Chapters: Song of Solomon 1-4
Message: For The Love Of Christ
Hello My Friend,
The Book of Song of Solomon contains eight chapters, the author is King Solomon and it was written to his bride and all believers. The timeline is approximately 1014 BC. The purpose of the book is to show the intimate relationship between Jesus and the Church as demonstrated by the intimate marriage relationship between a husband and wife. What we are to learn from the book is that the divine model of love between a man and his wife is the pattern for a relationship between Christ (Man) and the Church (His Bride). “My beloved is mine, and I am his: he feedeth among the lilies.” – Song of Solomon 2:16.
There truly is something incredible when we realize how much Jesus loves us, and exactly what He has done to show His love for us. While we will never fully comprehend what Jesus has done for us, we accept and trust Him, giving our love back as we conform to His image. Yet, more often than we care to admit, we neglect Him, leaving Him to grab for our attention. Song of Solomon begins with Solomon’s bride and her love for her bridegroom, she anticipates the day she becomes his wife, but realizes something, she has neglected him.
“Let him kiss me with the kisses of his mouth: for thy love is better than wine. Because of the savour of thy good ointments thy name is as ointment poured forth, therefore do the virgins love thee. Draw me, we will run after thee: the king hath brought me into his chambers: we will be glad and rejoice in thee, we will remember thy love more than wine: the upright love thee. I am black, but comely, O ye daughters of Jerusalem, as the tents of Kedar, as the curtains of Solomon. Look not upon me, because I am black, because the sun hath looked upon me: my mother’s children were angry with me; they made me the keeper of the vineyards; but mine own vineyard have I not kept. Tell me, O thou whom my soul loveth, where thou feedest, where thou makest thy flock to rest at noon: for why should I be as one that turneth aside by the flocks of thy companions?” – Song of Solomon 1:2-7.
“we will remember thy love more than wine:” Of all the things we will receive in this life, nothing will be more important or cherished than the love of Christ for His bride. We may neglect Him from time to time, but His love for us never diminishes. The soul who lives nearest to Jesus in sweet communion with Him will feel convicted when it discovers the sin in its life, but rejoice in the fact that it is one with Jesus and He never leaves them. “What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own? For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God’s.” – I Corinthians 6:19,20.
The white lily, pure, and delicate, is a genus of plants of many species, it produces bell-shaped, white flowers with streaks of pink in them. Its beauty and fragrance foreshadow Jesus Christ to His Church. We see here, the special attention made of the lily.
“I am the rose of Sharon, and the lily of the valleys. As the lily among thorns, so is my love among the daughters. As the apple tree among the trees of the wood, so is my beloved among the sons. I sat down under his shadow with great delight, and his fruit was sweet to my taste. He brought me to the banqueting house, and his banner over me was love. Stay me with flagons, comfort me with apples: for I am sick of love. His left hand is under my head, and his right hand doth embrace me.” – Song of Solomon 2:1-6.
“and his banner over me was love.” One day will see just how much Christ’s love has protected us. His believers are beautiful in His eyes, clothed in His righteousness, adorned with the graces of His Spirit and they thrive only in the bosom of their Saviour. Those whose hearts are filled with the love of Christ and the hope of heaven are rejoicing in Him and longing for the day they get to join Him at the wedding feast. “And I John saw the holy city, new Jerusalem, coming down from God out of heaven, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband. And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God. And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.” – Revelation 21:2-4.
The soul, you cannot see it or touch it physically, but you definitely know it is there. A lonely soul is probably the most noticeable as it never rests until it finds it’s one true source of happiness. We get an illustration of the brides lonely soul seeking her one true love.
“By night on my bed I sought him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. I will rise now, and go about the city in the streets, and in the broad ways I will seek him whom my soul loveth: I sought him, but I found him not. The watchmen that go about the city found me: to whom I said, Saw ye him whom my soul loveth? King Solomon made himself a chariot of the wood of Lebanon. He made the pillars thereof of silver, the bottom thereof of gold, the covering of it of purple, the midst thereof being paved with love, for the daughters of Jerusalem. Go forth, O ye daughters of Zion, and behold king Solomon with the crown wherewith his mother crowned him in the day of his espousals, and in the day of the gladness of his heart.” – Song of Solomon 3:1-3,9-11.
“crowned him in the day of his espousals,” We will all receive crowns the day we stand before our bridegroom, some will receive more than others, but all will receive a crown of righteousness that allows us to stand before Him. When a man and woman become husband and wife they become one flesh, their two souls are joined together as one flesh, in other words, they become soul mates. When one soul is away from the other it feels alone and disconnected from the other, longing for the day it can reunite with its love. Jesus rejoices over every soul that reunites with His bride. Solomon now, speaks of his bride and love for her.
“Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck. How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon. A garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed.” – Song of Solomon 4:9-12.
“how much better is thy love than wine!” Solomon responds just as his bride did, her love was more valuable that the most desirable and precious things of the earth. Sister; A woman of the same faith. Jesus only marries those who are of the same faith, those who believe in and have received Him as their Saviour. The love of a husband and wife is quite like the love of Jesus and His bride, there is a sweet savor that gives off something unforgettable. It is something that will last for eternity, but it is only prominent when He does mean more to us than anything else. “There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear: because fear hath torment. He that feareth is not made perfect in love. We love him, because he first loved us. If a man say, I love God, and hateth his brother, he is a liar: for he that loveth not his brother whom he hath seen, how can he love God whom he hath not seen?” – I John 4:18-20.
Jesus Christ Magnified: Today, Jesus is revealed as the Rose of Sharon, and Lily of the valley (Son 2:1). Jesus lies among the thorns, He is a delight to those who believe in Him.
Today’s Prayer: God, You long to have a one on one relationship with us, one that is full of faith, trust, and honor, just as a husband and wife do when they vow to be one. While nothing is sure in life, one thing is sure, nothing can separate us from You. We may find some dark pathways, but You will always shine the Light to bring us back home. Lord, give me Your power to know You and love You with all my soul, heart, and mind. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
