Message: I Shall Overcome

Hello My Friend,

My mind is everywhere this morning, I am still not feeling too good, even laid back down for a little bit after I read the Bible in hopes that I would feel better when I get up. Did you ever feel good deep down inside yourself, but at the same time you feel really bad? That is the way I felt this morning. I feel the Holy Spirit inside of me giving me those good feelings that I can do all things through Christ, and at the same time I feel this despair that I know is all Satan. In fact, I have felt that way every morning for the past few weeks. Let me tell you, there is a certain comfort that every saved, born again faithful Christian has whom have endured the challenges that come with life through their faith in Christ. That is the day that we will be with Jesus.

[Revelation 21:3-4,6-7  And I heard a great voice out of heaven saying, Behold, the tabernacle of God is with men, and he will dwell with them, and they shall be his people, and God himself shall be with them, and be their God.  4  And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away. 6  And he said unto me, It is done. I am Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end. I will give unto him that is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely.  7  He that overcometh shall inherit all things; and I will be his God, and he shall be my son.]

I have come to the conclusion that the second people learn of your faith in Christ they will taunt you until either you or they leave. Life is challenging enough as it is without all these extra burdens, but I will tell you what, I know that I belong to Jesus, and they can taunt me all they want, nothing they do can separate me from my Jesus, [Romans 8:38-39  For I am persuaded, that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor powers, nor things present, nor things to come,  39  Nor height, nor depth, nor any other creature, shall be able to separate us from the love of God, which is in Christ Jesus our Lord.]

[Separation; To disunite; to divide; to sever; to part, in almost any manner, either things naturally or casually joined.] Satan is behind every single challenge to get those who belong to Christ to change their faith in Him. If he can get a believer so angry at God that they turn against Christ, then he has accomplished his mission. And he will throw every dart that he can to achieve that, but what he fails to comprehend is that a true believer of Christ cannot be separated from Him no matter how many darts he throws. You see, a true believer will never waver in their faith in Christ because they are not just a soul that is saved by grace, they become one with Him, just like a man and woman who gets married. Yes, a relationship with God is like a marriage, it has its ups a downs, but they are one and therefore, nothing can separate them. Now, as we continue in the reading of the Gospels, marriage comes up because the Pharisees decide to question Jesus about divorce.

[Matthew 19:1-6  And it came to pass, that when Jesus had finished these sayings, he departed from Galilee, and came into the coasts of Judaea beyond Jordan;  2  And great multitudes followed him; and he healed them there.  3  The Pharisees also came unto him, tempting him, and saying unto him, Is it lawful for a man to put away his wife for every cause?  4  And he answered and said unto them, Have ye not read, that he which made them at the beginning made them male and female,  5  And said, For this cause shall a man leave father and mother, and shall cleave to his wife: and they twain shall be one flesh?  6  Wherefore they are no more twain, but one flesh. What therefore God hath joined together, let not man put asunder.]

[put away his wife for every cause?] Do you see how it is worded here? Divorce was so common among the Jews that whenever a man decided he did not desire his wife anymore he would divorce her, being justified by the Law. They wanted to know if a man can divorce his wife for any reason, which is why Jesus responded by saying, [Matthew 19:9  And I say unto you, Whosoever shall put away his wife, except it be for fornication, and shall marry another, committeth adultery: and whoso marrieth her which is put away doth commit adultery.]

[and they twain shall be one flesh?] So, Jesus takes us back to the original constitution of marriage [Genesis 2:23-24  And Adam said, This is now bone of my bones, and flesh of my flesh: she shall be called Woman, because she was taken out of Man.  24  Therefore shall a man leave his father and his mother, and shall cleave unto his wife: and they shall be one flesh.].

[let not man put asunder.] Asunder is another word for separate, God is the one who came up with the institution of marriage, it is something very sacred to Him. Why? Because it relates to His relationship with man. The second we receive Christ as our Saviour we enter into a marriage with Him, and nothing, except adultery can separate them from Him. So, how does adultery committed on a husband or wife relate to our faith in God? Well, adultery is cheating, if we say that we believe in Christ as our Saviour, and accept Him as such, but are trusting in some religion that has actually altered the Gospel to suit their own flesh, then we would cheating on God. In fact, we would not be saved at all because when we come to Christ we must believe that He alone is our salvation, [Galatians 1:6-7  I marvel that ye are so soon removed from him that called you into the grace of Christ unto another gospel:  7  Which is not another; but there be some that trouble you, and would pervert the gospel of Christ.]

One man, one woman, and nothing shall separate them, except for breaking the marriage vow. The disciples were quite surprised by what Jesus said, and asked Him if man should ever be married, [Matthew 19:10-12  His disciples say unto him, If the case of the man be so with his wife, it is not good to marry.  11  But he said unto them, All men cannot receive this saying, save they to whom it is given.  12  For there are some eunuchs, which were so born from their mother’s womb: and there are some eunuchs, which were made eunuchs of men: and there be eunuchs, which have made themselves eunuchs for the kingdom of heaven’s sake. He that is able to receive it, let him receive it.]

[All men cannot receive this saying,] What Jesus is referring to is those who choose to remain celibate their entire life or for the rest of their lives after they get saved. It is very hard for a man to stay celibate, but Paul said it thus way, [1 Corinthians 7:7-9  For I would that all men were even as I myself. But every man hath his proper gift of God, one after this manner, and another after that.  8  I say therefore to the unmarried and widows, It is good for them if they abide even as I.  9  But if they cannot contain, let them marry: for it is better to marry than to burn.]

When we accept Christ as our Saviour, the Holy Spirit teaches us that God’s commands are not grievous, and let me tell you, sometimes, God will use judgment to put fear in the congregation to show them that He means business, other times He uses grace. Both, Matthew and Mark also tell the story of the rich man who asked Jesus what he must do to inherit eternal life.

[Matthew 19:16-22  And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall I do, that I may have eternal life?  17  And he said unto him, Why callest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God: but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments.  18  He saith unto him, Which? Jesus said, Thou shalt do no murder, Thou shalt not commit adultery, Thou shalt not steal, Thou shalt not bear false witness,  19  Honour thy father and thy mother: and, Thou shalt love thy neighbour as thyself.  20  The young man saith unto him, All these things have I kept from my youth up: what lack I yet?  21  Jesus said unto him, If thou wilt be perfect, go and sell that thou hast, and give to the poor, and thou shalt have treasure in heaven: and come and follow me.  22  But when the young man heard that saying, he went away sorrowful: for he had great possessions.]

[Why callest thou me good?] When Jesus asked him this He was referring to good as being perfect. The Bible says, [Romans 3:23  For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;]. That means we come short of being good or perfect in order to get into heaven on our own. Now, that got Peter wondering where that left them since they gave up everything they had and followed Jesus, [Matthew 19:27-30  Then answered Peter and said unto him, Behold, we have forsaken all, and followed thee; what shall we have therefore?  28  And Jesus said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That ye which have followed me, in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, ye also shall sit upon twelve thrones, judging the twelve tribes of Israel.  29  And every one that hath forsaken houses, or brethren, or sisters, or father, or mother, or wife, or children, or lands, for my name’s sake, shall receive an hundredfold, and shall inherit everlasting life.  30  But many that are first shall be last; and the last shall be first.]

[shall sit in the throne of his glory,] This is actually what is going to take place when Jesus returns, the apostles are actually going to judge the twelve tribes of Israel for their sin of not only rejecting Jesus, but crucifying Him. Each and everyone one of them will stand before them and be judged according to their works, [2 Corinthians 5:10  For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ; that every one may receive the things done in his body, according to that he hath done, whether it be good or bad.]

Now, regardless of how long ago or recently we accepted Christ as our Saviour, all who believe in and receive Him will be in the kingdom of God, some will just stay here to be used of Christ a bit longer. A faithful Christian is not sinless, but does live their lives with Him in it, and understands that they will face some suffering because of their faith. However, if you are not saved none of that will matter because God does not see what you are going through. We have to realize that we all have a cup to bare, there are things that we are going to go through, things that no one else will, but they all lead to the same place, the Kingdom of God. Jesus illustrates this as James and John, desiring to be next to Jesus when He takes His throne, asks Him to grant their request.

[Mark 10:35-38,41-45  And James and John, the sons of Zebedee, come unto him, saying, Master, we would that thou shouldest do for us whatsoever we shall desire.  36  And he said unto them, What would ye that I should do for you?  37  They said unto him, Grant unto us that we may sit, one on thy right hand, and the other on thy left hand, in thy glory.  38  But Jesus said unto them, Ye know not what ye ask: can ye drink of the cup that I drink of? and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with? 41  And when the ten heard it, they began to be much displeased with James and John.  42  But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.  43  But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:  44  And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.  45  For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.]

[and be baptized with the baptism that I am baptized with?] All of the apostles, except for Judas Iscariot, who actually killed himself, and John, who died of natural causes, were martyred for their faith in Christ. They were indeed baptized with the same baptism, which means that they would receive the Holy Spirit in them. Remember, at this point, the Holy Spirit did not indwell the believer permanently, He would indwell the prophets or godly priests as God used them. Jesus would send Him as the Comforter who would indwell every believer, [John 14:16-19  And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever;  17  Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.  18  I will not leave you comfortless: I will come to you.  19  Yet a little while, and the world seeth me no more; but ye see me: because I live, ye shall live also.]

[shall be servant of all.] Let me tell you, we who choose Christ are no different than the twelve, we shall indeed drink of the cup that Jesus drinks of, meaning, we are going to suffer in our faith, but that is what the Holy Spirit is for, to comfort us until Jesus brings us home, or returns, [Galatians 3:27-29  For as many of you as have been baptized into Christ have put on Christ.  28  There is neither Jew nor Greek, there is neither bond nor free, there is neither male nor female: for ye are all one in Christ Jesus.  29  And if ye be Christ’s, then are ye Abraham’s seed, and heirs according to the promise.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, it is truly amazing that we can simply come to You and be a part of You. We do not have to work or pay our way to become one Yours, because You paid we could not pay by giving Your sinless life for us, we just need to simply have faith in Your finished work. In order to become Yours Lord, when I received You as my Saviour a marriage began, one that will never tear us asunder, I may drift and feel all alone from time to time, but You are always there, nudging me until You get my attention. I am trusting in You to help me endure every challenge, I know if I want a lasting, fulfilled, and abundantly blessed life with You, then I need to stay as faithful and true to You as You are to me. Even if I mess up I know that You are always with me and will help me endure it and get back in Your will. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
