Message: The Spirit Of God Resting On You

Hello My Friend,

As Christians, we cannot praise God enough for the all the blessings we receive from Him. Sometimes God’s blessings are a bit overwhelming because the more we receive, the more we start to wonder what is coming around the corner. Believe it or not, trials and tribulation are blessings too, and usually come after many joyous blessings. There is this saying, “Out of the frying pan, into the fire.”, Sometimes our joyous blessings will turn into trials, each one getting worse than the last, and here is the thing, it is not to chasten or punish us, it is for God to work through us. “If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.” – I Peter 4:14-16.

for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you:” There are many faithful Christians suffering, and you would not know it because Christ shines through their suffering. And there are many unfaithful Christians not suffering. When the faithful are suffering and see the unfaithful not it brings them to wonder where God is, but can I tell you, God is watching both. While He is preparing His faithful to receive their reward, He is warning His unfaithful to repent before He starts taking things away. Saul was blessed to become the first king of Israel, and for about a year he did great and was truly blessed by God for ruling the nation under His direction. However, the more powerful Saul got the less he obeyed God, oh, he still wanted God to bless him, but made up his own rules to follow Him. God sent Samuel a message to give to Saul, he commanded him to take out the Amalekites, destroy everything, and take nothing with them. Saul did not obey.

Then came the word of the LORD unto Samuel, saying, It repenteth me that I have set up Saul to be king: for he is turned back from following me, and hath not performed my commandments. And it grieved Samuel; and he cried unto the LORD all night. And Samuel came to Saul: and Saul said unto him, Blessed be thou of the LORD: I have performed the commandment of the LORD. And Samuel said, What meaneth then this bleating of the sheep in mine ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear? And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. And Saul said unto Samuel, I have sinned: for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD, and thy words: because I feared the people, and obeyed their voice. Now therefore, I pray thee, pardon my sin, and turn again with me, that I may worship the LORD. And Samuel said unto Saul, I will not return with thee: for thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD hath rejected thee from being king over Israel. And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent. And Samuel came no more to see Saul until the day of his death: nevertheless Samuel mourned for Saul: and the LORD repented that he had made Saul king over Israel.” – I Samuel 15:10-14,22,24-26,29,35.

to obey is better than sacrifice,So many unfaithful Christians have this mentality that because they know they are saved they can live as they please as all their sin is forgiven. This is the wrong attitude to have, and while no one can lose their salvation that does not mean God will not judge them for living in sin and refusing to repent. Jesus is the vine, but we are the branches, if we are unfruitful He will cut us off the vine, meaning we will die before our time. Saul tried very hard to get God to repent of His decision to remove him as king, but it did not work because he never repented himself, he kept blaming others. God knows every heart, and if they turn their heart away from Him He will find someone else who has a willing heart. Samuel saddened and disappointed over Saul, mourned, but now the time came for him to anoint a new king, God literally told him to snap out of it.

And the LORD said unto Samuel, How long wilt thou mourn for Saul, seeing I have rejected him from reigning over Israel? fill thine horn with oil, and go, I will send thee to Jesse the Bethlehemite: for I have provided me a king among his sons. And it came to pass, when they were come, that he looked on Eliab, and said, Surely the LORD’S anointed is before him. But the LORD said unto Samuel, Look not on his countenance, or on the height of his stature; because I have refused him: for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. Again, Jesse made seven of his sons to pass before Samuel. And Samuel said unto Jesse, The LORD hath not chosen these. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Are here all thy children? And he said, There remaineth yet the youngest, and, behold, he keepeth the sheep. And Samuel said unto Jesse, Send and fetch him: for we will not sit down till he come hither. And he sent, and brought him in. Now he was ruddy, and withal of a beautiful countenance, and goodly to look to. And the LORD said, Arise, anoint him: for this is he.” – I Samuel 6:1,6-7,10-12.

for the LORD seeth not as man seeth;” We do not like to admit it, but we all have this thing about appearances, and let me tell you, the ugliest person in the world still favors the most beautiful person in the world. And this is why we are not all created to be one size, height, or color, we are created as God sees fit to use us, and by the way, we are all fearfully and wonderfully made by Him. Now, David was blessed by God to be anointed the next king, little did he know that God was going to place him right into the fire to prepare him to be king.

But the Spirit of the LORD departed from Saul, and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him. And Saul’s servants said unto him, Behold now, an evil spirit from God troubleth thee. Let our lord now command thy servants, which are before thee, to seek out a man, who is a cunning player on an harp: and it shall come to pass, when the evil spirit from God is upon thee, that he shall play with his hand, and thou shalt be well. And Saul said unto his servants, Provide me now a man that can play well, and bring him to me. Then answered one of the servants, and said, Behold, I have seen a son of Jesse the Bethlehemite, that is cunning in playing, and a mighty valiant man, and a man of war, and prudent in matters, and a comely person, and the LORD is with him. Wherefore Saul sent messengers unto Jesse, and said, Send me David thy son, which is with the sheep. And David came to Saul, and stood before him: and he loved him greatly; and he became his armourbearer.” – I Samuel 16:14-21.

and an evil spirit from the LORD troubled him.No, that evil spirit was not God, it was none other than the devil himself. Before Christ came and sent the Holy Spirit in His place to dwell in all His believers God’s Spirit did not remain permanently in a person, if that person turned away from God He would remove His Spirit from them. And since the Holy Spirit was no longer there to protect that person the devil was sure to show himself to prevent them from returning to God. Being saved does not mean that the devil will not trouble the spirit of a saved soul, it means he cannot touch a saved soul. I am sure that David really did not understand what was going on when he was anointed as king, but imagine he thought it a great privilege to work for the king. Everything was working in David’s favor, he was blessed to be anointed as the next king, blessed to be the current kings armourbearer, and now, he was about to do something else, take on a giant. Israel, still fighting with the Philistines, there stood an over nine foot tall giant challenging Israel to a duel, and David stood up to the challenge.

And the Philistine said, I defy the armies of Israel this day; give me a man, that we may fight together. When Saul and all Israel heard those words of the Philistine, they were dismayed, and greatly afraid. And David said to Saul, Let no man’s heart fail because of him; thy servant will go and fight with this Philistine. And Saul said to David, Thou art not able to go against this Philistine to fight with him: for thou art but a youth, and he a man of war from his youth. And David said unto Saul, Thy servant kept his father’s sheep, and there came a lion, and a bear, and took a lamb out of the flock: And I went out after him, and smote him, and delivered it out of his mouth: and when he arose against me, I caught him by his beard, and smote him, and slew him. Thy servant slew both the lion and the bear: and this uncircumcised Philistine shall be as one of them, seeing he hath defied the armies of the living God. David said moreover, The LORD that delivered me out of the paw of the lion, and out of the paw of the bear, he will deliver me out of the hand of this Philistine. And Saul said unto David, Go, and the LORD be with thee.” – I Samuel 17:10-11,32-37.

Go, and the LORD be with thee.” You see, Saul was no fool, he knew the power of God just as much as David did, but he let his pride take over and never did return to the LORD. David did not fear Goliath because he knew that God was with him and would give him the strength to do exactly what Goliath proclaimed to do to anyone who fought him. God gives you strength that you cannot believe given the right timing and faith. I have never had kids, but I have very protective instincts when it comes to protecting children, God is the same way with us, His protective instincts kick in when we put our faith and trust in Him, especially when it looks hopeless for us. “Blessed be the LORD my strength, which teacheth my hands to war, and my fingers to fight: My goodness, and my fortress; my high tower, and my deliverer; my shield, and he in whom I trust; who subdueth my people under me.” – Psalms 144:1,2.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “And also the Strength of Israel will not lie nor repent: for he is not a man, that he should repent.” – I Samuel 15:29.

Today’s Prayer: God, Thank You for the rest that comes through our suffering, we do not have to live in fear or fell defeated because we know that You will often show Your blessings through the most trying times in our lives. Only when we are living in obedience to Your commands can we live the best life, even in our suffering. While You glory in Your people living for You, as long as we have this flesh we are just as capable of falling away from You, and into the lusts of the world. Lord, Keep us alert and always watching for changes in others behavior so that we do not get so disappointed when they fail us that they discourage us to keep going in Your strength. Give us Your power, mercy, grace, place us in Your armor, and help us to overcome the devil and his attempts to get us away from You. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
