Message: The Law Is My Delight

Hello My Friend,

The Word, God’s Word, the Bible, whatever you call it, never in your life will you read a book with such power, saved or not, this book is life, and comes to life as you read it. Some receive it gladly, some hate it passionately, and some down right try to destroy it. No one can destroy God’s Word no matter how many times they try to change it, rearrange it, or get rid of it. Why? God’s Word is infallible, meaning it is true, it is does not fail, it is everlasting, settled in heaven, and in the soul of every person who receives Christ, who is the Word in the flesh. “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The same was in the beginning with God. And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.” – John 1:1,2,14.

While God focused primarily on the Jews before Christ came in the flesh, He never denied anyone else the opportunity to know, and follow Him. Among the refugees from a neighboring country who sought asylum within the walls of Jerusalem, was a group of Arabs, known as the Rechabites, of the house of Rechab, who is identified with a section of the Kenites, a Midianitish tribe who came into Canaan with the Israelites, and retained their nomadic habits. They clung to the law given by Jonadab, their father, three hundred years before. God sent Jeremiah to them knowing that he forbid them to drink wine, with some wine, but they refused to accept it. God was pleased by their obedience, and God condemns the Jews for their disobedience.

But they said, We will drink no wine: for Jonadab the son of Rechab our father commanded us, saying, Ye shall drink no wine, neither ye, nor your sons for ever: Neither shall ye build house, nor sow seed, nor plant vineyard, nor have any: but all your days ye shall dwell in tents; that ye may live many days in the land where ye be strangers. But it came to pass, when Nebuchadrezzar king of Babylon came up into the land, that we said, Come, and let us go to Jerusalem for fear of the army of the Chaldeans, and for fear of the army of the Syrians: so we dwell at Jerusalem. Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Go and tell the men of Judah and the inhabitants of Jerusalem, Will ye not receive instruction to hearken to my words? saith the LORD. The words of Jonadab the son of Rechab, that he commanded his sons not to drink wine, are performed; for unto this day they drink none, but obey their father’s commandment: notwithstanding I have spoken unto you, rising early and speaking; but ye hearkened not unto me. And Jeremiah said unto the house of the Rechabites, Thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Because ye have obeyed the commandment of Jonadab your father, and kept all his precepts, and done according unto all that he hath commanded you: Therefore thus saith the LORD of hosts, the God of Israel; Jonadab the son of Rechab shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.” – Jeremiah 35:6-7,11,13-14,18-19.

shall not want a man to stand before me for ever.” This was God saying that they feared Him through the obedience of their father, as no one should ever want to stand before God in judgment. Although these people we not Levites or Nazarites, which were people who made vows to God, and drinking wine was forbidden, they remained obedient, and stood before God, to minister to him. The Jews on the other hand, who knew the Law, continuously disobeyed. Obedience to God is not necessarily following every command, after all, there were over six hundred, it was about being faithful, and loving Him more than the things of the world, and above all, NO OTHER GODS BEFORE HIM. God is no different today, if we have received Christ as our Saviour, He has our back, we might face some affliction, but He will deliver us out of every temptation. “The Lord knoweth how to deliver the godly out of temptations, and to reserve the unjust unto the day of judgment to be punished: But chiefly them that walk after the flesh in the lust of uncleanness, and despise government. Presumptuous are they, selfwilled, they are not afraid to speak evil of dignities. Whereas angels, which are greater in power and might, bring not railing accusation against them before the Lord. But these, as natural brute beasts, made to be taken and destroyed, speak evil of the things that they understand not; and shall utterly perish in their own corruption;” – II Peter 2:9-12.

speak evil of the things that they understand not;” If you have not noticed, Christian prosecution is on the rise, some countries have banned Christ all together, and will arrest anyone who even talks about Him and in others, God’s Word is forbidden, even burned if found. What these people are doing in their attempt to silence anyone who speaks the Word of God is trying silence God, but they cannot get rid of His Word no matter how much they try. Jeremiah is still in jail while all this is taking place, God instructs him to write down everything He has told him concerning the judgment in one more attempt to get the king and his men to repent. Jeremiah enlists the help of a man named Baruch to write down the words and get them to the king.

Take thee a roll of a book, and write therein all the words that I have spoken unto thee against Israel, and against Judah, and against all the nations, from the day I spake unto thee, from the days of Josiah, even unto this day. It may be that the house of Judah will hear all the evil which I purpose to do unto them; that they may return every man from his evil way; that I may forgive their iniquity and their sin. Then read Baruch in the book the words of Jeremiah in the house of the LORD, in the chamber of Gemariah the son of Shaphan the scribe, in the higher court, at the entry of the new gate of the LORD’S house, in the ears of all the people. So the king sent Jehudi to fetch the roll: and he took it out of Elishama the scribe’s chamber. And Jehudi read it in the ears of the king, and in the ears of all the princes which stood beside the king. And it came to pass, that when Jehudi had read three or four leaves, he cut it with the penknife, and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth, until all the roll was consumed in the fire that was on the hearth. Then the word of the LORD came to Jeremiah, after that the king had burned the roll, and the words which Baruch wrote at the mouth of Jeremiah, saying, Take thee again another roll, and write in it all the former words that were in the first roll, which Jehoiakim the king of Judah hath burned.” – Jeremiah 36:2-3,10,21,23,27-28.

and cast it into the fire that was on the hearth,” Since creation people have been trying to silence God, His Word, and those who preach it, but as long as God remains, and faithful servants remain, His Word will never be silenced or destroyed. You see, the problem is that the world and those who worship false gods see God as just some man made god they created, they fail to recognize that He is the living, breathing, walking, talking Almighty God. Since God will always remain, His Word will also, as well as every believer who accepted Christ. “For ever, O LORD, thy word is settled in heaven. Thy faithfulness is unto all generations: thou hast established the earth, and it abideth. They continue this day according to thine ordinances: for all are thy servants. Unless thy law had been my delights, I should then have perished in mine affliction. I will never forget thy precepts: for with them thou hast quickened me. I am thine, save me; for I have sought thy precepts. The wicked have waited for me to destroy me: but I will consider thy testimonies.” – Psalm 119:89-95.

Unless thy law had been my delights,” Until we come to knowledge of Christ and accept it all as truth we will not delight in obeying the rest of His Word. When God had placed His judgment upon Judah He did everything possible to get them to turn to Him, while the majority were carried away and now safe, the rebels, including the king, refused to submit and now they were coming after him. In an attempt to alter the plan, the Egyptians come in and attack the Chaldeans, which delayed things for a while, but it did not change the fate of the king and his family. Zedekiah, desperately asks Jeremiah to pray for him, and had him brought into the court of the prison.

Then Zedekiah the king sent, and took him out: and the king asked him secretly in his house, and said, Is there any word from the LORD? And Jeremiah said, There is: for, said he, thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon. Moreover Jeremiah said unto king Zedekiah, What have I offended against thee, or against thy servants, or against this people, that ye have put me in prison? Where are now your prophets which prophesied unto you, saying, The king of Babylon shall not come against you, nor against this land? Therefore hear now, I pray thee, O my lord the king: let my supplication, I pray thee, be accepted before thee; that thou cause me not to return to the house of Jonathan the scribe, lest I die there. Then Zedekiah the king commanded that they should commit Jeremiah into the court of the prison, and that they should give him daily a piece of bread out of the bakers’ street, until all the bread in the city were spent. Thus Jeremiah remained in the court of the prison.” – Jeremiah 37:17-21.

thou shalt be delivered into the hand of the king of Babylon.” I said to God this morning that He must think of me as a broken record, praying for the same thing, but getting the same result, and still asking for it. When God tells us to do something we need to listen, stop fighting Him on it, and stop asking the same question, hoping to get a different answer. The more you fight and try to alter God’s plan the harder it will be on you, because some things are destined, and we cannot alter or change them, but we can change how we react to them by getting behind Him on the matter. “Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. For whom he did foreknow, he also did predestinate to be conformed to the image of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brethren.” – Romans 8:26-29.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “Therefore thus saith the LORD God of hosts, the God of Israel; Behold, I will bring upon Judah and upon all the inhabitants of Jerusalem all the evil that I have pronounced against them: because I have spoken unto them, but they have not heard; and I have called unto them, but they have not answered.” – Jeremiah 35:17.

Today’s Prayer: God, You promise the second we receive Your Son as our Saviour that You will always be with us, it has been predestined that we get to live with You for eternity. Amen! Although we are obedient to You, it can seem like You are so far, sometimes, but You are always with us, and always have our back. When things get rough, remind us that we have a tougher, stronger God on our side to help us. God, give us Your power, strength, and courage to face the difficulties before us, knowing that You will always give us the victory. Keep us in Your Word and defending Your truths because so many are trying to silence You, let us be Your voice. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
