Message: Finding Grace Through Weakness

Hello My Friend,

Grace, we all know it to be the unmerited favor of God, but grace us much more than that, it is the goodness and happiness of those who put their confidence in Jesus Christ as not only our Saviour, but their mentor, teacher, and guide to all things God. We do not always have to be in the best shape to see grace, in fact, most often it is when we are in our darkest moments that we see it the most. Christ is our comfort, our protection, our peace in all matters of life, good, bad, and ugly, and He withholds no good thing from those who trust Him, for His grace secures every blessing to the one that belongs to Him. “And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” – II Corinthians 12:9-10.

The sons of Korah, these are descendants of Kohath, who were rebellious against Moses and Aaron when God refused to let them go into the promised land. The sons of Korah did not participate in the rebellion afterwards and rose to great importance in the ministry of God, especially during David’s reign. All the Psalms today were addressed to them by David who penned them down. Since God deals with each one of us on an individual basis, we are not cast out or being punished for the things that our ancestors did. Oh, let me tell you, we do suffer the repercussions of others sins, but we are never judged by God for what others are responsible for. This Psalm was written for the weary soul in mind, when we have put our confidence in God, but still feel alone.

“O send out thy light and thy truth: let them lead me; let them bring me unto thy holy hill, and to thy tabernacles. Then will I go unto the altar of God, unto God my exceeding joy: yea, upon the harp will I praise thee, O God my God. Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.” – Psalms 43:3-5.

“O send out thy light and thy truth:” Light and truth, these are two things that are screaming Jesus, since He is the Light, and speaks nothing, but the truth. However, we can often get distorted images of both Light and truth when our circumstances darken us. It is His grace through our weakness that we can find comfort when our souls are weary and are confused. I get it, when we are trying to live our lives through Jesus and cannot find help through our troubles it can feel as though He has His back turned to us and it brings a lot of confusion. David often wondered where God was, and he often confronted Him about it too.

“My confusion is continually before me, and the shame of my face hath covered me, For the voice of him that reproacheth and blasphemeth; by reason of the enemy and avenger. All this is come upon us; yet have we not forgotten thee, neither have we dealt falsely in thy covenant. Our heart is not turned back, neither have our steps declined from thy way; Though thou hast sore broken us in the place of dragons, and covered us with the shadow of death. If we have forgotten the name of our God, or stretched out our hands to a strange god; Shall not God search this out? for he knoweth the secrets of the heart. Yea, for thy sake are we killed all the day long; we are counted as sheep for the slaughter. Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord? arise, cast us not off for ever.” – Psalm 44:15-23.

“Awake, why sleepest thou, O Lord?” Is God sleeping? Has He been ignoring our pleas for help? Has He cast us off? No. He knows what is going on, He feels our pain, He definitely knows our heart, and He has not cast us off, He is simply using our troubles to bring us closer to Him. Somewhere down the line we get complacent and comfortable, even living with things that we have grown accustom to. It is the feeling of being detached from God that brings us to the point where we are crying out to Him more, but grace reminds us that we are much better off in our affliction with God, than without Him. Nothing we have on this earth will last nor can we take it with us when we die, therefore, our most valuable asset is our soul. We are reminded through this Psalm that, rich or poor, we are all going to die, but it is our soul that is precious to God.

“They that trust in their wealth, and boast themselves in the multitude of their riches; None of them can by any means redeem his brother, nor give to God a ransom for him: (For the redemption of their soul is precious, and it ceaseth for ever:) That he should still live for ever, and not see corruption. Like sheep they are laid in the grave; death shall feed on them; and the upright shall have dominion over them in the morning; and their beauty shall consume in the grave from their dwelling. But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave: for he shall receive me. Selah.” – Psalm 49:6-6,14-15.

“But God will redeem my soul from the power of the grave:” Jesus is the only one who can redeem our soul, the one to give us power from the grave. In this wicked and corrupt world our lives are in danger everywhere we go, but we can be protected, we can know that if something tragic should happen to our body, our soul will be safe with Jesus. “He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life. These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.” – I John 5:12,13.

Many times when we pray to God He is speaking to us, the problem is that we are the ones not listening. To hear God we must open our ears, heart, mind, eyes, and spirit. Only when we give God our all can we hear Him speaking. Cry out to God, and He will hear you and speak.

“My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD: my heart and my flesh crieth out for the living God. Yea, the sparrow hath found an house, and the swallow a nest for herself, where she may lay her young, even thine altars, O LORD of hosts, my King, and my God. Blessed are they that dwell in thy house: they will be still praising thee. Selah. Blessed is the man whose strength is in thee; in whose heart are the ways of them. Behold, O God our shield, and look upon the face of thine anointed. For a day in thy courts is better than a thousand. I had rather be a doorkeeper in the house of my God, than to dwell in the tents of wickedness. For the LORD God is a sun and shield: the LORD will give grace and glory: no good thing will he withhold from them that walk uprightly. O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” – Psalm 84:2-5,9-12.

“My soul longeth, yea, even fainteth for the courts of the LORD:” Let me tell you, I use to be an avid church attender, Sunday morning, Sunday night, and Wednesday night, whenever the doors were open, I was there, but I got a job that often keeps me from going on Wednesday’s. After being gone an entire week without sitting in the house of God I feel empty and weak, I crave that Sunday morning singing and praising God, and the sermon I am in desperate need of. Once our soul belongs to Jesus there is no delight in the worldly things, it seeks and craves His presence. Let me tell you, with all my struggles there is no better life than the Christian life, I rather be a servant for Jesus, kneeling before Him as a sinner knowing who I am than having to face Him and He tell me He never knew me. “Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven. Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works? And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.” – Matthew 7:21-23.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “O LORD of hosts, blessed is the man that trusteth in thee.” – Psalm 84:12.

Today’s Prayer: God, It is so easy to praise and thank You when things are going well, not so much when we are facing difficulties. It is the difficulties that You allow that not only define us as Christians, but grow us and give us the strength to endure as we depend solely upon You. Oh, my soul gets so weary when nothing I do seems to make a difference, I want to run and hide, tempted to walk away and do what I want to do, but it is Your grace that keeps me from doing that. I rather be scrubbing floors in Your palace than living in corrupt riches. Lord, fill me full with Your grace, revive the joy of my salvation, my hope is in You, keep my feet walking with You, let me not turn to the right or left, guide me in the way You will have me, and open my ears, eyes, and heart to Your truths. In the name of Jesus I pray, Amen.
