Message: Working And Resting In Christ

Hello My Friend,

rest-with-jesusRedeem, To purchase back; to liberate or rescue from captivity or bondage. Those whom have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour have been rescued from the bondage of sin, and fiery pits of hell. How? By believing in His sinless death on the cross, His burial, and resurrection three days later. Regardless of how bad we have been or how bad we may be in the future, that gift will never be taken away from us because save my faith in His work, not our own. “Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith.” – Romans 3:24,27.

Works, To obtain by diligence. Since we are saved by faith and not of our works what we do for Christ after we are saved is not to keep our salvation, it is to bring others to salvation. Once we receive Christ as our Saviour we belong to Him so that means anything He wants us to do He expects us to do it, again, not for our salvation, but to bring others to Him. One of the things, and perhaps the most important is soul winning, while Jesus spent most of His time with the apostles, He had many disciples, He gathers seventy of them to go out into the communities to tell them how they can be saved, this is known as soul winning.

Go your ways: behold, I send you forth as lambs among wolves. Carry neither purse, nor scrip, nor shoes: and salute no man by the way. And into whatsoever house ye enter, first say, Peace be to this house. And if the son of peace be there, your peace shall rest upon it: if not, it shall turn to you again. And in the same house remain, eating and drinking such things as they give: for the labourer is worthy of his hire. Go not from house to house. And into whatsoever city ye enter, and they receive you, eat such things as are set before you: And heal the sick that are therein, and say unto them, The kingdom of God is come nigh unto you.” – Luke 10:3-9.

And heal the sick that are therein,” Jesus does one thing that religion never does, heals the sinner. When we come to Jesus we are sick with sin, but He miraculously heals us the second we believe in and receive Him as our Saviour. Jesus warns all of us, we are going to face some attacks from the devil because we are preaching the Gospel to others. We are spiritual physicians, making every effort to heal the sick with the Word of God, but not at the price of compromising biblical truth. It is a proven fact that a person who leads souls to Christ, whether they see them get saved or not becomes extremely blessed. Why? The laborer gets paid for their job. “The fruit of the righteous is a tree of life; and he that winneth souls is wise.” – Proverbs 11:30.

We have to be careful when we start doing the work of Christ that we do not forget that we are merely the sower to plant the seed of the Gospel in a lost soul, we are not the actual one who saves the soul, Jesus solely does that. After the seventy saw so many people converted and witnessed the power they had against the devil they felt pretty good about themselves, but Jesus reminds them of what they are to be rejoicing about.

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven.” – Luke 10:17-20.

Notwithstanding in this rejoice not,” While the devil has no power on our soul, and Jesus will give us the power to witness no matter what situation we are brought to, the most important thing to remember that a soul is saved from hell. There is no better feeling than seeing a person bow their head and trust Christ as their Saviour, but let me tell you, you will see more people reject Him than receive Him. Nevertheless, we press on, knowing that we have done our part in reaching the lost with the Gospel, but remember, our rewards are waiting for us in the Kingdom of God. “And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.” – Revelation 22:12.

There is one thing we must be aware of when we are working for Christ, we can get into such a routine with His work and our own that we forget we need to have a personal relationship with Him ourselves. Let me tell you, if all we do is work and do not have time to rest in the LORD, we will wear ourselves out to the point that we lose our effectiveness as a soul winner, meaning we are not reaching out to as many because we are so tired. We learn more about this as Jesus visits with two sisters, Martha and Mary.

Now it came to pass, as they went, that he entered into a certain village: and a certain woman named Martha received him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, which also sat at Jesus’ feet, and heard his word. But Martha was cumbered about much serving, and came to him, and said, Lord, dost thou not care that my sister hath left me to serve alone? bid her therefore that she help me. And Jesus answered and said unto her, Martha, Martha, thou art careful and troubled about many things: But one thing is needful: and Mary hath chosen that good part, which shall not be taken away from her.” – Luke 10:38-42.

But one thing is needful:” While all sustainable and reasonable work is necessary in life, we must not forget that we need time to rest and listen to Jesus. Take time every day to spend with Christ, not just readimg the Bible or praying for things, listening to Him, singing to Him, praising Him, talking to Him. I was driving home from church Sunday morning and tears burst in my eyes because one song was playing, “I Stand Redeemed”. It says, “Even at my best I am unworthy, I have nothing precious I can give, a broken life is all I have to offer, and yet it is a priceless gift to Him.” It hit me that I have so many faults, but I am Redeemed, I belong to Jesus, He bought my soul with His own blood and because of that I am sin debt free, I am going to mess up, but I stand before my Father Redeemed. He is the same way with all of His sheep, we are already perfect in Him, we are not working for anything, but we are serving willingly Him to give others hope. “For if Jesus had given them rest, then would he not afterward have spoken of another day. There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God. For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his. Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.” – Hebrews 4:8-11.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “All things are delivered to me of my Father: and no man knoweth who the Son is, but the Father; and who the Father is, but the Son, and he to whom the Son will reveal him.” – Luke 10:22.

Today’s Prayer: God, I want to be a witness and a testimony for others to see the amazing life that they too can have when they place their faith and trust in Your Son. Thank You Lord, for all the joys, sorrows, and tears you place before me so I can be a witness and a testimony for Your glory. Lord, lead me and guide me, help me to not only follow in the footsteps of Your Son, but to also pray without ceasing. I have confidence in knowing that anything I ask in His name I will receive because You said so. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
