Message: Leaning On God’s Wisdom

Hello My Friend,

The Book of Proverbs contains thirty-one chapters, most of the book is penned down by King Solomon, in his early days of reign, the timeline is about 990 to 995 BC. The book was first written to the Jews, but these truths are addressed to all believers. The purpose of the book is to teach wisdom, instruction, and correction to all who fear God. What we are to learn from it is that, God teaches us wisdom, instruction, and correction so that we can live a prosperous life through Him. “Trust in the LORD with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths.” – Proverbs 3:5,6.

When you first begin reading the Proverbs they seem like a bunch of sentences jumbled together, but as you begin to study them you realize this is not Solomon speaking, it is actually God. It is recorded in I Kings that Solomon spoke three thousand proverbs, all under the inspiration of God. Now, even though Solomon was the most wisest man and one of the most powerful and ruthless kings, he made a lot of mistakes, but he knew the key to his success was fearing God. God Himself speaks of what happens to those who do not fear Him.

When your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early, but they shall not find me: For that they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the LORD: They would none of my counsel: they despised all my reproof. Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way, and be filled with their own devices. For the turning away of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.” – Proverbs 1:27-33.

Therefore shall they eat of the fruit of their own way,” We cannot expect God to do great things in our lives, and this is addressed to many Christians, if there is constant sin in our lives. Fearing God is not about us having a fear that God will strike us down at every wrong thing we do, it is honoring, respecting, loving Him, and not leaving Him under any circumstance. While we can never lose our salvation once we receive Christ as our Saviour, we will die in our sin if live a sinful life. “But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. Then when lust hath conceived, it bringeth forth sin: and sin, when it is finished, bringeth forth death.” – James 1:14-15.

It is God who gives us every bit of the knowledge we have, it is the Holy Spirit in us that helps understand what that knowledge. Wisdom; The right use or exercise of knowledge. There is a good reason why God does not give us knowledge of certain things. God’s wisdom far exceeds that of mans, and the sooner we figure that out the longer we will live not only in this life, but in the life yet to come if we receive Christ as our Saviour.

For the LORD giveth wisdom: out of his mouth cometh knowledge and understanding. He layeth up sound wisdom for the righteous: he is a buckler to them that walk uprightly. He keepeth the paths of judgment, and preserveth the way of his saints. Then shalt thou understand righteousness, and judgment, and equity; yea, every good path. That thou mayest walk in the way of good men, and keep the paths of the righteous. For the upright shall dwell in the land, and the perfect shall remain in it. But the wicked shall be cut off from the earth, and the transgressors shall be rooted out of it.” – Proverbs 2:6-9,20-22.

and preserveth the way of his saints.” It is only when we take the time to know God that we grow in His knowledge and learn how to fear Him. The more we learn from God, the wiser we become, the more profitable we become too, if we do not fear God we will never understand His ways nor get help from Him either. Oh, we can prosper for a time without God, but sooner or later, all who lean on their own understanding will lose more than just material things, they will lose their lives. “But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law. Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness, Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies, Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.” – Galatians 5:18-21.

Honestly, it takes the Holy Spirit in us to understand His wisdom, many people read the Bible and claim they know God, but unless they have the Holy Spirit in them they can never understand Him, they will continuously question His ways and make excuses for not believing that every word of God is pure and true. God’s wisdom teaches us to treat others with respect, even if they have no respect for us.

Withhold not good from them to whom it is due, when it is in the power of thine hand to do it. Say not unto thy neighbour, Go, and come again, and to morrow I will give; when thou hast it by thee. Devise not evil against thy neighbour, seeing he dwelleth securely by thee. Strive not with a man without cause, if he have done thee no harm. Envy thou not the oppressor, and choose none of his ways. For the froward is abomination to the LORD: but his secret is with the righteous. The curse of the LORD is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just. Surely he scorneth the scorners: but he giveth grace unto the lowly. The wise shall inherit glory: but shame shall be the promotion of fools.” – Proverbs 3:27-35.

but he giveth grace unto the lowly. As Christians, we are not always going to make wise decisions, if fact, many times we will get caught up in something and make rash decisions because we did not think things through before we acted. God’s grace and truth is what gets us back on track, and even helps us through those bad decisions. When we lean on our own understanding, we are only looking at the surface of things, and we will make bad decisions if all we see is the surface. When we look to God and lean on His wisdom, He will direct our path, and we will keep from saying or doing something that we will regret.

My brethren, count it all joy when ye fall into divers temptations; Knowing this, that the trying of your faith worketh patience. But let patience have her perfect work, that ye may be perfect and entire, wanting nothing. If any of you lack wisdom, let him ask of God, that giveth to all men liberally, and upbraideth not; and it shall be given him. But let him ask in faith, nothing wavering. For he that wavereth is like a wave of the sea driven with the wind and tossed. For let not that man think that he shall receive any thing of the Lord. A double minded man is unstable in all his ways.” – James 1:2-8.

Jesus Christ Magnified: Today, Jesus is revealed through the curse of the LORD (Pro 3:33). Jesus became the curse of the LORD that would put an end to the curse of death passed down to all of us through the fall of man. “Christ hath redeemed us from the curse of the law, being made a curse for us: for it is written, Cursed is every one that hangeth on a tree:” – Galatians 3:13.

Today’s Prayer: God, When our minds are constantly bombarded with all sorts of doubts, guilt, frustrations, grief, anger, or hate, we can lose sight of our judgment and make some rash decisions. Thankfully You are full of mercy and grace to not only help us when we make decisions on our own reasoning, but guide us on how to do things in Yours. Thank You for Your wisdom and showing us how to take the knowledge You gave us and use it for Your glory. We may not always understand it, but when we take the time to study Your Word, receive it, and obey it, You will make us wiser and respectable to those around us. Lord, Lead us and guide us, fill us with Your wisdom, give us the strength to not lean on our own understanding, but Yours. Direct our paths and show Yourself mighty in our lives for all to see. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
