Study: It Truly Is Finished

Hello My Friend,

As I was reading the chapters for today, I thought about Jesus hanging on the cross and the very last words that He said, before He said, “It is finished”, [Matthew 27:46,  And about the ninth hour Jesus cried with a loud voice, saying, Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani? that is to say, My God, my God, why hast thou forsaken me? John 19:28-30  After this, Jesus knowing that all things were now accomplished, that the scripture might be fulfilled, saith, I thirst.  29  Now there was set a vessel full of vinegar: and they filled a spunge with vinegar, and put it upon hyssop, and put it to his mouth.  30  When Jesus therefore had received the vinegar, he said, It is finished: and he bowed his head, and gave up the ghost.]

I just realized that John was the only one who had written the words, [It is finished:], others said that He cried with a loud voice that second time, but did not mention the words that He said before He died. John was also the only disciple to actually be there when Jesus was hanging on the cross, the others were scattered, probably, like Peter, were careful to look from afar, but they all ran, just as Jesus said they would, and it was just out of fear, [Matthew 26:31-32  Then saith Jesus unto them, All ye shall be offended because of me this night: for it is written, I will smite the shepherd, and the sheep of the flock shall be scattered abroad.  32  But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.]

Did you know that when Jesus cried out, [Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?] it was the only time that He addressed God as God, and not His Father? You see, when Jesus was up there, God could not look at Him because He was covered in the sins of every soul, even the ones that will come before Jesus returns. Once He died, that is when God smelled that sweet savor and accepted His sacrifice as the atonement for sin, [Hebrews 10:12-14  But this man, after he had offered one sacrifice for sins for ever, sat down on the right hand of God;  13  From henceforth expecting till his enemies be made his footstool.  14  For by one offering he hath perfected for ever them that are sanctified.]

Did you noticed that even through Jesus knew the disciples would run, that He told them that He would find them when He resurrected? Oh, to be a lost soul in this world is truly something we do not realize until we wake up one day and literally feel like we are dead. And our soul really is dead until we receive Christ as our Saviour, and that is where the term being born again comes into play, [John 3:3,13-15  Jesus answered and said unto him, Verily, verily, I say unto thee, Except a man be born again, he cannot see the kingdom of God. 13-15  And no man hath ascended up to heaven, but he that came down from heaven, even the Son of man which is in heaven.  14  And as Moses lifted up the serpent in the wilderness, even so must the Son of man be lifted up:  15  That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.]

I tell you what, there is nothing more eye opening to bring one to Christ than affliction, especially when it strikes our body. We are pretty good at enduring things like hardships or fighting with family, but when we are hurting, whether it be physically, mentally, or even spiritually, that is when it can seem unbearable. I think one of the first things that the faithful Christian does when they or a loved one gets sick is ask God if there is something they have done that He is angry about. When I was praying this morning, I did not ask God to remove the pain, but help me through it. And just like He always does when I get like this, He answered me with this Psalm.

[Psalms 38:1-8  A Psalm of David, to bring to remembrance. O LORD, rebuke me not in thy wrath: neither chasten me in thy hot displeasure.  2  For thine arrows stick fast in me, and thy hand presseth me sore.  3  There is no soundness in my flesh because of thine anger; neither is there any rest in my bones because of my sin.  4  For mine iniquities are gone over mine head: as an heavy burden they are too heavy for me.  5  My wounds stink and are corrupt because of my foolishness.  6  I am troubled; I am bowed down greatly; I go mourning all the day long.  7  For my loins are filled with a loathsome disease: and there is no soundness in my flesh.  8  I am feeble and sore broken: I have roared by reason of the disquietness of my heart.]

[I go mourning all the day long.] When we realize that we failed God, it can take toll on our mental health as well as spiritual, we are hurting so much from the pain that we caused that it can literally feel like God is done with us. And let me tell you, the only voice that is telling you that is Satan, our number one enemy, and he would like nothing more than to see us fall flat on our faces and not get back up.

[Psalms 38:15-22  For in thee, O LORD, do I hope: thou wilt hear, O Lord my God.  16  For I said, Hear me, lest otherwise they should rejoice over me: when my foot slippeth, they magnify themselves against me.  17  For I am ready to halt, and my sorrow is continually before me.  18  For I will declare mine iniquity; I will be sorry for my sin.  19  But mine enemies are lively, and they are strong: and they that hate me wrongfully are multiplied.  20  They also that render evil for good are mine adversaries; because I follow the thing that good is.  21  Forsake me not, O LORD: O my God, be not far from me.  22  Make haste to help me, O Lord my salvation.]

[when my foot slippeth,] You better believe that there are some people out there just waiting to see us fall and go into this abyss that proves that we are not the Christians that we appeared to be. Well, Jesus will have the last laugh on them, [1 Peter 3:12-16  For the eyes of the Lord are over the righteous, and his ears are open unto their prayers: but the face of the Lord is against them that do evil.  13  And who is he that will harm you, if ye be followers of that which is good?  14  But and if ye suffer for righteousness’ sake, happy are ye: and be not afraid of their terror, neither be troubled;  15  But sanctify the Lord God in your hearts: and be ready always to give an answer to every man that asketh you a reason of the hope that is in you with meekness and fear:  16  Having a good conscience; that, whereas they speak evil of you, as of evildoers, they may be ashamed that falsely accuse your good conversation in Christ.]

I have had people say to me, “I thought you were a Christian!”, that was usually after I did not give them what they wanted or did not agree with what they were doing. I have to tell you that sometimes, Satan is really good at mimicking God, especially when he knows what our true desires are. Something can appear as though it is God blessing us, when it really is Satan trying to make us believe that and fall into his trap. And do not say that it could never happen to you, remember, [2 Corinthians 11:13-14  For such are false apostles, deceitful workers, transforming themselves into the apostles of Christ.  14  And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.]

I have come to the conclusion as I too have succumbed a time or two to Satan’s devices, that while God does allow Satan to tempt us, even try us, and even fall into his trap, He will never let go of us. God knows what is deep down in our soul, and that is His Son, Jesus Christ, His blood in fact. David understood, not the blood, but that the LORD will preserve him, even when he feels like he is all alone.

[Psalms 41:1-2,9-13  To the chief Musician, A Psalm of David. Blessed is he that considereth the poor: the LORD will deliver him in time of trouble.  2  The LORD will preserve him, and keep him alive; and he shall be blessed upon the earth: and thou wilt not deliver him unto the will of his enemies. 9  Yea, mine own familiar friend, in whom I trusted, which did eat of my bread, hath lifted up his heel against me.  10  But thou, O LORD, be merciful unto me, and raise me up, that I may requite them.  11  By this I know that thou favourest me, because mine enemy doth not triumph over me.  12  And as for me, thou upholdest me in mine integrity, and settest me before thy face for ever.  13  Blessed be the LORD God of Israel from everlasting, and to everlasting. Amen, and Amen.]

[Blessed is he that considereth the poor:] The word poor is not necessarily about having no money or living in poverty, there are different ways of being poor, which have nothing to do with money. [Poor; Destitute of strength, beauty or dignity; barren; unhappy; pitiable; of little worth; unimportant;] How often do you tell yourself that you are a nobody, and that no one would even care if you were gone. Well, Jesus does not see it that way, He died for you, remember? You mean more than anything to Him. And let me tell you, even after we are saved, our soul needs that reminder sometimes as well.

[Psalms 42:1-4,8,11  To the chief Musician, Maschil, for the sons of Korah. As the hart panteth after the water brooks, so panteth my soul after thee, O God.  2  My soul thirsteth for God, for the living God: when shall I come and appear before God?  3  My tears have been my meat day and night, while they continually say unto me, Where is thy God?  4  When I remember these things, I pour out my soul in me: for I had gone with the multitude, I went with them to the house of God, with the voice of joy and praise, with a multitude that kept holyday. 8  Yet the LORD will command his lovingkindness in the daytime, and in the night his song shall be with me, and my prayer unto the God of my life. 11  Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.]

[Why art thou cast down, O my soul?] It does not matter what you are going through, even if you did make a mess of your life, if you have accepted Christ as your Saviour, He is living inside of you. That means all you need to do to revive your soul is call out to Jesus, and it really does help a lot. Remember what Jesus said to the disciples when He knew they were going to run while He was on the cross? [But after I am risen again, I will go before you into Galilee.] He was not lying, He did show up, He fussed at them, but He still showed up, [Mark 16:14-17  Afterward he appeared unto the eleven as they sat at meat, and upbraided them with their unbelief and hardness of heart, because they believed not them which had seen him after he was risen.  15  And he said unto them, Go ye into all the world, and preach the gospel to every creature.  16  He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.  17  And these signs shall follow them that believe; In my name shall they cast out devils; they shall speak with new tongues;]

The baptism that Jesus is talking about is when they believed and accepted Him as their Saviour, once you do that that is when the Holy Spirit comes into your soul and you are born again, []

Yes, the disciples had to do the same thing that we do in order to be saved. And we do have the power to cast out devils, they can still tempt us, but they cannot touch our soul because it belongs to Jesus. Likewise, we do speak a new language, God’s language in fact. No one, but those whom have accepted Christ as their Saviour can understand His Word and what He is tell them, [1 Corinthians 2:9-10  But as it is written, Eye hath not seen, nor ear heard, neither have entered into the heart of man, the things which God hath prepared for them that love him.  10  But God hath revealed them unto us by his Spirit: for the Spirit searcheth all things, yea, the deep things of God.]

Did you know that in order to be healed from our pain sometimes we need to go through more pain? Look at the pain that Jesus went through, and He actually died, but then He overcame that too when He resurrected. We too are going to do the same thing, death is not final for the saved, born again, Christian. One of my favorite Psalms is Psalm 5.

[Psalms 5:1-3,8,10-12  To the chief Musician upon Nehiloth, A Psalm of David. Give ear to my words, O LORD, consider my meditation.  2  Hearken unto the voice of my cry, my King, and my God: for unto thee will I pray.  3  My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.  8  Lead me, O LORD, in thy righteousness because of mine enemies; make thy way straight before my face. 10  Destroy thou them, O God; let them fall by their own counsels; cast them out in the multitude of their transgressions; for they have rebelled against thee.  11  But let all those that put their trust in thee rejoice: let them ever shout for joy, because thou defendest them: let them also that love thy name be joyful in thee.  12  For thou, LORD, wilt bless the righteous; with favour wilt thou compass him as with a shield.]

[direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.] Psalm 5:1-3, is typically what say before I start praying, but when I am pressed for time, I just say a few words to Him and let Him talk to me through His Word. For years, this would eat me up as I kept it in the back of my head that God will not bless me if I am not praying to Him, (and I am talking about praying for myself here, not others). And every single time, God reminds me that I do not actually have to speak a word, I just need to look up, [Hebrews 12:1-2  Wherefore seeing we also are compassed about with so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which doth so easily beset us, and let us run with patience the race that is set before us,  2  Looking unto Jesus the author and finisher of our faith; who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is set down at the right hand of the throne of God.]

[for they have rebelled against thee.] And do not worry too much about Satan, he knows where he is going, and everyone else who mocked and afflicted us, even though he will try until he is cast into the lake of fire to overthrow God’s plan, [Revelation 20:10,14-15  And the devil that deceived them was cast into the lake of fire and brimstone, where the beast and the false prophet are, and shall be tormented day and night for ever and ever. 14  And death and hell were cast into the lake of fire. This is the second death.  15  And whosoever was not found written in the book of life was cast into the lake of fire.]

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You, for sending Your Son to not only save my soul, but give life to it. It truly is finished, and I know that it was not easy to see Your Son hanging there on the cross, in fact, You even had to turn Your head from looking at Him that way because He was covered in our sins. Until we come to the knowledge of Your Son, we truly are lost and it is no wonder why we wander this earth trying to find something that will make us feel alive. Thank You, for loving me and not giving up on me, and for showing me the truth about Your Son, for I truly was lost until I found out the truth and accepted Him as my Saviour. I too was baptized with the Holy Spirit and can truly feel His life inside of me, even though I do not always listen to Him. Thank You, also for Your mercy and grace, for it truly does endure. And I know that until You bring me home that I will suffer a lot of affliction, but I will rejoice knowing that You are with me, and You maintain my soul, even when Satan tries to tell me otherwise. I love You and need You, I am nothing without You, and all I want to do today is tell You that. I pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
