Message: The Power In The Name of Jesus

Hello My Friend,

To the Christian who walks with Christ daily, there is something comforting in knowing that we are protected by God Himself. Oh, we may face some trials, some of which we bring upon ourselves, but we know that He never leaves nor forsakes us. To the world, who rejects God, there is something tormenting even in the mention of His name. For deep down they know there is a hell and do not want to be in it any more that we do, but they are full of so much pride that they would rather die in their sin than live by admitting they need Christ. “For the wicked boasteth of his heart’s desire, and blesseth the covetous, whom the LORD abhorreth. The wicked, through the pride of his countenance, will not seek after God: God is not in all his thoughts.” – Psalm 10:3-4.

During Bible study last night I began thinking how hard the hearts of people might be that they can see a miracle from God and yet take no notice of it. Do not let the world fool you, they know God exists, and that His Word brings conviction, and that is why they have taken it out of schools, the court rooms, and even the churches. God sent Amos to Israel to warn them of the judgment was coming to the entire nation. Through Amos, God upbraids Israel for were ignoring the warnings of their judgment and continuing in their wicked ways.

Ye that put far away the evil day, and cause the seat of violence to come near; That lie upon beds of ivory, and stretch themselves upon their couches, and eat the lambs out of the flock, and the calves out of the midst of the stall; That chant to the sound of the viol, and invent to themselves instruments of musick, like David; That drink wine in bowls, and anoint themselves with the chief ointments: but they are not grieved for the affliction of Joseph. Therefore now shall they go captive with the first that go captive, and the banquet of them that stretched themselves shall be removed. The Lord GOD hath sworn by himself, saith the LORD the God of hosts, I abhor the excellency of Jacob, and hate his palaces: therefore will I deliver up the city with all that is therein. And it shall come to pass, if there remain ten men in one house, that they shall die. And a man’s uncle shall take him up, and he that burneth him, to bring out the bones out of the house, and shall say unto him that is by the sides of the house, Is there yet any with thee? and he shall say, No. Then shall he say, Hold thy tongue: for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD. For, behold, the LORD commandeth, and he will smite the great house with breaches, and the little house with clefts.” – Amos 6:3-11.

for we may not make mention of the name of the LORD.A nation that despises the mere mention of the name of Christ is one that knows the power of His name. One can wonder why God gives all the opportunity to be saved when He is the one who determines who gets saved. We are all born with the knowledge of God, it is this sin of pride that turns a heart from Him. Remember, these were not people who had no knowledge of God, they down right rejected Him, after all He had done for them, and including giving them the land they were standing on. Israel forgot God, and prided themselves on what they had made out of the kingdom, including their false gods. God takes pride in a nation that prospers under Him because He built it from the ground up, but He is a jealous God, and He will destroy that nation that rejects Him just as fast as He built it. All that Amos was saying to them was not new news, God had been trying to appeal to them since they turned away from Him, but He had enough, they were going to lose the kingdom, and they were not too happy about it.

And the LORD said unto me, Amos, what seest thou? And I said, A plumbline. Then said the Lord, Behold, I will set a plumbline in the midst of my people Israel: I will not again pass by them any more: And the high places of Isaac shall be desolate, and the sanctuaries of Israel shall be laid waste; and I will rise against the house of Jeroboam with the sword. Then Amaziah the priest of Bethel sent to Jeroboam king of Israel, saying, Amos hath conspired against thee in the midst of the house of Israel: the land is not able to bear all his words. For thus Amos saith, Jeroboam shall die by the sword, and Israel shall surely be led away captive out of their own land. Also Amaziah said unto Amos, O thou seer, go, flee thee away into the land of Judah, and there eat bread, and prophesy there: But prophesy not again any more at Bethel: for it is the king’s chapel, and it is the king’s court. Then answered Amos, and said to Amaziah, I was no prophet, neither was I a prophet’s son; but I was an herdman, and a gatherer of sycomore fruit: And the LORD took me as I followed the flock, and the LORD said unto me, Go, prophesy unto my people Israel.” – Amos 7:8-15.

And the LORD took me as I followed the flock,The world, and quite frankly, many churches tries to ignore the fact that God will judge any nation that turns His back on Him. The wicked do not want to hear they are sinners and will die and end up in hell for their sin. They certainly do not want to hear that God is going to judge them for their sin well before Jesus gets here. There will come a time though when it will be too late, and no one will hear the Gospel at all, which is why we cannot stop preaching about it now. Count it a great blessing that we are in the midst of a nation that still knows of God, there will come a time when people are going to be so desperate that they will seek His Word, but it will not be found. Through Amos, God speaks of a famine like not other, a time when people will wander the world in search of His Word, but not be able to find it.

The LORD hath sworn by the excellency of Jacob, Surely I will never forget any of their works. Shall not the land tremble for this, and every one mourn that dwelleth therein? and it shall rise up wholly as a flood; and it shall be cast out and drowned, as by the flood of Egypt. And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day. Behold, the days come, saith the Lord GOD, that I will send a famine in the land, not a famine of bread, nor a thirst for water, but of hearing the words of the LORD: And they shall wander from sea to sea, and from the north even to the east, they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.” – Amos 8:7-12.

they shall run to and fro to seek the word of the LORD, and shall not find it.How sad it must have been during that time, a time where they had no communication with God whatsoever. Let me tell you, that day is coming again, in many countries we are not even allowed to have a Bible in our possession, and it is against the law to preach Jesus. Even though we have the Word of God at our disposal it can sometimes seem as though God is not near, and that is where our faith comes in. You know, we tend to think that God is judging His faithful all the time, since we know He judges His house first. However, that is not the case, our judgments are not the same as what the world will receive. God knows we are saved, and will judge us to keep us in check as we will not face the judgment of hell. His judgment upon those who reject Him is death and hell, Jew or Gentile. Even though His faithful are in the midst of this wicked world, and have to deal with the repercussions of their actions, we can rest in the hope of knowing that Jesus is coming to get us, and we will not see the world be destroyed. God may have judged Israel, but He knew not all of them rejected Him, He gives them hope of restoring Israel.

It is he that buildeth his stories in the heaven, and hath founded his troop in the earth; he that calleth for the waters of the sea, and poureth them out upon the face of the earth: The LORD is his name. Are ye not as children of the Ethiopians unto me, O children of Israel? saith the LORD. Have not I brought up Israel out of the land of Egypt? and the Philistines from Caphtor, and the Syrians from Kir? Behold, the eyes of the Lord GOD are upon the sinful kingdom, and I will destroy it from off the face of the earth; saving that I will not utterly destroy the house of Jacob, saith the LORD. For, lo, I will command, and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations, like as corn is sifted in a sieve, yet shall not the least grain fall upon the earth. All the sinners of my people shall die by the sword, which say, The evil shall not overtake nor prevent us. In that day will I raise up the tabernacle of David that is fallen, and close up the breaches thereof; and I will raise up his ruins, and I will build it as in the days of old: That they may possess the remnant of Edom, and of all the heathen, which are called by my name, saith the LORD that doeth this.” – Amos 9:6-12.

and I will sift the house of Israel among all nations,” This reminds me of a parable that Jesus spoke, “The kingdom of heaven is likened unto a man which sowed good seed in his field: But while men slept, his enemy came and sowed tares among the wheat, and went his way. But when the blade was sprung up, and brought forth fruit, then appeared the tares also. So the servants of the householder came and said unto him, Sir, didst not thou sow good seed in thy field? from whence then hath it tares? He said unto them, An enemy hath done this. The servants said unto him, Wilt thou then that we go and gather them up? But he said, Nay; lest while ye gather up the tares, ye root up also the wheat with them. Let both grow together until the harvest: and in the time of harvest I will say to the reapers, Gather ye together first the tares, and bind them in bundles to burn them: but gather the wheat into my barn.” – Matthew 13:24-30.

Jew or Gentile, we will all stand before Jesus in judgment, the Jews have the mentality that they can hide their sins, do whatever they please as though they were just like David, and get away with it because they are God’s chosen. Christians have that same mentality, only they believe their salvation justifies their behavior. A lot of people misread God’s Word when He says that all of Israel will be restored. What God means by this is that the nation of Israel itself will be restored and Christ will reign from Jerusalem. We will all be resurrected to stand before Christ, Jew and Gentile, those who received Christ receive eternal life, those who did not will be burned in eternal fire. So many people reject Christ, when they do see Him face to face, they will learn the hard way that they should have listened to the many people who tried to tell them that salvation is in Jesus alone. Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved.” – Acts 4:12.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord GOD, that I will cause the sun to go down at noon, and I will darken the earth in the clear day: And I will turn your feasts into mourning, and all your songs into lamentation; and I will bring up sackcloth upon all loins, and baldness upon every head; and I will make it as the mourning of an only son, and the end thereof as a bitter day.” – Amos 8:9-10.

Today’s Prayer: God, As we apply Christ’s redemptive blood to our souls we find the newness of life. What great liberty and joy to know that our names are written in heaven. If we set our hearts on this world we will wear down and lose the joy that comes with the new life you have given us. Lead us and guide us, give is Your power to resist the temptation to seek other means for our needs, but look solely upon You as You supply all our needs according to Your riches, Keep us in Your Word, help us to learn it and follow it to keep from falling into this wicked world, In Jesus’ name we pray. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
