Message: God Fearing Woman

Hello My Friend,

I was doing a Google search and came across a question that asked, “Did Eve eat an apple?” I do not know who came up with the image that it was an apple that Eve ate, but I know it was not an apple. How? Well, it was a fruit that was forbidden, if it were an apple, then we would not be eating apples today. Women have been getting a bad rap ever sin Eve took a bite of that forbidden fruit, especially since she convinced Adam to take a bite also. Which, by the way, was why Adam was the one at fault for causing the curse of death to all mankind, [Romans 5:12-14] And yes, since creation, women have had a great influence on men, the man craves the woman, and will do practically anything, as we have certainly learned, for his woman. After all, God did create the woman for the man, she is his help meet, companion, friend, and the love of his life. Now, imagine the influence that a God fearing woman has not only on her man, but everyone she comes in contact with. When the woman with the alabaster box of perfume came to Jesus and poured it on His feet even His disciples frowned upon it, but Jesus commended ad praised her for it, [Matthew 26:12-13  For in that she hath poured this ointment on my body, she did it for my burial.  13  Verily I say unto you, Wheresoever this gospel shall be preached in the whole world, there shall also this, that this woman hath done, be told for a memorial of her.]

After David and Saul parted ways Samuel died, David went to the memorial, and in his travels he came to the wilderness of Paran, he knew it well because he helped a man name Nabal that lived there. Nabal had problems with the Philistines and asked David to help him drive them away, he did, and as a result became a very rich. When David heard that Nabal was out shearing sheep he sent ten of his men to Nabal in hopes that he would send them some food and water, [1 Samuel 25:1-5  And Samuel died; and all the Israelites were gathered together, and lamented him, and buried him in his house at Ramah. And David arose, and went down to the wilderness of Paran.  2  And there was a man in Maon, whose possessions were in Carmel; and the man was very great, and he had three thousand sheep, and a thousand goats: and he was shearing his sheep in Carmel.  3  Now the name of the man was Nabal; and the name of his wife Abigail: and she was a woman of good understanding, and of a beautiful countenance: but the man was churlish and evil in his doings; and he was of the house of Caleb.  4  And David heard in the wilderness that Nabal did shear his sheep.  5  And David sent out ten young men, and David said unto the young men, Get you up to Carmel, and go to Nabal, and greet him in my name:]

[and she was a woman of good understanding,] This means that she was a smart, God fearing woman, and she was beautiful as well. [but the man was churlish and evil in his doings;] [Churlish; Rude; rough in temper; unfeeling; uncivil. Selfish; narrow-minded.] Nabal not only was selfish in that he did not help them, he was rude and asked like he never knew David, [1 Samuel 25:9-13  And when David’s young men came, they spake to Nabal according to all those words in the name of David, and ceased.  10  And Nabal answered David’s servants, and said, Who is David? and who is the son of Jesse? there be many servants now a days that break away every man from his master.  11  Shall I then take my bread, and my water, and my flesh that I have killed for my shearers, and give it unto men, whom I know not whence they be?  12  So David’s young men turned their way, and went again, and came and told him all those sayings.  13  And David said unto his men, Gird ye on every man his sword. And they girded on every man his sword; and David also girded on his sword: and there went up after David about four hundred men; and two hundred abode by the stuff.]

[whom I know not whence they be?] As Christians, we tend to be the ones who are always helping everyone else succeed, but then when we are trying to do something we are forgotten. Nevertheless, we cannot let them get to us, we need to trust that God is in control and will send us the help we need, when the time is right, and we are in the right mindset, [Matthew 6:31-33  Therefore take no thought, saying, What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink? or, Wherewithal shall we be clothed?  32  (For after all these things do the Gentiles seek:) for your heavenly Father knoweth that ye have need of all these things.  33  But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness; and all these things shall be added unto you.]

[What shall we eat? or, What shall we drink?] This actually came to my mind as I was praying this morning, God certainly knows who we are, and has a way of answering our prayers and taking care of us. Now, David became angry, so angry that he was about to take out Nabal, and the whole herd, but one of Nabal’s servants ran to Abigail and told her what Nabal had done. She was quick to go to David, even if that meant she lost her own life.

[1 Samuel 25:14,18,20,23-24  But one of the young men told Abigail, Nabal’s wife, saying, Behold, David sent messengers out of the wilderness to salute our master; and he railed on them. 18  Then Abigail made haste, and took two hundred loaves, and two bottles of wine, and five sheep ready dressed, and five measures of parched corn, and an hundred clusters of raisins, and two hundred cakes of figs, and laid them on asses.  20  And it was so, as she rode on the ass, that she came down by the covert of the hill, and, behold, David and his men came down against her; and she met them.  23  And when Abigail saw David, she hasted, and lighted off the ass, and fell before David on her face, and bowed herself to the ground, 24  And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid.]

[upon me let this iniquity be:] When I read this I thought about Jesus and how He lays upon Himself all of our inequity, He literally placed His life in front of the sword of God’s wrath, and stopped Him from destroying those who put their faith and trust in Him, [Titus 2:13-14  Looking for that blessed hope, and the glorious appearing of the great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ;  14  Who gave himself for us, that he might redeem us from all iniquity, and purify unto himself a peculiar people, zealous of good works.]

We must understand that when we are faithful to God, He is faithful to us, and will always take care of us, anyone who denies us, is actually denying God. Abigail, pleads with David not to make such a rash decision, after all, she too knew that he would be king, and that he would be a much better man than Nabal for not acting in such haste, [1 Samuel 25:26,28.30-31  Now therefore, my lord, as the LORD liveth, and as thy soul liveth, seeing the LORD hath withholden thee from coming to shed blood, and from avenging thyself with thine own hand, now let thine enemies, and they that seek evil to my lord, be as Nabal.  28  I pray thee, forgive the trespass of thine handmaid: for the LORD will certainly make my lord a sure house; because my lord fighteth the battles of the LORD, and evil hath not been found in thee all thy days.  30  And it shall come to pass, when the LORD shall have done to my lord according to all the good that he hath spoken concerning thee, and shall have appointed thee ruler over Israel;  31  That this shall be no grief unto thee, nor offence of heart unto my lord, either that thou hast shed blood causeless, or that my lord hath avenged himself: but when the LORD shall have dealt well with my lord, then remember thine handmaid.]

[then remember thine handmaid.] This is another marriage proposal, of course, for after her husband dies. God definitely interceded by sending Abigail to David. By her stopping him she gave him time to cool down and not make such a rash decision. David wrote this Psalm as reminder that he can go to God, with every request, even the wicked, [Psalms 140:6-10  I said unto the LORD, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD.  7  O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle.  8  Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Selah.  9  As for the head of those that compass me about, let the mischief of their own lips cover them.  10  Let burning coals fall upon them: let them be cast into the fire; into deep pits, that they rise not up again.]

[Let burning coals fall upon them:] Do not think that people did not know what hell was before Jesus came here in the flesh, they were just as afraid of it as we are today. When I was younger, I grew up Catholic, we certainly knew that hell was real, and sin would take us there. And we did know that Jesus died on the cross. What we did not know was that we needed to ask Jesus to save us as to not end up in hell. In fact, we were taught that we could not get into heaven at all, but would go to purgatory and someone living would pay our way into heaven by giving tithe to the church. What a waste of peoples lives! There is no such thing as purgatory, and there is only one person who can pay our way into heaven, and that is Jesus Christ. He paid the sin debt we owe when He died on that cross! And, He is certainly no longer on the cross or in the grave! [Romans 10:8-10  But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;  9  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.]

Abigail’s intercession stopped David from making one rash decision that would have caused problems for him. Since he was known for being a man of integrity this would have made things worse for him. We ought to never become offended or become defensive by those who come to us with their concerns. There is a difference between judging someone and addressing them with concern, and if we are honest with ourselves, we all have been guilty of making judgment without fully knowing the situation.

[1 Samuel 25:32-33,36-39  And David said to Abigail, Blessed be the LORD God of Israel, which sent thee this day to meet me:  33  And blessed be thy advice, and blessed be thou, which hast kept me this day from coming to shed blood, and from avenging myself with mine own hand. 36  And Abigail came to Nabal; and, behold, he held a feast in his house, like the feast of a king; and Nabal’s heart was merry within him, for he was very drunken: wherefore she told him nothing, less or more, until the morning light.  37  But it came to pass in the morning, when the wine was gone out of Nabal, and his wife had told him these things, that his heart died within him, and he became as a stone.  38  And it came to pass about ten days after, that the LORD smote Nabal, that he died.  39  And when David heard that Nabal was dead, he said, Blessed be the LORD, that hath pleaded the cause of my reproach from the hand of Nabal, and hath kept his servant from evil: for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head. And David sent and communed with Abigail, to take her to him to wife. 43  David also took Ahinoam of Jezreel; and they were also both of them his wives.  44  But Saul had given Michal his daughter, David’s wife, to Phalti the son of Laish, which was of Gallim.]

[for the LORD hath returned the wickedness of Nabal upon his own head.]

David thanked God for dealing with Nabal, in fact, God did actually handle him just as David prayed in that prayer. And as promised, David did not forget Abigail, after Nabal died, he took her as his wife. This Psalm was probably written to account for God using Abigail to intercede in this whole situation, [Psalms 141:3-10  Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips.  4  Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties.  5  Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.  6  When their judges are overthrown in stony places, they shall hear my words; for they are sweet.  7  Our bones are scattered at the grave’s mouth, as when one cutteth and cleaveth wood upon the earth.  8  But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; leave not my soul destitute.  9  Keep me from the snares which they have laid for me, and the gins of the workers of iniquity.  10  Let the wicked fall into their own nets, whilst that I withal escape.]

[Let the righteous smite me;] A little rebuke from God fearing women goes a long way, and while women are the weaker sex in that they are influenced more easily. And I did not say it, the Bible does, [1 Peter 3:7]. Never underestimate the power that a woman of God has on the world itself. God has a great deal of respect for women, [Proverbs 31:30-31  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.  31  Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.]

Jesus Christ Magnified: [1 Samuel 25:24  And fell at his feet, and said, Upon me, my lord, upon me let this iniquity be: and let thine handmaid, I pray thee, speak in thine audience, and hear the words of thine handmaid.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for my salvation by grace through my faith and acceptance of Your Son alone as my Saviour. I do not have to do anything to merit salvation or keep it, I just have to believe in Christ’s sinless death, burial, and resurrection, and accept that He is the payment for my sin debt. My greatest success is not how much I gain in this world, it is what I will gain in Your world. I know I have made some rash decisions before, but You never fail to show me the error of my ways, and get me right back in Your will. Lord, Thou art my God: hear the voice of my supplications, O LORD. O GOD the Lord, the strength of my salvation, thou hast covered my head in the day of battle. Grant not, O LORD, the desires of the wicked: further not his wicked device; lest they exalt themselves. Set a watch, O LORD, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities. But mine eyes are unto thee, O GOD the Lord: in thee is my trust; And I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
