness of God and He lives inside of them through the Holy Spirit, [1 John 5:9-11 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son. 10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son. 11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.]
Now, that cannot be said for those who create their own gods, and worship them as though they are living gods. Isaiah, goes on to address those who not only worship these man made gods, but create them, [Isaiah 44:9,12,16 They that make a graven image are all of them vanity; and their delectable things shall not profit; and they are their own witnesses; they see not, nor know; that they may be ashamed. 12 The smith with the tongs both worketh in the coals, and fashioneth it with hammers, and worketh it with the strength of his arms: yea, he is hungry, and his strength faileth: he drinketh no water, and is faint. 16 He burneth part thereof in the fire; with part thereof he eateth flesh; he roasteth roast, and is satisfied: yea, he warmeth himself, and saith, Aha, I am warm, I have seen the fire:]
Today, this is an example of agnostics who believe that there are supernatural beings in the world, but that they are within themselves. They may not make totem poles and statues to worship their gods, but they do create idols within themselves that actually bring God to give them up over to their own beliefs, which Isaiah goes on to address, [Isaiah 44:18-19 They have not known nor understood: for he hath shut their eyes, that they cannot see; and their hearts, that they cannot understand. 19 And none considereth in his heart, neither is there knowledge nor understanding to say, I have burned part of it in the fire; yea, also I have baked bread upon the coals thereof; I have roasted flesh, and eaten it: and shall I make the residue thereof an abomination? shall I fall down to the stock of a tree?]
In other words, God, has closed their spiritual vision from understanding that whatever god, religion, or idol they are believing is not real. Think about it, who in their right mind goes up to a statue, person, or figure and gets down on their knees and worships it? I mean it is one thing to think of yourself as a god and that everyone ought to bow down to you (that comes with its own problems), but it is another to idolize something or someone. Those who worship these man made gods are no better than those who create them because they too are void of the understanding that these gods are not real, []
One cannot say that they believe in God and His Word yet question the Scriptures. And who needs the Scriptures to believe? God, did not give His Word to the skeptics, He gave it to His people, and therefore God has shut the eyes of the ones who are actually called reprobates so they cannot see the truth. Why? They will never accept Him, let alone His Son. Through Isaiah, God goes on to explain how He saves and redeems His believers, [Isaiah 44:21-23 Remember these, O Jacob and Israel; for thou art my servant: I have formed thee; thou art my servant: O Israel, thou shalt not be forgotten of me. 22 I have blotted out, as a thick cloud, thy transgressions, and, as a cloud, thy sins: return unto me; for I have redeemed thee. 23 Sing, O ye heavens; for the LORD hath done it: shout, ye lower parts of the earth: break forth into singing, ye mountains, O forest, and every tree therein: for the LORD hath redeemed Jacob, and glorified himself in Israel.]
This is incredible, not only does God forgive our sin, through our faith in His Son alone, He blots it out forever. On top of that, should we somehow lose sight of Him and fall into an abyss of sin, He never gives up on us. One may die in their sin, but they will never lose their salvation because they are saved grace, [Ephesians 2:8-9 For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast.]
Nevertheless, that cannot be said for those who’s eyes are shut to the truth. God sees them as reprobates, beyond the hope of salvation. Therefore, He gives them up to their reprobate minds, [Isaiah 44:24-26 Thus saith the LORD, thy redeemer, and he that formed thee from the womb, I am the LORD that maketh all things; that stretcheth forth the heavens alone; that spreadeth abroad the earth by myself; 25 That frustrateth the tokens of the liars, and maketh diviners mad; that turneth wise men backward, and maketh their knowledge foolish; 26 That confirmeth the word of his servant, and performeth the counsel of his messengers; that saith to Jerusalem, Thou shalt be inhabited; and to the cities of Judah, Ye shall be built, and I will raise up the decayed places thereof:]
In other words, the wise have become fools, and since they clearly go against everything God stands for and care less about their soul, they will do more than die in their sin, they will spend an eternity in hell and the lake of fire, [Romans 1:22-24,28 Professing themselves to be wise, they became fools, 23 And changed the glory of the uncorruptible God into an image made like to corruptible man, and to birds, and fourfooted beasts, and creeping things. 24 Wherefore God also gave them up to uncleanness through the lusts of their own hearts, to dishonour their own bodies between themselves: 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient;]
It is a great blessing that we are saved by grace through our faith in Christ and not of our works because we would all fall short of saving ourselves by a long shot. Jesus, redeemed us and as long as we truly believe in the Gospel than there is nothing that can take our salvation away. And through Isaiah, God, goes on to further to remind us of that.
[Isaiah 45:1-5 Thus saith the LORD to his anointed, to Cyrus, whose right hand I have holden, to subdue nations before him; and I will loose the loins of kings, to open before him the two leaved gates; and the gates shall not be shut; 2 I will go before thee, and make the crooked places straight: I will break in pieces the gates of brass, and cut in sunder the bars of iron: 3 And I will give thee the treasures of darkness, and hidden riches of secret places, that thou mayest know that I, the LORD, which call thee by thy name, am the God of Israel. 4 For Jacob my servant’s sake, and Israel mine elect, I have even called thee by thy name: I have surnamed thee, though thou hast not known me. 5 I am the LORD, and there is none else, there is no God beside me: I girded thee, though thou hast not known me:]
Cyrus, is the King of Babylon or will be during the time that the Jews of Judah would end their seventy years of captivity in Babylon and would go back to Jerusalem to rebuild the temple under the direction of Cyrus, [Ezra 1:1-2]. God, would use him to help rebuild the temple in Jerusalem just as He used Nebuchadnezzar to send judgment on them. In other words, God, is saying that He will use anyone and everyone to get to His people, [Romans 9:22-23 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction: 23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,]
Think about it, before we knew God He already knew us, and predestined that we would become, not only His servants, but sons and daughters. However, that agreement becomes null and void should any reject Him, [Romans 8:29-30 For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren. 30 Moreover whom he did predestinate, them he also called: and whom he called, them he also justified: and whom he justified, them he also glorified.]
If God was angry with Israel for turning their backs on Him during the time that Isaiah was here, can you imagine His anger now? The same message by the way applies to all of Israel, not just the children of Israel. God, goes on to express His anger toward them for even questioning who He is.
[Isaiah 45:9-13 Woe unto him that striveth with his Maker! Let the potsherd strive with the potsherds of the earth. Shall the clay say to him that fashioneth it, What makest thou? or thy work, He hath no hands? 10 Woe unto him that saith unto his father, What begettest thou? or to the woman, What hast thou brought forth? 11 Thus saith the LORD, the Holy One of Israel, and his Maker, Ask me of things to come concerning my sons, and concerning the work of my hands command ye me. 12 I have made the earth, and created man upon it: I, even my hands, have stretched out the heavens, and all their host have I commanded. 13 I have raised him up in righteousness, and I will direct all his ways: he shall build my city, and he shall let go my captives, not for price nor reward, saith the LORD of hosts.]
God made things simple, there are two genders, period, male and female, we all know what gender we are born from birth. A man can choose alter his body to look like a woman, but no one can alter DNA, no matter how much they attempt to mimic God, [James 3:13-17 Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. 14 But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. 15 This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. 16 For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. 17 But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy.]
We need to understand that God has no problem with our coming to Him and asking Him, “Why?”, but what He does have a problem with is those who question Him. Remember, God’s ways and thoughts are much higher and broader than our own, so, those who question Him are actually striving with Him, and bring themselves to their own confusion.
[Isaiah 45:15-19 Verily thou art a God that hidest thyself, O God of Israel, the Saviour. 16 They shall be ashamed, and also confounded, all of them: they shall go to confusion together that are makers of idols. 17 But Israel shall be saved in the LORD with an everlasting salvation: ye shall not be ashamed nor confounded world without end. 18 For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else. 19 I have not spoken in secret, in a dark place of the earth: I said not unto the seed of Jacob, Seek ye me in vain: I the LORD speak righteousness, I declare things that are right.]
There is not one person who can say that God has not spelled everything out, or that His Word is outdated or cannot be understood. Granted, there are some obscure passages that can cause some bit of confusion until we learn of the meaning behind them, but God is not the author of confusion, He spells it all out, plain and simple.
[Isaiah 45:21-25 Tell ye, and bring them near; yea, let them take counsel together: who hath declared this from ancient time? who hath told it from that time? have not I the LORD? and there is no God else beside me; a just God and a Saviour; there is none beside me. 22 Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else. 23 I have sworn by myself, the word is gone out of my mouth in righteousness, and shall not return, That unto me every knee shall bow, every tongue shall swear. 24 Surely, shall one say, in the LORD have I righteousness and strength: even to him shall men come; and all that are incensed against him shall be ashamed. 25 In the LORD shall all the seed of Israel be justified, and shall glory.]
There is not one person who can say that God has not spelled everything out in regards to how they can be saved, or that His Word is outdated or cannot be understood. Granted, there are some obscure passages that can cause a bit of confusion until we learn of the meaning behind them, but God is not the author of confusion, He spells it all out, plain and simple, [1 Corinthians 14:33 For God is not the author of confusion, but of peace, as in all churches of the saints.]
[Isaiah 46:1-5 Bel boweth down, Nebo stoopeth, their idols were upon the beasts, and upon the cattle: your carriages were heavy loaden; they are a burden to the weary beast. 2 They stoop, they bow down together; they could not deliver the burden, but themselves are gone into captivity. 3 Hearken unto me, O house of Jacob, and all the remnant of the house of Israel, which are borne by me from the belly, which are carried from the womb: 4 And even to your old age I am he; and even to hoar hairs will I carry you: I have made, and I will bear; even I will carry, and will deliver you. 5 To whom will ye liken me, and make me equal, and compare me, that we may be like?]
This reminds me of what Jesus asked those who under the direction of John the baptist who was in prison at the time, [Matthew 11:8-10 But what went ye out for to see? A man clothed in soft raiment? behold, they that wear soft clothing are in kings’ houses. 9 But what went ye out for to see? A prophet? yea, I say unto you, and more than a prophet. 10 For this is he, of whom it is written, Behold, I send my messenger before thy face, which shall prepare thy way before thee.]
There is nothing written in the New Testament that has not already been written in the old. Let me tell you, God, does not need us to believe in Him, He knows who He is, and while it does grieve Him to see so many souls end up in hell because they are without knowledge, He will not bend His rule for anyone. Those who come to Him must come to Him for all that He is.
[Isaiah 46:9-13 Remember the former things of old: for I am God, and there is none else; I am God, and there is none like me, 10 Declaring the end from the beginning, and from ancient times the things that are not yet done, saying, My counsel shall stand, and I will do all my pleasure: 11 Calling a ravenous bird from the east, the man that executeth my counsel from a far country: yea, I have spoken it, I will also bring it to pass; I have purposed it, I will also do it. 12 Hearken unto me, ye stouthearted, that are far from righteousness: 13 I bring near my righteousness; it shall not be far off, and my salvation shall not tarry: and I will place salvation in Zion for Israel my glory.]
There is no God beside Jehovah! There is nothing done without Him. Do you think that God is pleased with those who make a mockery out of His very own creation? Cloning animals, abortion, changing ones gender, not to mention attempting to even mimic a man carrying a child in the womb. These are all things that anger God because what they are trying to do is make themselves a god.
[Isaiah 47:1-5 Come down, and sit in the dust, O virgin daughter of Babylon, sit on the ground: there is no throne, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called tender and delicate. 2 Take the millstones, and grind meal: uncover thy locks, make bare the leg, uncover the thigh, pass over the rivers. 3 Thy nakedness shall be uncovered, yea, thy shame shall be seen: I will take vengeance, and I will not meet thee as a man. 4 As for our redeemer, the LORD of hosts is his name, the Holy One of Israel. 5 Sit thou silent, and get thee into darkness, O daughter of the Chaldeans: for thou shalt no more be called, The lady of kingdoms.]
This is in regards to the fall of Babylon, they had most of Judah there for seventy years and saw miracle upon miracle yet still worshiped the stars and wold not give God the time of day.
[Isaiah 47:8-11 Therefore hear now this, thou that art given to pleasures, that dwellest carelessly, that sayest in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me; I shall not sit as a widow, neither shall I know the loss of children: 9 But these two things shall come to thee in a moment in one day, the loss of children, and widowhood: they shall come upon thee in their perfection for the multitude of thy sorceries, and for the great abundance of thine enchantments. 10 For thou hast trusted in thy wickedness: thou hast said, None seeth me. Thy wisdom and thy knowledge, it hath perverted thee; and thou hast said in thine heart, I am, and none else beside me. 11 Therefore shall evil come upon thee; thou shalt not know from whence it riseth: and mischief shall fall upon thee; thou shalt not be able to put it off: and desolation shall come upon thee suddenly, which thou shalt not know.]
We cannot escape God no matter how much we try, and we will all face Him one way or another, we might as well learn of Him now rather than later when we stand before Him. Through Isaiah, God reveals why He afflicts His people, it is not out of punishment, rather to clear His own name.
[Isaiah 48:1-2,9-11 Hear ye this, O house of Jacob, which are called by the name of Israel, and are come forth out of the waters of Judah, which swear by the name of the LORD, and make mention of the God of Israel, but not in truth, nor in righteousness. 2 For they call themselves of the holy city, and stay themselves upon the God of Israel; The LORD of hosts is his name. 9 For my name’s sake will I defer mine anger, and for my praise will I refrain for thee, that I cut thee not off. 10 Behold, I have refined thee, but not with silver; I have chosen thee in the furnace of affliction. 11 For mine own sake, even for mine own sake, will I do it: for how should my name be polluted? and I will not give my glory unto another.]
In order for us to truly come to the knowledge and truth about God and Jesus, we must go through the fire of affliction. Affliction is what humbles us and brings us to Christ, [2 Corinthians 7:9-11 Now I rejoice, not that ye were made sorry, but that ye sorrowed to repentance: for ye were made sorry after a godly manner, that ye might receive damage by us in nothing. 10 For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. 11 For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.]
Many have been brought home to God as chosen vessels, and a good work of grace begun in them, in the furnace of affliction. It is comfort to God’s people, that God will secure His own honor. God, has formed a plan, in which, for His own sake, and the glory of His grace, He saves all that come to Him.
[Isaiah 48:14-18,22 All ye, assemble yourselves, and hear; which among them hath declared these things? The LORD hath loved him: he will do his pleasure on Babylon, and his arm shall be on the Chaldeans. 15 I, even I, have spoken; yea, I have called him: I have brought him, and he shall make his way prosperous. 16 Come ye near unto me, hear ye this; I have not spoken in secret from the beginning; from the time that it was, there am I: and now the Lord GOD, and his Spirit, hath sent me. 17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go. 18 O that thou hadst hearkened to my commandments! then had thy peace been as a river, and thy righteousness as the waves of the sea: 22 There is no peace, saith the LORD, unto the wicked.]
Whom God redeems He teaches and then makes them partakers of His holiness. Also, by His grace He leads them in the way of duty; and by His providence He leads in the way of deliverance. God, did not afflict them willingly, if their sins had not turned them away, their peace should have been always flowing and abundant, [Romans 2:9-11 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God.]
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, There truly is no God besides You, I am so grateful that You saw my faith in You, and opened my heart so that I could become one of Yours. In a world full of man made gods, it is comforting to know that no religion, race, or even my own righteousness is necessary to save my soul, but You. You alone came here in the flesh, to redeem all who believe in Your perfect, sinless sacrifice, and that is enough for me. I am one of Yours because I believe in You and have accepted You as my Saviour. Lord, Lead me and guide me in Your will and way, keep my heart, eyes, and spirit always on You so the only thing I will ever fear is You. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
