Message: Mission Possible

Hello My Friend,

As I was reading the chapters for today I could not help, but reflect on the day that I saw Jesus, and gave my life to Him. Jesus said, “If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross daily, and follow me.” – Luke 9:23b, and that is exactly what I did nearly nineteen years ago when I could not even get myself out of bed, and was in so sick, and in so much pain that I did not know if I would make it through the day. It is not always easy to deny myself daily, I fail more often than I care to admit, as my cross gets so heavy, but thankfully, and mercifully, I do not have to carry my cross alone, Jesus is there to carry bulk of the weight with me. Praise God! You know, as Christians, we are on a mission that is completely impossible for us to carry out on our own, but with Jesus not only carrying us, but leading us, it is possible. “For who is God save the LORD? or who is a rock save our God? It is God that girdeth me with strength, and maketh my way perfect. For thou hast girded me with strength unto the battle: thou hast subdued under me those that rose up against me. It is God that avengeth me, and subdueth the people under me.” – Psalm 18:31-32,39,47.

It is God that avengeth me,” We do not realize it, but as Christians, we are in a battle every single day that we stand by Christ. Why? The world hates Christ, He exposes their sin, and they will do anything to dispose of Him. However, they do not know who they are dealing with, when you belong to God, He deals with them Himself. Yes, we do have to fight, but He will go before us, and not only fight with us, will lead us and protect us. Now, that Israel had passed over the Jordan it was time to prepare for the mission they were about to embark on. The new generation had not been circumcised so they accomplished that, and while they healed they observed the Passover and prepared for their first battle in Jericho. As Joshua gets close to Jericho he is approached by a man.

And it came to pass, when Joshua was by Jericho, that he lifted up his eyes and looked, and, behold, there stood a man over against him with his sword drawn in his hand: and Joshua went unto him, and said unto him, Art thou for us, or for our adversaries? And he said, Nay; but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. And Joshua fell on his face to the earth, and did worship, and said unto him, What saith my lord unto his servant? And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.” – Joshua 5:13-15.

but as captain of the host of the LORD am I now come. The captain of the LORD’s host is none other than Jesus Himself. The world would like to think of Jesus as some man that was here two thousand years ago, martyred for his faith in God, but He is, and always has been LORD, and has been with God’s people from the day He created them. Think about it, He was Job’s Redeemer, Abraham’s Visitor, Jacob’s Contender, Moses’ Fire, and now, Joshua’s Captain. Jesus will become to His people what their faith needs Him to be in order to complete the mission that God has laid out for them. How incredible it that? Jesus had His sword drawn, ready to defend and protect His people, an awesome reminder that Jesus is always ready for battle to save those who put their faith and trust in Him. Praise God! We must understand that in order to accomplish our mission we need to follow God’s instructions precisely, any variation and we will be defeated. Now, the time had come, Israel was not only going to storm into Jericho, they were going to burn it down to the ground. Since word had gotten out that they were coming there was a fortress built around the city, God instructs Joshua how to approach this.

Now Jericho was straitly shut up because of the children of Israel: none went out, and none came in. And the LORD said unto Joshua, See, I have given into thine hand Jericho, and the king thereof, and the mighty men of valour. And ye shall compass the city, all ye men of war, and go round about the city once. Thus shalt thou do six days. And seven priests shall bear before the ark seven trumpets of rams’ horns: and the seventh day ye shall compass the city seven times, and the priests shall blow with the trumpets. And it shall come to pass, that when they make a long blast with the ram’s horn, and when ye hear the sound of the trumpet, all the people shall shout with a great shout; and the wall of the city shall fall down flat, and the people shall ascend up every man straight before him. And Joshua had commanded the people, saying, Ye shall not shout, nor make any noise with your voice, neither shall any word proceed out of your mouth, until the day I bid you shout; then shall ye shout. So the ark of the LORD compassed the city, going about it once: and they came into the camp, and lodged in the camp.” – Joshua 6:1-5,10-11.

Thus shalt thou do six days.” For six days, the priests carrying the Ark, and the soldiers marched around the city one time, and for six days those people watched as they marched, I imagine they were on great edge because they did nothing. Do you know what God was doing here? Each day these men walked around the city once, following the Ark, prepared them, encouraged them, and increased their faith and their strength. So, on the seventh day, whey they had to walk around it seven times they were ready, and the people of Jericho were really afraid. The soldiers and priests did exactly what Joshua commanded, and walked around the city seven times.

And it came to pass on the seventh day, that they rose early about the dawning of the day, and compassed the city after the same manner seven times: only on that day they compassed the city seven times. And it came to pass at the seventh time, when the priests blew with the trumpets, Joshua said unto the people, Shout; for the LORD hath given you the city. And the city shall be accursed, even it, and all that are therein, to the LORD: only Rahab the harlot shall live, she and all that are with her in the house, because she hid the messengers that we sent. And ye, in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing, lest ye make yourselves accursed, when ye take of the accursed thing, and make the camp of Israel a curse, and trouble it. But all the silver, and gold, and vessels of brass and iron, are consecrated unto the LORD: they shall come into the treasury of the LORD. So the people shouted when the priests blew with the trumpets: and it came to pass, when the people heard the sound of the trumpet, and the people shouted with a great shout, that the wall fell down flat, so that the people went up into the city, every man straight before him, and they took the city. So the LORD was with Joshua; and his fame was noised throughout all the country.” – Joshua 6:15-21,27.

in any wise keep yourselves from the accursed thing,” And this is why we need to follow God’s instructions precisely, it will lead to defeat. The accursed things were something that had been used for evil, it could have been gold, stones, or idols, and they were instructed not to even go near them, but one of the men, Achan, not only looked at them, he took them, resulting in a defeat in the small town of Ai.

But the children of Israel committed a trespass in the accursed thing: for Achan, the son of Carmi, the son of Zabdi, the son of Zerah, of the tribe of Judah, took of the accursed thing: and the anger of the LORD was kindled against the children of Israel. So there went up thither of the people about three thousand men: and they fled before the men of Ai. And the men of Ai smote of them about thirty and six men: for they chased them from before the gate even unto Shebarim, and smote them in the going down: wherefore the hearts of the people melted, and became as water. And Joshua rent his clothes, and fell to the earth upon his face before the ark of the LORD until the eventide, he and the elders of Israel, and put dust upon their heads. And Joshua said, Alas, O Lord GOD, wherefore hast thou at all brought this people over Jordan, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us? would to God we had been content, and dwelt on the other side Jordan! And the LORD said unto Joshua, Get thee up; wherefore liest thou thus upon thy face?” – Joshua 7:1,4-7,6-7,10.

and dwelt on the other side Jordan!” How often do we do this ourselves? We see something tragic and start getting dramatic with Him, even questioning why He sent us on this mission if we were going to be defeated? And God will yell at us, and tell us to get up, I know this because He did it to me. God has to yell at us sometimes and tell us to get rid of the sin! In fact, get rid of the ones who brought the sin. What good does it do serving God if we allow the sin to remain in our homes? Nothing. God will not help us accomplish our mission until we get rid of the sin or remove the ones that are. After they found the man, and the accursed things, and removed them all out of the camp, God was ready to help them.

And the LORD said unto Joshua, Fear not, neither be thou dismayed: take all the people of war with thee, and arise, go up to Ai: see, I have given into thy hand the king of Ai, and his people, and his city, and his land: And so it was, that all that fell that day, both of men and women, were twelve thousand, even all the men of Ai. Then Joshua built an altar unto the LORD God of Israel in mount Ebal, As Moses the servant of the LORD commanded the children of Israel, as it is written in the book of the law of Moses, an altar of whole stones, over which no man hath lift up any iron: and they offered thereon burnt offerings unto the LORD, and sacrificed peace offerings. And he wrote there upon the stones a copy of the law of Moses, which he wrote in the presence of the children of Israel.” – Joshua 8:1,25,30-32.

I have given into thy hand the king of Ai,” The most amazing thing about God is that while we may mess up, He is right there to help us once we listen to Him. Sometimes we are unaware that the impossible missions are not actually ours, they are His so that He might show us that they are possible with Him. Never let one defeat stop you from trusting that all things are possible with Jesus. Praise God! “Jesus said unto him, If thou canst believe, all things are possible to him that believeth.” – Mark 9:23.

Jesus Christ Magnified: “And the captain of the LORD’S host said unto Joshua, Loose thy shoe from off thy foot; for the place whereon thou standest is holy. And Joshua did so.” – Joshua 5:15.

Today’s Prayer: God, I know You have me on a mission, and it is one that only You can see me through. I will admit that there are some things that I just do not understand, but I am trusting You to reveal them to me when You see fit as I draw me closer to You. I know that nothing is impossible with You, but my head does not always want to believe that. My heart feels cracked, my soul feels crushed, and my body feels out of sorts. Lord, lead me and guide me, comfort me, give me peace, mend the wounds, and awaken my spirit. Help me to overcome the battle before me as I draw near to You, and give me Your wisdom, strength, and boldness to walk away from anyone or thing that is hindering me. Prepare me, and let me be ready to shout for the victory. In Jesus’ name. Amen.

God Bless You, I am praying for you,

Christina
