Message: God Creates The Heavens And Earth
Hello My Friend,
Happy New Year! I was just thinking that the Bible is like one of those old series you watch over and over again, when it comes to the last episode you go right back to the beginning. Today, I started using a King James Bible that has the words color coded so when God is speaking the words written are blue, when the Holy Spirit is mentioned the words are gold, and of course when Jesus is speaking the words are red. Every time the new year begins we make all these goals and resolutions for making it the best year ever, but this year I only have one goal, to know what God wants for me.
[1 Thessalonians 5:18-24 In every thing give thanks: for this is the will of God in Christ Jesus concerning you. 19 Quench not the Spirit. 20 Despise not prophesyings. 21 Prove all things; hold fast that which is good. 22 Abstain from all appearance of evil. 23 And the very God of peace sanctify you wholly; and I pray God your whole spirit and soul and body be preserved blameless unto the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ. 24 Faithful is he that calleth you, who also will do it.]
The Book of Genesis is the first book of the Old Testament, it contains fifty chapters, and the time line of these events took place approximately between 4004 BC to 1689 BC. The writer of the book is Moses and it was first written to Israel. The purpose of the book was to preserve the historical background of Israel and to give an account for creation, sin, redemption, and God’s first dealings with man. What we are to learn from the book is that God, the Creator of all things, brought us here in His image and gives us every means necessary for us to be accepted of Him, [If thou doest well, shalt thou not be accepted? and if thou doest not well, sin lieth at the door. And unto thee shall be his desire, and thou shalt rule over him. Genesis 4:7]
The events recorded in Genesis cover a period of two thousand three hundred and fifteen years (Ussher). As we begin the reading of Genesis, God, gives an account to the six days that it took Him to create the heavens and earth, and His resting on the seventh day. Notice that on Day One, that the very first thing that God did when He created the earth was move His Spirit upon it.
[Genesis 1:1-5 In the beginning God created the heaven and the earth. 2 And the earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters. 3 And God said, Let there be light: and there was light. 4 And God saw the light, that it was good: and God divided the light from the darkness. 5 And God called the light Day, and the darkness he called Night. And the evening and the morning were the first day.]
Right in between verse one and two many believe this to be a gap and that it took billions of years for the earth to go from utter darkness to light. This is also where evolutionist believe that the there was this giant explosion in the universe that took on some form and took billions of years to produce life on it. All this means is that since mankind would be living on this planet God created it first so of course it had no life on it. God’s Spirit is what gives life on earth, without Him this earth will be just like every soul that does not have His Spirit in it, without form and void, [John 4:24 God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in Spirit and in truth.]
The capital D in Day as well as the N in Night is capitalized for a reason, it signifies that this was one complete twenty-four hour day. In the beginning a twenty-four hour day would began at sundown as opposed to midnight. And now we come to Day Two, the creation of the heavens.
[Genesis 1:6-8 And God said, Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters. 7 And God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament: and it was so. 8 And God called the firmament Heaven. And the evening and the morning were the second day.]
Notice that the earth is actually suspended in water, well, the entire universe is. [Firmament; The region of the air; the sky or heavens; the great arch or expanse over our heads,] The firmament is the atmosphere of the sky or heavens and is the arch or gulf that separates heaven from hell, and this is how those in hell are able to see those in heaven, but not able to get to it, [And beside all this, between us and you there is a great gulf fixed: so that they which would pass from hence to you cannot; neither can they pass to us, that would come from thence. – Luke 16:26]
Do you see how God designed everything for a specific purpose and in the correct order? Although He does not mention hell specifically, He does mention the firmament under the waters, and the earth and universe itself is right in the middle of them. And now, we come to Day Three, the creation of vegetation.
[Genesis 1:9-13 And God said, Let the waters under the heaven be gathered together unto one place, and let the dry land appear: and it was so. 10 And God called the dry land Earth; and the gathering together of the waters called he Seas: and God saw that it was good. 11 And God said, Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb yielding seed, and the fruit tree yielding fruit after his kind, whose seed is in itself, upon the earth: and it was so. 12 And the earth brought forth grass, and herb yielding seed after his kind, and the tree yielding fruit, whose seed was in itself, after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 13 And the evening and the morning were the third day.]
Before God would put man and beast upon the earth, He made sure that it was sustainable. And now we come to Day Four, the creation of sun, moon, stars, and planets. This explains leap years and how we know that there are three hundred and sixty-five days out of the year and one additional day every four years.
[Genesis 1:14-19 And God said, Let there be lights in the firmament of the heaven to divide the day from the night; and let them be for signs, and for seasons, and for days, and years: 15 And let them be for lights in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth: and it was so. 16 And God made two great lights; the greater light to rule the day, and the lesser light to rule the night: he made the stars also. 17 And God set them in the firmament of the heaven to give light upon the earth, 18 And to rule over the day and over the night, and to divide the light from the darkness: and God saw that it was good. 19 And the evening and the morning were the fourth day.]
All of our seasons are determined by the revolutions of the sun and moon and how many times they revolve around it in a year. Only God can create something so precise that the sun is placed just right so that the earth would not burn up or become an ice box. Can you just imagine the years it took for the real scientist to figure all this out? And all this was before the flood, so, there was no rain or snow. True science does not question life itself, it observes and documents it with the help of God of course. And now we come to Day Five, the creation of birds and sea creatures.
[Genesis 1:20-22 And God said, Let the waters bring forth abundantly the moving creature that hath life, and fowl that may fly above the earth in the open firmament of heaven. 21 And God created great whales, and every living creature that moveth, which the waters brought forth abundantly, after their kind, and every winged fowl after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 22 And God blessed them, saying, Be fruitful, and multiply, and fill the waters in the seas, and let fowl multiply in the earth.]
Do you see how God created everything precisely in the time that He did? He made sure that every living thing could be maintained and survive. While we definitely could survive without chicken and turkey, we would not if we have no water or plants to sustain us, and neither would they. Now, we come to Day Six and the creation of cattle, horses, wildlife, insects, reptiles, and man.
[Genesis 1:24-27 And God said, Let the earth bring forth the living creature after his kind, cattle, and creeping thing, and beast of the earth after his kind: and it was so. 25 And God made the beast of the earth after his kind, and cattle after their kind, and every thing that creepeth upon the earth after his kind: and God saw that it was good. 26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth. 27 So God created man in his own image, in the image of God created he him; male and female created he them.]
God, makes no mistakes when He creates life, even those born with infirmities have a purpose and are actually just as precious, beautiful, and perfect to God as the very first people He created, [Psalms 139:15-17 My substance was not hid from thee, when I was made in secret, and curiously wrought in the lowest parts of the earth. 16 Thine eyes did see my substance, yet being unperfect; and in thy book all my members were written, which in continuance were fashioned, when as yet there was none of them. 17 How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them!]
God’s most precious creation of all is man, meaning mankind, and He created us in His very own image. That means that every emotion we have God has, He laughs, He cries, He mourns, He rejoices, He loves, He hates as we do. Well, to be honest, it was Adam and Eve who were created in God’s image, we are created in the likeness of Adam, [Genesis 5:1-3 This is the book of the generations of Adam. In the day that God created man, in the likeness of God made he him; 2 Male and female created he them; and blessed them, and called their name Adam, in the day when they were created. 3 And Adam lived an hundred and thirty years, and begat a son in his own likeness, after his image; and called his name Seth:]
Being created in the image of Adam means that we took on his sin nature as well as the curse that would be passed down to us, which we will read about tomorrow. All God needs is one male and a female of each kind to produce an abundance of life, in fact, the very first thing He says to them after He blesses them is to be fruitful and multiply.
[Genesis 1:28-31 And God blessed them, and God said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth, and subdue it: and have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over every living thing that moveth upon the earth. 29 And God said, Behold, I have given you every herb bearing seed, which is upon the face of all the earth, and every tree, in the which is the fruit of a tree yielding seed; to you it shall be for meat. 30 And to every beast of the earth, and to every fowl of the air, and to every thing that creepeth upon the earth, wherein there is life, I have given every green herb for meat: and it was so. 31 And God saw every thing that he had made, and, behold, it was very good. And the evening and the morning were the sixth day.]
When God created everything, He saw that it was good, He created everything of its own kind, meaning people are people, dogs are dogs, oranges are oranges, and so forth, they are not interchangeable. Now, two different kinds of citrus can be combined to produce a different kind of citrus, but nothing of its own kind can be combined with another to produce anything other than one of its own kind. Trust me, they have tried it and failed and still try it and fail every time because while true science may, by the power God, be able to create devices that can help sustain life, it cannot create life or anything else out of what God has made of its own kind. And now we come to Day Seven, and the reason why there are seven days in a week.
[Genesis 2:1-4 Thus the heavens and the earth were finished, and all the host of them. 2 And on the seventh day God ended his work which he had made; and he rested on the seventh day from all his work which he had made. 3 And God blessed the seventh day, and sanctified it: because that in it he had rested from all his work which God created and made. 4 These are the generations of the heavens and of the earth when they were created, in the day that the LORD God made the earth and the heavens,]
The generations of the heavens and earth, that is an interesting way of looking at creation, the word generation means to produce or procreate, so this is God’s account of His producing everything in the heavens and earth. Now, we are given detail into what we are all made up of.
[Genesis 2:5-9 And every plant of the field before it was in the earth, and every herb of the field before it grew: for the LORD God had not caused it to rain upon the earth, and there was not a man to till the ground. 6 But there went up a mist from the earth, and watered the whole face of the ground. 7 And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 8 And the LORD God planted a garden eastward in Eden; and there he put the man whom he had formed. 9 And out of the ground made the LORD God to grow every tree that is pleasant to the sight, and good for food; the tree of life also in the midst of the garden, and the tree of knowledge of good and evil.]
The life that we have in us at birth is the breath of life that God breathes into every human being. This is not what completes us, or as Jesus puts it, makes us whole, it is what keeps us alive on the earth. In order for us to be complete or whole we need God’s Spirit in our soul. Now, when God first created Adam His Spirit did live in his soul. God, gave Adam a name, set Him in the garden of Eden and gave him a job and one command, but at this point Adam was the only human.
[Genesis 2:15-19 And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it. 16 And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat: 17 But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die. 18 And the LORD God said, It is not good that the man should be alone; I will make him an help meet for him. 19 And out of the ground the LORD God formed every beast of the field, and every fowl of the air; and brought them unto Adam to see what he would call them: and whatsoever Adam called every living creature, that was the name thereof.]
Obviously Adam did not know what death meant, he was a baby at this point, and only had God to teach him. When we first come to the knowledge of God, we are like everyone else, eager for His attention, a bit scared because we are taught that if we disobey Him we will die, but until we truly understand what that death is we are ignorant to it. Now, while Adam was doing his job, God, began forming Eve from the dust just as He did Adam, but He did something else with Eve that came from Adam. So, God put Adam to sleep and performed the very first surgery.
[Genesis 2:21-25 And the LORD God caused a deep sleep to fall upon Adam, and he slept: and he took one of his ribs, and closed up the flesh instead thereof; 22 And the rib, which the LORD God had taken from man, made he a woman, and brought her unto the man. 23 And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man. 24 Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh. 25 And they were both naked, the man and his wife, and were not ashamed.]
Why was all this placed in this chapter and at this specific time? First; this was to show that from the very beginning God instituted marriage, it was to be sacred, and between one man and one woman only. Second; this was to show that the decisions made within the family are to be between the husband and wife, and not the family members, even if they live together. And third; this was to show the connection between the union of a man and woman with that of the union of man and Christ.
[Ephesians 5:20-25 Giving thanks always for all things unto God and the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ; 21 Submitting yourselves one to another in the fear of God. 22 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. 23 For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and he is the saviour of the body. 24 Therefore as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their own husbands in every thing. 25 Husbands, love your wives, even as Christ also loved the church, and gave himself for it;]
Jesus Christ Revealed/Magnified: [Genesis 1:26 And God said, Let us make man in our image, after our likeness: and let them have dominion over the fish of the sea, and over the fowl of the air, and over the cattle, and over all the earth, and over every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth.]
Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for another year that passed, a new one just beginning, for the hope of eternal life and for giving us Your truths to live by. Without You all is dark and void, but with You we can see the Light and a great year ahead. Lord, watch over us, guide us, instead of us making the resolutions, make them for us and show us what they are . Give us peace, comfort, confidence, and hope for a great, blessed, and prosperous year. Remind us of how fortunate we are to have Your Son in our lives as this world grows more evil by the day and what our purpose is. Also, let us not lose sight of the lost and make sure to tell them of the hope that is within us to get through even today. I pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
God Bless You, I am praying for you,
Christina
