Message: Finding Refuge In The Saviour

Hello My Friend,

Refuge; Shelter or protection from danger or distress. There are thousands of illegal immigrants living in America in what is called sanctuary cities, and even more probably living outside of them. There are also thousands of people trying to be granted access into the country under a refuge status. You know, the country has nothing against immigrants finding protection from the dangers of their own country. Anyone who thinks otherwise has been taught the wrong information, but it is important to understand open borders are not the answer, they must come through the gate, otherwise, they have no protection. Think of it this way, there is only one way to heaven, there are no open borders, only one gate, and in order to pass to find refuge we need the key, Jesus Christ. “Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat: Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.” – Matthew 7:13-14.

and few there be that find it.” People can try to get to the promised land any way they think will get them there, but there is only one way, and that is Jesus. No one likes to wait, we all want things when we want them, we all want security, and safety, and protection from any danger or distress, but the world is not going to give us that, our only hope is on the heavenly things, not earthly. Of course, while we are here God wants to take care of, and provide for His people, but we have to take the good with the bad, otherwise, if we try to go around it we will find ourselves in more danger. You know, when God promised Israel that He was going to give them a land of their own, one they will inherit without merit, He left the Levites out, telling them that He was their inheritance. However, He did not leave them out, each tribe was commanded to give the Levites cities and suburbs to live in.

Command the children of Israel, that they give unto the Levites of the inheritance of their possession cities to dwell in; and ye shall give also unto the Levites suburbs for the cities round about them. And the cities shall they have to dwell in; and the suburbs of them shall be for their cattle, and for their goods, and for all their beasts. And the suburbs of the cities, which ye shall give unto the Levites, shall reach from the wall of the city and outward a thousand cubits round about. And ye shall measure from without the city on the east side two thousand cubits, and on the south side two thousand cubits, and on the west side two thousand cubits, and on the north side two thousand cubits; and the city shall be in the midst: this shall be to them the suburbs of the cities.” – Numbers 35:2-5.

and the city shall be in the midst:” Do you see what is happening here? The Levites were to be right in the middle of the town. You know, while we have access to Jesus twenty-four seven, it helps to be around those who can minster to us, which is why we need a local church to find refuge in. It does not matter who we are, or where we come from, we need a place to find refuge, and what better place than among those who can educate and comfort us through God’s Word, and our faith. Now, out of those cities that were to be given to the Levites, six of them would be cities of refuge.

Speak unto the children of Israel, and say unto them, When ye be come over Jordan into the land of Canaan; Then ye shall appoint you cities to be cities of refuge for you; that the slayer may flee thither, which killeth any person at unawares. And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger; that the manslayer die not, until he stand before the congregation in judgment. And of these cities which ye shall give six cities shall ye have for refuge. Ye shall give three cities on this side Jordan, and three cities shall ye give in the land of Canaan, which shall be cities of refuge. These six cities shall be a refuge, both for the children of Israel, and for the stranger, and for the sojourner among them: that every one that killeth any person unawares may flee thither.” – Numbers 35:10-15.

And they shall be unto you cities for refuge from the avenger;” You see, these cities were places they could go if they were in danger of their own lives. These were people who killed a person, either by murder or accident, and was used as shelter until they could get a fair trial. God places great emphasis on those committing murder being guilty, and subject to death, but as long as they were in a city of refuge they were safe.

Then the congregation shall judge between the slayer and the revenger of blood according to these judgments: And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil. But if the slayer shall at any time come without the border of the city of his refuge, whither he was fled; And the revenger of blood find him without the borders of the city of his refuge, and the revenger of blood kill the slayer; he shall not be guilty of blood:” – Numbers 35:24-27.

he shall not be guilty of blood:” No one ought to be penalized for protecting themselves, if their lives were in danger and they killed someone protecting themselves then they were not guilty. You know, people can walk into a church all they want, but unless they receive Jesus Christ as their Saviour they are guilty of their own blood. Those who reject Christ had the opportunity to be saved from death and hell, anyone who dies without Him has no one to blame, but themselves because they made their choice. There is no way to flee or escape this, even if they were unaware, except by Christ. We should never rejoice over those who die and end up in hell nor should we take our salvation for granted and live the way we want because we are saved. God literates this.

Whoso killeth any person, the murderer shall be put to death by the mouth of witnesses: but one witness shall not testify against any person to cause him to die. Moreover ye shall take no satisfaction for the life of a murderer, which is guilty of death: but he shall be surely put to death. And ye shall take no satisfaction for him that is fled to the city of his refuge, that he should come again to dwell in the land, until the death of the priest. So ye shall not pollute the land wherein ye are: for blood it defileth the land: and the land cannot be cleansed of the blood that is shed therein, but by the blood of him that shed it. Defile not therefore the land which ye shall inhabit, wherein I dwell: for I the LORD dwell among the children of Israel.” – Numbers 35:30-34.

but by the blood of him that shed it.” Wow! Think about that. Jesus gave His life, He shed His innocent blood on the land that cannot be cleansed of the blood that was shed on it, and it was His blood that avenged the wrath of God. You know, even a murderer can be saved from hell if they sincerely turned to Jesus, and repented. “For godly sorrow worketh repentance to salvation not to be repented of: but the sorrow of the world worketh death. For behold this selfsame thing, that ye sorrowed after a godly sort, what carefulness it wrought in you, yea, what clearing of yourselves, yea, what indignation, yea, what fear, yea, what vehement desire, yea, what zeal, yea, what revenge! In all things ye have approved yourselves to be clear in this matter.” – II Corinthians 7:10-11.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “And the congregation shall deliver the slayer out of the hand of the revenger of blood, and the congregation shall restore him to the city of his refuge, whither he was fled: and he shall abide in it unto the death of the high priest, which was anointed with the holy oil.” – Numbers 35:25.

Today’s Prayer: God, When You promised to give us eternal life by receiving and accepting Your Son as our Saviour You also promised that You would never leave nor forsake us. I know You never go back on Your Word, and am trusting in You completely to save me from death and hell. In this world there are dangers all around, and You know exactly what they are, thankfully we can find refuge in Your Son, not only in our salvation, but while we are here. Lord, Lead us and guide us, surround us with Your security and shelter from the dangers, keep us from walking into something dangerous, and should we take a step out of our refuge city, lead us back safely. I ask this in Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
