Study: Give God A Little Bit More

Hello My Brother/Sister/Friend,

As I was reading the chapters for today I kept thinking, “THANK GOD FOR JESUS!” If not for the ultimate sacrifice that Jesus made for us we would still be offering up endless amounts of animals just to get right with God. I do not care how many animals you sacrifice or if you sacrificed everything you owned or even yourself, none of it would save you permanently. However, one sacrifice was all that was needed to give us redemption forever, and that was Jesus Himself. His life for mine, [Hebrews 10:4-5,10  For it is not possible that the blood of bulls and of goats should take away sins.  5  Wherefore when he cometh into the world, he saith, Sacrifice and offering thou wouldest not, but a body hast thou prepared me: 10  By the which will we are sanctified through the offering of the body of Jesus Christ once for all.]

For the thirty-eight years that the Israelites and everyone with them spent wandering in the wilderness/dessert there were so many things going on from the rebellions and worshiping of false gods that they stopped observing the feasts that God had instituted. As we continue in the reading of Numbers, it was time that the new generation start observing these. God, commands Moses to teach them about the offerings and sacrifices.

[Numbers 28:2-5,7  Command the children of Israel, and say unto them, My offering, and my bread for my sacrifices made by fire, for a sweet savour unto me, shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.  3  And thou shalt say unto them, This is the offering made by fire which ye shall offer unto the LORD; two lambs of the first year without spot day by day, for a continual burnt offering.  4  The one lamb shalt thou offer in the morning, and the other lamb shalt thou offer at even;  5  And a tenth part of an ephah of flour for a meat offering, mingled with the fourth part of an hin of beaten oil. 7  And the drink offering thereof shall be the fourth part of an hin for the one lamb: in the holy place shalt thou cause the strong wine to be poured unto the LORD for a drink offering.]

[shall ye observe to offer unto me in their due season.] God, has an order of service for everything, not only in how we get saved, but in what we do after we get saved as well. Our salvation is more than a free ticket out of hell, it is a train ride with quite a few twists and turns until we reach the promised land. It tell you what the journey is well worth the sacrifice that we make, [Philippians 3:8-11  Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,  9  And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:  10  That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;  11  If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.]

The daily sacrifice was to be offered every morning and evening, not one minute before morning, nor after the evening, but it must be offered according to His appointed time. All the rest of the offerings were to be offered at the proper time fixed as well, whether it be weekly, monthly, or yearly, which God goes on to elaborate.

[Numbers 28:9-11,24  And on the sabbath day two lambs of the first year without spot, and two tenth deals of flour for a meat offering, mingled with oil, and the drink offering thereof:  10  This is the burnt offering of every sabbath, beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.  11  And in the beginnings of your months ye shall offer a burnt offering unto the LORD; two young bullocks, and one ram, seven lambs of the first year without spot; 24  After this manner ye shall offer daily, throughout the seven days, the meat of the sacrifice made by fire, of a sweet savour unto the LORD: it shall be offered beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.]

[beside the continual burnt offering, and his drink offering.] This is in addition to the daily offerings, getting saved is just the beginning, and while we can get by in this life just by the thread of our salvation, we can get a little bit more by giving Him a little bit more of us, [Hebrews 6:9-10  But, beloved, we are persuaded better things of you, and things that accompany salvation, though we thus speak.  10  For God is not unrighteous to forget your work and labour of love, which ye have shewed toward his name, in that ye have ministered to the saints, and do minister.]

Did you notice that with every sacrifice, except for the daily sacrifices, a sin offering was made to make an atonement for their sin? Salvation does not keep us from sinning, as much as we would like to think that we are strong enough to resist sin, we cannot on our own. And this is why it is necessary for us to come to God, pretty much daily, confessing our sins. When things get really out of hand, we need to reflect on those things, and get right with God, which is why God instituted the Day of Atonement.

[Numbers 29:1,5-6,12,39  And in the seventh month, on the first day of the month, ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work: it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you. 5  And one kid of the goats for a sin offering, to make an atonement for you:  6  Beside the burnt offering of the month, and his meat offering, and the daily burnt offering, and his meat offering, and their drink offerings, according unto their manner, for a sweet savour, a sacrifice made by fire unto the LORD. 12  And on the fifteenth day of the seventh month ye shall have an holy convocation; ye shall do no servile work, and ye shall keep a feast unto the LORD seven days: 39  These things ye shall do unto the LORD in your set feasts, beside your vows, and your freewill offerings, for your burnt offerings, and for your meat offerings, and for your drink offerings, and for your peace offerings.]

[it is a day of blowing the trumpets unto you.] The feast of Trumpets was observed between September and October, and during this time there were more feasts to observe than any other time of the year, sort of like our time in America between Thanksgiving and New Years Day. These trumpets were not your average trumpet, they were rams horns, and some of them were very long and windy, and in order to get sound to come out of them took a lot of effort. Sometimes, we too need to take a little more effort in order to get God’s attention, and that is where prayer and fasting come in, [Matthew 17:20-21  And Jesus said unto them, Because of your unbelief: for verily I say unto you, If ye have faith as a grain of mustard seed, ye shall say unto this mountain, Remove hence to yonder place; and it shall remove; and nothing shall be impossible unto you.  21  Howbeit this kind goeth not out but by prayer and fasting.]

Why does God want us to spend so much time reflecting on the things we have done, in addition to what we do on a daily basis? It keeps us out of trouble, especially when we have time on our hands. Remember, they had just overcome a plague that happened as a result of their worshiping false gods, and that happened when they were just camped out there in Moab territory. As long as we keep our spiritual eyes open to Jesus, we will never fall. It really is a sacrifice to dedicate your life to Christ, and is something that even though He chooses for us, must be offered willingly. If we are going to make a vow to trust and accept that Christ alone will save our soul, then God expects us to follow through and do more than just get saved. God reiterates the importance of fulfilling our vows made to Him.

[Numbers 30:1-5  And Moses spake unto the heads of the tribes concerning the children of Israel, saying, This is the thing which the LORD hath commanded.  2  If a man vow a vow unto the LORD, or swear an oath to bind his soul with a bond; he shall not break his word, he shall do according to all that proceedeth out of his mouth.  3  If a woman also vow a vow unto the LORD, and bind herself by a bond, being in her father’s house in her youth;  4  And her father hear her vow, and her bond wherewith she hath bound her soul, and her father shall hold his peace at her: then all her vows shall stand, and every bond wherewith she hath bound her soul shall stand.  5  But if her father disallow her in the day that he heareth; not any of her vows, or of her bonds wherewith she hath bound her soul, shall stand: and the LORD shall forgive her, because her father disallowed her.]

[because her father disallowed her.] So, why was it that an unmarried woman or married woman was forgiven if she failed to follow through with her vow to God? This goes back to the woman being subjective to the man. A married woman lives in subjection to her husband, and often takes care of his needs, which God forgives because she is obligated to put her husband first. An unmarried woman, whether she is living in her father’s house or not, lives in subjection to her father because of his obligation to provide for her until she is married, [1 Corinthians 7:32-33  But I would have you without carefulness. He that is unmarried careth for the things that belong to the Lord, how he may please the Lord:  33  But he that is married careth for the things that are of the world, how he may please his wife.]

Today’s Prayer: God, All it takes for me to be reminded of the great sacrifice You made for me is to smell that bread baking or that meat roasting in the oven. It is the simple things that bring that sweet savor of Your love unto us, just like it is the simple act of receiving Your Son as our Saviour that brings that sweet savor of His flesh and blood unto You. Lord, I know that You have great plans for me, that my life is not really my own, but Yours to give as a living sacrifice. Lead me and guide me, let me live the rest of my life is subjection to Your will for my life, and give me Your mercy, grace, and the discernment I need to keep me from getting drowsy and falling into a spiritual sleep. Fill me with Your Holy Spirit power to fulfill Your will for my life, teach me, protect me, walk with me, and let me be wholly dedicated to You wherever You lead me. I ask this in Your name, Jesus Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
