Message: Genesis: In the Beginning

Hello My Friend,

Happy 2026! I do not know about you, but it feels strange to begin a new year on a Thursday. It actually feels like Saturday, but then again every day has felt like Saturday to me since Christmas. I vow to start this year out with hope and positivity because while I do not know what the future holds I do know who holds my future. I pray that we all have a blessed year, protected and provided for, and that we rest easy in God’s hands, trusting that He will take care of everything. Now, as we begin the reading of Genesis we learn of the six days that God created the heavens and earth and everything on it. We are reminded that God created and everything and saw that it was good, [Genesis 1:31  And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.]

The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament, it contains fifty chapters, and the time line of these events took place approximately between 4004 BC to 1689 BC. The writer of the book is Moses and it was first written to Israel. The purpose of the book was to preserve the historical background of Israel and to give an account for creation, sin, redemption, and God’s first dealings with man. What we are to learn from the book is that God, the Creator of all things, brought us here in His image and gives us every means necessary for us to be accepted of Him, [If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. Genesis 4:7]

The events recorded in Genesis cover a period of two thousand three hundred and fifteen years. As we begin the reading of Genesis, God, gives an account to the six days that it took Him to create the heavens and earth, and His resting on the seventh day. First, we begin with Day One of creation.

[Genesis 1:1-5  In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth.  2  And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters.  3  And God said, Let there be light: and there was light.  4  And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness.  5  And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.]

Notice that when God first created the earth that it was nothing, but water, it had no substance to it whatsoever. Many people believe that between Genesis 1:1 and Genesis 1:2 there is a gap of time, also known as the “gap theory.” According to this view, the earth existed in a formless state for billions of years before becoming the world. This idea is also where evolutionists connect their belief in a massive cosmic explosion that eventually shaped itself into a planet capable of sustaining life over billions of years. It is important to understand that these are theories. There is nothing in Scripture or ancient historical records, that supports the idea of an earth that is billions of years old. In fact, they point to a much younger earth, measured in thousands of years, not billions.

All this means is that God had to create heaven and earth first as to have a place for His creation to life Notice, also that as soon as He created the earth, He placed His Spirit on the waters. As you study the Scriptures, you begin to see the beauty of this: Jesus, the second Person of the Trinity, is the Living Water. The Holy Spirit, the third Person of the Trinity, is the Light.

So even before God formed the land or placed a single grain of sand on the earth, the fullness of the Godhead, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, was already there, active and present. Creation did not begin with matter; it began with God Himself, establishing His presence before shaping anything else, [1 John 5:6-8  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.  7  For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.  8  And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.]

Honestly, this is the very first time that I saw it this way, and it all makes sense as to why God did it this way. And now, we come to Day Two of creation, Heaven, [Genesis 1:6-8  And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters.  7  And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so.  8  And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.]

[Firmament; The region of the air; the sky or heavens; the great arch or expanse over our heads,] In other words, God created the atmosphere of the sky and divided it from the gulf that is below. The firmament is the atmosphere of the sky or heavens and is the arch or gulf that separates heaven from hell. This is how those in hell are able to see those in heaven, but not able to get to it, [And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. – Luke 16:26]

Do you see how God designed everything for a specific purpose and in the precise order? Although He does not mention hell specifically, He does mention the firmament under the waters, and the earth and universe itself is right in the middle of them. And now we come to Day Three, when God gathers the waters together so that dry land appears. This is the moment when the earth takes shape in a recognizable form. God then brings forth vegetation, plants, trees, and every green thing, establishing the foundation for life to flourish.

[Genesis 1:9-13  And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so.  10  And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good.  11  And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so.  12  And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good.  13  And the evening and the morning were the third day.]

Before any creature walked the earth, God ensured that everything necessary for sustaining life was already in place. Then we come to Day Four, the creation of the sun, moon, stars, and planets. It is here that God established the rhythms and measurements of time: days, seasons, and years.

[Genesis 1:14-19  And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years:  15  And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so.  16  And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also.  17  And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth,  18  And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good.  19  And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.]

Because of this divine order, we understand why a year contains 365 days, and why every fourth year we add an extra day, a leap year, to keep our calendar aligned with the precise orbit God established. The heavens do more than display His glory; they reveal His perfect order and intentional design. And now we come to Day Five. This is the moment when God begins to fill the earth with life, creatures of the sea and creatures of the air.

[Genesis 1:20-23  And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven.  21  And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good.  22  And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.  23  And the evening and the morning were the fifth day.]

The waters teem with living creatures, and the skies come alive with birds of every kind, each one spoken into existence by His word and sustained by His wisdom. Do you see how God created everything precisely in the order and timing that He did? He ensured that every living thing would have what it needed to survive. While we could certainly live without chicken or turkey, none of us, human or animal, could survive without the water and vegetation God established first. His provision always precedes His creation. And now we come to Day Six, when God fills the land with life: cattle, horses, wildlife, insects, and reptiles.

[Genesis 1:24-27  And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so.  25  And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good.  26  And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.  27  So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.]

God created humanity in His very own image. That means the emotions we experience, joy, sorrow, love, righteous anger, all reflect something true about the heart of God. God rejoices, grieves, loves deeply, and responds with holy justice. Our emotional capacity is not an accident; it is part of the imprint of our Creator. God shaped a world perfectly suited for His most valuable creation, man. Notice how He specifically wanted it to be known that He created them male and female. Does anyone realize that if God did not create both males and females that life would cease to exist? Every detail works together in perfect harmony, revealing a Creator who planned not for life to just exist, but flourish.

[Genesis 1:28-30  And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth.  29  And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat.  30  And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so.]

While true science, also by God’s design, can create devices that help sustain life, it cannot create life itself. Nor can it change the boundaries God established in creation. God made everything after its own kind, people are people, dogs are dogs, oranges are oranges. They are not interchangeable, nor can one kind be transformed into another. Yes, two varieties within the same kind, like different citrus fruits, can be combined to produce another citrus fruit. But nothing God created can cross the boundary of its own kind to become something entirely different. Humanity has tried, and continues to try, but every attempt fails because only God can create life, and only God determines its kind. And now we come to Day Seven, the day God rested.

[Genesis 2:1-4  Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them.  2  And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made.  3  And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made.  4  These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,]

God, resting on the seventh day established the pattern for the seven‑day week that we still follow today. His work was complete, His design perfect, and His order unchanging. God makes no mistakes, even those born with infirmities have a God‑given purpose and are just as precious, beautiful, and intentionally crafted as the very first people He formed. Their value is not diminished by their limitations; it is defined by their Creator who shaped them with the same love, care, and purpose as every other human being, [John 9:3  Jesus answered, Neither hath this man sinned, nor his parents: but that the works of God should be made manifest in him.]

The generations of the heavens and earth is an interesting way of looking at creation, the word generation means to produce or procreate, so this is God’s account of His producing everything in the heavens and earth. Now, we are given detail into what we as humans are all made up of.

[Genesis 2:7-10  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul.  8  And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed.  9  And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.  10  And a river went out of Eden to water the garden; and from thence it was parted, and became into four heads.]

God did not speak man into existence the way He did with the rest of creation. Instead, He formed man from the dust of the ground, He was hands-on, deliberate, and personal. Then God did something incredible, He breathed into his nostrils the breath of life, and man became a living soul. Life did not begin with biology; it began with the very breath of God. Nothing was accidental. Nothing was missing. The river flowed out of Eden and from there it divided into four heads is something that we might want to pay attention to as we had just read about the Euphrates drying up in Revelation.

[Genesis 2:11-14  The name of the first is Pison: that is it which compasseth the whole land of Havilah, where there is gold;  12  And the gold of that land is good: there is bdellium and the onyx stone.  13  And the name of the second river is Gihon: the same is it that compasseth the whole land of Ethiopia.  14  And the name of the third river is Hiddekel: that is it which goeth toward the east of Assyria. And the fourth river is Euphrates.]

These rivers are not random landmarks, they still exist today. They were part of God’s original design, markers of blessing, provision, abundance, and judgment. God’s story is unified from beginning to end. Nothing on this earth is accidental or out of place. And now, God reveals how women came into existence. First, He gives Adam some rules to follow.

[Genesis 2:15-18  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.  16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.  18  And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him.]

Do you see that? Women were created to be a help meet, a companion, a partner, and a strength alongside the man. They were never meant to be treated as doormats, punching bags, or whores. And the same is true in reverse: men are not to be mistreated, demeaned, or used by women either. God designed both male and female with dignity, purpose, and value, and His intention was always mutual honor, mutual support, and mutual respect. Watch how God formed the woman from one of Adam’s ribs.

[Genesis 2:19-22  And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.  20  And Adam gave names to all cattle, and to the fowl of the air, and to every beast of the field; but for Adam there was not found an help meet for him.  21  And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22  And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man.]

I can picture Adam seeing all the animals, giving them their names, and thinking, “Is there no one for me?” So imagine the look on Adam’s face when he saw who was already established by God to be his wife for the first time. Likewise, this woman must have had some reaction when she saw her man. Since sin had not yet entered the world, their first meeting was pure, untainted, and filled with the beauty of God’s original design. This leads us to wonder: Why did God take a rib from Adam to create the woman? Both God and Adam gives the answer.

[Genesis 2:23-25  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.  24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.  25  And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.]

In other words, by God taking a rib from Adam that meant that they are now joined together as one flesh, just as God had established. However, here are some other reasons to consider: A rib is close to the heart. This symbolizes the affection, intimacy, and deep bond God intended between husband and wife. A rib is from Adam’s side. Not from his head to rule over him, not from his feet to be trampled under him, but from his side, to walk with him, to stand beside him, and to be his partner. A rib protects vital organs. Just as ribs guard the heart, the relationship between man and woman was meant to be one of mutual protection, care, and support. A rib heals. God chose a bone that can regenerate, hinting at restoration, unity, and the ongoing strength of the marriage bond. God’s choice was intentional. Women were not created as an afterthought, they are a masterpiece formed with purpose, dignity, and honor, [Proverbs 31:30  Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the LORD, she shall be praised.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for another year that passed, a new one just beginning, for the hope of eternal life and for giving us Your truths to live by. Without You all is dark and void, but with You we can see the Light and a blessed year ahead. Lord, watch over us, guide us, instead of us making the resolutions, make them for us and show us what they are. Give us peace, comfort, confidence, and hope for a great, blessed, and prosperous year. Remind us of how fortunate we are to have Your Son in our lives as this world grows more evil by the day and what our purpose is. Also, let us not lose sight of the lost and make sure to tell them of the hope that is within us to get through even today. I pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
