Message: Delivered From Death

Hello My Friend,

All I kept thinking about as I read the chapters for today was just how much God keeps His promises to us, even when we fail Him time and time again. Amen! We can mess up a thousand times a day, and yet, our Father is faithful and just to not only forgive us of our unrighteousness when we confess it, He will give us everything He promises. Praise God! Over the past few days I come to a great understanding of why Paul said, “For that which I do I allow not: for what I would, that do I not; but what I hate, that do I. If then I do that which I would not, I consent unto the law that it is good. Now then it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. For I know that in me (that is, in my flesh,) dwelleth no good thing: for to will is present with me; but how to perform that which is good I find not. For the good that I would I do not: but the evil which I would not, that I do. Now if I do that I would not, it is no more I that do it, but sin that dwelleth in me. O wretched man that I am! who shall deliver me from the body of this death? I thank God through Jesus Christ our Lord. So then with the mind I myself serve the law of God; but with the flesh the law of sin.” – Romans 7:15-20,24-25.

What Paul is saying here is that our flesh is weak, the things we know not to do are the very things that we end up doing, simply because we tend to lead with our flesh more than we care to admit. And this has nothing to do with our being born with sin nature, it has everything to do with the choices we make. For instance, I know I cannot have pizza made with flour, and no matter how many times I tell God I will not eat it again because I know it will hurt me physically for days, I still buy it because it is inexpensive, and my family can eat on it for days. If I buy gluten free, we barely get one meal, and it hurts me anyway because of cross contamination. This may not be sin to one person, but to me it is because I know not to eat it, but do so anyway.

So, we have choices to make, and not necessarily to suit our own needs, but others needs as well. We can thank Jesus that this wretched flesh of ours gets a pardon from death, and it is not something that we work for, it is a promise from God, through our faith in Him alone. This is a great reminder also that eternal life is a gift given to us through our faith in Christ alone, and not of our works. “Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God;” – Romans 3:22-25.

The Israelites had their fair share of run ins with God, and while He did chasten them, He never backed out on His promise to give every one of the nine and a half tribes, a portion of land that would be known as Israel. We already learned of the land that the people of Judah, Ephraim, Manasseh, and Benjamin received, Chapter 19 of the Book of Joshua gives an account to the rest of the tribes, including what Joshua himself was given.

And the second lot came forth to Simeon, even for the tribe of the children of Simeon according to their families: and their inheritance was within the inheritance of the children of Judah. Out of the portion of the children of Judah was the inheritance of the children of Simeon: for the part of the children of Judah was too much for them: therefore the children of Simeon had their inheritance within the inheritance of them. And the seventh lot came out for the tribe of the children of Dan according to their families. And the coast of the children of Dan went out too little for them: therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem, and took it, and smote it with the edge of the sword, and possessed it, and dwelt therein, and called Leshem, Dan, after the name of Dan their father. When they had made an end of dividing the land for inheritance by their coasts, the children of Israel gave an inheritance to Joshua the son of Nun among them: According to the word of the LORD they gave him the city which he asked, even Timnathserah in mount Ephraim: and he built the city, and dwelt therein.” – Joshua 19:1,9,40,47,49-50.

Out of the portion of the children of Judah” Did you know that all God’s saints, that means all whom have received His Son, Jesus Christ as Saviour, receive part of the inheritance God has given to Him? Every person, regardless of what they have done past, present, or future, who believes in and accepts that Jesus alone is their salvation from death and hell, receives an inheritance, (I Corinthians 6:9-11). “therefore the children of Dan went up to fight against Leshem,” Other than Judah, the people of Dan are the only ones who did what they were commanded to do, they got rid of the people of the land. Interestingly, they would become one of the first tribes to fall into idol worship, (Judges 18). This proves that we do not lose our inheritance, even if we were to get caught up in sin. This is not to say that we ought to be living in sin, it is to say, that while there is always a price to pay for sin while we have breath in us, that is not what saves us, our faith in Christ alone saves us. “All things are lawful unto me, but all things are not expedient: all things are lawful for me, but I will not be brought under the power of any. What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Corinthians 6:12,19-20.

We were bought with a price, Christ’s blood, therefore, we who are saved ought to be living our lives to please God and not our flesh. That means there are some things that we must give up in order to keep our body, mind, and spirit pure. We must admit, our mind, body, and spirit is not always pure. Do you see how people are behaving through this pandemic? The coveting, greed, selfishness, ill will toward the president, Christians, and conservatives. Not to mention the panic, doubts, fears, anxieties, and depression that is going on through all this. This is what grace is for by the way, and the reason why we need to come to Christ daily. He is the one who can pick us up should we fall. Now, after the Israelites received their inheritance, they were reminded that six of cites were to be used as cities of refuge.

Speak to the children of Israel, saying, Appoint out for you cities of refuge, whereof I spake unto you by the hand of Moses: That the slayer that killeth any person unawares and unwittingly may flee thither: and they shall be your refuge from the avenger of blood. And when he that doth flee unto one of those cities shall stand at the entering of the gate of the city, and shall declare his cause in the ears of the elders of that city, they shall take him into the city unto them, and give him a place, that he may dwell among them. And if the avenger of blood pursue after him, then they shall not deliver the slayer up into his hand; because he smote his neighbour unwittingly, and hated him not beforetime. And he shall dwell in that city, until he stand before the congregation for judgment, and until the death of the high priest that shall be in those days: then shall the slayer return, and come unto his own city, and unto his own house, unto the city from whence he fled. And they appointed Kedesh in Galilee in mount Naphtali, and Shechem in mount Ephraim, and Kirjatharba, which is Hebron, in the mountain of Judah.” – Joshua 20:2-7.

because he smote his neighbour unwittingly,” Remember, the cities of refuge were for people who accidentally killed someone, if someone was killed maliciously, then their offender would be found and held accountable. We are all guilty of a crime, sin, and it does not matter what we have done, the punishment for that crime is the same for all, death. There is no escape, no refuge, we will all be held accountable for what we have done. But wait. There is an escape, a refuge, one who will take responsibility for what we have done, and that is Jesus Christ. “For when ye were the servants of sin, ye were free from righteousness. What fruit had ye then in those things whereof ye are now ashamed? for the end of those things is death. But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.” – Romans 6:20-23.

Remember, when we accept Christ as our Saviour, we inheritance more than eternal life, we inherit Christ Himself. He sets us free from our sin, He removes the sin, the shame, and the guilt through our faith in Him alone. Now, one tribe did not receive an inheritance of the land, and that was the Levites. Why? Their inheritance was God Himself, and He would take care of them through the other tribes.

Then came near the heads of the fathers of the Levites unto Eleazar the priest, and unto Joshua the son of Nun, and unto the heads of the fathers of the tribes of the children of Israel; And they spake unto them at Shiloh in the land of Canaan, saying, The LORD commanded by the hand of Moses to give us cities to dwell in, with the suburbs thereof for our cattle. And the children of Israel gave unto the Levites out of their inheritance, at the commandment of the LORD, these cities and their suburbs. All the cities of the Levites within the possession of the children of Israel were forty and eight cities with their suburbs. These cities were every one with their suburbs round about them: thus were all these cities. And the LORD gave unto Israel all the land which he sware to give unto their fathers; and they possessed it, and dwelt therein. And the LORD gave them rest round about, according to all that he sware unto their fathers: and there stood not a man of all their enemies before them; the LORD delivered all their enemies into their hand. There failed not ought of any good thing which the LORD had spoken unto the house of Israel; all came to pass.” – Joshua 21:1-3,41-45.

were forty and eight cities with their suburbs.” Each tribe gave the Levites four cities, the Levites were not there to be one of them, they were to provide spiritual guidance to them so they did not have to wait until they got to the tabernacle (temple) to seek counsel from God. This is why God’s ministers live among those in the world. We are not to become one of them, we are to lead them to Christ and the ways of God. “Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.” – James 4:14-17.

Today’s Prayer: God, I have determined that come the choice of whether or not I live to please You or others, I am choosing to live a life that please You, even if that means I need to give up some things. You are my Rock, my Refuge, the one who saved me by grace through my faith in Your Son alone. Thank You, for standing to Your promises, and saving a sinner like me. This flesh, this wretched flesh of mine, knows what not to do, and yet it does it anyway, but I do not have to fear death because I have been pardoned by Your Son. The life I live now compels me to be a vessel of honor, to do things that only bring glory to You. Lord, Lead me and guide me, fill me with Your power, mercies, and grace, put Your hedge of protection around me, and help me make the right decisions so that I might live my days here on earth giving honor and glory to You and showing the world that eternal life begins with Your Son. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
