Message: The Law of Faith

Salvation; The act or saving, preservation from destruction, the redemption of man from the bondage of sin and liability to eternal death through ones faith in the Gospel of the LORD, Jesus Christ. Salvation is something that has gotten lost in modern churches today. Oh, they do teach, [John 3:16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.] What they do not teach is, [John 3:18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.] What exactly is it that we are to believe to avoid condemnation? Well, the Book of Romans explains it all. We must believe that we are sinners, and that there is a punishment for sin, and that is eternal death. We must also believe that Jesus, who was born of a virgin, died a sinless death on the cross to save those who do believe this, was buried, and resurrected three days later and that is when He gives eternal life to those who believe in Him, [Romans 6:22-23 But now being made free from sin, and become servants to God, ye have your fruit unto holiness, and the end everlasting life. 23 For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord.]
The Book of Romans contains sixteen chapters and was written by Paul to all believers, and it was written about 60AD. The purpose of the book, also known as the Romans road, was to show that Christ replaced the law of Moses with the law of faith. Paul, wrote to the Romans while he was in Corinth, he heard about their faith in the Gospel, but they were intermixing salvation by grace with the Law of Moses. Paul sets the record straight first by reminding them that, whether Jew or Gentile (Greek), it is the just who live by faith.
[Romans 1:7-12,16-17 To all that be in Rome, beloved of God, called to be saints: Grace to you and peace from God our Father, and the Lord Jesus Christ. 8 First, I thank my God through Jesus Christ for you all, that your faith is spoken of throughout the whole world. 9 For God is my witness, whom I serve with my spirit in the gospel of his Son, that without ceasing I make mention of you always in my prayers; 10 Making request, if by any means now at length I might have a prosperous journey by the will of God to come unto you. 11 For I long to see you, that I may impart unto you some spiritual gift, to the end ye may be established; 12 That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me. 16 For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power of God unto salvation to every one that believeth; to the Jew first, and also to the Greek. 17 For therein is the righteousness of God revealed from faith to faith: as it is written, The just shall live by faith.]
[The just shall live by faith.] Who are the just? Those whom have received Christ as their Saviour. Salvation has never been about following every command written in the Bible to be saved from eternal death, and has never been about countless animal sacrifices to be redeemed because not one person is capable of following every command. It has always been about realizing that you are a sinner, and without the LORD, you will die in your sin. We often wonder how God chooses those who get saved, well, here is the answer.
[Romans 1:20-21,28-32 For the invisible things of him from the creation of the world are clearly seen, being understood by the things that are made, even his eternal power and Godhead; so that they are without excuse: 21 Because that, when they knew God, they glorified him not as God, neither were thankful; but became vain in their imaginations, and their foolish heart was darkened. 28 And even as they did not like to retain God in their knowledge, God gave them over to a reprobate mind, to do those things which are not convenient; 29 Being filled with all unrighteousness, fornication, wickedness, covetousness, maliciousness; full of envy, murder, debate, deceit, malignity; whisperers, 30 Backbiters, haters of God, despiteful, proud, boasters, inventors of evil things, disobedient to parents, 31 Without understanding, covenantbreakers, without natural affection, implacable, unmerciful: 32 Who knowing the judgment of God, that they which commit such things are worthy of death, not only do the same, but have pleasure in them that do them.]
[but have pleasure in them that do them.] Does any of this sound familiar today? This includes those churches that are preaching that as long as they believe that Christ died to save them, and that there is no consequence to sin. All sin has consequence, even after we are saved. Remember David? After he sinned with Bathsheba, he tried to cover it up and made things worse when he had her husband killed in a heated battle. Although God forgave him when he confessed his sin, that did not stop the judgment from happening when his own son, Absalom tried to kill him and take the throne for himself, [II Samuel 12:1-14]. This is why salvation has never been about how good we are, rather by our faith in God and willingness to confess and repent of our sin. Religion judges man, and tells them if they do not follow their rules, then they are doomed for hell. Today’s religion teaches that nothing is sin as long as you believe in Christ. Jesus teaches, all are under judgment.
[Romans 2:1-3,7-11 Therefore thou art inexcusable, O man, whosoever thou art that judgest: for wherein thou judgest another, thou condemnest thyself; for thou that judgest doest the same things. 2 But we are sure that the judgment of God is according to truth against them which commit such things. 3 And thinkest thou this, O man, that judgest them which do such things, and doest the same, that thou shalt escape the judgment of God?7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life: 8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile; 10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile: 11 For there is no respect of persons with God.]
[Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil,] This is why I say that those who are saved get judged well before they stand before Jesus. Since we are saved by grace through our faith in Christ alone, we will stand before Christ robed in His righteousness, therefore, we cannot get saved and live a wicked life, we will suffer until we repent or God sees no other choice, but to bring us home so we suffer no longer in that sin, [Hebrews 6:4-6 For it is impossible for those who were once enlightened, and have tasted of the heavenly gift, and were made partakers of the Holy Ghost, 5 And have tasted the good word of God, and the powers of the world to come, 6 If they shall fall away, to renew them again unto repentance; seeing they crucify to themselves the Son of God afresh, and put him to an open shame.]
[and put him to an open shame.] Since we all have our own crosses to bear and sin to deal with, we should never condemn someone else for theirs. If there is anything to learn from this pandemic it is that we ought to have compassion on all, regardless of what sin they are dealing with because we are all sinners.
[Romans 3:9-12,19-23 What then? are we better than they? No, in no wise: for we have before proved both Jews and Gentiles, that they are all under sin; 10 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. 12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 19 Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;]
[and come short of the glory of God;] This means that not one of us are perfect and we come short of getting saved of our own righteousness. Think of it this way, we can do a thousand things that are pleasing to God, but all it takes is one thing that does not please Him to bring us back to square one again. This is why Jesus gave His life for us, He removed the need for seeking constant redemption every time we sin, we are redeemed once and for all through our faith in Him.
[Romans 3:24-28,31 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law. 31 Do we then make void the law through faith? God forbid: yea, we establish the law.]
[Nay: but by the law of faith.] The law of Moses has been replaced with the Law of faith or grace, Amen! This is not to say that we would not benefit by following the Law in regards to living our lives to please God, it is to say that we not justified in doing so, only through our faith in Christ. So, the question always comes up about what happens to those who were here before Christ came here in the flesh? Well, here is the answer for this also.
[Romans 4:1-8,16,20-22 What shall we say then that Abraham our father, as pertaining to the flesh, hath found? 2 For if Abraham were justified by works, he hath whereof to glory; but not before God. 3 For what saith the scripture? Abraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness. 4 Now to him that worketh is the reward not reckoned of grace, but of debt. 5 But to him that worketh not, but believeth on him that justifieth the ungodly, his faith is counted for righteousness. 6 Even as David also describeth the blessedness of the man, unto whom God imputeth righteousness without works, 7 Saying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven, and whose sins are covered. 8 Blessed is the man to whom the Lord will not impute sin. 16 Therefore it is of faith, that it might be by grace; to the end the promise might be sure to all the seed; not to that only which is of the law, but to that also which is of the faith of Abraham; who is the father of us all, 20 He staggered not at the promise of God through unbelief; but was strong in faith, giving glory to God; 21 And being fully persuaded that, what he had promised, he was able also to perform. 22 And therefore it was imputed to him for righteousness.]
[he was able also to perform.] God has always determined that it is not what we do for Him or anyone else that shows us righteous before Him, but only by believing in what His Son did for us. Although Abraham never even saw ore knew the name, Jesus Christ, that did not stop him from believing on that promise. Salvation has always been granted to us by the grace of God because He knows that even at our best, we still fall short, [1 Corinthians 6:9-11 Know ye not that the unrighteous shall not inherit the kingdom of God? Be not deceived: neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor effeminate, nor abusers of themselves with mankind, 10 Nor thieves, nor covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners, shall inherit the kingdom of God. 11 And such were some of you: but ye are washed, but ye are sanctified, but ye are justified in the name of the Lord Jesus, and by the Spirit of our God.]
Today’s Prayer: Jesus, You deserve all the glory, honor, and power for redeeming my soul when I received You as my Saviour. I know that my salvation was only made possible by my believing in Your sinless death, burial, and resurrection. While we were still powerless and dead in our sins, You died for us, You demonstrated Your love for us, in that while we were yet sinners, You died to save us from that sin. Now, we are seen as righteous before You and justified from our sin debt through Your sacrifice. Your wondrous love is truly amazing and we can only respond by doing what is pleasing to You, not under the Law, but as gratitude for what You have done for us. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.
