Message: Isaiah: God’s Eternal Covenant
Hello My Friend,
As we continue in the reading of Isaiah we learn that God is no respecter of persons, Jew or Gentile, prince or pauper, He delights in those who call on Him. We may never understand God’s love for mankind, but I am pretty sure that if the devil goes through such lengths to destroy us and Jesus went through such a great length to save us that we are more valuable than we think, [Psalms 139:14-17 I will praise thee; for I am fearfully and wonderfully made: marvellous are thy works; and that my soul knoweth right well. 15 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!]
It truly is a thing of mystery just how much mercy and grace God has on us even before we get saved, and it really is endless for those whom are saved. Now, that does not mean that we do not face chastening for sin, but it does mean that God made a promise to never leave nor forsake us and is sticking to that promise. Through Isaiah, He goes on to encourage all to come to Him.
[Isaiah 54:1-4 Sing, O barren, thou that didst not bear; break forth into singing, and cry aloud, thou that didst not travail with child: for more are the children of the desolate than the children of the married wife, saith the LORD. 2 Enlarge the place of thy tent, and let them stretch forth the curtains of thine habitations: spare not, lengthen thy cords, and strengthen thy stakes; 3 For thou shalt break forth on the right hand and on the left; and thy seed shall inherit the Gentiles, and make the desolate cities to be inhabited. 4 Fear not; for thou shalt not be ashamed: neither be thou confounded; for thou shalt not be put to shame: for thou shalt forget the shame of thy youth, and shalt not remember the reproach of thy widowhood any more.]
God, sees those who choose Him as His bride, and while the world and even many Christians find this hard to comprehend the easiest way to understand it is to think of a marriage between a husband and wife, which by the way God is so adamant about protecting, [Genesis 2:23-24 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.]
In the same sense, those who receive Christ as their Saviour are one with Him. There are so many more people who are unsaved than saved and the sad truth is that many professing Christians are desolate of the Saviour because they are not one with Him. Jesus, said it this way, [John 4:35-36 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest. 36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.]
Speaking of sowing and reaping together, there will come a day when Jesus will gather all His people for a great harvest from the dead in Christ to the ones still on the earth when He returns. Through Isaiah, God reveals that while He may sometimes distance Himself from His unfaithful He will always remember the covenant He made with them and gather them also when the time comes.
[Isaiah 54:7-10 For a small moment have I forsaken thee; but with great mercies will I gather thee. 8 In a little wrath I hid my face from thee for a moment; but with everlasting kindness will I have mercy on thee, saith the LORD thy Redeemer. 9 For this is as the waters of Noah unto me: for as I have sworn that the waters of Noah should no more go over the earth; so have I sworn that I would not be wroth with thee, nor rebuke thee. 10 For the mountains shall depart, and the hills be removed; but my kindness shall not depart from thee, neither shall the covenant of my peace be removed, saith the LORD that hath mercy on thee.]
God, made the promise that He would never bring such a flood that would destroy the entire earth as He did during Noah’s days and the beautiful rainbow is a reminder of that, [Genesis 9:13-16 I do set my bow in the cloud, and it shall be for a token of a covenant between me and the earth. 14 And it shall come to pass, when I bring a cloud over the earth, that the bow shall be seen in the cloud: 15 And I will remember my covenant, which is between me and you and every living creature of all flesh; and the waters shall no more become a flood to destroy all flesh. 16 And the bow shall be in the cloud; and I will look upon it, that I may remember the everlasting covenant between God and every living creature of all flesh that is upon the earth.]
I never looked at it this way before, but it is God who reminds Himself not to destroy the earth with a flood when He sees the rainbow. Many will question this since we still have floods today, especially with what happened in North Carolina and recently in Texas, but God will never go back on His word. As Isaiah continues, God goes on to tell us of that glorious day in which He gathers all His people with another promise.
[Isaiah 54:13-17 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children. 14 In righteousness shalt thou be established: thou shalt be far from oppression; for thou shalt not fear: and from terror; for it shall not come near thee. 15 Behold, they shall surely gather together, but not by me: whosoever shall gather together against thee shall fall for thy sake. 16 Behold, I have created the smith that bloweth the coals in the fire, and that bringeth forth an instrument for his work; and I have created the waster to destroy. 17 No weapon that is formed against thee shall prosper; and every tongue that shall rise against thee in judgment thou shalt condemn. This is the heritage of the servants of the LORD, and their righteousness is of me, saith the LORD.]
In other words, all who receive Christ as their Saviour are established in His righteousness. These are some powerful promises that many have come to pass already and is proof that God will never go back on His word, [Titus 1:1-3 Paul, a servant of God, and an apostle of Jesus Christ, according to the faith of God’s elect, and the acknowledging of the truth which is after godliness; 2 In hope of eternal life, which God, that cannot lie, promised before the world began; 3 But hath in due times manifested his word through preaching, which is committed unto me according to the commandment of God our Saviour;]
If we have called on the LORD, Jesus Christ as our Saviour, fully trusting in Him alone for our salvation, then we belong to Him. Praise God that it is that simple! We are not perfect by a long shot, and mess up more times than we can count, but we are His, our righteousness comes from Him alone. We must understand that Jesus never denies anyone who comes to Him, even if they worshiped false gods at one time. Through Isaiah, God goes on to tell us that all are given every opportunity to be saved, He literally does call out to them.
[Isaiah 55:1-4 Ho, every one that thirsteth, come ye to the waters, and he that hath no money; come ye, buy, and eat; yea, come, buy wine and milk without money and without price. 2 Wherefore do ye spend money for that which is not bread? and your labour for that which satisfieth not? hearken diligently unto me, and eat ye that which is good, and let your soul delight itself in fatness. 3 Incline your ear, and come unto me: hear, and your soul shall live; and I will make an everlasting covenant with you, even the sure mercies of David. 4 Behold, I have given him for a witness to the people, a leader and commander to the people.]
God, Himself told David that He would bring His own Son into this world through his descendants, [2 Samuel 7:12,16 And when thy days be fulfilled, and thou shalt sleep with thy fathers, I will set up thy seed after thee, which shall proceed out of thy bowels, and I will establish his kingdom. 16 And thine house and thy kingdom shall be established for ever before thee: thy throne shall be established for ever.]
That everlasting covenant that He made with David is the same one that He makes with all who come to Him through His Son. When we come to Christ, and accept Him as our Saviour that is when His Spirit, the Holy Spirit, gives life to our soul, He quenches its thirst and feeds it forever, regardless of who we are. Through Isaiah, God, confirms how a once wicked person can be saved from hell.
[Isaiah 55:6-11 Seek ye the LORD while he may be found, call ye upon him while he is near: 7 Let the wicked forsake his way, and the unrighteous man his thoughts: and let him return unto the LORD, and he will have mercy upon him; and to our God, for he will abundantly pardon. 8 For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways, saith the LORD. 9 For as the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways, and my thoughts than your thoughts. 10 For as the rain cometh down, and the snow from heaven, and returneth not thither, but watereth the earth, and maketh it bring forth and bud, that it may give seed to the sower, and bread to the eater: 11 So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it.]
Thank God that His thoughts are much higher than our own because we would all be in hell right now. God does not see us as a color, race, shape, or size, we are beautiful souls that He has created, take away our skin and we are all flesh, blood, and water. We may not understand why God gave some souls bodies that are skinny, obese, lame, deaf, blind, or otherwise, but we can understand that He created us all for a purpose. Jesus,when asked why a man was born blind said this, [John 9:3-5 Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him. 4 I must work the works of him that sent me, while it is day: the night cometh, when no man can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.]
Regardless of our infirmities or what we look like on the outside, we are born sinners, and for that reason we need a Saviour to save our beautiful soul. Through Isaiah, God goes on to explain why He will save all who come to Him regardless of their sin.
[Isaiah 56:4-8 For thus saith the LORD unto the eunuchs that keep my sabbaths, and choose the things that please me, and take hold of my covenant; 5 Even unto them will I give in mine house and within my walls a place and a name better than of sons and of daughters: I will give them an everlasting name, that shall not be cut off. 6 Also the sons of the stranger, that join themselves to the LORD, to serve him, and to love the name of the LORD, to be his servants, every one that keepeth the sabbath from polluting it, and taketh hold of my covenant; 7 Even them will I bring to my holy mountain, and make them joyful in my house of prayer: their burnt offerings and their sacrifices shall be accepted upon mine altar; for mine house shall be called an house of prayer for all people. 8 The Lord GOD which gathereth the outcasts of Israel saith, Yet will I gather others to him, beside those that are gathered unto him.]
Do you see how God sees every person as a soul that needs to be saved? It does not matter if you are the president, the pope, the wealthiest person on the planet or the poorest person, Christ sees everyone as the same, a soul that needs to be saved. Those who put their faith and trust in Jesus Christ alone as their Saviour will also receive an everlasting name, [Revelation 2:17 He that hath an ear, let him hear what the Spirit saith unto the churches; To him that overcometh will I give to eat of the hidden manna, and will give him a white stone, and in the stone a new name written, which no man knoweth saving he that receiveth it.]
The world seeks everything that goes against what God stands for, immorality, idolatry, and witchcraft, are to name a few. Through Isaiah, God explains a rather touchy subject, death, and why the righteous, meaning His faithful who are saved sometimes die before their time.
[Isaiah 57:1-5 The righteous perisheth, and no man layeth it to heart: and merciful men are taken away, none considering that the righteous is taken away from the evil to come. 2 He shall enter into peace: they shall rest in their beds, each one walking in his uprightness. 3 But draw near hither, ye sons of the sorceress, the seed of the adulterer and the whore. 4 Against whom do ye sport yourselves? against whom make ye a wide mouth, and draw out the tongue? are ye not children of transgression, a seed of falsehood, 5 Enflaming yourselves with idols under every green tree, slaying the children in the valleys under the clifts of the rocks?]
In other words, we may not understand sudden death, but sometimes God uses it to keep His people from being caught up in something that is much worse to come. Those precious babies that die in the womb to never to see the world. Those little ones who die in the hands of the ones God trusted them with. Those precious people who die suddenly from car crashes, strokes, heart attacks, natural disasters, and losing their minds. These are all things that God uses to show His mercy upon His people. Through Isaiah, God goes on to remind us that we have eternity to look forward to.
[Isaiah 57:15-19 For thus saith the high and lofty One that inhabiteth eternity, whose name is Holy; I dwell in the high and holy place, with him also that is of a contrite and humble spirit, to revive the spirit of the humble, and to revive the heart of the contrite ones. 16 For I will not contend for ever, neither will I be always wroth: for the spirit should fail before me, and the souls which I have made. 17 For the iniquity of his covetousness was I wroth, and smote him: I hid me, and was wroth, and he went on frowardly in the way of his heart. 18 I have seen his ways, and will heal him: I will lead him also, and restore comforts unto him and to his mourners. 19 I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to him that is far off, and to him that is near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.]
[Contrite: Worn, bruised. Humble: Meek, modest,] There is the key right there and I tell you what, we might get weary, worn out, and bruised, and we may feel as though we are lost and confused, but we never give up hope because one day all of this will be over and we will be forever in peace with Jesus. I believe we all need this reminder today, [John 14:1-4 Let not your heart be troubled: ye believe in God, believe also in me. 2 In my Father’s house are many mansions: if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. 3 And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again, and receive you unto myself; that where I am, there ye may be also. 4 And whither I go ye know, and the way ye know.]
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, It is comforting and sometimes quite overwhelming to comprehend Your love for us, no matter how many times we mess up, how many times our faith lacks, or we want to give up on this life, You never leave nor forsake us. You do not limit Your love to just a few, You call everyone and accept all that believe in Your sinless death, burial, and resurrection as the only thing needed to be redeemed and know Your Father. Lord, since we are all work in progress, lead us and guide us, keep us close to You so we can endure every trial that comes our way. Let us trust in You alone and not our circumstances, trusting that Your ways are much higher than our own. I love You Jesus and pray this in Your name. Amen.
