Study: The Sons of God

Hello My Friend,

Happy Mother’s Day, to all the mothers out there, whether you are a mother though biology, marriage, adoption, guardianship, or as I am, a mother to many. It is not easy being a parent, especially in this day and age, and while many are quick to forfeit that wonderful opportunity of parenthood, a huge thank you to those who press on and do not give up that right. Godly women, who happen to never have had children of their own definitely have God’s blessings upon them, [Psalms 113:1-3,9  Praise ye the LORD. Praise, O ye servants of the LORD, praise the name of the LORD.  2  Blessed be the name of the LORD from this time forth and for evermore.  3  From the rising of the sun unto the going down of the same the LORD’S name is to be praised. 9  He maketh the barren woman to keep house, and to be a joyful mother of children. Praise ye the LORD.]

As I was reading these chapters I could not help, but think of the times in my life when Jesus was not in it and how He watched over me and protected me even then. Before I knew what Jesus was all about, I like, many others only thought of God as a religion, if I wanted a relationship with Him, then I had to obey that religion, and if I did not I was rejected by God. It took me a while to figure it out, but after a lot of heartache, and a lot of wrong decisions, I discovered, God is not a religion, He is God, and a relationship with Him must first begin with His Son. And as we return to the reading of 1 Chronicles, it also gives the account to David wanting to build a house of worship for God.

[1 Chronicles 17:1-5  Now it came to pass, as David sat in his house, that David said to Nathan the prophet, Lo, I dwell in an house of cedars, but the ark of the covenant of the LORD remaineth under curtains.  2  Then Nathan said unto David, Do all that is in thine heart; for God is with thee.  3  And it came to pass the same night, that the word of God came to Nathan, saying,  4  Go and tell David my servant, Thus saith the LORD, Thou shalt not build me an house to dwell in:  5  For I have not dwelt in an house since the day that I brought up Israel unto this day; but have gone from tent to tent, and from one tabernacle to another.]

[but have gone from tent to tent,] Back then, the Holy Spirit did not remain inside people, God would place Him where He would use them. The prophets, priests, and those who had penned the Bible, are all examples of those whom God had given His Spirit to convey what He wanted His people to know. This is why believers before Christ’s passion would go to a priest or prophet, they were their intercessor to God. Today, we are blessed to have the Holy Spirit living inside of us the second we accept Christ as our Saviour, and that is the only way that we can communicate with God. We still need an intercessor, and He is the one who stands next to His and our Father, [Romans 8:34  Who is he that condemneth? It is Christ that died, yea rather, that is risen again, who is even at the right hand of God, who also maketh intercession for us.]

If you are led to believe that you must go to a priest or pastor in order for God to answer your prayers, then you have been misled. Men and women of God can indeed pray for us, and they can help answer our questions, and minister to us, but they cannot speak to God on our behalf, only Jesus can. Why? Well, it is basically for the same reason that He chose David’s lineage to bring His own Son. There cannot be several ways to God, there is only one way, and if we cannot accept that, then God will not accept us, [2 Timothy 2:11-13  It is a faithful saying: For if we be dead with him, we shall also live with him:  12  If we suffer, we shall also reign with him: if we deny him, he also will deny us:  13  If we believe not, yet he abideth faithful: he cannot deny himself.]

If God wanted them to build the temple He would have given them instructions on how to do it, just like He did the tabernacle. Even when it comes to doing things for Him, it has to be in His time, and how He says. He will tell us exactly what He wants us to do, and when, we just have to listen to Him. Well, God goes on to tell David of His plan to establish His own house through one of his sons.

[1 Chronicles 17:10-14  And since the time that I commanded judges to be over my people Israel. Moreover I will subdue all thine enemies. Furthermore I tell thee that the LORD will build thee an house.  11  And it shall come to pass, when thy days be expired that thou must go to be with thy fathers, that I will raise up thy seed after thee, which shall be of thy sons; and I will establish his kingdom.  12  He shall build me an house, and I will stablish his throne for ever.  13  I will be his father, and he shall be my son: and I will not take my mercy away from him, as I took it from him that was before thee:  14  But I will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever: and his throne shall be established for evermore.]

[will settle him in mine house and in my kingdom for ever:] Once you belong to Christ, you are settled in God’s house and kingdom forever. The only way that this would be null and void is if their salvation was in vain or they believed some other form of the Gospel. It does not matter if you believe that Jesus died for you, you must also believe that He was born of a virgin, lived a sinless life, was buried in a tomb, and three days later arose from the dead. Believing in any other variation is not believing in the Gospel, and therefore, their salvation would be vain, [Galatians 1:6-8  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.  8  But though we, or an angel from heaven, preach any other gospel unto you than that which we have preached unto you, let him be accursed.]

God kept His promise to David and used his lineage to send His only begotten Son through because he was humble and never thought of himself as a king or ruler, just a man who needed God to get him through each day. We get nowhere with God through pride, but we get more than we ever dreamed of when we stay humble.

[Psalms 25:1-7  A Psalm of David. Unto thee, O LORD, do I lift up my soul.  2  O my God, I trust in thee: let me not be ashamed, let not mine enemies triumph over me.  3  Yea, let none that wait on thee be ashamed: let them be ashamed which transgress without cause.  4  Shew me thy ways, O LORD; teach me thy paths.  5  Lead me in thy truth, and teach me: for thou art the God of my salvation; on thee do I wait all the day.  6  Remember, O LORD, thy tender mercies and thy lovingkindnesses; for they have been ever of old.  7  Remember not the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions: according to thy mercy remember thou me for thy goodness’ sake, O LORD.]

[on thee do I wait all the day.] As I see myself, for the first time in decades, with a vision that is coming together with God’s hand upon it. I am careful to not get ahead of myself, for I know that I cannot do this without God, and I certainly know that I am not smart enough to do it on my own. I have said it before, and I will say it until God brings me home, salvation has never been about works, but solely upon ones faith and faithfulness to God. Our righteousness is what reveals to the world that we belong to God. David was quick to remind himself of the fact that God only reveals Himself to those who fear Him.

[Psalms 25:14-21  The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.  15  Mine eyes are ever toward the LORD; for he shall pluck my feet out of the net.  16  Turn thee unto me, and have mercy upon me; for I am desolate and afflicted.  17  The troubles of my heart are enlarged: O bring thou me out of my distresses.  18  Look upon mine affliction and my pain; and forgive all my sins.  19  Consider mine enemies; for they are many; and they hate me with cruel hatred.  20  O keep my soul, and deliver me: let me not be ashamed; for I put my trust in thee.  21  Let integrity and uprightness preserve me; for I wait on thee.]

[The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him;] I use to say that fearing God means that we are to come to Him with the fear of not having Him in our lives. Well, besides the fact that fearing God does mean that God wants us to love, honor, and respect Him alone and not some false god, we should be living our lives in fear of not having Him in our lives. Why? Well, if we are living in sin can we expect God to respect the way that we are living? That is not how it works. Our salvation was not given to us so that we can justify our sins, it was given to us to justify Christ, who died for our sins, [Romans 6:1-4  What shall we say then? Shall we continue in sin, that grace may abound?  2  God forbid. How shall we, that are dead to sin, live any longer therein?  3  Know ye not, that so many of us as were baptized into Jesus Christ were baptized into his death?  4  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.]

Being a child of God is not the same as being a child of men. There is only one way to be a child of God, and that is through our faith and acceptance of Jesus Christ as our Saviour. The blessings that God gives to His children are passed down to the children of men because of His mercies and grace upon His children. We may not understand all His ways, and we will honestly never comprehend His love toward us, and the great sacrifice He made to show that love. All we can do to thank Him is give our heart to Him, and praise our KING.

[Psalms 29:1-3,9-11  A Psalm of David. Give unto the LORD, O ye mighty, give unto the LORD glory and strength.  2  Give unto the LORD the glory due unto his name; worship the LORD in the beauty of holiness.  3  The voice of the LORD is upon the waters: the God of glory thundereth: the LORD is upon many waters. 9  The voice of the LORD maketh the hinds to calve, and discovereth the forests: and in his temple doth every one speak of his glory.  10  The LORD sitteth upon the flood; yea, the LORD sitteth King for ever.  11  The LORD will give strength unto his people; the LORD will bless his people with peace.]

[the LORD will bless his people with peace.] The second we get saved and start seeing the blessings from God, we become eager to serve Him more so that we are able to receive more blessings. It is not necessarily that we are bargaining with God, as to say, “If you do this for me, then I will do that for You.” If we are quite honest with ourselves, if we only have our salvation, that is already more than enough that God has given us. And let me tell you, the more you walk with Christ the more you realize just how wretched your flesh is. I spent an hour today telling God just how bad I felt about neglecting Him, all the while counting my many blessings, knowing I deserve none of it, but the hardships. And that is exactly when we learn of the peace the God gives us that passes all understanding, [Philippians 4:6-7  Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known unto God.  7  And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.]

Just like our earthly fathers, God wants the best for His children, His heart truly goes out to us, His thoughts toward us are only great, and the trials we go through, many of them of our own doing, are used to prepare us for the amazing life awaiting in His Kingdom. Amen! Until He brings us home, He is our strength, our help, our shield, our protection, and with our own hearts we can rejoice in Him as He blesses us through our faithfulness to Him.

[Psalms 33:1,8,12-13,18-22  Rejoice in the LORD, O ye righteous: for praise is comely for the upright. 8  Let all the earth fear the LORD: let all the inhabitants of the world stand in awe of him. 12  Blessed is the nation whose God is the LORD; and the people whom he hath chosen for his own inheritance.  13  The LORD looketh from heaven; he beholdeth all the sons of men. 18  Behold, the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him, upon them that hope in his mercy;  19  To deliver their soul from death, and to keep them alive in famine.  20  Our soul waiteth for the LORD: he is our help and our shield.  21  For our heart shall rejoice in him, because we have trusted in his holy name.  22  Let thy mercy, O LORD, be upon us, according as we hope in thee.]

[the eye of the LORD is upon them that fear him,] Let me tell you, nothing in this life can save us, apart from Christ. Nothing in this world is more powerful than Christ, His heart, eyes, ears, and blood is upon those whom have accepted Him as their Saviour. Once we accept Him, He is with us forever, whenever we feel overburdened, restless, and no peace within our soul, we need to come to Jesus, for He is our rest, [Hebrews 4:10-12  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  11  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.  12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.]

Today’s Prayer: God, The love you have for all your creation is astounding, and yet so many are hardhearted to that love. Your heart itself is amazing, to love us so much that You sent your only begotten Son, that we might receive eternal life through our faith and acceptance of Him alone as our Saviour. Lord, there is nothing we can do to earn or keep our salvation because it has been bought and paid for by Your Son, but we can be the example that Christ gave us so that others can be saved as well. Lead us and guide us, open and tender our hearts to love as You love, teach us to have a heart like Jesus, and be willing to show them the same love as You have shown us. As we become more like Your Son, protect, and shield us from the evils that lurk about, and let us not become weary in well doing. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
