Message: Satan Defeated

Hello My Friend,

I have been quite ill the past few days, sinuses on top of vertigo, with the addition of a migraine, really had its toll on me. Thank God, I am able to sit up and actually read so, the devotions will be caught up and back to normal after today. I am still suspended from and have no income coming in, but I do have a lot of interviews lined up so, I know I will have a job this week, I am also still waiting to hear back from that job I am really wanting, and have hope that I will hear from them this week. It seems like the devil is working overtime on me, he is trying so hard to defeat me, but I can feel the prayers and power of God over me, and he will not prevail! I am siding with Jesus, [Matthew 4:10  Then saith Jesus unto him, Get thee hence, Satan: for it is written, Thou shalt worship the Lord thy God, and him only shalt thou serve.]

I am not going to lie, I have been feeling defeated, in fact, I have not felt this bad since July 10, 2004, when I nearly killed myself accidentally mixing two different medicines and Jesus literally, with His stern voice, telling me to get up because He did not bring me here to leave that way. In fact, that was the day that I sat on my bedroom floor, reading the entire Book of Job, and discovering that the devil was behind all pain I was in, losing everything that I had, and God was with me. So, while most people have a life verse that reminds them of their faith in Christ, I have the Book of Job, that is my life book, and yes, it was Jesus who told me to get up, [Job 23:8-10  Behold, I go forward, but he is not there; and backward, but I cannot perceive him:  9  On the left hand, where he doth work, but I cannot behold him: he hideth himself on the right hand, that I cannot see him:  10  But he knoweth the way that I take: when he hath tried me, I shall come forth as gold.]

Satan thought that he defeated Jesus when he watched Him being tried like a criminal. And as we continue in the reading of the Gospels, Luke also gives the account of Jesus standing before Pilate at His judgment. Luke gives us more details about what happened the first time He stood before Pilate.

[Luke 23:1-7  And the whole multitude of them arose, and led him unto Pilate.  2  And they began to accuse him, saying, We found this fellow perverting the nation, and forbidding to give tribute to Caesar, saying that he himself is Christ a King.  3  And Pilate asked him, saying, Art thou the King of the Jews? And he answered him and said, Thou sayest it.  4  Then said Pilate to the chief priests and to the people, I find no fault in this man.  5  And they were the more fierce, saying, He stirreth up the people, teaching throughout all Jewry, beginning from Galilee to this place.  6  When Pilate heard of Galilee, he asked whether the man were a Galilaean.  7  And as soon as he knew that he belonged unto Herod’s jurisdiction, he sent him to Herod, who himself also was at Jerusalem at that time.]

[he sent him to Herod,] The chief priests and elders stirred up the entire nation to go against Jesus. This was worse than the disciples running scared, this was down right hatred and as Pilate pointed out, envy. So, Pilate tried to kick the can down the road and sent Jesus to Herod, but that did not work either.

[Luke 23:9-15  Then he questioned with him in many words; but he answered him nothing.  10  And the chief priests and scribes stood and vehemently accused him.  11  And Herod with his men of war set him at nought, and mocked him, and arrayed him in a gorgeous robe, and sent him again to Pilate.  12  And the same day Pilate and Herod were made friends together: for before they were at enmity between themselves.  13  And Pilate, when he had called together the chief priests and the rulers and the people,  14  Said unto them, Ye have brought this man unto me, as one that perverteth the people: and, behold, I, having examined him before you, have found no fault in this man touching those things whereof ye accuse him:  15  No, nor yet Herod: for I sent you to him; and, lo, nothing worthy of death is done unto him.]

[nothing worthy of death is done unto him.] The world loves to appear as though they are accepting to everyone and we are all equal, but what they mean is, “As long as you agree with me, then you are accepted, if not, we will destroy you.” Religion is no better, I have seen so many churches, and there are some Christian churches guilty of this as well, they tell you that everyone is welcome and that Jesus loves them, but what they really mean is, “You are welcome as long as you agree to our terms, and if not we cannot help you.” Now, true churches do have bylaws that they follow that line up with Scripture because God is the authority, [1 Corinthians 5:4-7,11  In the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, when ye are gathered together, and my spirit, with the power of our Lord Jesus Christ,  5  To deliver such an one unto Satan for the destruction of the flesh, that the spirit may be saved in the day of the Lord Jesus.  6  Your glorying is not good. Know ye not that a little leaven leaveneth the whole lump?  7  Purge out therefore the old leaven, that ye may be a new lump, as ye are unleavened. For even Christ our passover is sacrificed for us: 11  But now I have written unto you not to keep company, if any man that is called a brother be a fornicator, or covetous, or an idolater, or a railer, or a drunkard, or an extortioner; with such an one no not to eat.]

While we are not to be yoked together with unbelievers, we are all sinners, and therefore, are to never deny anyone the opportunity to know Christ as their Saviour. Now, Pilate tried three times to get them to release Jesus, but the more he tried the more aggressive they got, screaming, “Crucify Him!”. I believe it was out of fear that he turned Jesus over to them.

[Luke 23:20-24,26-28  Pilate therefore, willing to release Jesus, spake again to them.  21  But they cried, saying, Crucify him, crucify him.  22  And he said unto them the third time, Why, what evil hath he done? I have found no cause of death in him: I will therefore chastise him, and let him go.  23  And they were instant with loud voices, requiring that he might be crucified. And the voices of them and of the chief priests prevailed.  24  And Pilate gave sentence that it should be as they required. 26  And as they led him away, they laid hold upon one Simon, a Cyrenian, coming out of the country, and on him they laid the cross, that he might bear it after Jesus.  27  And there followed him a great company of people, and of women, which also bewailed and lamented him.  28  But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children.]

[that he might bear it after Jesus.] Jesus was in such pain and weakness from being scourged that He could not bear to carry His cross any longer, Simon willing to carry it for Him. There is a sad state going around all over the world right now, and that is that there are not very many people willing to step up and help carry the cross of someone to weak to carry theirs. Yes, we do all have our own crosses to bear, but sometimes we need to help those too weak to carry theirs, and that is when we find the strength in Christ to carry ours, [Romans 15:1-3  We then that are strong ought to bear the infirmities of the weak, and not to please ourselves.  2  Let every one of us please his neighbour for his good to edification.  3  For even Christ pleased not himself; but, as it is written, The reproaches of them that reproached thee fell on me.]

The reproaches of mankind certainly did fall on Christ as He hung on that cross, right in the middle of two men who knew they were the only ones who deserved to be there. We learn of the two men as they too railed on Jesus, but Luke tells it a little different. One on the men believed in Jesus and was saved right there.

[Luke 23:32-34,39-43  And there were also two other, malefactors, led with him to be put to death.  33  And when they were come to the place, which is called Calvary, there they crucified him, and the malefactors, one on the right hand, and the other on the left.  34  Then said Jesus, Father, forgive them; for they know not what they do. And they parted his raiment, and cast lots. 39  And one of the malefactors which were hanged railed on him, saying, If thou be Christ, save thyself and us.  40  But the other answering rebuked him, saying, Dost not thou fear God, seeing thou art in the same condemnation?  41  And we indeed justly; for we receive the due reward of our deeds: but this man hath done nothing amiss.  42  And he said unto Jesus, Lord, remember me when thou comest into thy kingdom.  43  And Jesus said unto him, Verily I say unto thee, To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.]

[To day shalt thou be with me in paradise.] I touched on this yesterday, this is also known as Abraham’s Bosom, [Luke 16:22-23  And it came to pass, that the beggar died, and was carried by the angels into Abraham’s bosom: the rich man also died, and was buried;  23  And in hell he lift up his eyes, being in torments, and seeth Abraham afar off, and Lazarus in his bosom.], it was the place that believers souls would dwell until Jesus arose from the dead. There are many religions who believe that for those three nights that when Jesus’ body was in the tomb that He spent them in hell, this passage is proof of where Jesus was. Likewise, there are also many who believe that you must be baptized in water as well accept Christ as your Saviour in order to be saved, this is more proof that they are wrong. The baptism that Jesus speaks of that we all need to be baptized with in order to be saved, is the Holy Spirit, which can only come upon us through our faith in Christ, [Romans 6:4-5  Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead by the glory of the Father, even so we also should walk in newness of life.  5  For if we have been planted together in the likeness of his death, we shall be also in the likeness of his resurrection:]

Satan first thought that he defeated Jesus when He was sentenced to crucifixion, he became even more boastful when He was hanging on the cross, but the biggest victory that he thought he had made was when Jesus died. When Jesus died on the cross, some knew right away that He truly is the Christ and believed, along with those who followed Him, probably hoping for some miracle as well to see Jesus defeat His death. Most of them, actually felt as though they did this great honor in killing Jesus.

[Luke 23:46-53  And when Jesus had cried with a loud voice, he said, Father, into thy hands I commend my spirit: and having said thus, he gave up the ghost.  47  Now when the centurion saw what was done, he glorified God, saying, Certainly this was a righteous man.  48  And all the people that came together to that sight, beholding the things which were done, smote their breasts, and returned.  49  And all his acquaintance, and the women that followed him from Galilee, stood afar off, beholding these things.  50  And, behold, there was a man named Joseph, a counsellor; and he was a good man, and a just:  51  (The same had not consented to the counsel and deed of them;) he was of Arimathaea, a city of the Jews: who also himself waited for the kingdom of God.  52  This man went unto Pilate, and begged the body of Jesus.  53  And he took it down, and wrapped it in linen, and laid it in a sepulchre that was hewn in stone, wherein never man before was laid.]

[smote their breasts, and returned.] These fools boasted as they watched Jesus hang His head down as He died. They actually thought that they were doing God a favor, proud of the fact that they killed the very Messiah they had hoped would come to save them, yet oblivious to that fact. This is the devil in all his glory, truly thinking that he defeated the Son of God, and he did not even have to lift a finger to do it. Do not let him fool you, Satan has to get permission from God in order to afflict us, and we can wonder why God does allow this, but we can also know that God knows our faith as well, [Job 2:3-6  And the LORD said unto Satan, Hast thou considered my servant Job, that there is none like him in the earth, a perfect and an upright man, one that feareth God, and escheweth evil? and still he holdeth fast his integrity, although thou movedst me against him, to destroy him without cause.  4  And Satan answered the LORD, and said, Skin for skin, yea, all that a man hath will he give for his life.  5  But put forth thine hand now, and touch his bone and his flesh, and he will curse thee to thy face.  6  And the LORD said unto Satan, Behold, he is in thine hand; but save his life.]

Yes, God does allow Satan to afflict us, but He knows our faith and will never let one soul die that belongs to Him. Satan thought that he defeated Jesus, and three nights he basked in all his glory, that was until the third day, when the ladies came to the tomb of Jesus only to discover that Jesus was not there.

[Luke 24:1-7  Now upon the first day of the week, very early in the morning, they came unto the sepulchre, bringing the spices which they had prepared, and certain others with them.  2  And they found the stone rolled away from the sepulchre.  3  And they entered in, and found not the body of the Lord Jesus.  4  And it came to pass, as they were much perplexed thereabout, behold, two men stood by them in shining garments:  5  And as they were afraid, and bowed down their faces to the earth, they said unto them, Why seek ye the living among the dead?  6  He is not here, but is risen: remember how he spake unto you when he was yet in Galilee,  7  Saying, The Son of man must be delivered into the hands of sinful men, and be crucified, and the third day rise again.]

[Why seek ye the living among the dead?] This reminds me of what Jesus said, [Luke 20:37-38  Now that the dead are raised, even Moses shewed at the bush, when he calleth the Lord the God of Abraham, and the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.  38  For he is not a God of the dead, but of the living: for all live unto him.] When those among the dead die, they often throw extravagant funerals, coffins engulfed with gold and jewels, and inside them hold some of the most precious things they could not let go of as though they could take them with them. This is why Jesus also said, [Luke 9:60b  Let the dead bury their dead: but go thou and preach the kingdom of God.] We who believe in the Gospel of Christ and accept Him as our Saviour are among the living, our bodies may sleep when we too, give up the ghost, but we will also resurrect, [1 Thessalonians 4:14-16  For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.  15  For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.  16  For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:]

And you would think that Satan would have stopped right there, knowing that he was the one who was, in fact, defeated, but that did not stop him. When Mary Magdalene and the other ladies went to the disciples and told them that Jesus was not at the tomb, they had a hard time believing them, [Luke 24:9-12  And returned from the sepulchre, and told all these things unto the eleven, and to all the rest.  10  It was Mary Magdalene, and Joanna, and Mary the mother of James, and other women that were with them, which told these things unto the apostles.  11  And their words seemed to them as idle tales, and they believed them not.  12  Then arose Peter, and ran unto the sepulchre; and stooping down, he beheld the linen clothes laid by themselves, and departed, wondering in himself at that which was come to pass.]

[And their words seemed to them as idle tales,] Can you imagine the way they looked at them? Peter ran to the tomb only to discover that Jesus was not in there, in fact, no one was there. And this is exactly why we are saved by grace through our faith in Christ alone by our accepting Him as our Saviour the second we believe. Now, as the news got out that Jesus was not in the tomb, people began asking questions among each other, little did they know that Jesus was right there with them.

[Luke 24:15-21  And it came to pass, that, while they communed together and reasoned, Jesus himself drew near, and went with them.  16  But their eyes were holden that they should not know him.  17  And he said unto them, What manner of communications are these that ye have one to another, as ye walk, and are sad?  18  And the one of them, whose name was Cleopas, answering said unto him, Art thou only a stranger in Jerusalem, and hast not known the things which are come to pass there in these days?  19  And he said unto them, What things? And they said unto him, Concerning Jesus of Nazareth, which was a prophet mighty in deed and word before God and all the people:  20  And how the chief priests and our rulers delivered him to be condemned to death, and have crucified him.  21  But we trusted that it had been he which should have redeemed Israel: and beside all this, to day is the third day since these things were done.]

[And he said unto them, What things?] I love how Jesus approaches them. My boyfriend does this to me whenever he tries to get me to say something on my own. Jesus was actually trying to get them to realize that this is exactly what He was talking to them about prior to His being captured. Yes, they were in much grief still at the thought of losing their beloved Christ, but their grief blinded them from seeing that He was right in front of them, in fact, they were with Him most of the day before they discovered Him.

[Luke 24:25-31  Then he said unto them, O fools, and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:  26  Ought not Christ to have suffered these things, and to enter into his glory?  27  And beginning at Moses and all the prophets, he expounded unto them in all the scriptures the things concerning himself.  28  And they drew nigh unto the village, whither they went: and he made as though he would have gone further.  29  But they constrained him, saying, Abide with us: for it is toward evening, and the day is far spent. And he went in to tarry with them.  30  And it came to pass, as he sat at meat with them, he took bread, and blessed it, and brake, and gave to them.  31  And their eyes were opened, and they knew him; and he vanished out of their sight.]

[and slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken:] How slow is our heart that we too forget the promises of God? How slow is our heart to let go of guilt or shame because of something we did in the past? How slow is our heart that we give up when things look hopeless? How slow is our heart that we to resort to the things of the world when something goes against our expectations? We lose sight of Jesus when our heart is hurting, He gives us all kinds of signs, but because we are hurting, we do not realize He is right there, at least, for a little while. This is how Satan tries to defeat us, but remember, we are more than conquerors. We talk a lot about repentance from sin, but sometimes we need to repent of the doubts and fears that we have. Satan can never defeat us because we belong to Jesus, he is the one who is defeated as we have the victory in Christ! [1 John 5:4-6  For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.  5  Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God?  6  This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.]

Let Us Pray: God, Thank You, for loving me and not giving up on me, for Your faith in me, and giving me a heart that believes in the Gospel. It took some time, but You knew exactly when my eyes would open to the truth about Your Son, and I would know how to accept Him as my Saviour. Thank You, for all the trials and tribulations that You got me through so that I could truly understand that Christ is my redeemer and the only one who could ever save me from my sin. I am proof that You can save anyone who has faith in Your Son, we just need to believe in all that HE is. I love You and pray this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
