Message: Flesh And Blood

Hello My Friend,

[Atonement; Expiation [The act of atoning for a crime]; Satisfaction or reparation made by giving an equivalent for an injury, or by suffering that which is received in satisfaction for an offense or injury. The expiation of sin made by the obedience and personal sufferings of Christ.]. We need to give a great deal of thanks to Jesus for becoming the sacrifice we need for permanent atonement. As I was reading the chapters for today, this passage came to mind, [John 6:54-57  Whoso eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, hath eternal life; and I will raise him up at the last day.  55  For my flesh is meat indeed, and my blood is drink indeed.  56  He that eateth my flesh, and drinketh my blood, dwelleth in me, and I in him.  57  As the living Father hath sent me, and I live by the Father: so he that eateth me, even he shall live by me.]

When the people heard Jesus tell them that they needed to eat His flesh and drink His blood in order to live they were actually disgusted by that, many even stopped believing. You see, they were thinking literally, but Jesus of course, was speaking spiritually. The reason Jesus spoke this way has to do with the Law that God had given Moses to make an atonement for their sin. The Book of Leviticus contains twenty-seven chapters, the timeline for is approximately 1490 B.C. The author of the book is Moses, and it was written to Israel. This book was a manual of worship for Israel, it was provided to give them instructions on how a sinner could have fellowship with God. The purpose of the book was to show Israel how to live as a holy nation in fellowship with God and to extend God’s plan of redemption to all nations. What we are to learn from the book is that God only accepts the offerings of those who come to Him, [Leviticus 1:3  If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.]

We read a lot about God’s faithful offering up lambs and goats to give honor to God before He gave the Law to Moses, but it was really not until God gave the Law that there was an actual law regarding the offerings. God did not give His Word to those who did not believe in Him, and He did not give it to the ones who pick and choose what they want to believe about Him. He gave it to the believers, those who willingly come to Him, by faith, and actually want more than just to be fed from the blessings that God gives those who do. Even though salvation is now given by grace through our faith alone in Christ, a flesh and blood sacrifice has always necessary for a soul that sinned and wanted atonement. Now, that the Tabernacle was complete, and God’s glory rested in the back of the tent, it was time for God to give the rules regarding the sacrifices.

[Leviticus 1:1-5,10,14  And the LORD called unto Moses, and spake unto him out of the tabernacle of the congregation, saying,  2  Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, If any man of you bring an offering unto the LORD, ye shall bring your offering of the cattle, even of the herd, and of the flock.  3  If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.  4  And he shall put his hand upon the head of the burnt offering; and it shall be accepted for him to make atonement for him. 5  And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD: and the priests, Aaron’s sons, shall bring the blood, and sprinkle the blood round about upon the altar that is by the door of the tabernacle of the congregation. 10  And if his offering be of the flocks, namely, of the sheep, or of the goats, for a burnt sacrifice; he shall bring it a male without blemish. 14  And if the burnt sacrifice for his offering to the LORD be of fowls, then he shall bring his offering of turtledoves, or of young pigeons.]

[And he shall kill the bullock before the LORD:] I have been reading this for years, and this is the first time that I realized that it was the person bringing the offering that killed the sacrifice. The priests were the ones who took the blood and brought it to the altar before God. Notice that the animals were cows, lambs, and even birds, this is because God gave everyone, regardless of their wealth, the opportunity to come to Him for atonement. This is literally the sinner coming to God willingly with the sacrifice, and taking its life in the place of their own. And this is what we do when we come to Jesus, only with Him only one sacrifice is necessary, [Hebrews 10:12-14  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  13  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.  14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.]

First, we need the blood to atone for our sin, then we need the bread to give life to our soul. In addition to the animal sacrifice was a meat offering, this is actually bread. Now God gives the command of the meat offering. [Leviticus 2:1-4,11  And when any will offer a meat offering unto the LORD, his offering shall be of fine flour; and he shall pour oil upon it, and put frankincense thereon:  2  And he shall bring it to Aaron’s sons the priests: and he shall take thereout his handful of the flour thereof, and of the oil thereof, with all the frankincense thereof; and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar, to be an offering made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD:  3  And the remnant of the meat offering shall be Aaron’s and his sons’: it is a thing most holy of the offerings of the LORD made by fire.  4  And if thou bring an oblation of a meat offering baken in the oven, it shall be unleavened cakes of fine flour mingled with oil, or unleavened wafers anointed with oil. 11  No meat offering, which ye shall bring unto the LORD, shall be made with leaven: for ye shall burn no leaven, nor any honey, in any offering of the LORD made by fire.]

[and the priest shall burn the memorial of it upon the altar,] The oil and the frankincense had to be a part of this otherwise, God would not have accepted the offering. Think about this, the oil was used for light, and the frankincense for burial, the flour being the flesh. This is a refection of Jesus who gave His flesh on the altar, the oil is His blood, and frankincense sent up that sweet smell to God for atonement. When we come to Christ we partake of His blood and flesh, and this is why we observe the Lord’s Supper often, it is a reminder of what Christ did for us and why we are saved, [I Corinthians 11:24-27  And when he had given thanks, he brake it, and said, Take, eat: this is my body, which is broken for you: this do in remembrance of me.  25  After the same manner also he took the cup, when he had supped, saying, This cup is the new testament in my blood: this do ye, as oft as ye drink it, in remembrance of me.  26  For as often as ye eat this bread, and drink this cup, ye do shew the Lord’s death till he come.  27  Wherefore whosoever shall eat this bread, and drink this cup of the Lord, unworthily, shall be guilty of the body and blood of the Lord.]

Now, once the atonement was made, it was time to make peace with God, and that would be the peace offering, it was of animal flesh, and could be an unblemished male or female. This was an offering given after the sin and meat offerings for one to be able to fellowship with God. [Leviticus 3:1,7-11  And if his oblation be a sacrifice of peace offering, if he offer it of the herd; whether it be a male or female, he shall offer it without blemish before the LORD. 7  If he offer a lamb for his offering, then shall he offer it before the LORD.  8  And he shall lay his hand upon the head of his offering, and kill it before the tabernacle of the congregation: and Aaron’s sons shall sprinkle the blood thereof round about upon the altar.  9  And he shall offer of the sacrifice of the peace offering an offering made by fire unto the LORD; the fat thereof, and the whole rump, it shall he take off hard by the backbone; and the fat that covereth the inwards, and all the fat that is upon the inwards,  10  And the two kidneys, and the fat that is upon them, which is by the flanks, and the caul above the liver, with the kidneys, it shall he take away.  11  And the priest shall burn it upon the altar: it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD.]

[it is the food of the offering made by fire unto the LORD.] The peace offering was food specifically for God, and since atonement was made, this offering was accepted by Him. It is also known as the bread of God. The fat, the best or richest part of the animal, this was offered solely to God. The blood, is the life of any living person or animal, therefore, God would not permit the blood that made atonement to be used as a common thing for them, nor does He allow us. This taught the Jews to observe the distinction between common and sacred things, and it kept them separate from idolaters. Today, through Christ, as the Prince of peace, we make peace with God through His blood on the cross. Only through Christ can we have peace with God and be able to fellowship with Him, [Philippians 4:7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.]

As I have always said, ignorance saves no one, we are all guilty of sin, everyone from the pastors of the Church to the toddler is guilty of sin, even if we have not idea what that sin is. Through Moses, God gives the commands concerning the sacrifices when someone sins through ignorance, [Leviticus 4:2-6  Speak unto the children of Israel, saying, If a soul shall sin through ignorance against any of the commandments of the LORD concerning things which ought not to be done, and shall do against any of them:  3  If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people; then let him bring for his sin, which he hath sinned, a young bullock without blemish unto the LORD for a sin offering.  4  And he shall bring the bullock unto the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD; and shall lay his hand upon the bullock’s head, and kill the bullock before the LORD.  5  And the priest that is anointed shall take of the bullock’s blood, and bring it to the tabernacle of the congregation:  6  And the priest shall dip his finger in the blood, and sprinkle of the blood seven times before the LORD, before the vail of the sanctuary.]

[If the priest that is anointed do sin according to the sin of the people;] We will all stand before Jesus, unless we are reprobates, God gives all the opportunity to know who His Son is and what we need to do to atone and make peace with God. Religion does not save us, our own righteousness does not save us, even if we were to sacrifice our own lives, it would not save us. We must receive Christ as our Saviour in order to atone for our sins and make peace with God. Since we can do nothing on our own to save our soul, and Christ is the only way, the best thing we can do to give thanks to Jesus for all that He has done is by becoming a living sacrifice, [Romans 12:1-2  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service.  2  And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.]

Jesus Christ Magnified: [Leviticus 1:3  If his offering be a burnt sacrifice of the herd, let him offer a male without blemish: he shall offer it of his own voluntary will at the door of the tabernacle of the congregation before the LORD.]

Today’s Prayer: God, You sent Your Son to give us a way to not only fellowship with You, but be with You for eternity. Our sins are what cause us to be separated from You, but Jesus made atonement, and peace possible and permanent at the cross. I will never forget what You have done for me, but I know at times I take for granted what a sacrifice You have made for me. Lord, forgive me where I have failed You, I give myself to You as a living sacrifice, all that I have is Yours, do what You will with it, and let me be the salt that seasons the world with Your Son. Show me what to do, keep me looking to You, and help me keep You first above all things. In ask these things in Your name, Jesus, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
