Message: Jesus Did

Hello My Friend,

There is a quote that comes to mind as I read the chapters for today, “Do For Others What They Cannot Do For Themselves.” I have a boyfriend that will give the shirt off his back to someone who needs it, I have brother that is the same way. My dad was the same way, and so was my mother, I can count numerous times when we were helping someone out with food or giving someone a place to stay. I would say that I am a little more selfish than they are, but then again, I do a lot for people, which I think sometimes gets me in trouble with God. So, why are we or do we feel the need to take care of those who cannot do for themselves, even if we are not Christians? Well, it may have been because of their importunity, [Luke 11:5-8  And he said unto them, Which of you shall have a friend, and shall go unto him at midnight, and say unto him, Friend, lend me three loaves;  6  For a friend of mine in his journey is come to me, and I have nothing to set before him?  7  And he from within shall answer and say, Trouble me not: the door is now shut, and my children are with me in bed; I cannot rise and give thee.  8  I say unto you, Though he will not rise and give him, because he is his friend, yet because of his importunity he will rise and give him as many as he needeth.]

[Importunity; Pressing solicitation; urgent request; application for a claim or favor, which is urged with troublesome frequency or pertinacity.] The Christian life really is something that very few understand or care to accept, which is why we are so few in number, especially today. As saved, born again, Christians we really do what we can so that the lost can find Jesus, and through that desire we find that God blesses us so much more. As Moses continues to instruct the new generation for their entering into the promised land, he gives a recap of their journey in the forty years since they left Egypt. Once they got there they were going to have to take it by force. He reminds them of their conquest of Gilead, and how the cities were taken from them and given to the Reubenites, Gadites, and half of the tribe of Manasseh.

[Deuteronomy 3:12-13,18,20,22  And this land, which we possessed at that time, from Aroer, which is by the river Arnon, and half mount Gilead, and the cities thereof, gave I unto the Reubenites and to the Gadites.  13  And the rest of Gilead, and all Bashan, being the kingdom of Og, gave I unto the half tribe of Manasseh; all the region of Argob, with all Bashan, which was called the land of giants.  18  And I commanded you at that time, saying, The LORD your God hath given you this land to possess it: ye shall pass over armed before your brethren the children of Israel, all that are meet for the war.  20  Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren, as well as unto you, and until they also possess the land which the LORD your God hath given them beyond Jordan: and then shall ye return every man unto his possession, which I have given you. 22  Ye shall not fear them: for the LORD your God he shall fight for you.]

[Until the LORD have given rest unto your brethren,] There is a verse that comes to mind here, [Matthew 18:20  For where two or three are gathered together in my name, there am I in the midst of them.] The faith of one Christian can get God to move a mountain, can you imagine what the faith of the entire body of Christ can do. Christians do not just have Christ holding them up, they are a body of brothers and sisters in Christ coming together and taking care of each other. One Christian can do quite a bit, but there is great power when we all come together as one body in Christ, [I Corinthians 12:13-14,23-25  For by one Spirit are we all baptized into one body, whether we be Jews or Gentiles, whether we be bond or free; and have been all made to drink into one Spirit.  14  For the body is not one member, but many. 23  And those members of the body, which we think to be less honourable, upon these we bestow more abundant honour; and our uncomely parts have more abundant comeliness.  24  For our comely parts have no need: but God hath tempered the body together, having given more abundant honour to that part which lacked:  25  That there should be no schism in the body; but that the members should have the same care one for another.]

[Schism; division or separation.] Just as the faith of one Christian can move a mountain, the disbelief of one reprobate can create a bigger mountain. In fact, disbelief spreads faster than faith does. Look at what happened when ten of the twelve spies gave an evil report and discouraged the entire congregation from going into the promised land the first time. All it took was one of those men to question God to get the others to follow. Let me tell you, true Christians never waver in their faith, they may get discouraged, especially when they work so hard for something only to be denied it, but they still have faith in God’s eternal promises. When Moses got so angry that he hit the rock instead of speak to it when the congregation chided with him about having no water to drink, God forbade Moses to go into the promised land. I think he was a little more than disappointed, he mentioned it three times to the Israelites while he was talking to them. He recalls asking repeatedly God to go.

[Deuteronomy 3:24-27  O Lord GOD, thou hast begun to shew thy servant thy greatness, and thy mighty hand: for what God is there in heaven or in earth, that can do according to thy works, and according to thy might?  25  I pray thee, let me go over, and see the good land that is beyond Jordan, that goodly mountain, and Lebanon.  26  But the LORD was wroth with me for your sakes, and would not hear me: and the LORD said unto me, Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.  27  Get thee up into the top of Pisgah, and lift up thine eyes westward, and northward, and southward, and eastward, and behold it with thine eyes: for thou shalt not go over this Jordan.]

[Let it suffice thee; speak no more unto me of this matter.] I can just imagine the sound of God’s voice, I want to cry for him everytime I read this. We can wonder why God denies us things, especially when we have been so faithful to Him, but when He says no there is always a very good reason. You see, Moses may not have been able to go into the land of promise, but He would be able to go into the promised land. Proof that he would be in the promised land was given at the transfiguration of Jesus, [Luke 9:30-33,35  And, behold, there talked with him two men, which were Moses and Elias:  31  Who appeared in glory, and spake of his decease which he should accomplish at Jerusalem.  32  But Peter and they that were with him were heavy with sleep: and when they were awake, they saw his glory, and the two men that stood with him.  34  While he thus spake, there came a cloud, and overshadowed them: and they feared as they entered into the cloud.  35  And there came a voice out of the cloud, saying, This is my beloved Son: hear him.]

[This is my beloved Son: hear him.] There is God’s speaking again with His voice. I will never forget the day that God spoke to me, He did not scream or yell, it was a firm, deep, and stern tone, and yes, God will speak to in more than just His Word. I will never forget His words, “Get Up! I didn’t bring you here to end this way!” That was all it took for me to put my life in the hands of Christ, and dedicate the rest of my life to Him. I lost a lot of things and people in my life since then, but I am more blessed than I ever have been, and I am not talking about stuff, I am talking about that prosperous life that only serving Christ can give. I am not perfect, I fail God every day, and there really is not a day that goes by when I do not tell God that He is better to me than I deserve. The one thing I will never do is mock His Word, water it down, or change it so that it appears that my sin is acceptable to God. Sin is sin and while God is merciful and just to forgive my sin, that does not mean that He condones sin, Moses reminds the Israelites that they are to never alter God’s Word under any circumstances.

[Deuteronomy 4:1-4,7  Now therefore hearken, O Israel, unto the statutes and unto the judgments, which I teach you, for to do them, that ye may live, and go in and possess the land which the LORD God of your fathers giveth you.  2  Ye shall not add unto the word which I command you, neither shall ye diminish ought from it, that ye may keep the commandments of the LORD your God which I command you.  3  Your eyes have seen what the LORD did because of Baalpeor: for all the men that followed Baalpeor, the LORD thy God hath destroyed them from among you.  4  But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive every one of you this day. 7  For what nation is there so great, who hath God so nigh unto them, as the LORD our God is in all things that we call upon him for?]

[But ye that did cleave unto the LORD your God are alive] [Cleave; To stick; to adhere; to hold to.] When we accept Christ as our Saviour He sticks to us like glue, and because we are stuck to Him like glue our souls are alive through Him. Without Christ there is no life! God gives us every opportunity to receive His promises, but He is not just going to hand them to us, we need to take them. Even when it comes to our salvation, Jesus is not going to save us if we just sit there and say nothing, you can believe in Him all you want, but if you do not ask Him to save you, then He will not. It does not matter if you were born before Christ came here in the flesh, you must call on the LORD to be saved. Moses warns the Israelites that they will fail and sin against God and because He is a jealous God He will place judgment on all who sin. However, He is a merciful God and will save all who call upon His name.

[Deuteronomy 4:23-24,29-31,35,39-40  Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make you a graven image, or the likeness of any thing, which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.  24  For the LORD thy God is a consuming fire, even a jealous God.  29  But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.  30  When thou art in tribulation, and all these things are come upon thee, even in the latter days, if thou turn to the LORD thy God, and shalt be obedient unto his voice;  31  (For the LORD thy God is a merciful God;) he will not forsake thee, neither destroy thee, nor forget the covenant of thy fathers which he sware unto them. 35  Unto thee it was shewed, that thou mightest know that the LORD he is God; there is none else beside him. 39  Know therefore this day, and consider it in thine heart, that the LORD he is God in heaven above, and upon the earth beneath: there is none else.  40  Thou shalt keep therefore his statutes, and his commandments, which I command thee this day, that it may go well with thee, and with thy children after thee, and that thou mayest prolong thy days upon the earth, which the LORD thy God giveth thee, for ever.]

[there is none else.] There is no other name by which we can be saved, and that is Jesus Christ. Jesus did for us what we could not do for ourselves and that was give His life as the payment for our sin debt, [Romans 10:9-13  That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.  10  For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.  11  For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.  12  For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him.  13  For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.]

Jesus Christ Magnified: [Deuteronomy 4:29  But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.]

Today’s Prayer: Jesus, Thank You for the great sacrifice that You made in order to save my soul. You did for me what I could never have been able to do on my own to save myself from hell. To even say that I could save myself sounds foolish and quite arrogant, as there is not enough sacrifices or amount of commands that could obey that would save me. I will always come short because I am a sinner. You saved me by grace through my faith alone in You the second I asked You to save me. Now I live the rest of my life serving You. At least, that is what I want to do. Lord, Do for me what I cannot do for myself, give me Your power, mercy, grace, passion, compassion, and the love that You have so that I might be able to do for others what they cannot do for themselves. I ask these things in Your name, Jesus. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
