Message: Who Touched Me?

Hello My Friend,

Every Christian likes to proclaim that they live by faith in God, and that there is nothing too hard or impossible for Him. However, our heart is a different story sometimes, and I am not talking about lacking faith that God can and will do the impossible, I am talking about our believing that He will do it for us. We must admit that the closer we get to Christ we really have a hard time comprehending that He could save us because we realize just how wretched our flesh is. Do you think that Jesus does not know who you are and what you feel at all times? Of course He does. He just wants us to acknowledge that we turned to Him. There are so many Christians afraid to confess to Jesus that they went to Him after running out of every other option, and it has nothing to do with their being ashamed to admit they believe in Him, they realize they are just sinners, unworthy of salvation, and yet He gives it to them freely when they confess they believe in Him. Praise God! “This is a faithful saying, and worthy of all acceptation, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners; of whom I am chief. Howbeit for this cause I obtained mercy, that in me first Jesus Christ might shew forth all longsuffering, for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.” – I Timothy 1:15-16.

for a pattern to them which should hereafter believe on him to life everlasting.” The trials and tribulation we face in our lifetime has a lot to do with our first believing in and receiving Christ as our Saviour, and then living the rest of our lives telling everyone else about it. I know we talked about the parable of the seeds being sown into different types of ground yesterday, but in Luke’s testimony, a few things caught my heart as Jesus explains the meaning of the parable.

And he said, Unto you it is given to know the mysteries of the kingdom of God: but to others in parables; that seeing they might not see, and hearing they might not understand. Now the parable is this: The seed is the word of God. Those by the way side are they that hear; then cometh the devil, and taketh away the word out of their hearts, lest they should believe and be saved. They on the rock are they, which, when they hear, receive the word with joy; and these have no root, which for a while believe, and in time of temptation fall away. And that which fell among thorns are they, which, when they have heard, go forth, and are choked with cares and riches and pleasures of this life, and bring no fruit to perfection. But that on the good ground are they, which in an honest and good heart, having heard the word, keep it, and bring forth fruit with patience.” – Luke 8:10-15.

lest they should believe and be saved.” So many people seek Jesus for healing, and here is the thing, He heals them in hopes that that they will believe in the Gospel and be saved, but sadly, very few do. You see, we are given the freewill to choose what we believe and accept, we are not forced to believe in God or Jesus, and let me tell you, Jesus knows who will receive Him and who will not no matter how many times He heals them. I have to point out another line of passage, “and bring forth fruit with patience.” Sometimes, as Christians we think that we get the short end of the stick and that Jesus does not merely do as much for us that He does for the unsaved, but that really is not the case, He watches out for us more than ever, He just knows where we are going and does not worry about that. He knows our value, and our worth. “Are not two sparrows sold for a farthing? and one of them shall not fall on the ground without your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Fear ye not therefore, ye are of more value than many sparrows.” – Matthew 10:29-31.

Now, our faith in God doing the impossible for us is often dependent upon our circumstances. Oh yes, we know that we can do anything through Christ, but the more affliction we face the harder it is to accept that, especially when we are dealing with things that are not under our control. It is amazing to read about the journey that the disciples took along with Jesus, apart from Judas Iscariot, you would have thought these men had strong faith, no doubts, understood Him, and had the utmost belief in Him. However, they were ordinary people like you and I, and although eager to follow Christ, there were times when they too were more concerned about their own needs and panicked. We learn this as they were in a ship.

Now it came to pass on a certain day, that he went into a ship with his disciples: and he said unto them, Let us go over unto the other side of the lake. And they launched forth. But as they sailed he fell asleep: and there came down a storm of wind on the lake; and they were filled with water, and were in jeopardy. And they came to him, and awoke him, saying, Master, master, we perish. Then he arose, and rebuked the wind and the raging of the water: and they ceased, and there was a calm. And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” – Luke 8:22-25.

But as they sailed he fell asleep:Do you see what happened here? Jesus knew that the storm was coming, He knew exactly what was going on even though He was laying there asleep. It may appear as those God is sleeping when we are facing circumstances beyond our control, but He is not, He is merely testing our faith. Let me tell you, we fail miserably at our faith when facing circumstances beyond our control more often than we care to admit, and this is why we really do miss out on so many opportunities to see Him do even more for us. Now, It is only when we put our complete trust in Him that He will direct our paths to help us through those circumstances that are beyond our control. God just wants us to acknowledge Him in all things, the more we acknowledge Him the more we learn to trust Him in all things. As Jesus arrives at a town called Gadarenes, He runs into a man that was possessed by the devil, this man knew enough to get to Jesus and was healed, but instead of cheering on the amazing miracle the people were deathly afraid and pushed Him away.

When they that fed them saw what was done, they fled, and went and told it in the city and in the country. Then they went out to see what was done; and came to Jesus, and found the man, out of whom the devils were departed, sitting at the feet of Jesus, clothed, and in his right mind: and they were afraid. They also which saw it told them by what means he that was possessed of the devils was healed. Then the whole multitude of the country of the Gadarenes round about besought him to depart from them; for they were taken with great fear: and he went up into the ship, and returned back again. Now the man out of whom the devils were departed besought him that he might be with him: but Jesus sent him away, saying, Return to thine own house, and shew how great things God hath done unto thee. And he went his way, and published throughout the whole city how great things Jesus had done unto him.” – Luke 8:34-39.

for they were taken with great fear:” These people did not want Jesus around because of what they saw. God has so much more in store for us, it is our fear that keeps Him from doing it. I am going to cry having seen all the opportunities I missed because I trusted in my own understanding instead of God’s, but I know one thing is sure, at least I will be with Him. The man wanted to follow Jesus wherever He went, but Jesus knew he would be better off telling the people about Him there rather than come with Him. This is why Jesus has not returned yet and also why He has His faithful living among the world, if just one gets saved we have made a difference. Now, we come to one of my favorite testimonies of Jesus, the woman with the issue of blood.

And, behold, there came a man named Jairus, and he was a ruler of the synagogue: and he fell down at Jesus’ feet, and besought him that he would come into his house: For he had one only daughter, about twelve years of age, and she lay a dying. But as he went the people thronged him. And a woman having an issue of blood twelve years, which had spent all her living upon physicians, neither could be healed of any, Came behind him, and touched the border of his garment: and immediately her issue of blood stanched. And Jesus said, Who touched me? When all denied, Peter and they that were with him said, Master, the multitude throng thee and press thee, and sayest thou, Who touched me? And Jesus said, Somebody hath touched me: for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me. And when the woman saw that she was not hid, she came trembling, and falling down before him, she declared unto him before all the people for what cause she had touched him, and how she was healed immediately. And he said unto her, Daughter, be of good comfort: thy faith hath made thee whole; go in peace.” – Luke 8:41-48.

for I perceive that virtue is gone out of me.” Virtue; The strength by which a physical body can act and produce effects on another body. Jesus Christ is the strength by which every person who believes in and accepts Him as their Saviour stands. Jesus knew exactly who touched Him, He just wanted her to admit it so that she could also be saved. This whole testimony speaks out to me because I suffer with digestive issues, and have my entire life, so I know how this woman felt. You know, getting that medical miracle is one thing, but God uses our infirmities for more, He wants us to be made whole, mind, body, and spirit. Sometimes He will not remove the infirmities because it is those infirmities that increase our faith and lead others to Christ. It is all about His grace and our willingness to be used no matter where He takes us or what we have to deal with that is beyond our control. I do have to point out, that it really is not wise to go to Jesus as a last resort, we should go to Him from the start, but with that being said, that is how many come to know Him to begin with. “For this thing I besought the Lord thrice, that it might depart from me. And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me. Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ’s sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.” – II Corinthians 12:8-10.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “And he said unto them, Where is your faith? And they being afraid wondered, saying one to another, What manner of man is this! for he commandeth even the winds and water, and they obey him.” – Luke 8:25.
