Message: Rest In Jesus

Hello My Friend,

Rest; Quiet; peace; repose; a state free from motion or disturbance; a state of reconciliation to God. As rest from labor; rest from mental exertion; rest of body or mind. A body is at rest when it ceases to move; the mind is at rest when it ceases to be disturbed or agitated. The soul is at rest when it finds Christ and receives Him as their Saviour, [Hebrews 4:1-3  Let us therefore fear, lest, a promise being left us of entering into his rest, any of you should seem to come short of it.  2  For unto us was the gospel preached, as well as unto them: but the word preached did not profit them, not being mixed with faith in them that heard it.  3  For we which have believed do enter into rest, as he said, As I have sworn in my wrath, if they shall enter into my rest: although the works were finished from the foundation of the world.]

[but the word preached did not profit them,] This is the majority of those who reject Christ. You see, when we come to Christ it is not like the fairy tales that tell of no more suffering or sin, and we go on to live the rest of our days with not a care in the world. When we come to Christ we must first admit that we are in fact a sinner, that the payment of sin is death and hell, but Jesus paid that payment for us by dying a sinless death. They are quick to bail out the second they discover that there is no profit in it for them. The Book of Hebrews was first written by Paul to Jewish believers, also known as Hebrews, around 65 AD. The purpose of the letter was to show them that the Law of Moses had come to an end through the fulfillment of Christ, who is the purpose of the whole law, and is above the angels. What we are to learn from the book is that Jesus is the mediator of a better covenant, established on better promises.

[Hebrews 1:1-4,10-12  God, who at sundry times and in divers manners spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets, 2  Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son, whom he hath appointed heir of all things, by whom also he made the worlds;  3  Who being the brightness of his glory, and the express image of his person, and upholding all things by the word of his power, when he had by himself purged our sins, sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high;  4  Being made so much better than the angels, as he hath by inheritance obtained a more excellent name than they. 10  And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning hast laid the foundation of the earth; and the heavens are the works of thine hands:  11  They shall perish; but thou remainest; and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;  12  And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up, and they shall be changed: but thou art the same, and thy years shall not fail.]

[when he had by himself purged our sins,] When Jesus hung on the cross He took every sin committed of every person with Him, whether we believe on Him or not, but He only purges or removes the sins of those who believe this. There is no greater name than Jesus and by no other name can we be saved, but by Jesus, [Acts 4:12  Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.]

[Neither is there salvation in any other:] Salvation; The act of saving; preservation from destruction, danger or great calamity. God gave Moses the law so that the Jews could be separated from natural man. When you stop to think about all the people in the world, how many believe in some form of god, and how many actually are saved that number is astoundingly very low. Jesus, with all the power of God, and above the angels, lowered Himself to be less than the angels by putting on the flesh that we have, becoming the sacrifice necessary to bring permanent salvation to all who believe in Him, and gave us life through His sinless death.

[Hebrews 2:9-11,14-16,18  But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the angels for the suffering of death, crowned with glory and honour; that he by the grace of God should taste death for every man.  10  For it became him, for whom are all things, and by whom are all things, in bringing many sons unto glory, to make the captain of their salvation perfect through sufferings.  11  For both he that sanctifieth and they who are sanctified are all of one: for which cause he is not ashamed to call them brethren, 14  Forasmuch then as the children are partakers of flesh and blood, he also himself likewise took part of the same; that through death he might destroy him that had the power of death, that is, the devil;  15  And deliver them who through fear of death were all their lifetime subject to bondage. 18  For in that he himself hath suffered being tempted, he is able to succour them that are tempted.]

[he is able to succour them that are tempted.] Succor; To aid, help, or assist. To run to, or run to support; hence, to help or relieve when in difficulty, want or distress; to assist and deliver from suffering. We who are saved have the power within us to resist every temptation, and that power is the Holy Spirit that lives inside of every saved soul, [James 1:13-14  Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man:  14  But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed.]

[when he is drawn away of his own lust,] You can look at something all day long and not be tempted by it, but all it takes is one cue from our flesh to turn it into lust. Let me tell you, temptation only comes when we are not happy and content with what we are currently dealing with. Our salvation was never meant to justify sin or keep us from suffering, it is solely meant to give us permanent redemption from our sin upon our faith alone in Christ. It also ought to be the incentive we need to keep ourselves from sin. It was necessary for Paul to remind the Jews, who held Moses in such high esteem, that he was just like the rest of us, a sinner, who was faithful to God, He used Moses to pen down the first five books of the Bible, and he is the one that God gave the Law to. The Law was the foundation that every believer, whether Jew or Gentile, stood upon for their faith.

[Hebrews 3:4-6,12-14  For every house is builded by some man; but he that built all things is God.  5  And Moses verily was faithful in all his house, as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken after;  6  But Christ as a son over his own house; whose house are we, if we hold fast the confidence and the rejoicing of the hope firm unto the end. 12  Take heed, brethren, lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief, in departing from the living God.  13  But exhort one another daily, while it is called To day; lest any of you be hardened through the deceitfulness of sin.  14  For we are made partakers of Christ, if we hold the beginning of our confidence stedfast unto the end;]

[lest there be in any of you an evil heart of unbelief,] The Gospel is the death, burial, and resurrection of Christ who was born of a virgin and remained sinless the entire time that He lived here on earth. If anyone believes anything other than this, even if you do not believe that Mary was a virgin, then you are not saved. You must believe in all of the Gospel in order to be saved. Why? You cannot believe that one part of the Bible is true and another part is not. You must believe that the entire Bible is true! True rest is not found in having God grant our every request, it is found in our salvation.

[Hebrews 4:10-15  For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.  11  Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.  12  For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.  13  Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.  14  Seeing then that we have a great high priest, that is passed into the heavens, Jesus the Son of God, let us hold fast our profession.  15  For we have not an high priest which cannot be touched with the feeling of our infirmities; but was in all points tempted like as we are, yet without sin.]

[he also hath ceased from his own works,] There is absolutely nothing that we can do in our own efforts, apart from our faith in Christ, that can save us. When we are trusting Christ as our Saviour, we have ceased from attempting to save ourselves from death and hell. We have ceased from fearing that all of our efforts to please God are null and void due to our constant mishaps. We have ceased from sleepless nights worrying about the things we have no control over. And we enter in that rest that can only be found in Christ, so, it is time we stop working ourselves to death and start working ourselves to rest, [James 2:18-20  Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.  19  Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.  20  But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?]

[and I will shew thee my faith by my works.] We will never be sinless while we have this flesh, but we can be faithful, and show our love for Christ by living the rest of our lives in our faith. Jesus gave us the greatest example of obedience, and yes, He was tempted just as much as we are. Remember, it is the suffering we face that keeps us out of trouble, that is as long as we keep our eyes on Jesus.

[Hebrews 5:8-14  Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;  9  And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;  10  Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.  11  Of whom we have many things to say, and hard to be uttered, seeing ye are dull of hearing.  12  For when for the time ye ought to be teachers, ye have need that one teach you again which be the first principles of the oracles of God; and are become such as have need of milk, and not of strong meat.  13  For every one that useth milk is unskilful in the word of righteousness: for he is a babe.  14  But strong meat belongeth to them that are of full age, even those who by reason of use have their senses exercised to discern both good and evil.]

[and are become such as have need of milk,] Let me tell you, this is the majority of saved, born again Christians, they know enough to get saved, but they are unlearned and need to be fed the milk of the Word. Let me tell you something else, and I said this yesterday, the second that we think that we have learned everything and no longer need God’s Word to guide us is the second we need to repent. We must never think of ourselves as so strong that we do not need to be in God’s Word. It is designed in a way that we learn something new every time you read it, and if you are not learning something new every time you read, then you have a serious problem, [2 Timothy 3:14-17  But continue thou in the things which thou hast learned and hast been assured of, knowing of whom thou hast learned them;  15  And that from a child thou hast known the holy scriptures, which are able to make thee wise unto salvation through faith which is in Christ Jesus.  16  All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness:  17  That the man of God may be perfect, throughly furnished unto all good works.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, I will never understand how I can be saved simply by believing in and accepting You as my Saviour. But I do understand that I am saved by my faith alone in Your finished work, I know I am a sinner, I believe You died to save me from my sin, and I am know I only need You for my salvation. Thank You for saving me, it is not always easy to follow the path that seems to have so many challenges, but I know I can endure them through You. Lord, Lead me and guide me, teach me Your truths so that I can teach them to others, and when I start to doubt or feel like things are hopeless, keep me looking to You, my Saviour, my God, my everything. I love You and am nothing without You. I ask this in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
