Message: Genesis: Noah And The Great Flood

Hello My Friend,

TGIF! I do not know about you, but it seems like the week is extra long, it has been feeling like Friday since Wednesday to me, but I think it has to do with the first day of the year being in the middle of the week and I was off work. It is strange how we have the same twenty-four hours in a day, but some seem to stretch forever and others are gone in the blink of an eye. It is no wonder why God sees one day as one thousand.

[2 Peter 3:8-10  But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.  9  The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.  10  But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.]

Yes, the day will come when Jesus will return and the world will be just as clueless and faithless as those in the day of Noah, [Matthew 24:37-39  But as the days of Noe were, so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.  38  For as in the days that were before the flood they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noe entered into the ark,  39  And knew not until the flood came, and took them all away; so shall also the coming of the Son of man be.]

As we continue in the reading of Genesis, we learn how quickly the years do seem to go by as man populated the earth and more people followed the world instead of God. What made things worse was that believers began to marry unbelievers and well, morality ceased. There is a reason why believers are not to yoke together with unbelievers, whether that be a marriage, friendship, or business, nine times out of ten the unbeliever will turn the believer away from God. This is what was going on, and God saw all this and was not happy. Up until this point God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, walked the entire earth, but all of that was about to change, they had one hundred and twenty years to repent.

[Genesis 6:1-3  And it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth, and daughters were born unto them,  2  That the sons of God saw the daughters of men that they were fair; and they took them wives of all which they chose.  3  And the LORD said, My Spirit shall not always strive with man, for that he also is flesh: yet his days shall be an hundred and twenty years.]

This is the first time reading this that I learned what God meant by this besides giving a lifespan to man. God, took His Spirit from man’s soul when Adam and Eve sinned, He was about to take His Spirit from the earth completely, meaning end all life on it, but they had one hundred and twenty years to repent before He did. God, goes on to describe what He saw and why it grieved Him that He even created man.

[Genesis 6:4-7  There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.  5  And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually.  6  And it repented the LORD that he had made man on the earth, and it grieved him at his heart.  7  And the LORD said, I will destroy man whom I have created from the face of the earth; both man, and beast, and the creeping thing, and the fowls of the air; for it repenteth me that I have made them.]

Giants, meaning that they developed very early in age, strong, and tall, but what was more concerning to God was that they were just as reprobates are described, [Romans 1:29-32  Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers,  30  Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents,  31  Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful:  32  Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.]

This is exactly what happens when there are no rules to live by, if we all lived the way we wanted, then it would be utter chaos, just like people got when Covid hit and we were all shut up in our homes. As a society we all need to start having respect for life itself. God, was so grieved at the wickedness that He saw from the most precious creature that He created that He decided to send a flood that would end life on earth completely. However, He did find some hope in man, in fact, one man named Noah.

[Genesis 6:8-14  But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD.  9  These are the generations of Noah: Noah was a just man and perfect in his generations, and Noah walked with God.  10  And Noah begat three sons, Shem, Ham, and Japheth.  11  The earth also was corrupt before God, and the earth was filled with violence.  12  And God looked upon the earth, and, behold, it was corrupt; for all flesh had corrupted his way upon the earth.  13  And God said unto Noah, The end of all flesh is come before me; for the earth is filled with violence through them; and, behold, I will destroy them with the earth.  14  Make thee an ark of gopher wood; rooms shalt thou make in the ark, and shalt pitch it within and without with pitch.]

Whenever I read this I always imagine how evil things must have been for God to flood the entire earth. It is quite sad because I know that God must be grieving over the state of the earth today, I suspect that we are seeing much of what God was seeing back then, and it seems we are fast approaching eight believers left on earth. God, instructs Noah to build a boat three stories high.

[Genesis 6:17-19,21-22  And, behold, I, even I, do bring a flood of waters upon the earth, to destroy all flesh, wherein is the breath of life, from under heaven; and every thing that is in the earth shall die.  18  But with thee will I establish my covenant; and thou shalt come into the ark, thou, and thy sons, and thy wife, and thy sons’ wives with thee.  19  And of every living thing of all flesh, two of every sort shalt thou bring into the ark, to keep them alive with thee; they shall be male and female. 21  And take thou unto thee of all food that is eaten, and thou shalt gather it to thee; and it shall be for food for thee, and for them.  22  Thus did Noah; according to all that God commanded him, so did he.]

The Ark, which actually is a picture of Christ, did not get finished in a few months or years, it actually took every bit of the one hundred and twenty years that God gave the others to repent to build. Noah, might not have understood why God was doing this, but did as He commanded. God, always gives man the opportunity to repent, at any time if any of the others wanted to get onboard He would have allowed it, but sadly only eight people boarded the Ark.

[Genesis 7:1-4  And the LORD said unto Noah, Come thou and all thy house into the ark; for thee have I seen righteous before me in this generation.  2  Of every clean beast thou shalt take to thee by sevens, the male and his female: and of beasts that are not clean by two, the male and his female.  3  Of fowls also of the air by sevens, the male and the female; to keep seed alive upon the face of all the earth.  4  For yet seven days, and I will cause it to rain upon the earth forty days and forty nights; and every living substance that I have made will I destroy from off the face of the earth.]

Noah, had seven days to get everyone and creature on the Ark before the rain came, and I am sure that he was urging the others to get on board, but the only people to get onboard was Noah, his wife, their sons, and wives, along with the animals, [Genesis 7:7-10  And Noah went in, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him, into the ark, because of the waters of the flood.  8  Of clean beasts, and of beasts that are not clean, and of fowls, and of every thing that creepeth upon the earth,  9  There went in two and two unto Noah into the ark, the male and the female, as God had commanded Noah.  10  And it came to pass after seven days, that the waters of the flood were upon the earth.]

We must understand that this goes beyond your typical sin, this was pure evil, barbarous and wicked type evil and sadly we are becoming more like that now. However, God, will never leave one soul behind that comes to Him. Now as soon as everyone was onboard God Himself shut them in.

[Genesis 7:13-16  In the selfsame day entered Noah, and Shem, and Ham, and Japheth, the sons of Noah, and Noah’s wife, and the three wives of his sons with them, into the ark;  14  They, and every beast after his kind, and all the cattle after their kind, and every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind, and every fowl after his kind, every bird of every sort.  15  And they went in unto Noah into the ark, two and two of all flesh, wherein is the breath of life.  16  And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.]

I love this, it was God who closed the door to preserve them from the catastrophe that was about to take place. This is what Jesus does for every soul the second one accepts Him as their Saviour, He preserves it, [Luke 17:33  Whosoever shall seek to save his life shall lose it; and whosoever shall lose his life shall preserve it.]

It actually grieves God more to watch His very creation reject His Son, He does not want to see one soul in hell, but that is the choice they make, He will not force anyone to come to Him, but He will deny all who do. And just like that, not only did the rain come pouring down, water start gushing out of the ground and every body of water on the earth. For forty days and forty nights it rained continuously and everything that was on dry land died. The waters surpassed the tallest mountain on earth by twenty-two and a half feet.

[Genesis 7:19-24  And the waters prevailed exceedingly upon the earth; and all the high hills, that were under the whole heaven, were covered.  20  Fifteen cubits upward did the waters prevail; and the mountains were covered.  21  And all flesh died that moved upon the earth, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of beast, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth, and every man:  22  All in whose nostrils was the breath of life, of all that was in the dry land, died.  23  And every living substance was destroyed which was upon the face of the ground, both man, and cattle, and the creeping things, and the fowl of the heaven; and they were destroyed from the earth: and Noah only remained alive, and they that were with him in the ark.  24  And the waters prevailed upon the earth an hundred and fifty days.]

I guarantee you that when those fools started seeing the rains coming down and water gushing everywhere that they were beating on that door, but once the door was shut, there was no way in, [Luke 13:25  When once the master of the house is risen up, and hath shut to the door, and ye begin to stand without, and to knock at the door, saying, Lord, Lord, open unto us; and he shall answer and say unto you, I know you not whence ye are:]

Let me tell you, it is only the few and faithful from this generation that is holding God back from His final judgment upon the entire earth right now. God, never forgets His promise, He remembered that He told Noah that He was going to establish His covenant with him and that was when the waters began to recede.

[Genesis 8:1-4  And God remembered Noah, and every living thing, and all the cattle that was with him in the ark: and God made a wind to pass over the earth, and the waters asswaged;  2  The fountains also of the deep and the windows of heaven were stopped, and the rain from heaven was restrained;  3  And the waters returned from off the earth continually: and after the end of the hundred and fifty days the waters were abated. 4  And the ark rested in the seventh month, on the seventeenth day of the month, upon the mountains of Ararat.]

At this point, they were in the Ark for ten months, the waters had only receded down to the mountains. Noah, and I am sure the others were as well, was eager to find out if the waters were gone completely so he sent two birds through the window to see if they would bring back any sign of life.

[Genesis 8:7-10  And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth.  8  Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground;  9  But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark.  10  And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark;]

I picture Jesus doing this to His children whenever they get restless, He pulls them right back in and gives them the rest they need. Jesus, is our complete and utter rest from everything, we only need to come to Him in order to take it all in, [Matthew 11:28-29  Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.  29  Take my yoke upon you, and learn of me; for I am meek and lowly in heart: and ye shall find rest unto your souls.]

It now had been nearly one year since Noah, his family, and all the animals stayed on the Ark, not one soul or creature died, and there was no strife, but needless to say I am sure they were all very excited to be getting off the Ark. So when the dove returned I am sure they were a bit discouraged. Nevertheless, seven days later, Noah sent the dove back to discover that life was once again sustainable on the earth.

[Genesis 8:11-13  And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf pluckt off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth.  12  And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more.  13  And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry.]

God, will allow us to test the waters so speak so that we might show the lost how they can find rest for their souls, but He will only allow us to go so far to keep us from getting caught up in the evils of the world. Once they discovered that the land was dry, God, gave the okay that they could leave, [Genesis 8:15-17  And God spake unto Noah, saying,  16  Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee.  17  Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth.]

Exactly one year after the rain began and the flood destroyed the earth, the land was dry, and life was sustainable on it once again. God, commands Noah, his family, and all the creatures to come out of the ark and simply live. As soon as every man, woman, and creature departed from the Ark, Noah built an altar and gave an offering to God.

[Genesis 8:20-22  And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar.  21  And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done.  22  While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.]

This was the very first sacrifice that would become law for anyone who wanted to come to God and be reconciled with Him. Since Jesus was not here in the flesh yet, God would command the sacrifice of unblemished animals to reconcile with those who did love Him.

[Hebrews 10:1,4,9-10  For the law having a shadow of good things to come, and not the very image of the things, can never with those sacrifices which they offered year by year continually make the comers thereunto perfect. 4  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins. 9  Then said he, Lo, I come to do thy will, O God. He taketh away the first, that he may establish the second.  10  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.]

God’s faithful are not perfect by a long shot, but they love Him with all their heart, and it is through their actions that they find His favor. God, does not even forget His semi-faithful, and unfaithful, we may suffer, some more than others because we are not repentant, but we always have the promise of eternal life through Christ because that is the covenant He made with His true believers.

[Colossians 1:19-22  For it pleased the Father that in him should all fulness dwell;  20  And, having made peace through the blood of his cross, by him to reconcile all things unto himself; by him, I say, whether they be things in earth, or things in heaven.  21  And you, that were sometime alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now hath he reconciled  22  In the body of his flesh through death, to present you holy and unblameable and unreproveable in his sight:]

Jesus Christ Revealed/Magnified: [Genesis 7:16  And they that went in, went in male and female of all flesh, as God had commanded him: and the LORD shut him in.]

Today’s Prayer: God, You make it simple to have a blessed life here on earth, follow Your commands and life, but that only happens by first accepting Your Son as our Saviour. In doing so we not only get saved through our faith in Your Son, we receive Your favor, and that is truly amazing. I am humbled to be one of the faithful and few who serve You continually, but it is not of my own doing, it is You who lives in me that I am who I am, and I am justified freely through my faith in Jesus. Lord, lead me and guide me, fill me with Your grace, keep my heart open and tender as I deal with the floods of life with You, let it always be willing to serve You however You lead me, and enable me with Your mercy, power, and strength to follow Your commands and live. In pray this in Your name, Jesus, Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
