Message: Jeremiah: God’s Call For Repentance

Hello My Friend,

As we continue in the reading of Jeremiah we learn that God repents too, He will repent of the judgment of death and hell that is places upon us through our faith in His Son. And we will repent of His judgment of a nation if they repent. God’s willingness to repent is contingent on our willingness to repent, [Joel 2:12-13  Therefore also now, saith the LORD, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:  13  And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the LORD your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.]

God, continues to tell Jeremiah what He wants from them in order for Him to repent of the judgment that He has placed upon them. God, is not a tyrant, He just expects us to be committed to Him as He is to us, our faith and faithfulness stems from the heart and goes on to tell them what they need to do to get it right.

[Jeremiah 4:1-4  If thou wilt return, O Israel, saith the LORD, return unto me: and if thou wilt put away thine abominations out of my sight, then shalt thou not remove.  2  And thou shalt swear, The LORD liveth, in truth, in judgment, and in righteousness; and the nations shall bless themselves in him, and in him shall they glory.  3  For thus saith the LORD to the men of Judah and Jerusalem, Break up your fallow ground, and sow not among thorns.  4  Circumcise yourselves to the LORD, and take away the foreskins of your heart, ye men of Judah and inhabitants of Jerusalem: lest my fury come forth like fire, and burn that none can quench it, because of the evil of your doings.]

In other words, their hearts have been covered with so much sin that they have become hardened to any form of correction from God. Sin has no boundaries, it will bring people to cross over into a darkness like they never seen, especially those whom had some kind of exposure to Christ. In fact Jesus said this as to why they tried to kill Him, [John 15:20-24  Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep your’s also.  21  But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me.  22  If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin.  23  He that hateth me hateth my Father also.  24  If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father.]

You see, those whose hearts are hardened to God are not ignorant to the fact that they are sinners and that is why they hate Him so much, the mere mention of His name brings personal conviction and they will not have that. God, continues to plead with them to get their heart right.

[Jeremiah 4:7-9,14,18  The lion is come up from his thicket, and the destroyer of the Gentiles is on his way; he is gone forth from his place to make thy land desolate; and thy cities shall be laid waste, without an inhabitant.  8  For this gird you with sackcloth, lament and howl: for the fierce anger of the LORD is not turned back from us.  9  And it shall come to pass at that day, saith the LORD, that the heart of the king shall perish, and the heart of the princes; and the priests shall be astonished, and the prophets shall wonder. 14  O Jerusalem, wash thine heart from wickedness, that thou mayest be saved. How long shall thy vain thoughts lodge within thee? 18  Thy way and thy doings have procured these things unto thee; this is thy wickedness, because it is bitter, because it reacheth unto thine heart.]

It is a sad fact that a good majority of saved, born again Christians, take their salvation for granted. I do not need to tell you this, but today people are just as unruly and disrespectful of any kind of authority as they were back then, and they are in for a huge awakening, although they will probably be just as hardhearted as Israel, [Acts 28:27  For the heart of this people is waxed gross, and their ears are dull of hearing, and their eyes have they closed; lest they should see with their eyes, and hear with their ears, and understand with their heart, and should be converted, and I should heal them.]

The lion is referring to Nebuchadnezzar, God is warning them that Nebuchadnezzar was on his way to capture them. The people who had appeared to have returned to the Lord on the basis of their hypocritical behavior would find themselves sorely disappointed when they face Him. Now, their only option at this point is to truly repent because God is not going to repent this time of any evil that comes their way.

[Jeremiah 4:21-22,27-28,30  How long shall I see the standard, and hear the sound of the trumpet?  22  For my people is foolish, they have not known me; they are sottish children, and they have none understanding: they are wise to do evil, but to do good they have no knowledge. 27  For thus hath the LORD said, The whole land shall be desolate; yet will I not make a full end.  28  For this shall the earth mourn, and the heavens above be black: because I have spoken it, I have purposed it, and will not repent, neither will I turn back from it. 30  And when thou art spoiled, what wilt thou do? Though thou clothest thyself with crimson, though thou deckest thee with ornaments of gold, though thou rentest thy face with painting, in vain shalt thou make thyself fair; thy lovers will despise thee, they will seek thy life.]

Way too many Christians are painted up to look like they are living for Christ, but it is only a visage, deep down they are living some pretty wicked lives, and they may not be showing it, but they are suffering too. Now, if they only would repent, then they would not be suffering so much, but apparently they love their sin more than they love God, [Romans 1:29-32  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,  30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.]

God, literally sent Jeremiah to search out Jerusalem to see if anyone of these who appeared to look like one of His were actually His. Now, God already knew the truth, but He wanted to Jeremiah to see for himself where their heart truly lied. And to Jeremiah’s disappointment, he found out that the people did not even care about God, including those who knew of His judgments.

[Jeremiah 5:1-5  Run ye to and fro through the streets of Jerusalem, and see now, and know, and seek in the broad places thereof, if ye can find a man, if there be any that executeth judgment, that seeketh the truth; and I will pardon it.  2  And though they say, The LORD liveth; surely they swear falsely.  3  O LORD, are not thine eyes upon the truth? thou hast stricken them, but they have not grieved; thou hast consumed them, but they have refused to receive correction: they have made their faces harder than a rock; they have refused to return.  4  Therefore I said, Surely these are poor; they are foolish: for they know not the way of the LORD, nor the judgment of their God.  5  I will get me unto the great men, and will speak unto them; for they have known the way of the LORD, and the judgment of their God: but these have altogether broken the yoke, and burst the bonds.]

God knows who are His and He will deal with all the hypocrites accordingly. Jesus, said it this way, [Luke 13:26-28  Then shall ye begin to say, We have eaten and drunk in thy presence, and thou hast taught in our streets.  27  But he shall say, I tell you, I know you not whence ye are; depart from me, all ye workers of iniquity.  28  There shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth, when ye shall see Abraham, and Isaac, and Jacob, and all the prophets, in the kingdom of God, and you yourselves thrust out.]

Of all the searching that Jeremiah did for someone who had not turned from God, he found something much worse than ignorant fools that had no knowledge of Him, He found those who knew of God, but were willingly ignorant to His Law and had no desire to learn or follow it. This behavior was the very reason behind the judgment, God, will not have mercy on the hypocrites.

[Jeremiah 5:7-9,12-14  How shall I pardon thee for this? thy children have forsaken me, and sworn by them that are no gods: when I had fed them to the full, they then committed adultery, and assembled themselves by troops in the harlots’ houses.  8  They were as fed horses in the morning: every one neighed after his neighbour’s wife.  9  Shall I not visit for these things? saith the LORD: and shall not my soul be avenged on such a nation as this? 12  They have belied the LORD, and said, It is not he; neither shall evil come upon us; neither shall we see sword nor famine:  13  And the prophets shall become wind, and the word is not in them: thus shall it be done unto them.  14  Wherefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, Because ye speak this word, behold, I will make my words in thy mouth fire, and this people wood, and it shall devour them.]

hese people thought that because they were Jews that they were privileged and therefore untouchable. Sound familiar? This sounds an awful lot like the religious and unfaithful Christians today. While God can and does intervene more than we realize, there does come a time when repentance is the only option, and if it is not taken, then there will be no mercy, and ignorance to the truth will not save anyone either. Of course, they will wonder why all the evils are coming about them, and through Jeremiah goes on to tell them why.

[Jeremiah 5:19,21-22,25  And it shall come to pass, when ye shall say, Wherefore doeth the LORD our God all these things unto us? then shalt thou answer them, Like as ye have forsaken me, and served strange gods in your land, so shall ye serve strangers in a land that is not your’s 21 Hear now this, O foolish people, and without understanding; which have eyes, and see not; which have ears, and hear not:  22  Fear ye not me? saith the LORD: will ye not tremble at my presence, which have placed the sand for the bound of the sea by a perpetual decree, that it cannot pass it: and though the waves thereof toss themselves, yet can they not prevail; though they roar, yet can they not pass over it? 25  Your iniquities have turned away these things, and your sins have withholden good things from you.]

We all sin after being saved, and we can fall tremendously if we are not walking with Christ daily, but a life with Jesus is a changed life, or it ought to be one that shows the world that we are not of the world, but of Him. We are not to be like the world, if we were then we would be falsely representing Christ, and there will be judgment for that, [Hebrews 6:4-6  For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost,  5  And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come,  6  If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.]

God, does not want to see the earth destroyed, and He certainly does not want a single soul that He created to end up in hell, but that choice is up to each individual. God, has commanded all saved, born again Christians to let the world know that they need Jesus. Jeremiah, lived among the tribe of Benjamin, who had remained with with Judah, and continued in the pure worship of God when the other ten tribes revolted. However, they were in danger too, so God sends Jeremiah to them with a message.

[Jeremiah 6:1-3,6-7  O ye children of Benjamin, gather yourselves to flee out of the midst of Jerusalem, and blow the trumpet in Tekoa, and set up a sign of fire in Beth-haccerem: for evil appeareth out of the north, and great destruction.  2  I have likened the daughter of Zion to a comely and delicate woman.  3  The shepherds with their flocks shall come unto her; they shall pitch their tents against her round about; they shall feed every one in his place. 6  For thus hath the LORD of hosts said, Hew ye down trees, and cast a mount against Jerusalem: this is the city to be visited; she is wholly oppression in the midst of her.  7  As a fountain casteth out her waters, so she casteth out her wickedness: violence and spoil is heard in her; before me continually is grief and wounds.]

You can tell people how much Jesus loves them all you want, and you can tell them that He died on the cross, but if you do not tell them why He died on the cross, and just what they are believing in then, they will never be saved because they must admit that they are sinners first. Now, through Jeremiah, God, expresses His anger toward those who are not ashamed of their sin.

[Jeremiah 6:10-11,15-16  To whom shall I speak, and give warning, that they may hear? behold, their ear is uncircumcised, and they cannot hearken: behold, the word of the LORD is unto them a reproach; they have no delight in it.  11  Therefore I am full of the fury of the LORD; I am weary with holding in: I will pour it out upon the children abroad, and upon the assembly of young men together: for even the husband with the wife shall be taken, the aged with him that is full of days. 15  Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the LORD. 16  Thus saith the LORD, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.]

What I would not give for the old paths that were only a few years ago. When the kids were like sponges to hear God’s Word and had respect for their parents, teachers, and all authority, who did not pitch fits in public because they did not get everything they wanted. You know, these days we hear so much about people being brought into privilege because they are a certain color, race or gender, but the ones who believe that need to open their eyes to the fact there is no respecter of persons with God, [Romans 2:7-11  To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:  8  But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath,  9  Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;  10  But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:  11  For there is no respect of persons with God.]

Do not let the world fool you, or religion for that matter, anyone in their right mind can see that all the strange occurrences in the weather has to do with more than climate change. What is going on right now is one big altar call from God from all over the world, and it scares them to death.

[Jeremiah 6:19-21,28,30  Hear, O earth: behold, I will bring evil upon this people, even the fruit of their thoughts, because they have not hearkened unto my words, nor to my law, but rejected it.  20  To what purpose cometh there to me incense from Sheba, and the sweet cane from a far country? your burnt offerings are not acceptable, nor your sacrifices sweet unto me.  21  Therefore thus saith the LORD, Behold, I will lay stumblingblocks before this people, and the fathers and the sons together shall fall upon them; the neighbour and his friend shall perish.  28  They are all grievous revolters, walking with slanders: they are brass and iron; they are all corrupters. 30  Reprobate silver shall men call them, because the LORD hath rejected them.]

Reprobate silver is the dross or muck that has been sifted from the silver itself, it has no use or value. This is a picture of all those who are living their lives through the visage of religion or self righteousness and what they actually look like to God. Until we see Christ for who He is, until we acknowledge that we are sinners and cannot save ourselves, but Jesus can saves us, that is when we go from being a reprobate to a child of God, [2 Corinthians 13:5-8  Examine yourselves, whether ye be in the faith; prove your own selves. Know ye not your own selves, how that Jesus Christ is in you, except ye be reprobates?  6  But I trust that ye shall know that we are not reprobates.  7  Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.  8  For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for reminding me once again of just how much You love me and how blessed I am to be one of Yours. For the life of me I do not understand why you are so merciful and forgiving, but You are faithful and just to forgive all my unrighteousness when I come to You confessing my sin. It truly is grieving to see our churches run by so much evil, and I can only imagine how much it grieves You, and how much You just want them to see Your Son again, and turn away from their sin. Lord, put Your hedge of protection around me and all Your faithful, fill us with Your power, mercies, grace, compassion, and a passion to reach the lost. Let us not fear the evil, only fear You and trust that what You tell us in darkness we will speak in the Light of Your Son. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
