Study: The Living Soul

Hello My Friend,

The soul, you cannot see it, taste it, or touch it, but you sure know it is there. And contrary to what many people believe that those who commit evil have no soul, the truth is, they too have a souls, but what they have are dead souls. To explain this, we have to go to the beginning of what God had said to Adam when He created man, [Genesis 2:7,15-17  And the LORD God formed man of the dust of the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living soul. 15  And the LORD God took the man, and put him into the garden of Eden to dress it and to keep it.  16  And the LORD God commanded the man, saying, Of every tree of the garden thou mayest freely eat:  17  But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.]

[and man became a living soul.] God breathed into the nose of Adam, and he became a living soul at first, with one caution, [But of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, thou shalt not eat of it: for in the day that thou eatest thereof thou shalt surely die.] And of course, we find shortly after,

[Genesis 3:6  And when the woman saw that the tree was good for food, and that it was pleasant to the eyes, and a tree to be desired to make one wise, she took of the fruit thereof, and did eat, and gave also unto her husband with her; and he did eat.] Right there, that is when their soul died, and that curse was passed down to all of us. What we all walk around with when we are first born in the flesh is the spirit of life, our soul is dead, and it is only when we come to the knowledge of Christ as accept Him as our Saviour that we are given life to our soul, which is the term known as being born again, [John 3:6-8  That which is born of the flesh is flesh; and that which is born of the Spirit is spirit.  7  Marvel not that I said unto thee, Ye must be born again.  8  The wind bloweth where it listeth, and thou hearest the sound thereof, but canst not tell whence it cometh, and whither it goeth: so is every one that is born of the Spirit.]

It is interesting that the term “born again” is only mentioned one other time in the Scriptures other than when Jesus spoke about it, [1 Peter 1:18-19,23  Forasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers;  19  But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: 23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.]

Of course, there are those who ask the question, what about people who died before Christ came here? Well, they too were actually saved by the same grace that we are, only it was their faith and faithfulness to God that counted for their salvation. Again, we can go back to the beginning to know this, [Genesis 15:1,5-6  After these things the word of the LORD came unto Abram in a vision, saying, Fear not, Abram: I am thy shield, and thy exceeding great reward. 5  And he brought him forth abroad, and said, Look now toward heaven, and tell the stars, if thou be able to number them: and he said unto him, So shall thy seed be.  6  And he believed in the LORD; and he counted it to him for righteousness.]

The word righteous means; Purity of heart and rectitude of life; conformity of heart and life to the divine law. The diving law is the Word of God, and while God does not expect us to remember every word written, He does expect us to be in it and learn from it. Abraham did not even have a Bible, but his heart was right with God and that is what saved him and every other believer up until Jesus gave His life in order to give life to our soul permanently. Now, as we continue in the reading of Proverbs, we find out some interesting, what I guess you can call statistics, regarding the soul that really make a lot of sense.

[Proverbs 19:1-2,8,15-18  Better is the poor that walketh in his integrity, than he that is perverse in his lips, and is a fool.  2  Also, that the soul be without knowledge, it is not good; and he that hasteth with his feet sinneth. 8  He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul: he that keepeth understanding shall find good. 15  Slothfulness casteth into a deep sleep; and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.  16  He that keepeth the commandment keepeth his own soul; but he that despiseth his ways shall die.  17  He that hath pity upon the poor lendeth unto the LORD; and that which he hath given will he pay him again.  18  Chasten thy son while there is hope, and let not thy soul spare for his crying.]

[He that getteth wisdom loveth his own soul:] The best and most important knowledge that we will ever receive is from the Word of God and how our soul can live. The wisdom that we get from it is the acceptance of not only the Gospel of Christ, but the entire Bible. Why? Do you think that God is going to grant you salvation if you only believe one part of His Word? Jesus, is the Word made flesh, and that means that it is all true, we cannot pick and choose what to believe, [John 1:1-4,14  In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  2  The same was in the beginning with God.  3  All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.  4  In him was life; and the life was the light of men. 14  And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.]

[and an idle soul shall suffer hunger.] An idle soul on top of a dead soul just sits there always seeking something to give life to it, and since it usually seeks fleshly desires, it is always hungry. And this is what Jesus does as well when we ask Him to save us, He is the bread that gives our soul what it needs and it will never hunger for anything from the flesh, [John 6:31-33  Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.  32  Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.  33  For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.]

You see, there is a difference between feeding our flesh, which is led by our heart and feeding our soul, which is led by our spirit. If we have the living Spirit of God inside of us, that is when our soul desires the spiritual food that it craves and that is when the Word of God feeds us also known as the counsel of the LORD. and we devour it, [Proverbs 19:20-23,27-29  Hear counsel, and receive instruction, that thou mayest be wise in thy latter end.  21  There are many devices in a man’s heart; nevertheless the counsel of the LORD, that shall stand.  22  The desire of a man is his kindness: and a poor man is better than a liar.  23  The fear of the LORD tendeth to life: and he that hath it shall abide satisfied; he shall not be visited with evil. 27  Cease, my son, to hear the instruction that causeth to err from the words of knowledge.  28  An ungodly witness scorneth judgment: and the mouth of the wicked devoureth iniquity.  29  Judgments are prepared for scorners, and stripes for the back of fools.]

[to hear the instruction that causeth to err] When we have the Word of God in us, and I mean all of it, not some watered down paraphrase version, we will cease from listening and trusting the lies. If I continued to keep trusting the false words of the Catholic religion, my soul still would be dead. And I tell you what, God knows all about it, and He is not one bit happy about the way these false religions have sent so many people to hell.

[Proverbs 20:22-25,27,30  Say not thou, I will recompense evil; but wait on the LORD, and he shall save thee.  23  Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD; and a false balance is not good.  24  Man’s goings are of the LORD; how can a man then understand his own way?  25  It is a snare to the man who devoureth that which is holy, and after vows to make enquiry. 27  The spirit of man is the candle of the LORD, searching all the inward parts of the belly. 30  The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil: so do stripes the inward parts of the belly.]

[Divers weights are an abomination unto the LORD;] [Divers: Different; various. Several; sundry; more than one, but not a great number.] There are several ways for the soul to get to heaven and live while the body returns to the dust that it is made from, well, that is what they want to convince you to believe and all of them are an abomination to God. I was taught that lie as well, but there is only one way to save your soul from what is actually death and hell and that is Jesus, [Acts 17:30-31  And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent:  31  Because he hath appointed a day, in the which he will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom he hath ordained; whereof he hath given assurance unto all men, in that he hath raised him from the dead.]

[The blueness of a wound cleanseth away evil:] It is often tragedy or illness that leads us to the truth of Christ, [2 Corinthians 7:10  For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death.]

Forget the fact that billions of people will die and end up in hell through the ignorance of their religion for a second. Do you realize how many people walk around in ignorance to the fact that they are living in sin? Divine intervention is the only way we can know, and understand that without Christ we perish. We all proclaim our own goodness, but that does not mean it lines up with what God sees as good.

[Proverbs 21:2-5,15-18  Every way of a man is right in his own eyes: but the LORD pondereth the hearts.  3  To do justice and judgment is more acceptable to the LORD than sacrifice.  4  An high look, and a proud heart, and the plowing of the wicked, is sin.  5  The thoughts of the diligent tend only to plenteousness; but of every one that is hasty only to want. 15  It is joy to the just to do judgment: but destruction shall be to the workers of iniquity.  16  The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding shall remain in the congregation of the dead.  17  He that loveth pleasure shall be a poor man: he that loveth wine and oil shall not be rich.  18  The wicked shall be a ransom for the righteous, and the transgressor for the upright.]

[The man that wandereth out of the way of understanding] We are not perfect, and we never will be until we get to heaven. We carry around a lot of baggage with us because we are sinners saved by grace, and because we are sinners, we can expect chastening from our Father when we do wrong. A person who never yields to the Word of God or has no desire to apply it to their lives will quickly wander from their salvation, it is how Jesus describes the seed meaning the Word, planted in different types of soil, meaning the heart, [Matthew 13:19-21  When any one heareth the word of the kingdom, and understandeth it not, then cometh the wicked one, and catcheth away that which was sown in his heart. This is he which received seed by the way side.  20  But he that received the seed into stony places, the same is he that heareth the word, and anon with joy receiveth it;  21  Yet hath he not root in himself, but dureth for a while: for when tribulation or persecution ariseth because of the word, by and by he is offended.]

Okay, we must admit it, we all have something that we desire in life, and the longer we go without getting it the more trying it is on our spirit, and that causes our heart to desire it more. And in some cases, we have done things less desirable in an attempt to get them. Let me tell you, not everything we desire is good for us nor is it something God wants for us because of what He sees that it would do to us. God knows this, He knows our heart, and what we really want deep down inside, and He is going to test us on this.

[Proverbs 21:21-27,31  He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life, righteousness, and honour.  22  A wise man scaleth the city of the mighty, and casteth down the strength of the confidence thereof.  23  Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.  24  Proud and haughty scorner is his name, who dealeth in proud wrath.  25  The desire of the slothful killeth him; for his hands refuse to labour.  26  He coveteth greedily all the day long: but the righteous giveth and spareth not.  27  The sacrifice of the wicked is abomination: how much more, when he bringeth it with a wicked mind? 31  The horse is prepared against the day of battle: but safety is of the LORD.]

[He that followeth after righteousness and mercy findeth life,] Those who follow righteousness are led right to Jesus, who is our righteousness, and our mercy. Sin always leads to death, it does not matter if we are saved or not, we are one day closer to the grave because that is the curse God placed on all mankind. Jesus broke that curse, when He resurrected, and when we accept Him as our Saviour, He removes that curse of death from our soul as long as we believe that. One day all the bodies of the saved souls will resurrect also, and death will be gone forever, [1 Corinthians 15:52-54  In a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised incorruptible, and we shall be changed.  53  For this corruptible must put on incorruption, and this mortal must put on immortality.  54  So when this corruptible shall have put on incorruption, and this mortal shall have put on immortality, then shall be brought to pass the saying that is written, Death is swallowed up in victory.]

What about those who are alive when Jesus returns and all the dead in Christ are raised? Well, they will be raptured out of here, [1 Thessalonians 4:16-17  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:  17  Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.]

[The horse is prepared against the day of battle:] It does not matter if we know we are going to heaven until Jesus returns, we still need God’s mercies every day because no matter how much we attempt to keep ourselves from sin it just draws naturally to us. Praise God, for His mercy, and we need to be thanking Him all day long for them. Jesus Himself said, [Revelation 16:15  Behold, I come as a thief. Blessed is he that watcheth, and keepeth his garments, lest he walk naked, and they see his shame.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for Your mercy, Your grace, and the peace You give us when we turn to Jesus for the things we need, desire, and to remove the sinful things from our lives as we learn Your Word and apply it to our walk with You. Lord, We all have needs and desires, lead us and guide us so that we can obtain them in Your will. Give us patience to wait on Your timing and let us not become weary in doing what is right. Nothing is impossible with You on our side, in fact, Your grace is sufficient enough to see us through. Give us Your strength and power to remain faithful and remove any sin that befalls us. Let us not be tempted to seek help from the world, but seek You, who will give us all we want and need simply by trusting You. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
